Well @ Josh64 you do make some valid points in reminiscing on Thanos not being the villain of the movie and should actually be seen as the 'Hero' of the movie.
But here's what you failing to see, his idea was morally/logically flawed and that makes him not just the Villain of Infinity War but a Psychopathic Villain at that . Let me expantiate

Take this scenario...

" A carpenter has the resources of making just 4 chairs ,and base on his resources he did make 4 chairs for some kids who would come visiting later on,unfortunately the kids who came visiting were up to 8 ,recall he made 4 chairs ,fortunately he stumbled on 'something' which granted him infinite resources, he only has one choice. . . Which is? Of cus make more chairs for the remaining 4 kids and so all 8 kids gets a chair to sit ,this is the only logical approach right?

You see how fvcked up that sounds? He literally has the Infinity Gauntlet that contains the Infinity Stones that started the Universe he could damn just increase the resources in the universe I mean he does have 'infinite' power to do it but no Thanos rather commits Genocide.

Thanos is the Psychopathic Villain of Infinity War who has the motivations of an insane man on steroids,,and if you think otherwise then there's something seriously wrong with your Moral code.

These oyinbo people have been putting this question to our face for a long time. They did it in the movie "2012", they did it with Samuel Jackson character in "Kingsman" and a lot of other movies. The issue is humans are killing the planet and while the western cultures have realized this and started steps to curb the one single menace of overpopulation by adopting checks like same sex marriages, abortions and even China adopted the "one child rule", our moral compass has limited us to nothing but overpopulate the whole continent that we now run to their place for sustenance.

As the character played by Samuel L Jackson in "kingsmen" put it, once a virus attacks a host, a power struggle ensues. Either the hosts kills the virus or the virus kills the host, either ways, the virus dies. I think you can guess who the virus is in this scenario. The bottom line still remains, Thanos sought for a permanent fix, and he found it. Iron man had knowledge and he built weapons and shields for himself, Asgardians built a city made of gold after pillaging planets and ruled over them from the sky, even avengers only pick the wars that suits them, even the Wakandas built a dome to shield themselves from the outside world, meaning the troubles of the outside world is of no concern to them; but not Thanos, he sought for only one thing, and that is balance to the entire universe. That is enough reason for me to make him the hero in that movie.
