Christianity Etc › Re: Is It Wrong To Confront A Pastor Politely by Jossymekoos10: 9:37am On Mar 26, 2023 |
Mummytoo: Good morning nlanders
Happy Sunday to u all
I'm eager to know if its wrong to confront a pastor, because all my life I hate going pastors for anything, something happened on Monday, I didn't know who else to talk to ....so I went to the alter to pray and met with my pastor, I explained what happened between my husband and I and he settled the matter sweetly . I was so happy to have peace and joy back in my marriage till yesterday (Saturday) pastor called me out of that plenty congregation and told d church everything including what my husband has been hiding for years, he even added more things that didn't even happen to the story😂. I was just quiet and respectful since I wasn't expecting him to behave like that.
He prayed for me and I just left, he started getting angry that I can't even praise for my healing me or dancing round, I was just shocked at everything happening I left to the backyard and later went in again.
Immediately I got home I told my husband how he's image has been tarnished in church for what he didn't do, we had a misunderstanding and pastor said he flogged me (that didn't happen)
Is it wrong to confront him.... Coz I will act like I'm going to testify and correct that wrong impression he said about my husband
Just one time experience with pastor is killing me like this
Good morning ma Please the pastor was wrong Politely state your grievance with him okk
Don't engage in exchange of words with the pastor no matter what his response is You have passed your message
Have a great week |

Verance: You guys are quick to quote Paul in the first few verses of 1 Cor 14 but will never reference the first case of speaking in tongues, why can't a "spirit filled" Yoruba Pentecostan minister to an Igbo man in Igbo language? Mind you, Apostle Peter stated clearly that some of Apostle Paul's teaching are difficult to comprehend and I believe his writings in 1 Cor 14 about the gift of tongues is one of those difficult teachings of Paul to understand and has proven to be a big stumbling block to Pentecostals making your worship sessions being sessions of frenzy. For context sake, if you read 1 Cor 12, 13 you will understand that the gifts of the spirits are not given primarily for the purpose of "self-pleasing" they are giving to individuals to serve the body of Christ. Also, you guys have clearly elevated the gift of tongues above all other gifts of the spirit some even saying speaking in tongues is a prerequisite to salvation.
Please refer to the links below to gain a better understanding of my points
https://www.gotquestions.org/praying-in-tongues.html
https://thecripplegate.com/addressing-continuationist-arguments-from-1-corinthians-14/ I agree with you but there is the gift of interpretation Gift of speaking in tongues is different from the gift of interpretation It's also possible to teach about Christ through speaking in tongues Remember, Paul said these gifts are given by the Holy Spirit to whom he chooses but we can desire and pray for these gifts |

HomeTutorsPro: The irritating babbling they do in churches today are religious nonsense as usual. Speaking in tongues means "to speak in a language you previously do not know how to speak. To understand the whole idea of speaking in tongues as recorded in the Bible, look at Acts Chapter 2. The gathering on the Pentecost comprised of people from every nation (language) under heaven. Acts 2:6. The apostles needed to tell them about the wonderful works of God but they couldn't speak all the languages. Not all the people understood the language of the apostles either. Worse still, there were no translators! That was when the Holy Spirit came down to solve the problem. There are two possibilities.
1. The Holy Spirit made the apostles to speak the language of every nation under heaven so that every person in the congregation could understand.
2. The Holy Spirit made each member of the congregation hear the apostles in their own language. That is, the apostles were speaking their own language (Galileans) - Acts 2:7 but each listener heard a translation (by the Holy Spirit) in his/her own language.
Now, whichever of the above happened on Pentecost, the goal was the same: a language barrier was broken and there was effective communication between people who would not have understood each other. That is the essence of speaking in tongues. The word of God should bring light and understanding. Psalm 119:130. If I go to preach to a congregation comprising of Hausas, Ibos, Yorubas, Isokos, Kanuris, Ibibios, Itsekiris and even people from other countries who speak several other languages, I would need the help of the Holy Spirit to speak to those people in a language they'll understand otherwise I haven't preached.
I don't want to make my response too long. But here is what the Bible says about speaking in tongues.
1. It is to be directed towards unbelievers so they may believe (Prophesy is for believers). 2. Speaking something that listeners do not understand is madness. 3. If you must praise God in a tongue that your listener do not understand, there must be an interpreter. 4. If there is no interpreter, you must remain silent in the church.
You can see all the above in 1 Cor. 14:22 - 28. Good morning sir I love your response sir I wish I could discuss with you face to face But there are things that I would love you to consider then may be we will have a clear understanding First about what happened on the day of Pentecost whether Apostles were speaking their own language or every language Think about this statement of Paul : Paul said when I speak in an unknown tongue, my spirit prays but I don't understand what I am saying Speaking in tongues is a gift Understanding of tongues is another gift on its own Remember Paul told them to pray for the gift of understanding speaking in tongues You will see these in 1 cor 12 and 1 cor 14 If you need specific verses, let me know You said Speaking something listener's don't understand is madness and I agree But you must understand the context in which Paul was saying that He was saying it in context of public worship like in the church or where people are listening to you But Paul encouraged them to speak in private It's is gibberish and nonsense when you are speaking it in public and there's no interpret but it's not gibberish if you are a speaking in private |

Jokanem: https://www.jw.org/en/bible-teachings/questions/speaking-in-tongues/ Good morning sir We are all learning and striving to grow in Christ But before you teach such thing like this, you must be sure that Holy spirit taught you not just your pastor Some of the things you said we true but about how you get the gift of speaking with tongues, and when it will end and being a means of passing messages , I humbly say that you are not right Please check 1 cor 12 from 1 to 11 But let me summarize Paul said that these gifts are given by the Holy Spirit to WHOM HE CHOOSES Please that they were laying hands then does not mean it's by laying hands that you get the gift, for example, they laid hands to heal but it doesn't mean that you can't speak words to heal Secondly, if you study 1 cor 14 to the end Paul asked the Christians to desire spiritual gifts and pray to get them But he advises them on the gifts to desire There's a lot to say but I can't type them Then About speaking with tongues being a means of passing messages : I agree to some extent But Paul said that speaking in tongues is a gift on its own, then interpretation of tongues is another gift on its own That was why he advised them not to speak in tongues in public if there is no interpreter but they should speak in private and pray for the gift of interpretation About when speaking in tongues will end : Paul said it is when we know in perfection That is when Christ will come again Let's be careful what we teach. Paul said teachers will be judged more strictly than others May God continue to grow us all in christ. AMEN |

Now the issues be say why have sex during fasting..?? Before fasting una no do?? After fasting una say Lai Lai e no go sweet.. na the one during fasting una want....
Arise O Compatriots.......... Good morning sir Your submission is understandable but it's a choice If husband and wife choose to abstain, then it's fine It's not for the pastor to impose it on them If you actually study the passage that pastor quoted, you will see that Paul said that he was not imposing it on anybody You must understand that people have different spiritual levels. In as much as you won't die because of sex deprivation, would you rather that the Christian that can't abstain from sex for such a long period should go and commit adultery or masturbation? Everything must be done in love to keep fellow Christians from committing sin Thank you sir |

bigcil2: I had this discusion with a friend of mine, and I would like we share our personal and Biblical views about the subject topic. For me its a sin, cos there's an intent to sin(sex), conciously or not. Jesus also said if you look at a woman lustfully and in your heart lust for her you have sinned. Please am not a pastor 'lol'. Awaiting responses. My dear, those are qualities of a true Christian. It has nothing to do with being a pastor or not Now to answer your question What prompts someone to kiss a particular person or does the person kiss everyone in this world? It is to satisfy the desires of the flesh for that particular person that he/she kissed When you have lustful desires towards someone and you go ahead to gratify the desires, Yes that is sin Bible said that we should run away from lusts both in thought and actions Hope your question is answered |
Christianity Etc › Re: The Proliferation Of Unknown Tongues In Modern Gospel Music by Jossymekoos10: 11:52am On Oct 16, 2022 |
OnknownSoldier: If you are conversant with the modern-day gospel music industry, you would have noticed a sudden surge of unknown tongues in many gospel songs from gospel artists of mostly black descent. This sudden development in my opinion is worthy of serious interrogation as the Bible says that we should test all spirits so as know which is of God [1 John 4:1].
The gospel songs I knew while growing up emphasized godly living using language(s) that can be understood. The hymns for example are written in plain language(s) and one can attest to the fact that those songs are divinely inspired and spirit-filled. Meanwhile, the present crops of gospel music raving the moment are mostly incorporated with unknown tongues and spiritual chants that can not be understood by anyone and yet we have not found a single interpreter to interpret the tongues in these popular songs. I believe that in itself negates the fundamental injunction stated by Apostle Paul in 1 Corinthians 14:27.
I have been to megachurches in several regions of Nigeria where I have heard worship leaders repeating the same tongues in these popular gospel records verbatim and I get confused each time. Damn! Something is wrong somewhere. It's almost impossible to hear a gospel record these days without hearing an unknown tongue in it. Could that be the latest marketing strategy to sell gospel records?
Yes! I believe in tongues but I also believe that not all spirit-filled Christians must speak in tongues. Some operate in other gifts like prophecy, Discernment, word of knowledge, words of wisdom, walking of miracles e.t.c [1 Corinthians 12:4-11]. it is the spirit that distributes these gifts but I wonder while the present church places much emphasis on tongues. Well, maybe that's because tongues are the easiest to fake. Maybe I said.
Now to my honest questions:
1. If speaking in tongues only edifies the one who speaks it and not the body of Christ as it is in 1 Corinthians 14:4, why will any gospel musician incorporate an unknown tongue in his or her song lyrics for the body of Christ?
2. Where exactly is it written in the Bible that Christians should sing in tongues? Is there anywhere in the Bible the Apostles did? I know pentecostal christians will mention 1 Corinthians 14:15 but is that what Apostle Paul was really saying in that passage?
3. Why were the ancient gospel songs not incorporated with unknown tongues as we have now? Could it be that modern Christian worship has been hijacked by strange spirits?
Above are my reservations about the sudden proliferation of unknown tongues in modern gospel music. I will appreciate answers with biblical reference(s) to my questions in the comment section.
Thanks! It's all about false prophets Speaking in unknown tongues is a spiritual gift But we have instructions on it which is simple If you are in public worship and you cannot interpret it or there's no other interpreter, DO NOT SPEAK IN OTHER TONGUES. Speaking in tongues has no role in music made for public when it's not interpreted Those who violate this instruction are not of God Simple |
Christianity Etc › Re: Why Is It Unforgivable To Sin Against The Holy Spirit by Jossymekoos10: 11:30am On Sep 18, 2022 |
naijaclass: In Christian hamartiology, eternal sins, unforgivable sins, unpardonable sins, or ultimate sins are sins which will not be forgiven by God. One eternal or unforgivable sin (blasphemy against the Holy Spirit), also known as the sin unto death, is specified in several passages of the Synoptic Gospels, including Mark 3:28–29, Matthew 12:31–32, and Luke 12:10, as well as other New Testament passages including Hebrews 6:4–6, Hebrews 10:26–31, and 1 John 5:16.
Good day brother /sister Many people have been deceived into committing the sin against the Holy spirit. The truth is that God's grace and mercy is available for us in times of sin. But the aim is to forgive us and help us to stop sinning. But some people have abused this grace, claiming that Jesus has paid for all the sins one would ever commit. Hence they deliberately continue to sin, they enjoy living in sin while having adequate knowledge of the grace of God. They deliberately twist that knowledge Therefore they are nailing christ again to the cross. That is sin against the Holy Spirit How can you forgive someone that enjoys offending you knowing fully well that he's offending you and unwilling to change

Ken4Christ: I know the heading will surprise most people but it's the truth. Christianity in itself is not a religion but people have made religion out of it.
Christiani is a living relationship with God the Father through our Lord Jesus.
So, you are not a Christian because you are a member of one denomination or the other.
For you to be a Christian, you must be born again or saved. And salvation is a free gift you get by accepting Jesus into your life and Saviour.
According to Romans 10:9-10, it involves two steps,
1. Believe in your heart that Jesus died for your sins. 2. Confess with your mouth that he is your Lord and Saviour.
And you will be saved.
You can be a member of a local church and not a member of the body of Christ written in heaven.
So, don't think you will make heaven because you belong to a local church.
You must be born again.
Do it now before you surprisingly see yourself in hell after you have left this earth. I agree with you but you missed a point Believe /faith without work is dead, so you must show your belief in Jesus by living like he did on earth |

Yungmil: Our level of reasoning is a big problem.
Now settle down and answer this question...
What if you were actually born in let say a village in India and both you and the entire village practice Hindu, will you be saying this same thing? If someone from Islam or Christianity comes to you and start telling you Jesus is the way.
How possible is it that you in the whole village will convert to Christianity. When you know you have been practicing Hindu from birth.
Let's try to reason out of the box sometimes. Contrary to what many think, Christianity is actually a way of life. Try to examine that way of life and see if it's good Another point is that Christianity is not just in words but in power of the Holy spirit to perform miracles People are taking Christianity for granted because of false prophets that are making mockery of it |

My question now is that people who are born into a family of Islam, Hindu, Judaism, paganism and whatever, does it mean they can't make heaven.
Because I know I am a Christian basically because I was born into a Christian home, and I find it difficult to convert to any other religion no matter the amount of preaching, same goes to those born into Islam Hindu and the rest.

Interesting15: It is no longer a secret that premarital sex (or fornication) is something prominent in the circle of youths today. However, it's not only a sin, but there are also tons of terrible repercussions attached to the act. The Bible is straightforward about sexual immorality.
"Flee sexual immorality. Every sin that a man does is outside to the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body" 1 Corinthians 6: 18
Yes, I know you have healthy sexual urges. But you must know how to be in control of yourself, hence you find yourself in trouble and get disgraced (the devil utilizes sin to disgrace people). Trust me, living holy and chaste in a corrupt society like ours is still possible, and it's very beautiful.
"Therefore put to death your members which are on the earth: fornication, uncleanness... Because of these things the wrath of God is coming upon the sons of disobedience" (Colossians 3:5,6)
Premarital sex comes with terrible spiritual repercussions too. When a person indulge in it, you give access to the devil to plunder your life ruthlessly.. And what the devil does is to "steal, kill, and destroy" (John 10:10)
"Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own?" (1Corinthians 6:19)
You don't own yourself actually. Hence, you must live your life pleasing God in holiness and in truth.
There are several sexual temptations out there today. In your school, at home, there are several agents of sexual temptations. Hence, you must always avoid people, places, things, and situations that can lure you into sexual immorality.
"For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit which are God's" (1 Corinthians 6: 20)
When it comes to living a life of true holiness, it gets easier as you give yourself wholly to the Lord Jesus, because He will send the Holy Spirit to you, Who will help you (the Holy Spirit is our Helper). So, if you are yet to give your life to JESUS, this is another good opportunity, as tomorrow might just be too late...
Simply tell Jesus, "LORD JESUS, have mercy on me and come into my life".
"Blessed are those who do His commandments, that they may have the right to the tree of life, and may enter through the gates into the city. But outside are dogs and sorcerers and sexually immoral and murderers and idolaters, and whoever loves and practices a lie" Revelation 22:14, 15
You are blessed for honouring GOD with your body. You will be rewarded by God both here on earth and in eternity..
But if you die in sexual immorality (young people too can die anytime) or the rapture should take place now (the signs are more and more stronger), such person will be condemned into the lake of fire (where there's no more room for repentance). Please help yourself by aligning with GOD now that you are still young.

He said he has given us all things to live a Godly life. But I can't force you to change your opinion. Heb 10 vs 26 makes it clearer. That if you deliberately continue sinning, then nothing more except destruction awaits you. Thanks and God bless NwaAmaikpe:

It is an assurance that God can not run out of patience on us irrespective of the sins we commit, his grace is ever sufficient.
That's why I do not shortchange myself, I will commit whatever iniquity I can because God knows I am imperfect, so why will I try to act righteous when only him is righteous?
