Ahead of the forthcoming 2023 governorship elections, a recent Statewide opinion poll commissioned by Anap Foundation and conducted by NOIPolls Limited was concluded in October 2022. The Poll revealed a substantially close race between Abba Kabir Yusuf of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) and Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna of the All Progressives Congress (APC),with an 18-point gap between the pair and other candidates. The results showed a significant lead for Abba Kabir Yusuf with 29% of voters proposing to vote for him if the governorship election were to be conducted today; and 21% proposing to vote for Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna of the APC who fell in second place. Mohammed Sadiq Wali of the PDP was a distant third with only 3% of voters proposing to vote for him. Abba Kabir Yusuf’s 9%-point lead at this early stage is significant, but not sufficient to separate him completely from his main challenger as the top 3 candidates scored 29%, 21% and 3%. Undecided voters and those who prefer not to reveal their preferred candidate add up to a whopping 30% and 11% respectively. The gender split of undecided voters shows that 35% of women are undecided versus 22% of male voters. Poll Question: Suppose the governorship election is being conducted today, who are you likely to vote for? Total (%) Senatorial Districts Poll Ranking Kano North Kano Central Kano South Abba Kabir Yusuf (NNPP) 29% 28% 29% 26% 1st Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna (APC) 21% 21% 18% 25% 2nd Mohammed Sadiq Wali (PDP) 3% 4% 3% 1% 3rd Sha’aban Ibrahim Sharada (ADP) 2% 2% 2% 3% 4th Others 3% 4% 6% 3% Undecided 30% 29% 29% 30% None 1% 1% 1% 1% Refused 11% 11% 12% 11% Total 100 Source: NOIPolls – End October 2022 The percentage of registered voters is as follows in each of the districts - 88% in Kano South, 92% in Kano Central, and 93% in Kano North. When asked if respondents were aware of the various candidates vying for Governorship, data gathered showed that 85% of the respondents were aware of Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna of the APC, 82% were aware of Abba Kabir Yusuf of the NNPP, 67% were aware of Mohammed Sadiq Wali of PDP and 62% were aware of Sha’aban Ibrahim Sharada of the ADP. All other candidates scored below 50% in terms of name recognition. Furthermore, the data summarizes top four reasons why voters are more inclined to vote in in the forthcoming elections, these include: - Continuity of Educational Policy (26%), Infrastructure (21%), Insecurity (16%) and Unemployment (11%) amongst others. 31% of the respondents would love to see their preferred governorship candidates participate in a televised interview and/or debate, with the interview/debates spanning across topics like their party manifestos, personality recognition and competence check amongst others. It is worthy of note that 71% of those aged 18-25, 85% of those aged 26-35, 85% of those aged 36-45, 82% of those aged 46-60 and 82% of those aged 61+ responded they would definitely vote in the coming elections. The age groups that expressed the greatest willingness to vote were those between 26-35 years and 36-45 years. The Poll shows that almost 8 in 10 registered voters are absolutely certain that they would be voting in the next governorship election. If they stay committed then we could witness a huge turnout in the March 2023 Governorship elections. While this Governorship Poll result shows some significant trends, it is key to note that the battle ahead lies with the undecided/swing voters as they would ultimately decide which candidate emerges as Governor of Kano State in the 2023 governorship elections. In summary, our October 2022 Polls are inconclusive in terms of establishing a clear winner as the undecided voters are enough to turn the tables. However, Anap Foundation has concluded that the trends are clear enough to establish the front runners and so our subsequent polls will concentrate on the 2 leading candidates only. https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=https://www.anapfoundation.com/press-releases/kano-abba-kabir-yusuf-of-nnpp-has-an-early-lead-in-a-2-horse-race&ved=2ahUKEwiyk5DhtJ78AhXF9bsIHRbkCx8QFnoECA4QAQ&usg=AOvVaw0NJkaznWZrquTQRmxGD4Xl

Obi to Arthur Eze: You are a respected father December 28, 2022 The Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party, Mr. Peter Obi, has described Chief Arthur Eze as a respected Nigerian who is entitled to his own opinions and beliefs. Obi said this on Wednesday while reacting to the statement of Chief Arthur Eze urging him to step down from the presidential contest. Speaking to journalist at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos, Obi described Chief Arthur Eze as a respected father not just in Igboland but in Nigeria. Obi further said that like every other person, that Arthur Eze has the rights to his own opinion, beliefs and freedom of speech, which should be respected. Once again, appealing to his teeming supporters, Obi advised them not to allow what some consider as adverse comments to dampen their spirit or force them to lose focus on the goal. “Such speeches should always be taken positively, as reminding us that we still have several hurdles to cross and to remain focused at all times, without being dragged back”, Obi said. Obi further reiterated his preparedness to remain with many suffering Nigerians, who see in the 2023 election, the hope for Nigeria to overcome the sufferings of the past and start a new chapter in her development. On who he referred to as “suffering Nigerians”, Obi said that everybody is suffering in the Nigeria of today, but that some are more directly affected, such as “the millions of people who do not know where the next meal will come from; thousands of Nigerian students who no longer go to school on account of hardship; those who cannot get adequate health care due to the collapse of that sector, over 100 million Nigerians that live in poverty.” Obi said he had decided to devote the rest of his life towards contributing to solving the myriad of Nigeria’s problems and call on Nigerians of goodwill to join the cause for the emancipation of the country. https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=https://www.vanguardngr.com/2022/12/obi-to-arthur-eze-you-are-a-respected--

Osuntokun Abandons Personal Ambition For National Gains – Obi’s Campaign Council •withdrawal can only be in writing 90 days before the election - Electoral Act 2022 •Arabambi serving External interest against LP - Onifade Dec 28, 2022 Another crisis may have begun brewing in the Labour Party (LP), over the appointment of its new Labour Party Presidential Campaign Council (LPPCC) Director General, Akin Osuntokun, who has been identified as a senatorial candidate of the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP). In a statement issued by the suspended national publicity secretary, Comrade Abayomi Arabambi, the newly appointed DG for the LPPCC, Akin Osuntokun, does not qualify to lead the LP presidential campaign council over conflict of interest. Arambabi said Mr. Osuntokun cannot head the Labour Party PCC because he is running as the Ekiti central Senatorial candidate in the same election cycle for another political party the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) In a reaction from the office of the Head Media Obi-Datti Presidential Campaign Council, Mr. Diran Onifade, Akin Osuntokun replaced the former DG of the Campaign Council Dr. Doyin Okupe, after his conviction for money laundering, for which he elected to comply with the option of fine and paid the sum of N13m to escape being jailed for two years. According to Diran, Osuntokun’s appointment was an elevation from his former office within the campaign structure. He maintained that Akin Osuntokun’s ambition for the senatorial district has been shelved for the national good. Diran explained that “Before what is an elevation in the Campaign structure, Osuntokun was the South West Coordinator of the campaign in which position he has been functioning. Truth is that Osuntokun once expressed interest in running for the Senate but the such decision was invariably abandoned in preference for the national movement for a formidable third force to rescue Nigeria, for which Peter Obi is the symbol of an unprecedented national coalition. Osuntokun has thus not taken any step in the actualization of any Senatorial ambition and will not be deterred in the national assignment of rescuing Nigeria through the OBIDATTI Movement. The new position of the Director General is the continuation at the national level of the same objective at the South West zone.” The Media office’s explanation fell short of stating Osuntokun complied with Section 31 of the Electoral Act 2022 as amended, on “Withdrawal of candidate” said, “A candidate may withdraw his or her candidature by notice in writing signed by him and delivered personally by the candidate to the political party that nominated him for the election and the political party shall convey such withdrawal to the Commission not later than 90.” There are less than 60 days until February 25th for the presidential election in 2023. The Obi-Datti office warned the former publicity secretary of the Labour party, Comrade Arabambi Abayomi, to stop parading himself as the national publicity secretary of the party as he remains suspended. “Abayomi Arabambi is no longer the National Publicity Secretary of the Labour Party. He is a saboteur serving the interests of a generous paymaster outside the party. We urge that he be treated as such going forward,” Head of Media Obi-Datti Campaign Council, Diran Onifade stayed https://tribuneonlineng.com/osuntokun-abandons-personal-ambition-for-national-gains-obis-campaign-council/ Mynd44 Nlfpmod

Labour Party (LP) governorship candidate in Abia State, Dr. Alex Otti has urged the residents to vote the party’s presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi for President and himself for governor and other candidates in the forthcoming 2023 general elections. He said that the votes of the people will enable him to reclaim and return Abia to the path of peace, growth and development. According to him, the State has experienced several years of rudderless leadership which he said had severely affected the welfare and wellbeing of millions, especially the unemployed youths and senior citizens whose salaries and pensions have not been paid. Otti made the appeal in a Christmas message he personally signed and made available to Vanguard in Abuja through his media aide, Ferdinand Ekeoma. The governorship hopeful also encouraged the people to go and collect their Permanent Voters Card (PVC), stressing that the technological innovation of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) in the electoral process has given hope for credibility. He said “This Christmas precedes the crucial election year of 2023, when you and I shall have the great opportunity we have been yearning for to reclaim our dear state of Abia and return it to the path of peace, growth and development, after several years of rudderless leadership that has severely affected the welfare and wellbeing of millions of Abians, especially our unemployed youths and senior citizens who have been consistently denied their salaries and pensions. “Between 2015 when the mandate you passionately and unanimously gave to us was brazenly snatched away by the oppressors, and today, I have neither slowed down nor withdrawn from asking critical questions and taking practical measures geared towards ensuring that those who have seized our Commonwealth in Abia are not allowed to continually enjoy underserved affluence while insulting our sensibilities. “May I humbly remind you that the elections have been slated to take place between February and March 2023 in Abia, and you would have the noble duty to pick up your PVCs, and also encourage your family and loved ones to pick theirs and vote out those who have made themselves slavemasters over you. By voting for our incoming President, Mr. Peter Obi, my humble self, and other Labour Party candidates across the 17 Local Governments of Abia state. “On my side, as your son, brother, friend and servant-leader seeking to render selfless and people-oriented service to our state and her people, I am prepared more than ever to align with other like minds to ensure that those holding our state down do not have any single opportunity to steal your vote in 2023 moreso, given the change in the electoral laws and process. I therefore charge you not be discouraged, rather be spurred and inspired by the new INEC innovation called BVAS which has provided a better platform for the protection of your votes. “Remember, no freedom has ever been achieved easily anywhere, hence the need for us to increase our resolve and redouble our efforts aimed at reclaiming and rebuilding our state for the good of all. “As we travel to our various destinations to celebrate, as well as meet with families, friends and loved ones, I pray that God grants us journey mercies “May He also help us to celebrate peacefully, and enable us to remember that, Christ is the reason for the season. Merry Christmas to you all, and Happy New Year in advance.” Vanguard News www.vanguardngr.com Vote Peter Obi for President, myself as Governor - Alex Otti urges Abia ...

Tension in PDP as G5 governors head to UK to decide on preferred presidential candidate. The Nation reports that a source said the governors who had synchronised themselves as the Integrity Group are now tinkering with the idea of either throwing their weight behind the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu, or the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi. It was gathered that at a private meeting of three of the aggrieved governors with former President Olusegun Obasanjo, he asked the G-5 to support Obi because no Igbo candidate had been elected president.
