Beware of Flatterers
Proverbs 29:5

A man that flatters his neighbour spreads a net for his feet.

After every effort to arrest Jesus had proven abortive, some disciples of the Pharisees along with the Herodians, came to meet him with a readied question—they probably intended to create slander (Matt.22:16-18). Their intent was perfectly cloaked under the disguise of an accurately delivered praise. These were the flatterers who had hidden motives for their request but knowing fully that Jesus might not respond, garnished their presentation with a convincing tone of superlatives.

Presently, there have been several accounts of ministers, who had once display the unlimited power of God effectively but have become watered-down and deprived spiritually, due to their inordinate affection for sycophants who draw out commendation where there is none. Their acts are driven by the reason of human accolades. It seems they have forgotten that flatterers are ego boosters, who by unguarded outpour of eloquent words, set a trap by which the recipient lose every sense of godliness and character.

Satan our enemy may not always take the direct battle route all the time. Sometimes, he is just acting on a strategic detour, like becoming more of a deceptive admirer than a critic, so as to ignite the flame of arrogance of the heart for the purpose of absolute self-destruction.

Put it in mind, that as you go up the ladder of life, you are likely to receive flattery in one way or another. It is also important to be able to identify such gap where the enemy can lay a trap in this regard. Never forget that when you are criticized, it has the potential to move you to trusting God more in all things; but when you receive constant adulation at the detriment of factual consideration, you may eventually become complacent and arrogant. That precisely, is what the devil wants.

Religion / Peace Should Have Been Our Reality (Sunday Reflections) by joshadedapo(m): 8:43am On Oct 03, 2021
In the world today, all we see and hear is chaos everywhere (kidnappings, terrorism, police brutalities, murders, highjacking of government etc) wearing its powerful fangs on the fabric of serenity and sanity, the world as an extensive community should have been predisposed to. For sometime now, peace seems to have eluded some countries completely while others (Nigeria for instance) grapples with frequent destabilisations as a result of usual apathy to the chantings and demand for social equity and justice. In all comparisons, the present state of the world can be described as a boiling pot of soup with ingredients added to make it better only intensified the storm within. Here we can say fears within, fightings without.

More than anything, man seeks for peace where he can find it and the more the desire for peace, the greater the price required. The problem with the society today is not about the value placed on peace, but the little inconsiderations that bedevil the sanctity of a harmonious coexistence. The will and desire to have all at the behest of great and unreasonable sacrifice and the insatiable wants of man lead him further away from God, the Originator of peace into a dangerous seclusion with life's tragedy.

In the midst of these commotion and daily happenings of chaos all around the world and with man, there is repose for any soul who demands it through the right channel, which is our Saviour's call. The call is not based upon the deception of spiritual exercises or theoretical philosophies directed at influencing the functions of the mind. Rather, this is a divine call to reevaluate choices and make better decisions. A personal check is essential from the backdrop of Jesus's statement that you should do unto others what you would love them to do to you.

Eventually, man will come to his senses, but just like a foreboding situation, hope it would not be too late? Hope we would not be consumed by hate? Hope we would see clearly before time elapses that some things such as love and peace of mind and coexistence supercedes whatever priorities we've placed out there? Hope we would be reasonable enough to see how little chippings and clippings can disfigure a beautiful frame? Hope we would think before we speak, reason well before we act? Hope our governments would not eventually see the result of ever fanning the embers of discord and animosity just for cheap political gains or relevance? All in all, I hope it is not too late before we realised peace should have been our reality all along?

Hope you won't get mad if I say it
But I understand if you get mad when I say it
Because I won't like it too if you were the one saying it
It is not compulsory to say it
Nevertheless I must say it

Religion / Is This What Jesus Really Looked Like? by joshadedapo(m): 4:52pm On May 12, 2017
What did Jesus look like? In reality, no one in the modern era knows the answer to that question, though there are plenty of works of art that attempt to imagine Christ’s facial and bodily structure.

It’s a topic that continues to spark intrigue, which is why every year, without fail, a rendering first published in 2002 that showed what someone who lived during Jesus’ time might have looked like ends up making headlines. It’s that rendering that some experts believe offers up one of the best lenses into what Christ’s face might have looked like.

The most recent article about this intriguing image was published on Saturday by the Daily Express, which explained that the computer-generated face — which looks nothing like traditional renderings of Christ — was created by facial artist Richard Neave.

It’s an intricate graphic that was created by British scientists and Israeli archeologists who employed forensic anthropology. The image features a man with short brown hair, dark eyes and a dark complexion; the signature long hair that is observed in most pieces of art depicting Christ is missing, with the rendering showing a short cut, according to Popular Mechanics.

Neave triangulated information in an effort to come up with the image, relying on examples of what Jewish men from the first century looked like as the basis for the final product. To accomplish this goal, he and his team were able to observe skulls that were found near Jerusalem, using them as the baseline for the overall facial and head structure.

And this is the image they came up with:
