It is not a dogma, it is a legitimate question. Bamidele Bukola could be a Muslim, but the I wouldn't know until I ask him or see him practise Islam. However, if I see Idris Bamidele Bukola, I know at the very least, he has a Muslim background.
havent you seen ahmad jimoh thats a christian?since your preference is first name. my colleague bears arabic names, but i was shocked to know he is not a muslim.

maclatunji:
When someone starts answering questions solely with questions, I know it is time to let them remain where they are, they simply have little or no intention to change.
whats your question again?

maclatunji:
I wonder if any self respecting Muslim will bear the name "Esubiyi" which is very Yoruba name. Would name your child with that name going by your argument that "the name you bear is insignificant." #Kai See #Argument.

This is a very interesting thread. grin

clearly the name i used as reference is not praising devil.i understand it is makrooh to bear names that have undesirable meanings.it doesnt mean there are no name that have desirable meaning in yoruba.
#put on your thinking cap.
i prefer people know my deen by my actions and deeds than names.

Islam for Muslims / Re: Muslim Countries Lead In Online Indecency Searches according to google by justaqad(m): 10:59am On Feb 04, 2013
babyosisi: So here's the irony: Google ranks Pakistan No. 1 in the world in searches for pornographic terms, outranking every other country in the world in searches per person for certain sex-related content.
Pakistan is top dog in searches per-person for "horse sex" since 2004, "donkey sex" since 2007, "rape pictures" between 2004 and 2009, "rape sex" since 2004, "child sex" between 2004 and 2007 and since 2009, "animal sex" since 2004 and "dog sex" since 2005, according to Google Trends and Google Insights, features of Google that generate data based on popular search terms.
The country also is tops -- or has been No. 1 -- in searches for "sex," "camel sex," "rape video," "child sex video" and some other searches that can't be printed here.
Google Trends generates data of popular search terms in geographic locations during specific time frames. Google Insights is a more advanced version that allows users to filter a search to geographic locations, time frames and the nature of a search, including web, images, products and news.
Pakistan ranked No. 1 in all the searches listed above on Google Trends, but on only some of them in Google Insights.
“We do our best to provide accurate data and to provide insights into broad search patterns, but the results for a given query may contain inaccuracies due to data sampling issues, approximations, or incomplete data for the terms entered,” Google said in a statement, when asked about the accuracy of its reports.
The Embassy of Islamic Republic of Pakistan did not reply to a request for an interview.

I don't live in el rufia brains to know how his thought pattern works, I see hypocrisy in all this chants, as why haven't christians condemn the christian who originally tweeted the comment? Secondly even if el rufia did retweeted it had it been about prophet Muhammad pbuh, it would have gone unnoticed just as a lot of insulting and blasphemous comments go unnoticed on NL, despite the 1 million users! which is totally uncalled for.

maclatunji:

I am not saying they don't or won't (actions and deeds) but it is also an undeniable fact that Arabic is the formal language used in Islam. This does not make all Muslims Arabs neither does it make all Arabs Muslims. It is possible to be Hassan al-Arabiyy and not be Muslim. However, it would be odd to be Cassius Clay as a Muslim without having any Muslim name in the mix. The question anybody would ask (even Non-Muslims) is: Are you not proud to be a Muslim?
@bolded thats the dogma that should be erased. why would it be odd to an arab that Hassan Al-Arabiyy is a non-muslim?would it be odd to you that bamidele bukola is a muslim?(considering the fact that you are yoruba)

maclatunji:

This is funny. We have what we call 99 Names of Allah. Truthfully, as a Muslim, do these names have any value to you? If they do, how do they compare to Olohun or Eledumare in Yoruba?
whats the difference?whats your point?

maclatunji:
I could reverse the argument of this your very shallow submission and say:

Without a Muslim name or "Arab Name" as you choose to call it, You have officually "stopped being" Muslim.

I would like to see you prove that your submission is correct and mine that follows the same logic is incorrect.

the name you bear is insignificant. this is what makes you a muslim

God bears witness that there is no other god besides Him, and so do the angels and those who possess knowledge."(Verse 3:18)

maclatunji:

I am getting your position now but you are getting it wrong by stating that using Muslim first names is losing your identity to Arabs. That would be correct if names as 'mac bin tunji' were pervasive amongst Yoruba people. Islam is a total concept and nothing identifies you as a Muslim more than your first name.

you are wrong.my actions and deeds should identify me as a muslim rather than my name.using arabic name as first name is loosing my identity.arabic name has no significance in me being a better muslim.

maclatunji:
You see Muslims calling themselves Abubakar after Abu Bakr, have you seen any Muslim name Abu Jahl or Abu Lahab?

I still say you are insecure. Yes, use your traditional names but this your theory screams out that you are personally insecure about your religion.

what makes you think i am insecure about my religion?i am not a default kinda muslim.the Quran clearly defines who a muslim is,a muslim is not one who bears arabic names.

maclatunji:
I guess by your logic, Herbert Macaulay and Henry Carr stopped being Yoruba men because of their English names.

at first they have lost their identity.ask any one that have not read or know them.first they will assume they are not africans.they have lost their identity.officially they stopped being yoruba.

The problem is that Khan claims that ancient Arabic is somehow overwhelmingly complex, but does not say why it is important. Classical Latin is also extremely complex, which is why western scientists preferred to use Latin as their primary language of expression up until 400 years ago. But so what. And ultimately it is a matter of opinion as to the quality of poetry. In English, the Quran is not beautiful. It is repetitive, boring, and menacing.

The problem of the Quran being 'revealed' to Muhammad is that the history of the time period was not written down until 150 years after Mo's death. This is not reliable history. Storytellers are human beings and they are quite capable of changing, adding, or subtracting from what really happened. This is hardly an effective method for a god to use to get people to believe him, especially skeptics. Using a strict historiographical approach, this is completely unreliable history. In addition there are no surviving alternate viewpoints of Muhammad, i.e. people who did not believe him. We don't know what they might have had to say.

considering the time revealed and the contents found therein make me wonder.. i am not debating about the compilation method of the Quran,i am asking you to disprove the incredible formation and contents of the quran.
the quran is revealed in Oral form not written.it is beyond human to compile such great work.mind you its the most difficult form of speech.(oral)

Billyonaire: Let us reason together says the Lord. I was scared when I was a kid of Hell fire; many adults are still scared today of hell fire, but none of the people who get scared actually spend a time in their life to truthfully, and scientifically reason the possibilities and impossibilities of eternal fire. Now, the real question is; When we die, our consciousness shifts from our physical perishable, combustible physical vehicle (body) to an ethereal soul body that can not be affected by fire, which is actually a physical energy that converts physical matter to vapor. FIRE CAN NOT HAVE EFFECT ON SOUL BODY. So why are people afraid of Hell, when in essence, Spirits as Soul cant be burnt, cant be destroyed, cant feel pains ? Well, I shall talk about Heaven another day, but never again should a man be scared of something without thinking - I guess millions worldwide who are scared of hell have questions to ask me and I am waiting.....Do dare tell me another fairytale story that human corpse that decayed in the numerous graves will become physical again, cos that will be very unscientific and stupid.

Religion / Zenith Of Hypocrisy by justaqad(m): 8:45am On Feb 04, 2013
i have heard most bogus claims from Atheist that God is Indeed wicked for creating hell.most of them cite the abode of Hell as utter wickedness.
they believe no amount of sin or wrong doing should deserves the punishment of hell.most christians precisely JW and Atheist agree on this.they all take the mercy of God for granted.
but one thing that strikes me most is their sheer hypocrisy.they believe it is justice to be rewarded with heavenly promises after a very tedious work/journey on Earth, but wicked to punish.
you romance you gun and even kiss it when you fire at your enemy but throw it away when your loved ones are the victim.
i have never heard Atheist or even JW,saying heaven is wickedness... why do you think you deserve heaven and not hell?
Religion / Re: Simple Problem Why Belief In Hell And Souls Is Not Only Wrong But Nonsensical by justaqad(m): 8:33am On Feb 04, 2013
Logicboy03: I go this idea from looking at a picture on reddit;

Note that there are conjoined twins.

For those who believe in souls from God (which there is no evidence of), you would have to believe that God made a mistake of putting two souls into one body or that the conjoined twins share a soul.

Also then think about hell. If they share a soul or body, how would justice be done if one rejected god and the other accepted god? There is only one soul and so, where would it be put?

If there are two souls, you would then have to accept that god makse mistakes because souls are not a product of eveolution but by god. You would have to accept that god makes mistakes. Now if there are two souls in one body, which soul takes the blame for the body having premarital sex? Or having an abortion?
Do both souls get punished or does one always take the fall? Does it alternate?

Furthermore, you would have to revise your soul theory (for 2 souls) to reduce the soul to be a function of the brain/mind because that is what separates the twins in this case. Furthermore, you would also admit that the soul can leave the body while the body is still alive because one twin might dies still leaving the other alive.

@the bolded.
i understand its typo, but still God does not make mistakes humans do.

Asalam Alaykum.

Islam is a religion not just to he Arabs but to the whole world,Simply by saying 'there is no god apart from God.

God bears witness that there is no other god besides Him, and so do the angels and those who possess knowledge."(Verse 3:18)

there is a trend among Muslims which i find not just disturbing but wrong.muslims are submitters to the will of Allah not to the will of Arabs.
we are loosing our identity to the Arabs.the essence of naming is for Identity.when i hear the name Chidi,i know he is Igbo by tribe.but it would be difficult to tell whether Gafar that resides in Oshodi is yoruba, igbo, hausa or Arab.
i fear we are loosing our cultural heritage to the Arabs.i beg to differ there is no such thing as Islamic name.i am not saying Arabic names are bad,but we ought not loose our identity.
i grew up with an Arabic name as my first name, whenever i say my first name, people start asking are you Hausa?it will take me me some seconds to introduce my self.i have since adopted my tribal name as my first, arabic second.
i am proud of my race,i am proud to be called Yoruba.i am not loosing it,not for anything.

He says that classical Arabic is complicated because ancient Arabic poets say it is, and anyone who is not a classical Arabic scholar should not question that. Since none of us are classical Arabic scholars, we are in no position to be able to challenge that. fallacy = Appeal to authority

There are different kinds of Arabic which he outlined the three most important.Quran was revealed in Ancient Arabic.it would be wrong to judge Ancient Arabic by Classic Arabic.if you are truly sincere and want to disprove the authenticity of the Quran, there are institutions where you can study Ancient Arabic.Ali nouman khan was not born 1500 years ago.he dedicated his time to study ancient Arabic.

onetrack:
He says that the truth of the Quran is proven just by the numbers of non-Arabs who converted. fallacy = appeal to popularity

Ambiguous claim.

onetrack:
He starts with an assumption that the Quran was 'revealed' in its complete form by Muhammad....there is no evidence of this since the first Quran was not written down until years after his death. Fallacy = begging the question

the whole Quran was revealed to Muhammad.most of which was memorized by majority of muslims, there were also written copy of the quran though not in the organized format as it is today.so whats your claim?

The whole video where your guy is talking about the greatness of Quranic Arabic. How foolish. I am not an Arab slave like you. If your God truly exists and is all powerful, you really think that he speaks one langauge (Arabic)?

Or if your Allah had any sense, his words would have easily been sent around in many languages. But no, we are left with some archaic form of Arabic in which the Quran can only be reasonably understood. If anyone has a problem with the Quran, they are told to try to understand Arabic or meet someone versed in the Quran and Arabic. Reeks of Arab slavery to me.

When it is time, you will soon go and face the Arab land of Mecca 5 times a day like an Arab slave. The same Arabs that spread islam by conquering your African ancestors and enslaving many of them.
