majiouk2002: Hi everyone,
Please does anyone have experience on shipping(air/sea cargo) unaccompanied personal effects to Oz Air shipment (called Parcel Post) via NIPOST: ETA is usually stated as 10 days to Australia from Lagos (Ikeja Post Office)- however, I've had between 9- 12days actual delivery times. Cost is 10,550 for the first kg + 3,000 per additional kg(s) + 5% VAT+ Handling fee of 1,500 and Cost of packaging box (between 600-1500 depending on the box size) Maximum shipping weight is 30kg per box. |

BagiChris: Hello
Please I need the feedback from the elders.
A friend/old schoolmate is offering to inspect and rent a house for me based on the listings I provide (Homely.com.au, realestates.com.au etc) then we do a transfer of lease when I arrive. He is concerned about me spending money on airbnb when I can use that same money for bond and a month rent. He has also made attempts to get me free accommodations pending when I can rent but because of my family (Wife + 2 kids) I don't want to trouble anybody.
Are there any draw back to this idea (e.g. Rent assistance etc), apart from him running away with my money. I know him no fit run I go kill am Like you mentioned, rent assistance is one; there are instances were you'll need to show proof of address too e.g. for library registrations. There could be a fee to transfer the lease too. Probably better to just have your name on the lease from the get-go. I would suggest flatmates.com.au to get a place for arrival- it's pay on arrival and way cheaper than airbnb too. Your friend can help inspect and screen out rentals that don't meet up to 'your minimum acceptable' while you re-inspect the ones earmarked as ok, after arrival. |

July 2016 - switched to Australia after consultations. That mind-change didn't take long at all! Congratulations!! Congratulations, Omooloriredade! Azy123: Hello Fam,
I was just going through my docs and noticed that at the bottom of the marriage certificate there is a statement with a website at the bottom.
But this site does not exist. If they check it online they will not see it and may think it is fake.
Those who have successfully got there grant and have similar marriage certificate - Did you experience any problem with assessor?.
Thanks. It won't bring up any issues. |

frank043: I beg to disagree. Masters by research is FREE. I have three friends running the program there, I have been on this for over a year now. So long as you are offered admission, you won't pay any KOBO. So long as one gets a supervisor (Dr or Prof) willing to supervise. If it's masters by coursework or taught, I will agree that it ain't free to all. Are they on some kind of sponsorship? Do(es) the supervisor(s) have a grant wherein the school fees is offset? Did they get an Australian government scholarship? There are some schools that automatically consider all research degree applicants for a scholarship when applying for admission (e.g. Unimelb https://scholarships.unimelb.edu.au/awards/graduate-research-scholarships) - while some don't grant automatic consideration and you've got to apply for scholarship separately from admission application (e.g. UWA); also, research area too could determine if one gets the scholarship after automatic consideration even. Quite a handful of variables apply actually. If you can, try to clarify what scenarios apply to your friends; then the picture will be clearer. And you can share your findings here to help whoever would need it. So someone doesn't get international student admission into a research degree at UWA and just assume there will be no fees to be paid. |

frank043: Masters by research is free for EVERYONE. By everyone I mean citizens, PR, international students etc. Actually, masters by research (M.Phil) is free for only domestic students i.e. Aus or NZ citizens, permanent residents and humanitarian visa holders only. Same thing with PhD. As an international student, you will pay your fees. In full. Except you have a scholarship. |

babylove01: Please can you give info on the bolded. Thanks
Also please those in Perth can you drop useful tips on how to search for good suburbs Homely.com.au is a good place to check for suburb reviews. Perth is a renter's market though, so getting a place shouldn't be as hard as other cities on the East coast. In fact, you can try to negotiate the rent by $20 per week and still get the place- not to be tried in Sydney sha when you see say na you, and a multitude of others, come for house inspection. In WA, you can drive for 3 months with your Nigerian drivers licence, after which you take the (i) Road rules theory test and (ii) Practical Driving test. You pass, you get your licence; you fail, you pay to test again. The test is actually easy, just apply the 80/20 rule- 80% on reading and understanding the rules, watching practice videos etc while 20% here is the driving test itself. Don't come with the 'I've been driving in Lagos for 30 years' mindset; omo! you will just turn yourself to DoT's ATM- all by yourself. LandingLike most people, flight was with Emirates via Dubai. Check-in at Lagos was routine; taxmen ask, I tell them "Silver & Gold I have none but may the grace of the Lord be with you"; one lady almost rejected it- before realising say she had better receive the grace than reject it- I bet she was a 'God-fearing' woman . At Dubai, IOM representative met us at the gate, walked us to the boarding gate and that was it. Flight was a few minutes early arriving Perth. We had booked a place via flatmates.com.au, so took a taxi from the airport there. Woke up next morning, did all the Centrelink and Medicare processing. Next, I went to the bank to activate bank account; NAB has a migrant account option which can be opened from overseas- but you can't use it till you activate it (in person) after landing; though you can transfer money into it before landing. |

jayooh: Pls guys I'm awaiting responses oh
Cc: Jukeblam, iceberg, Cottyekundayo,Bnimz, You can send me your CDR for an additional review; the key thing is to match your tasks to the ANZSCO task list of your nominated occupation. I dare say that you can't be forced to accept Engineering Technologist if your CDR fully reflects as a Civil Engineer. Seems some EA assessors are getting inspiration from VETASSESS now. |

Congrats to all the grantees!!! The thread is alive and well! jayooh: Good morning E-family. I wish to know if there is a limited amount of time to submit CDR application with EA. I have submitted 2ce now and still getting response to accepting Engineering Technologist outcome, which is "you all know". I'm giving it my all, to get get what I desire. I'm just hoping to get it this time, I don jam assessor oh. Just giving different reasons for his response and generalising like a fish. If it's the episodes that are still not adequate, are you matching your activities to the expected tasks of your occupation? Using anzscosearch.com, try to make your activities match ~80% of the tasks descriptions listed. Might help. |

Amicable24: Please someone should help out here How much is assessment fee for VETASSESS, I'm a little confused from what's online: online application $880 priority processing fee $600.
Does it mean I'll be paying at total of $1480 or what? You pay for 'Priority Processing' in addition to the 'Online application' fee (which sums up to $1480) if you want your assessment completed within 10days and it's optional. However, if you want to wait the regular 10-12 weeks for your assessment outcome, you pay just $880. |

Congrats ZoeW, Congrats Lalooz! The thread had been bereft of 'jumping' news for a while! ItsYourFriend: Hi @lalooz, congratulations on your grant. I have an observation though, the initial entry date is next May, why is that? Were u the one that chose May 2018 as your entry date or they decided that for you? If they did, me think it's far, but they know better. IED is the cutoff date you must make first entry into Oz by, otherwise you forfeit the visa; not the first date you are permitted to enter. |

mamajaz: Hello friends, my schools sent some documents from Ilesha since Friday last week, but all I've been seeing on tracking is that it has departed facility in Ibadan since that Friday to get to Melbourne on 6th of this month, there's no update on it's movements other than that. Please, is it possible they didn't send it ni I'm confused. If it's NIPOST/EMS, the tracking you see often ends when the parcel leaves city of postage or Lagos. So, it's possible the parcel is on it's way and should get there within a few days of the stated date. If there's a way to confirm from the recipient, try to do that. |
