HMMM THIS Parapet thing got me confused, i am planing a 1 storey building, and i didnt specify to the architect that i would be doing parapet, all the drawings civil-mechanical-electrical are ready, do i take the arguement above to imply that i need further pillars/reinforcement and calculations cos of the parapet??

When the floor to ceiling height is more than 3.9m or 13feet

. You will have to introduce columns/pillars from the point of your foundation blinding.A good iron bender will guide you as to the points depending on the span of your structure.I want to assume you did full chaining on the external walls of the structure.

Main things that needs to be checked are you block strenght and the way they are keyed into each other and the total height of the building . You can still add your concrete parapet to the building without adding addition columns.
If the building headroom is double volume you should add columns very key.

It is very possible, but I am adding a small warning, bring a professional to look at what had been done before you continue.

Only a professional with good knowledge of structures will give you the right answers after a site visit.

I can start to explain the processes but without seeing things as it is and asking the right questions, but the recommendations might be incomplete.

But don't be discouraged, it is possible.

So I'll just go straight to the point.
I met this guy in my Church and days later, he started showing interest in me. In less than a month of meeting me, he started making marriage proposals, telling me he would want to meet with my people for introduction. I told him it was too early and besides, I would want to complete my studies before settling down. But he suggested we went for the introduction first and then waited till after my graduation for the marriage. Again, I told him it was too early for him to start making marriage proposals, as he had not known me for long, and that I wouldn't want to rush into marriage, cos I would Want to know who I would be getting married to. His reply was that he doesn't like dating before marriage, so I told him to look elsewhere, that I can't marry someone I haven't taken my time to study. On the long run, he said he would want us to court and that he would wait for me to finish my schooling, because he doesn't want to lose me.




Now, this guy is very caring, supportive and hardworking. Though he didn't go to a university, and the doesn't know how to speak well, I'm not bothered about that, cause I like him for who he is and not what he has achieved. But the problem is, I'm not tall, I'm just 5.4ft and I'm a bit taller than this guy. When I think of the kind of children we would have in future if I marry him, it gives me a lot of concern. I don't want my children to be called names such as dwarf, short devil, akakpor, etc. I'm confused here. Apart from his height, the guy is ok. Pls will our heights affect our children? Your kind advice are needed. Thanks in anticipation.

Parapets are planned from the start of any project, pillars are planned in important parts of the building to support the extra weight. But if you didnt plan this from the beginning, you can still add a parapet after careful reinforcements are done. Make sure to consult a professional to visit the site and advice you on the right steps to take.

Truly...people can never appreciate what a professional goes through in 1- getting educated and 2- qualifying as a professional, until they take out time to understand what such processes involve.

Bros its a value thing i understand your frustration. This is what i will say there is rate of fees for all professionals as stipulated by law u all should have a copy. I will try post it later in the day. armed with these you can negotiate and know what his/her role should be vis a vis what he should be paid for doing the Job. Cost of drawings in Lagos, Abuja and Portharcourt are bound to become tedious we hope to read tge nation of quacks running here and der as Architects and consultants.
