The appointment of a Northerner as the GOC of the newly formed 8th Division should not cause a ruckus. What I find intresting is that Borno State alone now has two Divisions of the Nigerian Army. 7th Div at Maiduguri and 8th Div at Lake Chad. This is expectedly so because of the current counter insurgency operation going on in that theatre. What this also means is that Borno is now the first state in Nigeria that has a combined Military units with the strength of an Army Corps

one div with more brigades would have bn ok instead of 2 div.

A bullion van driver has confessed to conveying the N1.219bn, which the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission alleged was delivered to the Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Ayodele Fayose, in the build-up to the June 2014 governorship election in the state, which Fayose won.

Fayose is being investigated by the EFCC for allegedly receiving the N1.219bn through the Office of the National Security Adviser for his campaign in 2014, an amount said to be part of the N4.7bn allegedly diverted from the ONSA under Col. Sambo Dasuki (retd.).

EFCC investigations had revealed that the N4.7bn was paid into a bank account of Sylvan McNamara, a company in which the sons of a former Minister of State for Defence, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro, are said to be directors.

About N1.219bn was allegedly flown to Akure on a private plane during the build-up to the Ekiti State governorship election.

Fayose was alleged to have received the N1.219bn through his bosom friend, Abiodun Agbele.

The bullion van driver, Mr. Olaoluwa Omotoso, reportedly drove the bullion van to the Akure airport tarmac on June 17, 2014, to transport the N1.219bn allegedly flown from Lagos by Obanikoro.

Omotoso told EFCC detectives that he made two separate trips to the airport because of the large volume of cash.

The driver told the anti-graft agency that part of the money was taken to a bank in Alagbaka, Akure, on the instruction of Fayose’s friend, Agbele, while the remaining money was taken to Spotless Hotel, Ado Ekiti, which is owned by Fayose and his wife, Feyisetan.

A detective in the commission, who spoke to our correspondent on Thursday, said, “Omotoso explained that on June 17, 2014, he was given a directive to go to the Akure airport to convey some funds. He said he went to the airport twice to move the money. He said some of the money was taken to a bank while he, along with Agbele, moved the remaining cash to Spotless Hotel, Ado Ekiti.

“He said the money was moved in three vehicles, including one bullion van and two Toyota Hilux vans. The two Toyota Hilux vans had some soldiers inside for security while Agbele was with him in the Hilux van.

“He said he did not know exactly how much was conveyed. He explained that Agbele held the keys to the vault in the bullion van. On getting to Spotless Hotel at night, they offloaded the cash and Agbele entered the vehicle to search and ensure that no money was left behind. Agbele then returned the keys and Omotoso drove off.”

Meanwhile, the Managing Director of Zenith Bank, Mr. Peter Amangbo, has denied that the bank sponsored the governorship campaign of Fayose in 2014, contrary to the governor’s claim.

Amangbo told the EFCC that the bank had only one branch in Ekiti State, wondering why the bank would invest in Fayose when the state government had no account with the bank.

Fayose had claimed that his campaign was funded by the bank and a few private individuals.

The bank MD said at no time did he hold a meeting with Fayose and his friend, Agbele.

A source at the EFCC stated that Amangbo said at no time did he meet with Abiodun Agbele or any representative of Fayose. He said the allegation that the bank funded the Ekiti State governorship election was false.

“He further stated that at no time did Fayose and the chairman of the bank, Mr. Jim Ovia, and himself hold a meeting.

“He said the bank, as a matter of policy, did not sponsor political groups or elections.”

There are many parties in the APC & they know where they are coming from. The alliance is like a mixture (e g mixture of sand & water) rather than a solution (e.g cocacola, no sediments). When the chips are down, the similar particles in the mixture will stand together. It happened in the 2nd republic when an alliance was formed between NPN & NPP. Ozekhome insisted that there are documentary evidences to support the governor’s claim that Mrs Buhari was indeed mentioned in the scandal.
In the letter dated July 8, 2016, Ozekhome affirmed that the statement made regarding the involvement of Mrs Aisha Buhari in the Halliburton scandal was “correct and justified in law, having regards to a court judgment convicting one Mr William Jefferson for bribery in the Halliburton case.” Counsel to the president’s wife, Mary Ekpere & Co had written to Governor Fayose on June 22, 2016, demanding a retraction of the governor’s statement that the President’s wife was involved in the Halliburton scandal, threatening legal action if the retraction was not made within five days.
[b]However, Ozekhome said the statement of Governor Fayose was correct and justified, having been factually premised on an existing court judgment. The letter read; “Our client has referred to us your letter dated June 22, 2016, on alleged defamation of the character of your client , Her Excellency, Mrs Aisha Buhari, the wife of Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, with firm instructions to reply to and reject same in its entirety.

“Our client states and reaffirms categorically that the statement he made as regards the involvement of Mrs Aisha Buhari, the wife of President Buhari, in the Halliburton scandal, is correct and justified in law; having regards to a court judgement convicting one Mr William Jefferson for bribery in the Halliburton case. “Therein, the name of the President’s wife featured conspicuously. At page 22 of the said judgment delivered by the United State District Court, Eastern District of Virginia, Alexandria Division, USA, in criminal No 1: 07CR209,

the said Mr William Jefferson was sentenced at 9.00 am on November 13, 2009, by Mark D, Lytle. Your client, Mrs Aisha Buhari was specifically mentioned in the judgment. The judge referred to Exhibits 36-87 in the following words, for clarification; “See also Government Exhibits 36-87 (6/26/02 $170,000 wire transfer from account in Nigeria in the name of Aisha Buhari to an account in the name of The ANJ Group, LLC, identifying “William Jefferson” as Beneficiary)… Given the age of the defendant, the severity of the sentence calculated by the Probation Office, the defendant’s frequent travel overseas and unexplained wire transfers from overseas locations to financial accounts used by the defendant, the defendant cannot rebut the presumption at sentencing that he is a risk of flight.[/b]

“The said Williams Jefferson is currently serving a jail term in the USA and to the best of our client’s knowledge; this judgment has not been challenged, or set aside by any Appellate court of law anywhere in the world.

“The statement of His Excellency, our client, is therefore correct and justified, same having been factually premised on an existing court judgment above referred to.” On the immunity enjoyed by Governor Fayose against civil and criminal proceedings, the Senior Advocate of Nigeria said; “Your attention is also hereby drawn to Section 308 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999, as altered, on the immunity enjoyed by our client from civil or criminal proceedings for the period that he occupies the office of the governor of Ekiti State. “You may therefore advise your client to wait until after 16th October, 2018, when our client’s tenure expires. When that happens, we shall join issues with your client in a competent court of law, in the event that your client does not have a change of heart.’’

As the deadline for submission of candidates for the Edo State governorship election ends today, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) yesterday disclosed that it was yet to be provided with the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

INEC’s deputy director, Voter Education and Publicity, Nick Dazang, who disclosed this to LEADERSHIP, added that the commission was yet to take a decision on which of the candidates from the factions it would accept.

He further stated that, so far, only six political parties had submitted names of their candidates for the election.

However, deputy national chairman of the Ali Modu Sheriff faction of the party, Cairo Ojuogboh, told LEADERSHIP that the faction had submitted the name of Matthew Iduoriyekemwen to INEC, adding that the ruling of a Federal High Court in Abuja gave them the authority to do so.

Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu and Iduoriyekemwen had emerged candidates from separate primaries conducted by the warring camps in the party. While Ize-Iyamu emerged the candidate from the primaries held by the Senator Ahmed Makarfi-led national caretaker committee, Iduoriyekemwen emerged candidate of the Sheriff-led leadership of the party.

Also, while a July 4 Federal High Court judgement in Port Harcourt recognised Makarfi’s committee as the legitimate leadership of the party, a Federal High Court in Abuja, however, granted an ex parte motion to Sheriff, which mandated INEC to recognise only candidates submitted by Sheriff for the Edo and Ondo guber elections.

But responding to an inquiry from LEADERSHIP ahead of the deadline, Mr. Dazang, who was in Lagos yesterday, said the commission was yet to take a decision on which of the candidates to recognise.

He said: “As at 4:52pm, I sent an inquiry to our director in charge of political party monitoring and I was told that only six political parties have submitted their candidates, and PDP is not among them. But the deadline is tomorrow and they are free to do so.”

When asked which of the camps’ candidates the commission would accept, he said, “As at this time, INEC has not taken a decision. If there is any development I will call you back.”

On whether the name of the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Godwin Obaseki, had been submitted, the deputy director said he could not confirm as he was yet to get the names of the six political parties that had submitted candidates.

He, however, promised to make the list available immediately it is given to him.

LEADERSHIP recalls that Sheriff’s primary did not meet the 21-day notice to INEC, a requirement specified in the Electoral Act, unlike the Makarfi-organised primary which was monitored by INEC.

Reacting, however, Ojuogboh told LEADERSHIP that the faction had completed the processes for the submission of its candidate’s name. He said it was understandable that the deputy director was not aware because the submission of candidates was not done in his department.

“In any case we have no fear that our candidate will be accepted as the legitimate candidate of PDP for the election. The court ruled that Sheriff is the only person that can submit candidates for the Edo and Ondo guber elections.

“That judgement was specific and no court of competent jurisdiction can overrule it. The court has recognised Sheriff as the national chairman; the truth is the truth and nobody can change it,” he said.

It was, however, gathered that members of the PDP national caretaker committee were locked in a meeting yesterday over the issue.

Attempts to get the Makarfi group for reaction were futile as phone calls to the spokesman of the committee, Prince Dayo Adeyeye, rang out and were not returned.

You are right, we even see flood in the US through CNN but please don't blame Ize Iyamu for Igbinedion's shortcomings. When a chief executive of an establishment has an agenda, there is little or nothing his assistant can do if he refuses to take his advise. Lucky Igbinedion's government ddnt do well because of who Lucky Igbinedion is. Oshiomhole's government tried because of who Oshiomhole is. Buhari's government is fighting corruption because of who Buhari is. Afterall, Buhari served as PTF chairman under corrupt Abacha & is today fighting curruption. Therefore, if Igbinedion's government failed, hold Igbinedion & not Ize Iyamu. Every man brings out his talent when he is in charge. This also shows that the fact that Oshiomhole tried does not also mean that Obaseki will rule well. Scan each candidate on their individual ability & integrity. Issue of PDP & APC is no longer the issue because APC members like Ize iyamu have crossed to PDP & PDP members like Prof Osunbor have crossed to APC. They haved mixed. So when APC accuses PDP of corruption, they are talking to themselves too & when PDP accuses APC of being a propaganda party, they are equally talking to themselves. QED.
