Culture › Re: Oba Ewuare II Suspends Community Development Associations In Benin Kingdom by july66: 9:16am On Oct 26, 2016 |
eseosa77: The Benin monarch, Oba Ewuare II has ordered the immediate suspension of Community Development Associations (CDAs) in all the seven local government areas of Edo State which constitute the Benin Kingdom.
All land matters would henceforth be adjudicated by the Oba or through the Enogie or Edionwere and no longer through Community Development Associations.
The seven local government areas of the Benin Kingdom are Oredo (capital), Egor, Ikpoba Okha, Uhunmwode, Orhionmwon, Ovia South West and Ovia North East local government areas.
The Oba, who is the paramount ruler over the Edo South District of Edo state, has traditional right over all native lands in the kingdom, especially lands that falls outside the rights of the governor under the Land Use Act.
For many decades the Oba was in charge of adjudicating on land disputes throughout the district. But in recent times, especially since the advent of democracy in 1999, there had been a proliferation of so-called community development associations led by mostly thugs instead of community elders or true members of the community.
These so-called community development associations are not known to grade roads, control erosion or provide security for the community but they collect dues in hundreds of thousands of naira and oftentimes trouble land developers preventing them from developing lands through violence and intimidation.
Many of the CDAs are notorious for selling lands to more than one persons thereby creating lots of land ownership crisis in the state. Also they levy developers of lands all sorts of illegal and unaccounable levies which makes development of property in Benin frustrating and unattractive.
The pronouncement Sunday by the Benin monarch has elicited jubilation throughout Edo with many residents of Benin City hailing the decision as one of the best pronouncements since his ascension to the ancient throne.
Barr Abraham Oviawe, a civil rights activist and resident of Benin City hailed the decision at Agenda Setting forum saying “Great. Peace will reign in communities now”
Mr Austen Ehiguese said “The great Oba has just started well, God will bless him for us”
However many community development associations leaders, many of whom are leaders of a certain political party in Edo State, have started to murmur in hushed tones but in Benin the Oba’s word is law to a very large extent.
http://www.urhokpotareporters.com/2016/10/23/oba-ewuare-ii-suspends-community-development-associations-in-benin-kingdom/ Our leaders are beginning to live up to their responsibilities. It started with omo onile law in Lagos & now this? The idiots collected 100k from a colleague who built in Benin for foundation laying. Immediately he started, another fool came & said they did not bring his share. He started seizing shovels, head pan etc. He collected another 30k. When it was time for roofing, they came again & demanded for another 100k. We begged for 80k.(30k for roofing, 30k for elders & 20k for road repair. Immediately this money was agreed & paid, the hench men came & demanded for the money. We told them we had paid. We told them we paid 80k. They said the true figure is supposed to be 250k. Before you know it they seized all the working materials. Make una dey come again. God punish them but make he bless the new oba. May he reign long. |

omanifrank: As we gear towards the December period, many crimes will sure be noted from youths and other sections of human race in other for them to be balance Financially.
This young man pictured was reportedly caught after he used a gun to snatch a jeep in Benin city (Edo State) which he succeed.
He was said to have driven the stolen car to Sapele (Delta State) to relax with some of his friends not knowing that the jeep which he had stolen has a tracker install already inside.
How He Was Caught
After he was tracked to Sapele, also with the help of some mobile Policemen, he was later caught while on the duty of him to go carry his alleged girlfriend for a ride.
The owner of the Jeep confirmed that it was the same boy who robed him with gun say.
The joy of this guy arrest was that he was the only one who committed the crime and also was the only person caught by the police.
What if they saw him with a friend in side the car, definitely, two of them would have been nabbed since a friend of thief is also a thief.
After the young man pictured was caught, he pleaded that it was just his first time of committing the act.

Marchman: Dr. Reuben Abati, Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to former President Goodluck Jonathan, was on Monday arrested by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Details of his arrest are sketchy but a source at the anti-graft agency told Nigerian Times that his arrest is ion connection with ongoing investigations into corrupt practices by the EFCC. He is currently being detained at the commission’s headquarters in Abuja.
Details later…
http://nigeriantimes.ng/news/breaking-former-presidential-spokesman-reuben-abati-arrested-by-efcc/ If you want to fight corruption, do so holistically. Do not chase shadows and leave substance. Pick Jonathan, let EFCC arrest Amaechi based on the report of the judicial commission of enquiry into his tenure in River state, then we know EFCC & the government are ready. EFCC could not try PDP stalwarts when Jonathan was president just as they are afraid to probe APC now except the once the powers that be permit. I think we are not ready if EFCC has to monitor the body language of the executive before doing their job. |

sosanova: This is Oshiomole vs Osunbor 2007 happening all over again
PDP doesn't want cancellation of the election, but PDP wants the tribunal to order a re-count of the ballot papers at INEC office and compare with the fictitious and fake results and figures that INEC announced.
The best APC can do now is to prevent the tribunal from ordering a recount of the ballot papers in the court and the results is compared with the results that INEC announced.
Even APC chieftains and supporters in across Edo state are aprehensive over the inevitable and impending tribunal order which will order INEC to bring all the ballot papers used in the election and be counted in Court and compared to the result that INEC annouced.
It will be very hard for APC and Oshiomole to defend the figures that INEC announced to the whole world as the final result from Edo election as against what APC and PDP representatives saw and inspected at INEC office in Benin City last week.
Almost a month after the election wad conducted, INEC is still yet to upload the results of what they announced to the whole world on INEC website, the results INEC announced to the whole world is very contradictory, such instances is; several parties whose names where not found on the ballot papers on the election day and the ballot papers at the INEC office but these parties were allocated votes in the results that INEC announced.
Both PDP and APC supporters Who various party representatives inspected the election materials last week after the tribunal granted both parties permission to do so are speaking are already speaking in hush tones across Benin City that the results sheets and ballots papers at INEC office benin city was contrary to what INEC annouced. My question is this: is it not possible for INEC to re-arrange/thumb print the ballot papers to tally with the alleged fake results they announced before the tribunal sitting begins? |

Politics › Re: Umana: "I Didn’t Try To Bribe Justice Okoro, He Lied" by july66: 2:12pm On Oct 19, 2016 |
DONSMITH123: The 2015 All Progressives Congress, APC, governorship candidate in Akwa Ibom State, Umana Okon Umana, on Wednesday dismissed claim by one of the arrested judges, Justice John Okoro, saying he and the Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi attempted to bribe him.
Justice Okoro, one of the judges arrested by the Department of State Services, DSS, recently, had alleged that he was being victimized over his refusal to do the bidding of the APC in the election appeal cases as it concerned Rivers, Akwa Ibom and Abia States
Reacting to Justice Okoro’s claim, Umana in a statement by his Media Adviser, Mr. Iboro Otongaran said the judge concocted the lies to save himself the embarrassment of been arrested with inexplicable huge cash in local and foreign currencies.
Umana, now the Managing Director of Nigeria’s Oil and Gas Free Zone Authority, insisted that he has never held any meeting with Justice Okoro, a judge of the Supreme Court for the purpose of compromising him to.
The full statement reads below:
“The attention of Mr Umana Okon Umana, Akwa Ibom APC governorship candidate in the 2015 election has been drawn to a letter purportedly written by Justice Inyang Okoro and addressed to the Honourable Chief Justice of Nigeria.
“In the said letter, Justice Okoro alleged without evidence that Umana visited his residence (Justice Okoro’s) and made a “request to help him win his appeal before the Supreme Court.”
“We would like to respond to Justice Okoro’s baseless allegation as follows:
“The meeting Justice Okoro is reporting is fiction. No such meeting to discuss how to bribe judges took place between him, Mr Umana Okon Umana and Dr (Pastor) Ebebe Ukpong as alleged.
“If we assume, without conceding, that such a meeting took place, for a man of Justice Okoro’s standing and knowledge of the law, he ought to have known the legal implications of such a visit, and should have reported it to appropriate authorities immediately. He did not do that, but he is only reacting after the authorities have established a case against him.
“Justice Okoro’s claim in his purported letter to the Hon. Chief Justice of Nigeria is therefore not only false, it is diversionary and an afterthought.
“Justice Okoro should address himself to the facts of the case, which is between him and the State, and leave Umana out of it.
“Contrary to Justice Okoro’s claim, Umana had no appeal before the Supreme Court arising from any court judgment on the 2015 governorship election in Akwa Ibom State. Umana had won at the Court of Appeal and therefore was not and couldn’t have been an appellant at the Supreme Court. Umana had won both at the tribunal and at the Court of Appeal. He was therefore confident of victory at the Supreme Court because of the concurrent judgments of the lower courts.
“It would be recalled that after the Supreme Court judgment, which ignored the concurrent judgments of both the tribunal and the Court of Appeal, and also totally disregarded the reports of the international observers, including those of the United States Government and the European Union which stated that the elections in Akwa Ibom and Rivers states were marred by widespread violence and irregularities, Umana had issued a statement expressing disappointment at the verdict and said he had moved on and left everything in the hands of God. Umana should therefore be left alone.”
http://dailypost.ng/2016/10/19/arrest-judges-didnt-try-bribe-justice-okoro-lied-apc-guber-candidate-umana/ All these bribery allegations show the desperation of Nigerian politicians to secure power by all means & at the end they pretend to be saints. I pity all those who come to this forum to speak for or defend politicians. If you know the workings of goverment in Nigeria I am sure you all take it easy especially those who come to rain insults here. |

Governor Fayose denied any knowledge of such accusation and berated the EFCC of trying to blackmail him. He claimed not to be worried about such allegations as his election was well funded, as he believed also the return of Obanikoro from the United State was stage managed by some people.

Jayceo: One of the Supreme Court Justices arrested by operatives of the Department of State Services Justice John Inyang Okoro, has accused Minister of Transport Rotimi Amachi of having attempted to bribe him over three election petitions matters that were resolved earlier this year.
In a letter addressed to the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Okoro narrated his ordeal in the hands of DSS on the night of Friday October 7th and early morning of Saturday October 8th.
He said Rotimi Amaechi came to his house to inform him that both President Mohammadu Buhari and the All Progressives Congress asked to tell him that they must win their cases in three states of Rivers, Akwa Ibom and Abia states.
The judge said Amaechi told him that he sponsored Umana Umana, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress in the Akwa Ibom state governorship election. He alleged that Amaechi promised him a monthly pay from Umana once the candidate is declared the winner of the election by the Supreme Court.
The part of the letter where the Supreme Court judge made these allegations appeared like a mere reminder to the CJN. Justice Inyang deployed lines like “My Lord will recall the verbal report I made to you on…”.
Neither the APC nor Rotimi Amaechi has responded to the major allegation.

If the president appoints an IGP of police, the IGP doesn't have to be a party man. A public servant who rises on the job to become a chief executive switches allegiance to any party that comes to power. This write up which suggests that when a new president comes to power, all those career men appointed by his predecessor must be sent packing is completely out of order. If for instance the Postmaster-General of country goes on retirement and the president appoints his deputy to succeed him, that is a carrier appointment and not a political appointment & so I do not expect the next president to just come & remove just because he was appointed by his predecessor.
