Justcash,

NLC is negotiating on their own behalf. They don't represent everything Occupy Nigeria and other protesters stand for.

You need to read and watch what's happening in your country. For you to think that NLC's fuel talks are a direct representation of the masses shows that you're probably reading headlines and not the actual news.
WHICH PEOPLE WILL YOU USE TO OCCUPY NIGERIA? ARE THEY NOT THE NIGERIANS IN THE PICTURES? THEY WANT CHEAP FUEL AND YOU ARE HERE ARGUING THAT THEY ARE FIGHTING AGAINST CORRUPTION.

PROTEST IS ALL ABOUT FUEL PRICE, NOT CORRUPTION

The Nigeria Labour Congress has resolved to stick with its earlier position that the federal government of Nigeria revert to the old price of petrol or face continuation of strikes, mass rallies and oil production shut down. The decision was taken at a just concluded a national executive council meeting in Abuja few minutes ago.

Labour leaders and civil society representatives stood their grounds at the meeting urging a labour representative group to take the mandate to the meeting between labour and the federal government slated for later tonight.

@Alj Harem and others; YOU PEOPLE SHOULD KEEP DECEIVING YOURSELVES. IF IT IS ABOUT CORRUPTION;

WHAT IS NLC NEGOTIATING FOR? END TO CORRUPTION?

WHY ARE PEOPLE NOT CALLING FOR THE TRIAL AND CONVICTION OF THE PAST LEADERS THAT PUT US IN THIS SITUATION?

WHY ARE PEOPLE NOT CALLING FOR THE ARREST AND TRIAL OF THE SO CALLED SUBSIDY AND PETROLEUM INDUSTRY CABAL?

WHY IS NLC SAYING 65 OR NOTHING?

KEEP DECEIVING YOURSELVES. YOU ARE PRETENDING AS IF YOU ARE PROTESTING CORRUPTION BEHIND YOUR COMPUTER, WHILE THE MASSES ARE OPENLY DEMANDING FOR ONLY REINSTATEMENT OF SUBSIDY.

WAIT TILL GEJ REVERTS AND SEE IF THINGS WILL NOT GET BACK TO NORMAL.

PoliticsNigerians Are Not Protesting Against Corruption. They Want Subsidy. That's All by Justcash(op): 4:17pm On Jan 14, 2012
I have heard a lot of people saying that the Nigerian masses are protesting against corruption. That is a big lie!
Nigerian masses want the price of fuel to be returned back to 65 Naira. That is what they are protesting for. The message is quite clear.

In essence, they care less about corruption and bad leadership. As long as they keep getting subsidy (awoof) from government, the government can freely steal them blind!

If I was GEJ, I will return the price of fuel to 65 Naira. The polity will become calm. I will eat my budgetary allocation billions in peace, while Nigerians enjoy the subsidy. I will also steal enough, so that when debts pile beyond control, I will go and live in Mars with my private space craft. I KEEP WONDERING WHY GEJ IS BOTHERING HIS LIFE TO SAVE NIGERIA FROM AN IMPENDING DOOM! NA WA FOR THAT MAN O!

IT IS OBVIOUS THAT NIGERIANS PREFER CORRUPTION. WHAT A FRIGGIN PITY!

I am not happy that people are dying for the wrong reason. I regret the wasting of those full blooded youngmen for no good reason. PoliticsWhy Is The Protest So Intense In The West And North? Why Are They Bitter? by Justcash(op): 4:28am On Jan 10, 2012
I don't understand why the Westerners and Northerners are laying down their lives due to the removal of fuel subsidy. Yes, there are people of other regions among the protesters, but the anger seems more intense in the West and North.
One would expect that the riots in the East would have been next to none, given that the oil is produced in that region and they should feel that they are paying too much for their God given resources. However, they are relatively calm. They have more understanding of the whole subsidy issue. Even the protests that took place in the East were subtle and less bloody.

DOES THIS PROTEST HAVE ANYTHING TO DO WITH THE ETHNIC CONCENTRATION OF THE BENEFICIARIES (MARKETERS) OF THE SUBSIDY? THEY LOOK LIKE SPONSORED PROTESTS.
I am saying this because I know that Nigerians appreciate life. For them to be ready to  lay it down, something very tangible must be involved or the shooters were overzealous.

I THINK THIS IS A USELESS PROTEST BECAUSE IT IS ONLY BEING EMBARKED ON TO REVERT THE PRICES OF FUEL TO 65 NAIRA. EVERY OTHER THING WILL REMAIN THE SAME, WHICH MEANS WE WILL KEEP WALLOWING IN UNDER-DEVELOPMENT. THE PROTEST SHOULD BE ABOUT STAMPING OUT CORRUPTION AND CHANGING THE WHOLE POLITICAL ARCHITECTURE  OF NIGERIA, WHICH MEANS THE CURRENT POLITICAL SYSTEM WITH ALL THE POLITICAL PARTIES (BLOOD SUCKERS) SHOULD BE EXTERMINATED.
IF THE ABOVE IS NOT THE REASON FOR THE PROTEST, THE PROTESTERS ARE ON THEIR OWN O!

The short term impact at the micro level is reduction in disposable income after fuel and transport costs, as well as a fall in real income due to inflation. Painful.
If the fiscal space freed up leads to improved power, infrastructure and productivity then we get growth, jobs and industrial development in the medium to long term.
Success depends on implementation of sound policies and improvement in governance and accountability. What I think is that Nigerians intuitively understand why this has to be done but don't believe government can deliver on the promise so they may end up with pain without gain. I don't blame them as the record of govt has been poor. Its up to govt to prove them wrong.

Most times i wonder at the ignorance all my Igbo brothers who have never crossed to the north.
Do you think Igbo people can return with leather-bags just like hausa people i saw today
Let me use this analogy- Imagine Yoruba people telling Igbos to leave Lagos.
Here is my point wherever Igbos settle they own houses and businesses. So telling someone to sell all his property and come and begin from the scratch is hard. If you say life is more important I will ask what is life without value
So, you are implying that they should stay and die there because they have houses and businesses there? Can businesses not be liquidated? You have not made suggestions. What are you advising them to do? Stay put and get gunned down, slaughtered like rams and bombed at will? Just to protect properties? You gat to be kidding.
They should empty their houses, and relocate down south.  Most Igbomen up North are business men. Few are civil servants.  Civil servants should protest enmass and seek for transfers out of those troubled areas. If they really cannot return home due to wealth concerns, then they should be ready to bear the consequences of their decisions.
Nothing beats having life. You must have life to be able to enjoy wealth.

Forgive me but what does one's spelling have to do with anything? I'm sure you are aware that there are many dialects in imo alone, talkless of igbo in general. Owerri people speak differently from mbaise despite being neighbours! And biko kam jua gi, how is it that you do not have pity for your brothers getting murdered? Regardless of where they are, does anyone really deserve dying? when dey finish killing them in the north, guess what will happen, dey'll still come to east to complete what they've started. Nwanne che e chiche nna da!
Yes, there are different dialects, however, some spellings are obviously universal to Igbos. Doro means drag, Duru means lead, while Nduru means path. Saying Nduru nduru for Ndoro Ndoro gives a different meaning. Your argument would have made more sense If I implied that  using a word like, "Omala mma" for "Omara mma" is wrong. That is where the issue of dialect may make sense.

Concerning your second point, I have no pity on them. They should return home, or down south. Staying up North is suicidal. Anything can happen. If they insist on staying, they are on their own.

And who told you that Ohaneze is that influential? Igbos are naturally decentralized. No single individual or group influences the whole of Igbo nation. There must be divergence of views. If Ojukwu could not succeed in making some Igbos to return and invest more at home, who then is Ohaneze?
It is natural for a threatened person to seek for safety. No be today the killing of Igbos start. Boko haram said that they don't want Igbos around, and historical cases show the high casualty rate that occure when these mallams become blood thristy. Did they require soldiers to tell them to leave the North ASAP?? What were they still doing there? They should come back home and invest with their lives intact. I SUPPORT BEAF!

IT'S GOOD THAT THE FRIGGIN FUEL SUBSIDY IS GONE.

THE FG SHOULD ENSURE TRUE FEDERALISM AND IN FACT DIVIDE THIS UNGOVERNABLE POO HOLE OF A COUNTRY.

IT IS TIME FOR EVERY REGION IN NIGERIA TO TAP INTO THEIR TRUE POTENTIALS. FOR EXAMPLE, BOKO HARAM CAN DEVELOP THE ACT OF BOMB MAKING FOR EXPORTS.

IF SUBSIDY MUST BE RETAINED, THE FG SHOULD SUBSIDIZE COST OF COWS, RAMS, GOATS, TOMATOES, ONIONS, LEATHER AND EVERYTHING FROM THE NORTH. THE PRICES OF THESE STUFFS ARE HAVING A BIG IMPACT ON THE COST OF DELICACIES LIKE SUYA!!!

THESE LAZY HEADS WANT IGBOS TO JOIN IN REVOLTING SO THAT THEY CAN WITHDRAW AND SEND BRAINLESS SCORPIONS TO KILL WOMEN, CHILDREN AND OBJECTS THAT AINT MOVING. AFTER WHICH THEY WILL COME HERE AND BRAG ABOUT COWARDS LIKE THE BRAINLESS SCORPION? TUFIAKWA!!

There are Igbos among the protesters. If you actually think Igbos are not there, can we see your evidence?

SEE WHAT I MEANhuh?

A group, Youth Alliance for the De regulation of the Downstream Oil Sector, has urged other Nigerian youths to embrace the removal of fuel subsidy which took effect on Sunday.

Addressing a news conference, in Abuja, on Monday, Mr Okechukwu Okorie, the coordinator of the group, urged Nigerian youths to avoid any form of protest as it would only lead to chaos in the already “tension-soaked country”.

“Information reaching us reveals that some of the major cabals that are benefiting from the fuel subsidy are busy organising some disgruntled youths for a protest march.

“We want to sound a note of warning that if any Nigerian youth comes out on the streets of Nigeria, we shall mobilise youths to counter any protest march.”

Okorie noted that the arguments for or against deregulation “are mainly from the high, mighty and the privileged” who are the only beneficiaries of fuel subsidy.

He said because the youths are the most affected by government policies, it was important to deregulate the sector to fund education, provide jobs and secure their lives.

Okorie urged the Federal Government to provide good transport system and other infrastructure to alleviate the sufferings of the people.

PoliticsRevolution Is Not Possible In Nigeria. Ethnic Hatred Apart, Nigerians Love Life by Justcash(op): 4:22am On Jan 03, 2012
I laugh in pidgin when I hear people talking about revolting against the government and its policies. It is not possible in Nigeria.
I have not seen citizens of any country that love life as much as Nigerians. Revolutions require extensive loss of lives and destruction. Toture and arrests need to be endured by revolutionaries. The death of comrades should spur and not lead them to capitulation. This was how it happened in Tunisia, Libya etc to cite recent examples.
Having the above in mind, it is clear that Nigerians can never and will never revolt against the government. Even if a group starts it up, it will be quelled as fast as it was started.
Ethnic and religious division is not helping issues. How can a revolution be possible about fuel subsidy when Boko haram is threatening southerners to leave the North? Who will gather to revolt when it cannot be ascertained if the bullets and bombs will come from Boko Haram or Police?
Nigeria, as it is now, can never ever experience a revolution. If it will happen, it will only be in some sections of the country, and Nigerians from other sections will be used by the FG to condemn and fight against the protests. Does the 1 million march for and against Abacha ring a bell? That is one of many examples.
PoliticsEscaped The Kano Riots 20 Yrs Ago And Lost His Daughters In The 2011 Xmas Blast by Justcash(op): 8:20am On Dec 28, 2011
Abuja-based businessman, Sir Emmanuel Obiukwu, lost four of his daughters in the Christmas Day bomb blast at the Saint Theresa’s Catholic Church, Madalla, Niger state. The man fled with his family from Kano State and settled at Madalla, following the insurgence in that state, where they almost died 20 years later.

Sir Obiukwu, 58, was sighted by Daily Sun at the National Hospital, Abuja, looking despondent and shattered as he went up and down in the hospital, and finally stopped at a point where his kinsmen, friends and church members, who had come to sympathize with him were gathered.
Daily Sun, sought to know why the crowd was gathered and discovered that it was about the calamity that had befallen Obiukwu’s family.

Obiukwu, who was very emotional lamented that since the incident occurred on Sunday, they had to no avail, gone from one hospital to the other, searching for the corpses of his daughters after ensuring the admission of their mother and sister, who survived the dastardly act.

Chioma Obiukwu, the most senior daughter and a University final year student, Ifeoma and Uchenna Obiukwu, twins and Chidimma Obiukwu, he believed, had all perished beyond recognition since he said that he watched them standing along the road right at the spot where the blast occurred, as they tried to cross over to enter the car after the mass.
“Since I left Kano because of the riot, I have not been happy but I said, this is a free land these Hausa people cannot make much problem because they like to kill any how, but here is a unity place, no problem it is safe. As I left Kano that was what I had on my mind, but this is really from fry pan to fire.

“We went for 6 O’clock mass at St. Theresa’s Catholic Church in Madalla. The mass dismissed at about 8.30 to 9 O’clock, so families were heading for home.
People were at the road there directing movement; I was in front of the church. Suddenly, by then my children and my wife had come, I gave them car key to go and board the car across the road. I told them to cross over to the car so that I could wear-off my church warden dress and go to drop them before I come back to officiate during the 10:00am mass.

“So as they were going, they wanted to cross the road and while I was coming out, I heard a thunderous sound and since I did not know where the sound was coming from, I ran in and hid myself behind one of the pillars. See dust everywhere, but as soon as I recovered from the shock because I was not hurt, I looked out and saw fire, see all those cars coming out from the church were just burning. My children had not crossed the road. So they were there when that bomb blasted. Four of them, I did not see them up till now.

“After admitting my wife and second daughter here on Sunday so that we know their condition before we start looking for the other ones, after their admission, we started going round the whole hospitals in Abuja, after that back to General hospital in Suleija, we could not see any person. So, I told my people, all the corpse we saw, they are beyond recognition, even the ones here, (National Hospital) because majority are here and Gwagwalada, they are beyond recognition.
“So I went there checking one by one, people I saw, I couldn’t recognize them, that is how we have been going round and round, no one up till now. It was that place they stood to cross the road that the incident happened, my car was blasted, if you go there, it is still there, so that was how I confirmed that they might have been burnt beyond recognition.

“We have not been able to recognize anyone that even resembled any of my daughters. The one we wanted to recognize at State House clinic, that had the size of my daughter, they were two corpses inside, they said the owners had already identified them because their mother and the other one are inside the other apartment of the mortuary. Those two were in the second apartment. They said that their owners had already come to identify them, because all of them were evacuated from one car, they got burnt inside the car as family. So that was how we left that place,”
Asked if he had given up the hope on their survival since their corpses were not yet identified, he said, nothing was impossible with God “I believe that they are gone because of the incident there, that was my belief but I still have hope. If God by miracle raises them from anywhere, I will accept, but for me as a human being, I saw the incident there, I doubt. They are gone.

Obiukwu is bitter about the loss and pains inflicted on him and his family, not because he was questioning the powers of God over death and life, but because the bomb blasts had become a recurrent issue in the country and he had lost his daughters because nothing was done to stop the bombings.
“President Jonathan should do something better because this is not the first, not the second, not the third. I am sure that more are coming. Jonathan should wake up and know what to do, that is my candid appeal to him. He should wake up,” he said.
Expressing joy that his entire family did not perish in the inferno, the Awka-Etiti, Idemili South, Anambra State man, said that his wife’s health was fast improving, believing God also for the other daughter, Chiamaka. He is also thankful to God that he and his son were not hurt, considering the fact that some families may have lost everyone to the same or a related blast.

On the eve of Christmas, an alleged member of the Boko Haram was arrested between Imilike Agu and Ogboduaba communities in Udenu LGA, Enugu State, allegedly on a mission to bomb University of Nigeria, Nsukka and one other higher institution of learning in Enugu State capital.

A source who pleaded anonymity, said the neighbourhood watch cited a man with strange movement and alien dressing, accosted him for clarification, explaining that he confessed his membership of the Boko Haram sect on a mission to bomb the University of Nigeria, Nsukka.

The alleged Boko Haram member came out of a forest where he and his accomplices had stayed for several days to buy cigarette but could not locate his way back to the forest before his arrest.

“When he was searched, some explosives were discovered on him, while he was later handed over to Obollo-Afor police division for further interrogation,” the source said.

He further said that the apprehended member of the sect also took them to their hide-out in the forest only for others to flee on sensing danger.

It would be recalled that earlier this year, the Boko Haram issued stern threat to bomb the University of Nigeria, Nsukka and other universities in the South East zone.

Contacted for comment, Enugu State Police Public Relations Officers, PPRO, Mr. Ebere Amarizu, confirmed the report, saying the alleged Boko Haram member who hailed from Kano State, behaved as though he was insane.

The PPRO, noted that there were no explosives recovered from him as widely rumoured, explained that the suspect was currently in police custody while investigation was ongoing.
