All children have equal rights to the properties of their parents wether make or female. The first child has same right as the other children.

...... I have been following your arguments and I must say that you are right but where you are getting it wrong is on the issue of the Obi.

No two people inherits an Obi in Igbo land. But that the first son has it does not give him any right to eject others from it until they are able to acquire theirs

The supreme court is also right in a way. Why I used in a way here is because they have helped in solving the problems whereby a wealthy man passed on without a male child and his brothers comes to take over his properties siting the issue that he has no male child.

Another one is a situation whereby a wealthy man dies and his sons greedily wants to deny the daughters of their shares in their father's estate or properties. Note here that estates does not include the late man's ancental home.( That is a no go area for the female) except on circumstances that the late man was an only child and failed to have a surviving son which automatically makes the only daughter to inherit it but on the condition that she will remain unmarried but have to bear children to sustain her father's legacy. Note also that if at anytime she decides to get married after producing an heir,that her son takes over the Obi while she looses because she cannot be answering another man's name and be claiming ownership of her father's ancentral home.

Even before the supreme court judgment,lots of men has been giving out properties in the city to their female children if he has enough to go around. But if he doesn't,the children can sell and share the proceed as they deem ok.

They may choose to meet the chief and he then passes his decision based on your assertion. Once the matter goes beyond the chief and heads to court the chiefs will loose it so says the court.
