Well said Bre. Its so glaring in some quarters that its a take over or go strategy BUT the Japanese giant wants to weather it through to rubb it in their face. The thing is that US is not the largest market for anything anymore (except for cheap drugs), so smart manufacturers and service providers are moving to the East, so is Toyota before all this and even at the moment.

Whats even the use, its all credit anyways, guarranteed by what?, debt to the chinese and even japan too. BUT I like the Japanese giant's approach and attitude - its really rubbing it in their faces, people still dont see their brands - even though its on every google advert page.
lol

Toyota will survive

@Fhemmmy
Cost analysis has to do with getting it through and off the production line to the factory lot. Shipping is market dependent, 3rd parties in advertisement and screening for dealerships with negotiated incentives and commissions.

Fhemmmy, its called Packaging
Not when you make your highest sales in a particular place, its more cost effective to station the plant there unless you are struggling (to capture the market), then you can decide to import, Note that they can still export from the US and Canada to other regions.

philips,

your missing something. toyota knew about some of these problems far back as 2007 but chose to do nothing about them. how's that for a 'responsible' and 'honorable' brand? Huh
In terms of the Gas pedal fix i meant, talking about knowing since 2007, now, cant you see where the Gov. double standard is more glaring.
guess NTSB closed shop since 07 and just reopened after the Bail out grin grin grin
Let me ask you? what was the Gov's interest in Automobiles before 2007?
What was their percentage ownership in the favorite brands prior to 2007?

The civil courts have been settling issues like this since time immemorial but coming to paint Toyota as a total death trap is hitting below the belt.

Its very unfortunate that Toyota has a plant in the US, that explains how they were able to infilterate and perpetuate the whole thing. For me, it only makes the American auto industry very very cheap.

ignorance could be 'bliss' but being smug about a problem that could potentially lead to one's lose of life is to say the least, reckless.

i love toyota. as a matter of fact i've just pre-ordered a toyota car to be delivered shortly but that will not make me close my eyes to obvious flaws reported by people who have actually driven these cars. if you choose to go by the conspiracy balderdash, it's your call. but take my advice, do a thorough check of your car (if you drive any of these toyotas) just to be sure your not driving your way to no return land! Cool
I never insinuated , suggested or Adviced buyers not to take precautions but if you understand where im coming from, we have seen worse from cars with traction issues, to cars that explode, to self igniting batteries to Transmission issues to crank failures to mention but a few.
The big question is why is America making so much noise about it when their brands have done worse?
Toyota did what is responsible and honorable to correct their mistakes and that is what i am interested in.
fixing Gas pedal aint a big deal and if God help me i can see the letter ''N'' on my transmission when my baby goes coco, the engine should Rev for all i care

This is not a matter of being fooled, it is being for real.
Have you noticed that till Toyota started making their cars in America and in Canada, they never had a problem?
That is food for thought . . . . . but let us leave the conspiracy talk alone.

Now tell me what kinda car you wanna buy and let us put our resources to work for you. . . . . . Peace
yeah yeah i agree with you but on the bolded part i don't seem to understand that cos if Toyota has been selling high in the states at the same period they have recalls (WITH OTHER AUTOMAKERS) and the government looks the other way, now justify why they are humiliating toyota immediately they bailed out their Auto industries?

Let us leave that part for the political section and not worry our heads about it . . . . .
Also, regardless of what it is and was, Toyota has a problem with the recall and i think it is oly fair for people that are paying thru their nose to pay money for the rides, some are re-mortgaging their homes to buy the rides, so it is only fair to make sure that they are not death traps.
Let us leave the conspiracy stuff and make sure safety are not compromised.
Conversely, i think that what is fair and worthy to note is that between 2000 to 2007 no other company has had more recalls than the American brands
Talking about saving lives and how people strive to buy those cars, you think that The Cadillac CTS, STS and the Deville brands that EXPLODE as a result of water pump issues and over heating are less perilous when juxtaposed with a brand with sticky gas pedal?
don't be fooled my dear

philips,
please cut out all this conspiracy theory crap. america is an open country with an open mind. they don't need to 'pull down' any particular company in order to favor their own.

i think you should be more worried about the potential dangers in driving a car which has been identified as a safety risk than being smug thinking that nothing can happen-unless maybe you want to be among the statistics needed to prove that the ntsb was right all along!
I laugh in German, you call it a conspiracy theory huh!
let me direct you to http://www.alldatadiy.com/TSB/yr.html so you can educate your self more on vehicle recalls.
America made so much Ado about Toyota's recall as if IT is something new
when you go down the list, you will easily decipher that within the year under review from 1997 to 2007, Toyota remained the most sought vehicle in the US amidst all the recalls shown there now tell me y this one is different?
All the other auto makers you saw on the list how far?
Does it mean your cherished NTSB went on strike then?lol
This is just about government interest in the Auto industry, toyota should have known better

You really believed Iraq had weapons of Mass destruction? lol My 99yr old granny didn't believe, now that is what i call GOVERNMENT INTEREST!!!!! shocked shocked shocked

But seriously, I think that Toyota thing is an over-hyped conspiracy against Japan / Toyota; more like a desperate move by a dying economy or industry to sell their failed brands by a sabotage against the world's No. 1. Thats just my own understanding of the whole thing and its very unfortunate, BUT from what I gather, its having no impact at all outside the Ford country.
i cant agree less, of course when the government was bailing out the Auto sector, i knew Toyota is in for it, did you hear about the settlement fine, outrageous!
Rule no 1 PHD (Pull Him Down) Uncle Ford,Chrysler,GM can now make sales cos toyota is down. the Government can now recover their bail out fund. America is a Funny country

The rear end of a flat-bed trailer. If it was hit by the Kia itself, it would create damage below the bonnet / grille area. Smiley
I am thinking that its a side impact that tipped it over to the other side but not with a complete somersault
the side dent might be as a result of the total weight of the car sitting on its side, the front lost those grilles through reverberation and considering the fact that such Kia brands are mere plastics u can visualize the rest lol

I doubt it hasn't. Every industry has industry safety standards and regulations and all cars must meet these standard before they're certified for use. The law's been amended continuously. The only explanation is that the triggering system's defective.

How come nobody is also thinking of the possibility of a defective airbag (SRS) system in this car. I have seen a lot of people driving their so called american/japanese machines (cars) with their airbag lights on on the dashboard and yet they dont think about checking it out. I think we are all jumping to hasty conclusions. The lights on your instruments cluster are to warn in case there is a problem and that is why the airbag light is RED not green. So there could have been another side to these stories. Mind you, i am not a kia or hyundai lover.
Defective Airbag on a brand new less than two years?

common sense tells me that the bulk of the people that think its a bad idea are people that theirs went sour, then perhaps got lucky at further attempts this does not necessarily mean that it has to be that way.

Come to think of it, at what age and level of enlightenment does an average Naija girl have her first love? the preponderance falls to a very tender age while a few get to maturity,
now tell me, if you succeeded in having your first love at say 15yrs, because of God knows what, what is the guarantee that you made the right choice? do you even know what choices to make? what do u know?So such rel ships are bound to fail.
The bottom line is that such immature misguided rel ship though they start early hardly materialize into something reasonable.
when you say experience what exactly are you referring to?
Perhaps to be haunted by Bakassi for dating an Armed robber grin grin
Dating a married man?

Christianity Etc › Re: My Boyfriend Is An Atheist. I Love Him But My Family And Friends Hate Him. Help by jpphilips(m): 11:31am On Apr 12, 2010
I can tell you one thing immediately: there is no such human being that is an atheist or one who does not believe in God. What we have are people who do not have the inclination to accept the amazingly multifarious concepts of God that is taught in religions. Each religion paints a different picture of God and incredibly each wants its own concept to be accepted by others and when this does not happen, they brand those who refuse to accept their theories.

Again, what is most frustrating about all these is that each religion tries to monopolise the Almighty, that they alone have access to Him and that only the ways they have prescribed can lead to Him and no other way. Thus they want to force their opinions upon others. Strong willed people who still have within them their humanity cannot accept the various versions held out today of the concept of the Almighty.

Unfortunately, the commercialism that religion has become today makes it imperative that each religion have to device means and strategies to capture a chunk of the 'market'. They do this by besmirching those who do not share their views or who refuse to be drawn into the web of falsehood that is so prevalent today.

In addition, there is so much about life, existence and the Almighty that no religion has been able to explain and so the word 'faith' was coined by them to get people to believe the unbelievables. They have not been able to explain so many things that are in existence today, for example why people are born into particular circumstances where from the very beginning they are exposed to the hard side of life while others are born with golden or silver spoons. Why natural disasters happen and why there is so much wickedness in the world today. Given the number of religious people in Nigeria, the country ought to be the best country in the world to live in. But the reality today should tell you that what is done in the religions cannot be right because it has not brought us progress. Clear and deep thinking people usually reject religion and that is what is mistakenly taken to be atheism.

No right thinking human being can reject the existence of God because the whole of creation attest to His Existence. The very fact that there is creation gives you the proof that there is a Creator. As a minor example, the very fact that there is a computer is proof that there are computer engineers, technologists, designers, programmers etc. However, it is not in the computer's place to decide to believe in the existence of its creator. Whether human beings accept His Existence or not does not change the fact. As everyone knows, creation is a masterpiece of a design in which everything we need to sustain us is provided by the All-Wise Creator.

We all know that everything requires a source of energy to function. Human beings require nourishment, our vehicles require fuel, our industries require electric power and so forth. Even the spirit require power to live as a spirit. Ask your boyfriend the Source of the Power that maintain and sustain Creation or does he not believe that we need power to survive. Listen very well to his explanation of whether power is needed or not, and then the Source of that Power and you will be able to decipher whether he does not indeed believe in the existence of the Creator for He alone is the Source of Power for all creation.

I will stop here for now until you have carried out the exercise and then we can continue when you have the result.

WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

if what they did was converting d.c. to a.c. then it is no news.i did that many years ago using an inverter.it requires seasonal recharge of the battery.their invention can only be news if it does not require battery recharge.
Who said its an invention?
Science/Technology › Re: Nigerian Scientists Develop Fuelless Generator by jpphilips(m): 9:33am On Apr 12, 2010
@ Wirinet

The way you misinterpreted NSA's comment shows that it will take more than a forum chat to make you understand.
like ive said, the journalist may have killed the story, the inventor may have misplaced his terminologies but the concept is not flawed, i ve done something like that though not exactly during my school days thats y it seemed like i understood wot they are doing
going through my posts, you will realize that i still have issues with the charging system cos that was where my own experiment stopped.

since the popularity of deep cycle batteries, i know that green electricity will take a step further.

I really don't want to argue over this, i believe every adult is entitled to his opinion no matter how unrealistic,
you asked about energy loss and i made reference to your everyday automobile, im not insinuating that the loss in energy is completely overruled but it is minimal when you have a reasonable charging system.

I cant really remember fully but back in the days when i experimented on such, the deep cycle battery was not so common so i relied heavily on wet cell that screwed up the project.there are some calculations that must be met for the operation to be successful.

I doubt those contraction can run for one hour (depending on the battery bank)not to talk of one day. A more efficient system would be to connect the fuc.king batteries directly to the load. You would eliminate loss of energy from the various conversions and the noise or friction.
with a Wet cell battery my experiment ran for days, 2 or 3 maybe talking about hours, i just guess you are joking.

my advice for you; ''if you are a curious mind, get a hobby''
Science/Technology › Re: Nigerian Scientists Develop Fuelless Generator by jpphilips(m): 4:43pm On Apr 09, 2010
Well,You may not have thought that if the RPM of the Motor equals that of the coil supposing both are made of the same materials then the same Energy used to
propel the motor will be same for the Alternator with little or no further loss in energy
perhaps you have not bothered to ask why your vehicle crankshaft is rotating both the Alternator, the main engine fan,the AC compressor, the power steering motor, the wheels etc at the same time yet the car runs for years.
OR

in the alternative, the HP and RPM of the Motor can be modified such that it is slightly higher than that of the coil to accommodate loads.
that being the case, then i think the idea is ok except for that charging mechanism or the rectifier might be modified such that the input AC power will be less while the DC power output will be slightly higher than that of the battery, and perhaps will further increase as the battery is depleting.
Now i don't even know the device that can do that but i strongly believe it is possible, (can a pack of capacitors do that?)

Science/Technology › Re: Nigerian Scientists Develop Fuelless Generator by jpphilips(m): 4:20pm On Apr 09, 2010
@Wirinet

An accumulator is just a Battery for storing electricity.
That is true

You power a D.C motor with a battery and connect it again to an alternator and now produce an alternating current from a Direct Current.
that is equally correct because you never thought that you can attach a shaft to a DC motor and hook it up to the coil inside the alternator, The DC motor will probably turn the coil in the alternator (supposedly powered by the battery) surrounded by a magnetic field and boom!! alternating current is produced
Can somebody say Amen!!! grin grin grin

A capacitor does not boost current, it stores and stabilizes output current
I agree with you here maybe he has misplaced a terminology or something

A transformer does not step up current, it transforms - meaning step up or step down) voltage, current depends on the load.
yeah you are correct here but common sensically, i think the guy is just referring to a transformer acting as a rectifier with a huge output. now we can use your formula to calculate the power and juxtapose it with the rating on which ever battery he wishes to use to decipher whether or not it can be able to charge it, in other words the transformer is neither stepping up nor stepping down

This is a poor attempt at a perpetual motion machine. You turn alternator with current from a battery though a D.C. motor and in turn attempt to charge the battery with the current generated from the alternator using a diode and a capacitor.
Since you totally misunderstood the concept i think you will be forgiven for the Aspersion

This is a very poor attempt, even if the system is not loaded, the loss of energy from the system would run down the battery in a very short time. Simply converting the battery D.C. to A.C. through an inverter would be a much more efficient set up, as there would be no mechanical moving parts.

Not to worry my son, some people are thinking while you were sleeping.

I think more work has to be done on the charging mechanism except this concept has more to it
Science/Technology › Re: Nigerian Scientists Develop Fuelless Generator by jpphilips(m): 3:47pm On Apr 09, 2010
WRONG!!! You cannot step up any current as long as you are stepping up the voltage.

The principle of transformer remains that either voltage or current can be stepped up and vise versa but not both.

Power in its most basic sense = voltage X current and transformer deals with turns ratio between the voltages and currents.

This nonsense must stop.
I dont think he really meant what he said grin grin grin
Science/Technology › Re: Nigerian Scientists Develop Fuelless Generator by jpphilips(m): 3:43pm On Apr 09, 2010
It seems the journalist killed the story and the likes of beaf are having a field day.
if i should go by what up2u said then it aint really fuel less like the journalist reported cos it uses battery, lets assume the title is flawed but the concept does not elude simple physics.

except for this

Now since the current produced from the alternator would not be polarized, one would need a diode for polarization
i dont agree with this, the output from the coil alternator is connected to your house directly just like in Gen sets,
Since you already have a Generator alternator like u said

2. Attach a D.C Motor to the rotating end of an Alternator(can be found in our normal generators)
I don't think you need to polarize it again. i think this concept is ok because i have always know that your Gen uses petrol or Diesel just for the combustion chamber to generate heat that is then converted to mechanical motion that will simply be transmitted to the crankshaft through a piston which connects the alternator through a connecting Rod.

The big question is this;
What if this guys have found something that will turn the alternator in place of the conventional thermodynamic set up?
From what Up2 said they have come up with a DC dynamo i think it is a brilliant idea,
i will call you so u can link me up with these chaps, guess we can do business together
guess we may be having patronage from the likes of Thomas beaf grin grin grin
