Pray, which country has overtaken the USA? Name one please.

I currently live in Nigeria. I work for a company based in Canada. Guess the currency I'm paid in? I'm sure you know. Not Nigeria's currency. Not Canada's currency. When I buy from China, which country do I pay in? China's? Nigeria's? No other country has that. But Trump can't see the value of that - so he's tearing it all down. I wish him Godspeed.

You are very wrong at the bolded. It rather benefited the countries of the world as USA channelled the world power status after 1945 to institutions which was used to aid countries of the world. That was why France, germany Japan, China, etc... became super economic giants. If Hitler has won the war, every country will probably be subject to him and pay him taxes. We may all be his slaves in addition. U.S may not be saints, but things will be far worse after 1945 bro
You're making a different point altogether.

Macron seems to seek a futuristic role as the leader of Europe.

I will be against trump if the balance of trade is near equal but if there is a huge deficit l, I don't think any sane country will fold her arms while her country is being taken advantage of.
The current political and economic world order, the one that has existed since 1945, has benefited the US more than any country. By far. Trump has tunnel vision.

Yes, you're right about Mr Macron. Some are already calling him "the leader of the free world".

Ask a woman - ask your wife if she thinks that delivery is not going to war, is not laying down her life.
Why do women call their churches and mosques and ask them to start praying for them as they go to deliver if the real expectation is that it should be that simple.
Only a woman will tell you the thoughts that run through her mind before delivery.
It might be low globally but do not lump it because the developed countries make the numbers look good.
In Nigeria it is a 50/50 chance. In developed countries the risk of dying in childbirth is 1:4900. In Nigeria it is 1:22.
Nigeria has the 3rd highest maternal mortality in Africa.
Ask a woman? We're having total different conversations. Like I'm on one subject and you're on another. Bad thoughts running through some women's mind before delivery is totally understandable. Same thing happens to some people when they're about to enter an aeroplane. That's because although the chances of an air crash are very low, air crashes are real and do happen.

Not sure where you're getting your stats, but Google says the percentage of births via CS is around 2.7% in Nigeria. It further says it's 5.2% in urban areas and 1.2% in rural areas. (I can tell you why it's higher in urban areas).

Whatever the true figures, what you fail to realise is that only things that happen around you tend to be real to you. I know there are all sorts of movements pushing all sorts of agendas nowadays, but that woman that was stranded in an uninhabited Island with some men, slept with one of the men and had a child. Why? Because mankind has never seen pregnancy as war anywhere. Mankind has always seen pregnancy as a normal biological process which carries some risks, risks that occasionally become a reality.

My mother had 9 children. No CS. My sisters? Not 1 CS. My sisters-in-law? None. Yet you expect me to live in mortal fear of this 50-50 figure procured from God knows where? Even if it were true, people typically reference those around them. Less educated people, more so.

I will support it fully.

A patient told me last year that she spends 81k month on infant formula alone. I cannot afford that for any ONE child right now and I am a doctor, not to talk of average family.

I saw a patient who delivered a baby 2 weeks ago and diagnosed her with heart failure today. I had to tell her that the medicines she needs to take to feel better cannot be given while breastfeeding and will dry up her breast milk supply. She also gave my boss a dirty look when she was advised to stop childbearing after this child as it is risky and may kill her.

I have seen things that made me think from wanting 4 children 8 years ago to just needing 1 or 2 today.

I have seen Nigerians take advantage of healthworkers' compassion and I've been a victim many times.

Too many men, women and children have died for cheap reasons.

I want to see what will happen to the wolves in this country when the sheep stop reproducing.

May nigeria never happen to us
And for these reasons, if you make it into the House of Reps, you'd introduce a bill to stop poor people (or anyone who can't put aside, say, 500k from having kids?) Goodluck with Utopia.

It's ok for you to use your present position to advise individual parents to have fewer kids. But a blanket stance that says have kids if you can raise 500k is utopia. It is not achievable. Even if it is achievable, it is a terrible idea - I don't even have time to explain the ramifications to you. But I'd just tell you that Lee Kwan Yew tried it in Singapore. He was encouraging rich women to have kids and poor women not too - reportedly sterilised some of the poor women while at it. Today, that country's demographic issues are so bad that once it's 8pm, they start playing jingles on radio reminding people to go home and have sex. They want kids!

A perfect society does not exist. Every society goes through its phases. What happened to that man is sad. But it was NOT preventable. The only way to prevent it would have been for him not to marry or get her pregnant. And the day that happens (poor people, 70-80% of Nigerians, stop having kids) will never arrive.

Only a foolish person will go to war without weapons.
How can one expect a pregnancy to pass without a major event. The likelihood of having a child vaginally/through CS is 50/50.
You have to plan the moment the lady becomes pregnant.
If that man had offered N300k out of N500k at least that the hospital would not have turned them away.
They could have started shopping around hospitals to know the cost for CS and taken the cheapest option.
I have kids - immediately my husband and I find out that I am pregnant we start putting funds together because anything can happen.
Which war? Less than 15% of births involve complications globally - whatever the figures are, people's reference is people around them. Someone who isn't much educated who's always seen women around him give birth without an issue will grow up expecting that. Have you been to our villages where people give birth at home without ever having taken a pill?

Yeah, shop around. But what good would that have done them if they just can't find 500k or the money to RELOCATE near a general hospital (cheapest option) - since we're judging everyone by your standards?

it is that hope and that 'God will provide' mentality that has made him a widower.

When a thread reached FPsome day's ago that people should book/save/ prepare between 2-5million to prepare for the birth of a child, a lot of ignorant comments littered that thread.
This is truly an unfortunate case of one corpse, two lives.

May they RIP and may the man have the strength to grieve his loss
Well, that's all some people have. Actually, he probably wasn't told to expect complications and then he started hoping for a miracle. He probably thought things would go well like it has always been for every woman in his family. Until he got unlucky.

I've not seen that thread but it's not realistic - some people can't find that money. But I know people on SM don't live in the real world.

Would you, ma, support a law that anyone that can't find 2.5 mil should be barred from having kids?

Did the man have compassion when he took his wife to a hospital, he knew he could not afford? All those workers whose jobs would have been impacted by his choice, what compassion did he have for them by his action? undecided
He was just a regular guy who expected his wife's pregnancy to pass without a major event - like most pregnancies. Unfortunately, his fell among the minority. It's not the hospital's fault, but a working society should have system in place that ensures emergency cases like this are taken care of at public expense.

500k is a lot to some people – they just don't have it. Most pregnancies pass without an event and he probably hoped for that. I agree it's not the hospital's fault. It's unfortunate.

A heartbreaking tragedy has sparked outrage online after a Nigerian man shared the devastating story of how he lost his pregnant wife and unborn child due to alleged medical negligence and the demand for an upfront payment before treatment. In two emotional clips making rounds on social media, the grieving husband is seen cradling his lifeless wife while recounting the harrowing experience.
According to him, they rushed to a private hospital in urgent need of care, but were turned away because they couldn’t immediately pay a ₦500,000 deposit.

Despite his pleas for the hospital to begin treatment while he sourced for funds, they allegedly refused and referred them to a general hospital far away in Epe, Lagos.Sadly, his wife passed away before they could reach the second facility.“They watched her die,” the husband said tearfully. “I begged them, but they drove us out like they didn’t care. How can life be so cheap?”The incident has triggered widespread anger on social media, with many calling for urgent reforms in the healthcare system and stronger regulations on emergency care. Nigerians are demanding accountability and justice as they question how a medical institution could allegedly prioritize money over saving lives.
Nigeria is the most compassionless, the most soulless place under God's earth. It's God that saves us every day.

West Africa is not necessarily hotter than other parts of the continent. The highest temperature you'd find in Zimbabwe in 33 degrees C, same as Abeokuta. But, yeah, the parts bordering the Sahara can get very hot. Which is something I alluded to.

But it's not only West Africa that was skipped. I mentioned Ethiopia. They didn't settle there in large numbers to farm because it'd be a waste of resources to do so in unfertile land.

That is true for most of Africa. You only have a few pockets of places that are fertile. For example, most of Southern Africa. Elsewhere, there are fertile places, but they tend to be fewer and more isolated - for example, the Benue Basin in the middle belt of Nigeria, Ibarapa in SW Nigeria, etc.

I'm not saying most of the continent is not fertile, mind you. I said "the least fertile", meaning not as fertile as most other places.
