Side hustle for those in IT. There are also vacancies in Health & Social Care, Applied Science and Criminology. It's for developing assessments for iGCSEs.

If you work in the sector, you can also mark the exams twice a year (each script is paid at £3.89) and a £50 admin fee per 20 scripts. I marked 600 scripts over 6 weeks in June - very good side change as I just mark as and when I want to - mainly in the evenings and weekends and all on my PC.

Can students do this also as side hustle in addendum to their 20hrs work schedule or just do it only

Since you spent more time working a student job than doing the studies you came for, One would have assumed that you would have at least saved enough money to handle problems like this.

My issue isn’t even the visa extension (or lack of), it’s the change from full- time to part time as an international student on tier 4 (means you no longer even qualify for the tier 4 because it’s for full time students).

Can I send a DM if you are in this field or can give some additional insight?

I await your response

Thanks
Please let the insight be on here ... bikonu...so that we can learn

For those who are not tech savvy, you could consider switching to IT audit/compliance first, then evaluate the possibility of moving to information/cyber security later.

Career in the roles mentioned above is rewarding. I will be willing to provide more information on how to switch to them here, folks can also check online for more information.
Please do tell us..as this will aid our further research

Other parts of tech that folks should consider is the security, compliance and audit of IT; these areas are also in high demand as most IT professionals do not fancy career shift to them. Furthermore, a degree in Computer Science is not required to thrive in these roles.

IT Auditors - They initiate periodic review of IT processes, Infrastructure and Security; they are usually required in the Big4, IT consulting firms and companies with large staff/customer base. A professional certification called Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA) is usually required to be considered for the job role, while additional certifications like CISSP, CEH, CISM, ISO27001 LA.....may be required for knowledge purposes.

Information/Cyber Security Specialists - They ensure adequate security of the overall IT infrastructure of organizations; there are several job roles related to this part of IT like Information Security Governance Analyst, Network Security Specialist, Application Security Specialist, Cloud Security Specialist, Ethical Hacker, Vulnerability Assessor/Penetration Tester, SOC Analyst, and so on. Professional certifications like CEH, CISSP, CISM, CCSP, OSCP will be required to be considered for these job roles.

IT Risk/Compliance Analysts - Their responsibilities are closely related to that of IT Auditors, they provide guidance to IT/Security professionals on internal and regulatory compliance areas relating to IT processes, projects and general IT Infrastructure. Part of their responsibilities also involve identifying risk exposures, documenting them and recommending controls. Professional certifications required includes ISO27001 LI, ITIL, CRISC etc.

For those who are not tech savvy, you could consider switching to IT audit/compliance first, then evaluate the possibility of moving to information/cyber security later.

Career in the roles mentioned above is rewarding. I will be willing to provide more information on how to switch to them here, folks can also check online for more information.

Hello gurus.... I know this issue has been trashed here before but I need more clarity. My DOB on my WAEC is not correct so I went to the court for an affidavit.. I met a guy telling me that I have to pay also for something called remitta.. that if I go for the affidavit only, its still not a complete process. So for those who have been in this situation before. should I pay for the affidavit and remitta or only the affidavit

I promised to give pointers about tech occupations. Of course there are the core tech occupations like infrastructure manager, network architects, technical architects, developers (either front or backend), automation testing or even some data professions (these require sql, python, r and some familiarity with tableau, power bi, etc). As for manual testing, if you have experience with software and/or UX experience, you may easily become a manual tester (pays well).

I am not a pro in the above so I will leave it to the professionals to speak of. Out of all the above tech occupations, the easiest and most pragmatic to get into would be security manager (which requires little to no code, as your infrastructure staff would do the needed to help you) but security requires vast experience in the tech industry (that’s why I pity people with no experience reading cyber security).
Anyway the good news is, there are some professions that you can crack easily, these are:

Scrum master-- if you are a manager, cheerleader and teacher, you can do a scrum master course on scrum.org, watch looooads of scrum or agile videos on YT and go on some other agile courses to become a scrum master—m but prepare to start as a junior if you have never had the role before.

Product owner-- again read up about it, make sure you do your certification on scrum.org, then whatever industry you apply to, make sure it is an industry you have worked in very well because POs always need the experience to make good decisions.

Delivery manager—if you have worked as a Project manager before, just learn about agile (again scrum.org and many agile videos, change your mindset (no more controlled environment, you philosophy must be to fail fast) and then you can convert your title to DM- they pay well.
Business analyst, these are pretty popular, just make sure you have some certs and you have experience in the industry you want to work in. You can learn about BA in BCS or IIBA- pays well.

Product manager-- my favourite, well just be experienced in the product and have good enough experience in being a BA, DM or PO. You must be familiar with agile and product development life cycle.

Take these jobs, go on indeed, look up the jobs, then try and acquired whatever skill the jobs require within the next 4 months. Tune your cv to reflect the job spec, practice well so you have speak eloquently during your interview. You can also convert your job as an accountant, finance analyst etc to the above jobs, but you have to be smart about it.

Layman advise.
With student visa you can work officially for 20hrs per wk. Unofficially you can work as long as you can.
Dont just go into any random course coz you wanna travel, there are good courses that after studying you automatically get extra 1/2 years to stay and work.
There are so many in uni in the UK but i can recommend a few.
Are you referring to PSW or you trying to say that some courses that gives you the advantage of staying for a year or 2... this is the first time I'm seeing this in my entire research life on UK thread oo

I have been in the banking industry for years, marketing precisely. Now am willing to learn and hope to switch my career to tech. Is it possible for me to learn and be grounded in the tech field.

Their futures and ours is sorted financially and otherwise.

I am agree I am not wise. Thank Bleep for that if the wiseness means wasting money building in Nigeria when I don't live there and have zero plans of ever living there.

PS - 17th year out of Nigeria and I have to say I have done very very well for myself and my siblings. All sorted, educated at my expense (2 in the UK) and happily living our best lives.

Been a while, so from my experience so far. Having previous tech experience puts you in a commanding position for interviews and co and also an opportunity to show what you can do. Recently I have had a good number of friends come in from Naija from the company I work, they have seen that Nigerian devs are really good and our tech eco system is doing really well but you have to know your stuff. I see Nigeria becoming the new India in terms of tech in no distant time so if you have good experience you will get in easily here or if you get in here with a dependant visa you can actually get that sponsorship job really fast. Blending in might take a while depending on how fast you can but the base work is the same, same coding and all but a bit more organised here and they take their time here a lot. For those that have no experience, I would advise you do lots of practise, if you have friends that are developers in Naija, link up with them, get side Gigs even if it’s for free, do it get the experience package it very well on your Cv, even if after school you do not get a sponsored job after school start with any dev job you see, get the experience and then chase the sponsorship jobs, recruiters here are very keen about having Uk experience as well because they have that feeling you have had some form of validation to an extent.
I have found out that not so many firms sponsor yeah, the ones that do not sponsor do very interesting stuffs and also use some amazing tech stack. Does not matter which language you do, there are lots of openings for different stack just know one very well and you would be fine. I’m my opinion in tech they need you more that you need them always bear that in mind and have that mind set in your interview, it worked for me !
Lastly getting the job is kinda the easy part, keeping the job is kinda more difficult cos you have to be on top of your game and also have to go the extra mile!

You nailed it bros.... I personally have no experience on tech... but years back while in school as an engineering undergraduate.. I did programming languages such as Fortran77, 90 and q basic... and I understood to it some level it back den ... even my undergraduate project was on software development pertaining to costing in engineering projects using visual basic... but many old lecturers criticised my project saying wetin concern mechanical and programming... now I'm going back to it... ive had my own personal work experience oo, none revolved around programming or tech.... well I feel this is God calling me back to tech... even the name JTECH I used here sef... wasn't thought of relating to tech years back... I wanted to used dat as a name for my company once I started one... but now... I guess d tech will be my new career path..

I believe that Tech pays higher than the average earnings so when you are climbing you be able to afford a comfortable life

However however.... I feel Tech is not easy to enter because it very heavily "relevant work experience driven ". So I am cautious about advising people into tech if they don't have relevant work experience

But.... if you want to start from the bottom / lowest level in tech and then climb up...ok as it then becomes easier if you want to go down this route and don't have experience
Thing is at least its a promising career and I feel life is all about what you are willing to sacrifice for what you want... its better to sacrifice and start from the lowest level than to remain in a menial job for a very long time, if the graduate jobs don't come... as at when due... besides in the UK tech has this visa route(global talent visa) which is for a period of 3 years and this is attainable if you meet the criteria when you can't find a sponsored job.....
So if you use your PSW years and the GTV years, you're already on your way to ILR..... and I think with GTV alone you qualify for ILR... if I'm not mistaken

Honestly feel that guy "Uzor' might be some how right, I look around here and I see the strange eyes the whites look at the blacks, an economic migrantt, infact I was looking at one elderly black man in the bus, he looks so defeated and out of place, it is very clear at old age, the reality start downing on you that you don't belong here, the expression of the people around will display it. It will be clear the segregation, but at this age u can summont it, but when u get old, it becomes a strange feeling, cos you appear in the mist of white. at different bus station, the black kids move only with the black. You will eventually feel odd at old age. Now while here, I realized why older Nigerian will prefer to return home. It is even evident in some care home I have been, I hardly see any black old man, I keep wondering where they keep them
maybe the black people no dey like care homes cost of the cost involved and you should know that the percentage of black to white is negligible... ive seen people on youtube say they are the only blacks in a particular city/area... so its not surprising not to see a black man in the care homes... or maybe they are relocating back to Africa... wink
