chymer: The Northern Elders Forum (NEF) has voiced its strong opposition to the reported intentions of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to move major departments from its Abuja headquarters to its former base in Lagos.
The NEF expressed its concerns, citing fears that such a move could potentially widen the economic gap between Northern and Southern Nigeria.
Abdul-Azeez Suleiman, the director of publicity and advocacy for NEF, issued a statement highlighting the critical nature of the departments in question, which include Banking Supervision (DBS), Other Financial Institutions Supervision (OFISD), Consumer Protection Department (CPD), Payment System Management Department (PSMD), and Financial Policy Regulations Department (FPRD).
Suleiman argued that relocating these vital components to Lagos would not only fortify the already dominant economic position of Lagos but also diminish the significance of Abuja. While acknowledging the CBN's aim to enhance efficiency and effectiveness, NEF expressed apprehension about the potential adverse impacts of relocating these essential departments on both the institution and the nation.
Suleiman outlined several potential consequences, emphasizing the financial burden and potential brain drain that the move could trigger.

Politics › Re: RE: Rivers Crisis: Gov. Fubara Has Already Won The War, Why Fighting On? by joinnow: 4:16am On Jan 12, 2024 |
sirpharrell: The crisis in Rivers State came to the public burner when the House of Assembly attempted to impeach the Governor of the state, Sim Fubara. However, keen observers know that the surprising frosty relationship between the Gover and his godfather, former Governor Nyesom Wike predated the infamous impeachment notice. The Assembly chambers was burnt in a futile attempt to prevent the Assembly from sitting. One thing led to the other and President Tinubu eventually intervened to broker a ceasefire.
That is where Fubara won the war. The intervention of the President has ensured that he would no longer be impeached and it is most likely that he would spend his constitutional four years tenure as Governor. The whole war was about the seat of the Governor and from all indications, he won't be removed any longer. Without the intervention of the President, knowledgeable people in the politics of the state know that Wike would have impeached the Governor. Constitutionally, he has all the arsenals to achieve it.
On top of keeping his seat, the crisis has afforded Fubara the opportunity of untangling himself from the choking clutches of his godfather. There are stories of the almost inhuman conditions he was made to operate as Governor. Stories of how Wike remotely controls everything in the Government House, even to the point of determining who should and not visit the Governor, abound to those who have their ears to the ground. Most despicable were stories of how he was being disrespected by his own appointees. Clearly, that can not be the case anymore especially as he is no longer on talking terms with his godfather. Fubara is now finally in charge of his government.
Anyone in Fubara's shoes should have seen these as victory and cease to fight. He should have stopped his dispute with the Assembly where he has only 4 out of 31 members. I thought he would be more interested in getting the Assembly to reverse the suspension of his 4 supporters so that they can resume to sit with their colleagues. He needs those his 4 supporters in the House rather than out of it. At least, they can be his eyes and ears in the House. There is no need in continuing a losing battle in the Assembly when he has already won the war.
But Fubara is not being strategic in managing the victory. On the surface, it looks like he is being reconciliatory but that is far from the truth in reality. He is the one now taking battles to the other side. He should have avoided being spurred on to fight on and go for the jugular of Wike. These later day supporters are not leading him on because they support him. In fact, most of them did not support him during the elections. He is their darling today because they see him as a tool through which they can destroy his godfather. Some are seeing this as an opportunity to get into the government and cash out. Some have tried desperately to make it look like an ethnic war between the Ijaws and the Ikwerres. They know their motives.
Fubara should know better. He should know the motives of these emergency supporters leading him to continue battling when he had already won the war. He should play the right politics now that will bring the crisis to a manageable level so that governance does not continue to suffer. He has won the war for the seat of Governor and liberated himself from the clutches of his godfather. But listening to war mongers and urging him to go for the kill might put his victories in jeopardy. In politics, one must learn to choose his battles wisely.
https://www.nairaland.com/7938508/rivers-crisis-gov-fubara-already
NOTE: I did this piece on the 12th of December before Governor Fubara demolished the House of Assembly complex that eventually led to the humiliating terms of settlement he signed in Abuja. The war had long been won by Fubara but he and his supporters failed to recognise it and kept on fighting instead of consolidating on the victory. What was the point of demolishing the Assembly complex? How exactly did that demolition help the Governor?
For those who thought otherwise and were urging him to continue fighting when he had already won the war, what has the Governor gained between December 12th and now? Politics is more of brains than brawn. What of the 15 January judgement |

Valoromega: We are currently expecting our first child , she should give birth within a this month.
She has requested money for baby things and I have given her over 400k but she hasn’t both the basic things she needs. She usually go with her mom to the market to get the things but they haven’t even both the things the baby will need in the hospital. They went and bought baby wardrobe even though we already had baby wardrobe that was given to us on our wedding , she also both baby duvet without buying bed , the clothes she bought was for a month old baby , she didn’t even buy the first wear the baby would use , so far I haven’t even seen anything tangible she has bought with 400k plus I’ve given her, she hasn’t even bought the things she needs after delivery .
I don’t know if it’s her mom that’s telling her to buy those things, the mom doesn’t even care where the money comes from , she just demands that we buy this and that .
I was thinking the money I gave her would be enough to buy the most basic things she and the baby needs , now she’s demanding more Tell the hospital to email or Whatsapp you the list for baby delivery. Do online market research. Then her the estimated amount along side the list. They want to exploit you bro. Like mother like daughter. Beside after this you go get experience. |

Duyt1798: Hi guys!
I hope this my post gets to the FP, so I can get insights from a wider audience; even I know some might not make sense, but one thing I've learnt from the short time I joined this platform, is that - sense dey inside nonsense.
Pardon me, my write fit dey a bit lengthy.
I currently work with a multi-national startup coy. My net pay is a bit above 400k naira (this's at the moment), I've worked for about 2 years. I'm married with two kids and expecting the third.
Now my dilemma is that, I've not been able to save up funds, I feel like my living condition doesn't reflect what I earn. Shingbai like this, I no get for account. The last I could remember, I go deep hand for forex, e nearly give me hypertension (I lost about 2m). I still dey pay debt wey I incur as a result.
Now where I need assistance is, looking at the amount I'm earning, how do I spend? Please for those that will be kind enough to give suggestions, let it practically explained, as in help me break am down to the amount wey I suppose spend, how I suppose spend am, and wetin I suppose save.
I believe say many family people dey here wey get better experiences.
Thanks 🙏. Budget formula to use 50/30/20 50% basic necessities rent, food, cloth, transportation 30% fun and want like vacation etc 20% saving and investment Or 70/10/10/10 70% basic necessities rent food cloth transportation 10% wants and fun 10% investment and saving 10% tithe or charity Or 80/10/10 80% basic necessities 10% wants and funs 10% Saving and investment. Note if your annual house rent is bigger than 30% of your annual salary better lookout for another house to rent that is within the range of 30% of your annual salary. Eg if your annual rent is bigger than 1.4m move out. Hope this helps |

Politics › Re: Give Betta Edu A Second Chance — Femi Pedro by joinnow: 8:09pm On Jan 10, 2024 |
adesegun121: Olufemi Pedro, former Deputy Governor, Lagos State has described as unfortunate the circumstances Dr Betta Edu, the suspended Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, found herself and pleaded that she should not be consigned into the dustbin of history.
Chief Pedro in a statement noted rather sadly that what happened to the youthful minister can happen to any young person with limited experience in public life and urged Nigerians to give Betta Edu a second chance.
While stressing that the public is right in condemnation of the alleged maleficence reported at the Humanitarian Ministry, Chief Pedro said the lessons of the debacle must not be lost on all Nigerians , and especially the youth, adding that nobody should laugh at the 37- year old Minister.
“What happened to her could have happened to many of us whether by omission or commission”, Pedro said.
Despite the seeming misadventure, Chief Pedro maintained that the country needs more young people in position of authority, insisting that the error of one or two youth should not discourage that.
Pedro who described the suspended minister as his daughter, said the mistake made by Betta Edu should not be a reason to discard her and the contributions she made to the party and present administration.
He however advised young people who find them in position of authority to seek out mentors that guide them through banana peels often associated with public office. The Statement reads:
“I first met Betta when she was introduced to me as a candidate for Women Leader of our party in Abuja in early 2022. Shortly after, she was in Lagos on a courtesy visit and I immediately liked her style, her carriage and comportment. She exuded confidence, was articulate, knew what she wanted and appeared to me as focused, determined and ambitious. She later won the election and became the Party’s Women Leader.
“Betta worked very hard during the campaign. She was everywhere mobilizing women, campaiged with the Presidential Campaign team all over the country, and attended most of the events. We also traveled together to attend the Chattam House event where she was asked to respond to a question by our Candidate and she discharged herself creditably.
“I wasn’t surprised when she eventually became a Minister. Honestly, if I were the President, I would not have hesitated to also appoint her as Minister because she’s not too young to serve as Minister, she’s a qualified medical doctor, experienced enough as a former commissioner and women leader of our party, and has demonstrated drive, passion, and loyalty to qualify as a Minister.
This is where I disagree with those who are tagging her as too inexperienced, too young, and too green to be appointed Minister.
“We have all read about her wrongdoings and her suspension by the President and questioning by the EFCC.
“This is as it should be. I hope and pray that at the end of the day, she would have learned a hard lesson on how to conduct herself as a public officer and navigate the banana peels in the corridors of power.
“Betta Edu is like a daughter to me and I feel really sorry for her for the mess she finds herself in. I asked myself what if she’s my daughter? Would I disown her? She’s a promising bright star who could have served this nation in higher capacities.
“The nation needs more young people in public service and I hope her misadventure will not discourage others in her age bracket.
“My candidate advice to all young people who are called to service in public office is to seek out a mentor of a public officer serving or retired with some measure of credibility and good pedigree who will guide and mentor them on how to navigate the murky waters of public office.
“To us critics and commentators, I get it that we are genuinely shocked and angry as to the level of malfeasance we are witnessing in public service, but be aware that we should rather learn from her mistakes rather than laugh at her. What happened to her could have happened to many of us whether by omission or commission.
“Public service is a serious and sensitive business where your actions or inactions could have serious consequences for millions of citizens that you’ll never meet personally. Temptations, greed, and indiscipline could easily be your undoing especially if you are young, carefree, and with no one mentoring and guiding you.
“There are still many young, smart, focused, and dedicated young men and women out there who are interested in public service at the leadership level not because of the attraction of free money and power but for the genuine desire to serve the country and the people. I urge you not to be discouraged but to continue to pursue your dream. The nation needs you”.
