APOSTLECHUMA: Please stop being ignorant! First of all Fufu (even the Nigerian version) first originated from the Ashanti people of Ghana. You can look it up online. The Ivorians you are talking about are Akans who migrated from the Ashanti Kingdom to present day Ivory Coast. They rather took the Ghanaian fufu to Ivory Coast not the other way round. Kenkey is a staple food for Ga people from Accra, but also eaten in other parts of Ghana. Depending on where you are people eat Fufu or kenkey for lunch. 2 Likes |

Foreign Affairs / Re: Ghana's Western Togoland Region Declares Sovereignty by jrtorrents: 3:15pm On Sep 26, 2020 |
Ghanaian here, let me give some context to this issue 1. After the world war, the British and French divided up German colonies among themselves. The British share of the division was known as British Togoland 2. The people in those area (alright not entirely) are mostly Ewes and speak the language as the cast majority of Togo 3. On 9 May 1956, a referendum was held for the people of British Togoland asking them if they wanted to be part of soon be independent Ghana or be integrated with French Togoland (current Togo). 4. Overall the 58% voted to be part of Ghana. Here’s the interesting part. The northern part of the territory were tribes with part of their people in Ghana, that part voted to be part of Ghana. The southern part were mostly Ewes, which was the dominant tribe in Togo voted to be part of French Togoland. 5. After Ghana’s independence they became part of Ghana 6. The government of Ghana haven’t done much about this succession tendencies, most people in Ghana laugh them off as a joke. 1 Like |

Crime / Re: Sylvester Ofori Beating His Wife Before He Killed Her (Video) by jrtorrents: 8:25pm On Sep 11, 2020 |
Watching this and the other videos, it’s clear that the man is unhinged. You can hear the wife telling his brother not to report it. It appears to me that she was still in love with him and this wasn’t the first time he had acted in that way. It’s a very complex issue, and I doubt reporting to the police would have changed anything. Unfortunately the way the law works in America and most western countries is that even when you report it , the police cannot do anything until something has happened. They should have talked to him, deescalated the situation and find help. |

Ghana and other West African countries continue to believe redress to even actions like these can be sought, diplomatically, without resorting to media statements and related activities that have the potential to aggravate the situation further. If read the brief carefully, the Ghanaian government is trying to send Nigeria a "message". This issue can be resolved amicably behind close doors, it shouldn't be fought in the media 1 Like 1 Share |

Crime / Re: Nigerian Shot Dead By Ghana Police, As Nigerians Protest In Ghana by jrtorrents: 8:14am On Aug 30, 2020 |
ibolord: Four (4) reasons 1. Ghana must go, where over a million Ghanaians were deported, some died. Any Ghanaian who had a family who suffered that deportation or died will surely won’t forget. I know Ghana also deported Nigerians 14 years before that. 2. Unfortunately some Nigerians are very aggressive (we call them Patapaa in Ghana), loud and show off. These traits are generally frowned on Ghanaian culture. 3. The average Ghanaian thinks the average Nigerian is a fraud. Again this is also bad stereotype from the media and actions of a few Nigerians but I don’t it’s only Ghana that people hold such opinion about Nigerians. 4. Also because of Ghana- Must Go, there is still the perception that Ghanaians in Nigeria are still maltreated. There are a few incidents where Ghanaian movie actors and musicians have been maltreated in Nigeria. Again all this is perception. I think the Nigerian government really needs to do is work to improve the image of Nigerian and Nigerians abroad and let people know Nigeria is not what they’re perceived to be. They need a good media campaign to drive that message into peoples head. They also need to sit down with Ghana and other governments to see how they can resolve some of these issues diplomatically. You can’t solve this with threats and retaliation. |

Gee64: Lol do you believe what you just wrote? Nigeria has the highest amount of poverty and illiteracy in Africa. Let’s put that aside, in almost every meaningful statistics that measure the quality of life of people, Ghana performs better than Nigeria. So what makes you think the average Nigerian is better off than Ghana? In Ghana we have basic school to high school and comprehensive health insurance. In Nigeria there is only a handful of very rich people, while the vast vast majority languishes in filth and poverty. 1 Like |

When I first read this story I suspected something was wrong becaus me it’s nowhere on Ghanaian media. Then I watched the video. It’s from July, this is the same story that that was posted here on Nigerian a few months ago. There are over 3 million Nigerians living in Ghana, the vast majority of them are living comfortably there and will never return to Nigeria. It seems some fools here prefer to stoke tensions between our two countries. In Africa because of poverty there is very limited opportunities. Even in Ghana and Nigeria people from Tribe A will complain that people from Tribe B are taking over their lands and livelihood. This is exactly what is happening between Ghana and Nigeria. As countries we need to think and come with better ways to improve our economic situation so people don't have to travel far and wide to earn a living. |

legitnow: According the the FG (in the statement they realized yesterday) there are 1 million Ghanaians in Nigeria. This is from the Federal Nigerian government not me. If Nigerian government doesn’t want Ghanaians to trade in country they should bring laws and deport them. As a Ghanaian I will completely understand Nigerian government making rules to protect their citizens. |

legitnow:As it was explained then, it was private individuals that did the demolition because they felt the Nigerian HC was illegally taking their lands. The government of Ghana intervened, the culprits were punished and they extended apology to the Nigerian government for the mistake. Fifty-two American diplomats and citizens were held hostage for 444 days from November 4, 1979, to January 20, 1981, after a group of Iranian college students belonging to the Muslim Student Followers of the Imam's Line, who supported the Iranian Revolution, took over the U.S. Embassy in Tehran.
