Your building the said site creates a conflict of interest.

In my experience, I have seen reputable and well recommended contractors perform poorly because of the high level of trust that resulted in minimal checks and balance on them.

And I have seen an equal number of competent but dubious, heartless contractors perform remarkably due to adequate supervision and an open promise of more contracts
Your comment is contradictory...How do we now label incompetent contractors?

It will be difficult for a dubious contractor to suddenly care about integrity, they will naturally show these dubious tendecies, it is in them....

. Well said. But I have been following some threads and even looked upon the moniker of certain persons and I am of the view that all you see is not as they claim it to be. They all know themselves because they belong to a clique which they have formed and NL have given them such opportunity.
How do u mean by the bold? this is a faceless forum, don't be afraid...

Why i really don't take this issue of bad contractors seriously on NL is because the few good ones we have aren't even getting jobs as it ought to be...So who is now awarding contracts to the bad ones? Everybody keeps making reference to brabus, even those who didn't give him any single thing to do keep shouting brabus the bad contractor. We have good contractors like Abdulwastecx & podosci, dubemcapital, spyder, aventures, skimanski, koloshangone...etc they are many, u don't need to spend months on NL to single them...If the good ones to me doesn't seem to be getting more than enough contracts, were do even the bad ones get contracts from? undecided Everyone will begin to scream brabus...even among the 12 disciples....there was Judas...

Okay .. this is the reason i ask .. I have been burnt by bad workers and most times they start out very good, they earn your trust and hence you give more projects and this is when they go rogue on you. and trust me, i have a lot of bad experiences; i can write a book on it.

I would wait for other peoples' comments.
U do direct labour or contract?
Are these bad contractors from NL?

Hi Guys,

I have dabbled in buildings (hostels and private apartments) myself in the past and i still need quality builders and other types of workmen from time to time. One thing i struggle with is how to get reputable people, people whose previous work can speak for them. Do you guys think if we had a platform where people can bid for projects, provide estimate, update their clients, show progress of work with pictures would help.

My background is in IT and i can easily build such a platform. I would gain by also having access to a pool of workers and also the app would be monetised in some way or form.

I know there are some popular people on nairaland, but information such as previous works can be difficult to track easily. Also feedback from clients would help so that we can all make an informed decision. I am committed to build this platform to completion if enough interests is shown.
We don't need all these to know how to select a good contractor. Just click on the moniker of any builder u find interesting & read through his works & comments, so u can get feedback from persons he has worked for....for me i think that will do...incompenent contractors can still penetrate the said platform u intend creating...

A column can be placed at the end of a cantilevered slab provided adequate provision is made for the punching effect of the column.
For this particular building, the column will only carry a light roof load and concrete fascia load, the load is relatively light and there is a very closed by column coming from the ground floor adjacent the column at the cantilevered end.
thanks alot

The placing of columns directly on the RC Slab results in "Punching Shear". The region of the slab under the effect of Punching shear was adequately designed to counter the effect and Required reinforcement provided.
Regards.
Thanks man podosci. So if the region of placement is well designed, there is nothing wrong with it? I have experienced it on one of my build in the past, the engr said it is proper, but i wasn't comfortable with it, as i saw it as extra load...since it is upper floor, columns wouldn't be needed that much...

Casting of the suspended floor (slab-beam construction)

Before pouring of wet concrete can be done, careful inspection of all the beams and slab rebar is carried out to check for fault, joint, cover, spacing of rings, spacing of slab rebar, extension of cantilever rebar into adjacent slab and the presences of organic materials like wood on top of the slab spaces.
Very neat work as usual. my is question; is proper to start a new pillar or column at the slab(decking)?

walling to lintel level, the project is a duplex 5 bedroom duplex with a 2 bedroom unit behind on same foundation, the foundation and german flooring just got completed and we are at walling of ground floor to decking level since its still going up. So at we are at walling of down floor which is 3 bedroom all ensuit and 2 bedroom 2 bath. I was charged 270,000 for this stage with the rational that they only lay 70 block a day. The supervisor overseeing the projects kind of agree with them as to the 70 block a day which is why am seeking outside opinion. the supervisor/engineer said 3400 blocks is what is needed for this stage 3400 9' inch block/70 done a day=48.57 appro 48, 48 x 4500/day( 3500/bricklayer=1500/laborer, he said its a laborer to a bricklayer so he will use 3 bricklayer and 3 laborers daily). 48x4500=216000 + 56,000( filling of concrete in the column..36 column in all. please help me. i can upload the site work and plan .

Thanks, the reason for 2.5inch is cost cutting, the project is for irrigation purpose so need to minimize cost on the farm.

so if I have to use 6 legs and split the tank capacity I still have to use 4 inch pipe?
@bold....yes sir. taking into consideration the height of the water tank stand, about 30ft. 4" pipe is recommended.... 2.5" pipe is not advisable sir.

What is the idea and motivation? Will biafra stop corruption, or will biafra solve all the problems Nigeria faces? If U.S as diverse as it is can stay together then Nigeria can stay together too.
My brother help me ask them o...I think nigeria should even allow d secession of eastern states, let them experience raw hardship. They think to form a country is all about making flags. This was how south sudan was clamouring for secession...look at the chaos & war going on that country. Can any Igbo man vouch for any honest leader currently in power from that region? Those representing them in national assembly what have they done for them? i just pity them each time i see them exhibiting their folly. If all eastern states were to be like Canada then i would be convinced they can maintain & sustain a nation...but with the way they are currently, honestly na hungry go kill them, they can't sustain it....One can hardly find good roads in anambra...

why 2.5"? When constructing water tank stand 4" is always recommended.
for a height of about 9m i wouldn't recommend 2.5". Go with option two, 6 legs & split the capacity of litres for more stability & use 4" pipes.

. I hope I understand your question before responding. Clients provide funds for their projects while the Architect/Engineer/Builder takes the best approach/suitable option towards achieving the desired result. A client can install the burglary first due availability of funds and later go for dressing of the windows. I want to assume you are yet to start the plastering of your structure and by so you ought to bargain with your builder on how much he will charge you to plaster the entire structure, dress doors, windows, and burglary. Then you can do it in phases and pay him accordingly as finally agreed. Or if you know the value of work to be achieved per day as against daily pay rate you can schedule it and bargain wisely.
If he install d burglary before d window frame...it is going to be difficult to install d window frame & do d dressing...

Very good idea for instance for my site I bought tank first after foundation it's was stolen. My site supervisor advice we should dig soak away and use the sand to fill up the foundation and still have free water anytime raining bricklayers no need to buy water. The soak away serve 2 purpose sand for sand fill of foundation still have free water anytime rain fall. Cost saving yes.
did u plaster the soakaway?

Hello bro,
So I read through your threads, Wheeew, long story short, you married a tough woman. The summary of it all is that her behaviour and yours are not at par, you married a woman you cannot control unless you change your ways and from what you have said you are not a harsh husband. So there are two options for you. I'm not mentioning the phone saga as she would not have reacted in that way if you were A HARSH kind of man. From all indications she don see you finish. A strange man calls your wife and she couldn't proffer any decent excuse, rather just waved you off like a fly? Not wanting to annoy you any further but like I said, you have two options.
God bless u for the bold...

@Op i am afraid sex has reduced u to nothing, u ve lost your worth & respect in the eyes of your wife because of your shameless demand for sex...How can a married woman be communicating with another man under your nose & she even insulted u for questioning her....haba!!! wetin your wife give u chop that made u so weak? is it because of d sex? i feel for u bro....

When a woman start choosing when a man will have sex with her....d man should know d respect is gone...Any woman that truly respects her husband will never withhold sex from her husband deliberately....
