He will step down for Atiku at the last minute. Labour Party need to work extremely hard to stand any chance.

One is surely in favour of attracting investment but I don't buy this story that putting state money in the company was the only way to draw investment. Is Peter Obi the first one to attract investors to a State?

Take my state, Edo for example, when Obaseki drew Dangote to the state, they did it just the way I prescribed above, by creating favourable investment conditions, not by putting State money into the project.

The only time it is advisable to undertake such PPP is when the investor is brought in to provide some service that is integral to the infrastructure of the State. For example, power supply, roads, security etc. And this is done for the purpose of exercising oversight not to encourage investment.

It's not done anywhere that I know of but if you have some examples, i'd be happy to learn.

See, I get your point completely. But in this context I don't really think it was a bad move. Sabmiller is the second biggest brewery in the world and among fortune 500 companies. If that was the terms then it's fine and good. How many states in Nigeria have attracted a fortune 500 company?

I know alot of people here in Nigeria that invest in fortune 500 companies.

If his successors continued with that vision Anambra state would have become a fully industrialised state by now.

Soludo is clearly against it let's see the companies he will attract by doing things differently. It's not enough to condemn. It's refreshing to have this type of brain stimulating conversation courtesy of Peter Obi's administration. If we move the conversation to my state in Delta the only conversation is how much Ibori, Uduaghan and Okowa looted. I'm sure it's same with your state in Edo state.

Someone said the value of the investment dropped because of the devaluation of the naira. i am showing him why that is not a tenable argument. I'm sure you saw that I said the valuation of the company is not directly correlated with inflation. That obviously implies the possibility of indirect correlation - but that was not the point he was making.

Again, like he, you are twisting yourself up in a knot debating unnecessary issues because you simply cannot admit that Peter Obi made a mistake.

So the company's performance worsened due to the economic situation, right? The greatest skill of investors is knowing how to forecast economic conditions and knowing when to buy and when to sell. The indicators of recession were there.

But Obi did not sell, because, as you and I know very well, his family, and therefore himself, had an interest in those companies he invested in.

How do you defend the indefensible?

And are you telling me that all the companies in Nigeria suffered a loss in valuation because of the deteriorating economy?

In any case, what the state government should have done is simply demand a certain portion of shares in exchange for certain concessions, like subsidised or free land, or even tax exemptions or reductions. There are so many ways Obi could have attracted that investment without taking state money and putting it into these companies. Even he knows it was wrong.

That is why when Kadaria Ahmed confronted him about it, he initially denied some of these things! He knew it was unethical and now it has even proven to have been economically unwise.

He didn't invest solely for share price appreciation. That's where most of you guys are getting it wrong.

He said that investment put up by the state government was what made the company build their factory in Anambra state. It's a huge difference. You want jobs for your people. You want companies to come and invest to boost economic activities. There's no better way to do that than doing exactly what he did.

See as far as the company is still operating in Anambra state. Paying taxes, employing locals, sourcing materials from the state it's not a mistake. It will be mischievous of a governor of a state to value such a venture by looking at just the value of the shares.

He should give us figures of taxes paid by the company, shares dividend, number of people employed and let's judge based on those variables. I'm from Delta state. I wish our former governors made sure investments rather than looting recklessly. We will be better of today for it.

As far as investment goes the state has more to gain from such investment. As an individual it will probably be a bad investment because I will only be looking at my private pocket. I don't collect government taxes. Employment is not my problem. Infact if the company can employ only one person to do all the jobs it will be better for me because I want more profit.

You are here tying yourself up in a knot trying to debunk financial analysis from a former central bank governor. You don't even understand what you're saying. The share price is not directly correlated with inflation. It is, like every other asset, correlated with the performance of the company.

So, if the company was doing well, its share prices, and valuation will rise with the dollar not drop against it.

Obi is not perfect, and has many flaws. Until you can acknowledge this, you people are just doing a personality cult in the garb of a political movement. And everyone else can see this!

Lol... How can companies perform when the economy is sick? When purchasing power of Nigerians have been greatly eroded. If you're into investments you won't say what you just said. And for a state government it's even different. I can bet that the investment the state governor put up was the reason the company decided to build the factory in the state.

As far as the company is still operating, pays tax, employ people and source some of it's materials locally it's a good investment for the state.

Under Peter Obi, Anambra had the least unemployment rate according to NBS. How do you think it happened? Did those jobs fall from the sky? Soludo is just being mischievous with his statement.

Atleast we're not talking about monies that have been looted. There's an enterprise running.

This is the only reason I will travel down to Delta to Vote Peter Obi of Labour Party. We can't take the risk of having same people continue with their jobs for the next four years.

Which Delta state? Where is the infrastructure in Delta state?

Where is the industry in Delta state?

Will an Anambarian come to Delta state to use our hospitals, Market, schools etc? The only open heart surgery facility in the South South and southeast is in Anambra.

Enugu is a home of civil servants. I spent 4years in UNN. If you're looking to make money and be productive. The only place to go to in the South East is Anambra state you can take it to the bank.

Politics is just the leveller. If not someone like Okowa should be several sits behind Peter Obi in terms of governance and even personal achievements.

Peter Obi governed Anambra with less than 1/3 of the resources available in Delta state. Till today the difference is clear in both states. I'm from Delta state. Anambra state is like 20years ahead of Delta state in all ramifications.

We from Delta go to Anambra to see specialists in their hospitals. We depend on them for general supplies.

Without Anambra state I don't know where we will be getting our motorcycles from which is the most common mode of transportation in rural areas in Delta state.

Okowa is a huge disappointment. He's going to leave debt profile of more than #500 Billion for unborn generation of Deltans with no asset to back up the debt.
