Illegal land occupants also known as land grabbers will henceforth face 21 years jail term.
This was the law yesterday passed by the Lagos State House of Assembly prohibiting forceful entry and illegal occupation of landed properties in the state.
According to the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, after the Bill had gone through the Third Reading and finally passed by a voice vote of all members present at plenary session, told the acting Clerk of the House, Mr. Azeez Sanni, to forward a clean copy of the bill to the state Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode, for his assent.
According to the provisions of the bill, land grabbers can now face a maximum and minimum of 21 and five year imprisonment respectively if convicted. There are also various fine impositions for individuals or groups convicted of the offence.
The bill provides for prohibition of forceful land take over, entry by force, illegal occupation of property, use of land agents, illegal use of Law enforcement agents, encroaching with a weapon, sales of property without authority and professional misconduct among others with their attendant punishments as regards the particular offence.
The law was read a third time on plenary through a motion moved by the Majority Leader of the House, Sanai Agunbiade. The passage of this bill into law in Lagos State is a huge step towards a lasting solution to the activities of the land grabbers, popularly known as Omo Oniles or Ajagungbales which have become an age long menace in the state.
The law prohibits the incessant forceful entry and illegal occupation of landed properties, violent and fraudulent conducts in relation to landed properties in Lagos State and for connected purposes.
The Speaker of the House, Mudashiru Obasa, urged Governor Ambode to sign the bill into law for enforcement.

One person died Sunday evening when an 18-seater-bus being chased by the officials of the National Union of Road Transport Workers crashed along Iwo road - Toll Gate expressway. The NURTW officials allegedly chased the commercial bus for picking passengers at unauthorized place.



Two passengers who were among those that survived the crash said the transport union members, riding in a vehicle with NURTW written on its body, smashed the windscreen of the bus and threw a tyre in its way, making the driver to lose control and the vehicle summersaulted, as it went up in flames.

The passengers were lucky to escape with the help of people around the scene. Unfortunatley, the driver, who was trapped under bus was however burnt beyond recognition.

His remains were evacuated by officials of the Toll Gate Unit of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Oyo State Sector.

I'm a masters student of UNIBEN, prof just threw this question at us and since we are starting exams on Wednesday here, it's only logical to suspect it's an exam question. Though I've done some works on it already but I feel I might get some more brilliant elucidations from gurus here, it's not like a question we can just get answers for from any of the numerous voluminous books of the course, it demands application of knowledge. The question is:

A former chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Board of Trustees (BoT), Chief Tony Anenih, has called on the people of his Edo Central senatorial district (Esan) to vote for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in the state, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu.

The national leader of the PDP vowed that Esan people would resist their continued domination by Governor Adams Oshiomhole in the September 10 governorship election in the state.

Anenih, who spoke at the kick-off of Edo Central zonal gubernatorial campaign, held at Okpujie Primary School, Uromi, Esan North East Local Government Area, recalled how Governor Oshiomhole at the start of his administration more than seven years ago refused to pay the counterpart funding of N300 million needed to complete the Ugbalo Waterworks after he had made the Federal Government commit the sum of N1.2 billion to the project.

He said “Oshiomhole, up till today, has refused to provide the money. That is why the water scheme has not been completed. He does not want us (Esans) to have water. Esan race is being extinguished by Oshiomhole but we will not allow it; we will resist it.”

He said his presence at the PDP zonal campaign was an indication of the path Esan people were prepared to follow in the September 10 election.

I respect this man. He has a forgiving spirit. Ize Iyamu & co formed the grace group & their motor was "no man is God". They were referring to Anenih. They formed this group & used their platform to bring Oshiomhole to power. Oshiomhole was popular but he didn't have a platform. With their support, they stopped pdp. It was a blow to Anenih. Today, troops of 101 Battalion, 7 Division Garrison on foot patrol along with some elements of Civilian JTF, intercepted a suspected male suicide bomber at Sabon Gari Jidari. The suspect carrying primed Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) concealed in a blue stabilizer casing gave his name as Yusuf Tasiu. He was dispossessed of the explosives while the Nigeria Police Explosive Ordnance Devices expert safely detonated it. I do not agree with the Oba. If Oshiomhole could succeed in opposition in pdp federal government, I guaranty you that a governor produced by another party can also succeed. Even if an oba has interest in a candidate, he should not do so openly. Now that he has shown that he is partisan, does it make sense for other aspirants to go to him for blessing? 1. CURRICULUM: University education in Nigeria, like in other developing countries, is to produce graduates grounded in generic skill and, quality education for the nation's economic development. University curriculum therefore, reflect research about what works, as opposed to what is popular today or tomorrow. This
implies that the curriculum content enable students to attain the
society's expectations, and perhaps most importantly, their needs.


2. STRUCTURES: Most Nigerian Universities have outstanding structures and academic environment more than that of Polytechnic. Most of Polytechnics structures are not up to standard, even most of the buildings in some polytechnics are of old structures.


3. COURSES: Universities run more courses than Polytechnics. Most top professional courses are studied at university level e.g Medicine, Law, Architecture, etc. Though we have Legal studies in replacement of law, SLT in replacement of medicine in Polytechnics, and Architect. But are not well recognise.


4. MODE OF DRESSING: Corporate dressing can be seen in most Nigerian Universities, especially the so called private Universities. Also most of courses run by university has there code of dressing e.g Medicine, Engineering, and Law.


5. ACADEMIC PERFORMERS: Most outstanding students can be seen at Universities, compared to Polytechnics. Most of the Universities are more strict. You hardly bribe lecturers cause many are Professors so, is what u write that you get in most cases. Unlike polytechnics where you easy bribe lecturers to have distinction or upper credit.


6. ACADEMIC STAFFS: Least you can see in Universities as a lecturer is a Doctor (Ph .D). A masters holding can only be of an assistant. Most Seniors lecturers are Professors. While the highest you can get in a polytechnics is a Doctor ( Rector), others are MSc, B. sc or HND holder

I am a product of both the polytechnic & university. It is not about the polytechic or university, but about the degree & the HND. Those who designed both for what ever reason made the HND to be slightly inferior to the degree in terms of entry qualifications & curricular. That's why you find a B.Sc holder teaching an HHD 2 student & even rising to become a chief lecturer in the polytechnic but you can't find an HND holder teaching a final year B.Sc student, except in practical courses or when the HND holder has additional professional qualifications. Deep down, an HND 2 student prefers being lectured by a B.Sc holder than an HND holder. Whichever way you look at it, a degree is a degree & diploma is a diploma. The Nigerian educational system is designed after that of the UK. In the UK, polytechnics award all the degrees awarded by the universities but because the degree program is different from the HND, they run B.Sc programs side by side with the HND programs. In this case when an HND holder wants to upgrade to a degree holder, they just do additional 9 months program. In conclusion, irrespective of the level you are in right now, you can always be what you want to be. If you want to be a professor tomorrow, the coast is clear, take the bull by the horn & move on.

Some of you politicise everything. Even when things go bad you still have something to say as excuse. When Buhari was sworn in & power supply suddenly improved, you people gave him credit for this & went on to say it was his body language. When things also don't work out irrespective of the reasons as you are trying to explain, the government of the day has to take responsibility & profer solutions. The order of the day now is that when things work out, the government takes the praise but when things don't work they either blame the previous government or some other factors. If those appointed into positions do not have the relevant capacity to turn things around remove them & bring in the competent hands irrespective of the godfathers whose interest they are representing. Nigeria's interest should be bigger than their personal interest. There has to be a way out of this situation & the government alone may not have all the ideas to turn things around. Let them reach out if need be so that their case will not be like that of the sick doctor who was ashamed to consult his colleague and died in the process. I however commend this government for not encouraging retrenc
