buzugee: now lets dissect the word 'parasites' , as it is a harsh label. some people are voluntary parasites. some people are involuntary parasites. victims of circumstances. the later do not deserve the 'parasite' tag When you become a liability to your host, only taking and not giving back then you become a parasite, in fact an endoparasite. |

jascon1: i believe laziness contributes to your problem. i know is not easy accomodating someone even in 9ja here. is same. your host expects some favour in return. naturally, as humans we appreciate living with hardworking ppl. again as nigerians we have SWEET MOUTH. sweetmouth and sincere familial gestures drive deep into the heart and make ppl endear to us. we know say for 9ja as a normal worker, dont wake up 8am. impossible! and for those living in lagos, abuja or portharcourt we can testify time serious workers wake up. only a lazy jobless man will BE AWAKEN 8am. na sleep u go sleep for irland. and duty call demands, when u are working, u must assist your host. no matter how little. at least the jobless woman lives on grants and she got kids. u have to assist her. before she asks, give her what you have budgetted and make it plain. i dont think if you give b4 she asks and explain why it is so she will ask again. for the kids, to baff pikin again na work? chai! you just expose how lazy u be. so if na your pikin, even tho say u don tire, u no go fit baff dem. another thing be say, maybe, (clears throat) you no dey give am magic bed-shakes. na true na! maybe she don reson am, how man go dey her house and yet she dey catch cold. be a daddy to her kids and a man to her, i swear u gain t top respect from any woman. as for the guy wey dey take person money, e no good oh! that na hard earned money in a foreign land. e no easy at all. na God go reward am. make your friend find one good girl marry for there. u! WAKE UP! u r lazy and u have no appreciation at all. Thank you!! That is just the point. |

bullet G: Going by what i have read so far, i noticed Nigerians in UK are more against helping out!, i think this is a uk thing!, the are sooooo stingy!, generally naija's in abroad dont like to help others, but its worst in UK. i was in london 4 1year but am based on the schengen side of Europe now. Come to Austria, Germany, Swizz, Spain, Holland , Greece or even Sweden, people come in on a daily basis without money, home or even cloths and the are been accommodated and taken care of untill the find there feet. for example, in Austria there are lots of people from Agbo, once someone comes to Austria and you are from Agbo, then u dont have problem, the will take u in immediately and take care of u. like in Greece, we have different Nigerian associations, once a new person comes in, his being taken the association where he is from and these association have houses the pay for , for new comers. the problem with people in uk is that uk still have 9ja mentality, everybody is claiming to be rich, to much competition, jealousy, and no one wants to help because the feel the are better than u and the dont want u to succeed like them. My final word is this, guys in abroad, if you can afford to help, assist or accommodate a fellow brother, please just do it with an open mind, some will appreciate u while others might not, dont come here to justify urself cos u dont have the good will to help someone, You are obviously reading people's post upside down, people are NOT against helping other Nigerians, the issue is when somebody helps you then show some form of appreciation, be useful to that person no matter how little. Don't eat your cake and have it. If you are too big to appreciate what somebody has done for you without been told then provide for yourself simple!! |

Postal service application duration depends on a number of issues and how straight forward you package your application. Some have had their application processed within two weeks other four weeks!
Guess you are also aware that following the immigration rules, while your visa application is being considered, it is as though your previous visas is still valid, so you can go about your normal activity pending the outcome of your application.
As for the online forms not being available, UKBA are having technical issues and they are hoping to get it fixed over the weekend. So you may want to check back on Monday.
Which immigration rule please? |

buzugee: ahhhh but you dont get it. you have to give people some leeway before you start heaping demands on them.anyway the issue here is if you are not financially solvent enough to take someone in, then you shouldnt. you are doing a disservice both to yourself and the person you take in. The issue of demand shouldn't come in at all if he helps out around the house without been told, no matter how little its, at least clean your own mess and don't wait for your host to remind you. |

Yes it does happen but when anybody volunteered to accommodate you then appreciate it, don't start moaning about petty things like tidying up and help out around the house, if you are too big to do that then take the next available flight back to Nigeria. |

buzugee: all you simple minded bellicose nigerians sef. if you are too cheap to comfortably offer your fellow man unparalleled and infinite hospitality and accommodation then please dont do it. is it by force ? gezzzz. yall sound like you need jobs as PETTY officers. most people who do this type of things are youths. at thatt age their mind is not fully right. they are experiencing culture shock coupled with the anticipation and anxiety of how to get ahead in a new country coupled with battling the kind of cold weather they have never experienced in their life coupled with having to adjust to sharing those tiny london flats coupled with all the other adjustments they have to make. they are mentally frozen for at least 3 months before they snap out of it and then start getting comfortable with their new sorroundings and how to go about getting stuff done. BOTTOM LINE ----IF YOU ARE TOO CHEAP TO OFFER SOMEONE FROM NAIJA UNPARALLELED AND INFINITE HOSPITALITY FOR 3 MONTHS WITHOUT EXPECTING THEM TO START SWEEPING YOUR HOUSE OR PAYING YOUR BILLS OR WASHING YOUR PLATES OR TAKING YOUR LIL BELLIGERENT KIDS TO SCHOOL OR TRYING TO PUSH THEM OUT ETC ETC ETC, THEN PLEASE DONT DO IT. AS IT IS THE FIRST 3 MONTHS IN ANY YOUTHS LIFE IN ANY WESTERN COUNTRY FROM NAIJA IS FULL OF ANXIETY AND DEPRESSION. WHAT THEY NEED IS LOVE AND UNDERSTANDING. IF YOU CANT PROVIDE IT THEN PLEASE DO NOT. You don't leave Nigeria with all those ''couples'' to depend on anybody in a foreign land in 21 century. |

The problem u always have and most people here have discovered is simple you always run away from the truth. The topic of this issue is not about showing sign of appreciation. Principal in life cannot work with somebody or anybody's clock. If you can't help from the start then suit yourself. Our old yoruba fathers says ''ibere ki n se onise, afi eni toba pari e''
Are u telling us here that it has never happened before? And those that happened to was as a result for not shwoing sign of appreciation? Comon, stop dancing yahoozee in my brain. Heyy all Nairalanders, let me tell u the BITTER TRUTH, justwise actualy knows the truth, but he's just trying to ignore the truth for his own selfish interest so as to get hailed as the true writer. for you guys to prove me wrong, go back and search for all similar thread like this and read, u will see all his comments there as the opposite of what he wrote here. Go out there and see ghanians, pakistanians, etc, they use to help themselves, so what are u talking about? Come back and and type a 20 pages in other to paint yourself a good color in support of greedy & selfish nigerians like you. Siena: Why don't Nigerians abroad like helping other Nigerians? Well, read this! This is an extract from a very good friend's blog:
Freedom Dance 2
So I was saying,
When I was in Bristol, I learnt so many things that made me and broke me. The culture shock was out of this world. I found it hard to cope. I did have a few friends that were supportive but for me it was just hard. I moved house a couple of times. The first house I lived in was fine but my housemates turned out to be very annoying so I moved to another one and then months later when that tenancy ended, I then moved in with my friend Charl
It was cool living with Charl, we had a few ups and downs but when it comes with living with someone but she was a really cool housemate. Anyway, she had to leave Bristol to move to London so I was alone in the flat. I had the option of leaving but I was approached by some guy to let some Nigerians like me move in and share. That was one of the biggest mistakes of my life amongst other mistakes. You see, as a newbie in England you are warned not to mix with Nigerians by Nigerians.
And I tell you, Nigerians in Nigeria, though not perfect are better that the Nigerians abroad. I am not generalising, but I rather hang out in a morgue than with some Nigerians here. Well what happened? They moved in and didn’t pay the bills and yours truly was left with all the debt. It took me one year to clear but I did it. The bills ranged from water, light, rental, gas and electricity. I was stuck! Tragic! What did I do? Well instead of telling my family about my “incident” I decided to work a lot more. Not like I wasn’t working before, I did a little stint at a retail store which I hated, I also worked for the Royal mail, there were other part time jobs I did once in a while… nothing major.
At the time I was left with all that debt, I had no job. I was depressed, down and out. School was giving me a headache, I missed home. To sum it up, I was miserable. Then I got lucky and I had this Caribbean friend who got me a cleaning job.
It was not easy; I had to clean four floors of a primary/secondary school including a basement. I worked there for a few weeks and luckily I got a job a case officer/support worker, working in a hostel with victims of domestic abuse. It was a nice job because I got to witness what abuse could do to a person. I did learn a lot that I would share in good time long and short of it. I will never forget the women I met there and something inside me hopes that they have found the strength to live. It sort of shaped me as a woman.
So, every time my mum will call, I would act like it was all okay. You see, I am really proud; I hate to ask so I thought. Well, people are working so why don’t I just work. I managed to pay off most of the debt. Which was good, the bad news was that I got fired from that Job after a few months… Ouch!
You see, while working as a support worker I got a new place and moved in with another Nigerian. What pisses me off the most was after my experience with those Nigerians, I didn’t think it would do any harm because I was trusting and I felt, why paint my people with the same paint. It was when my bank called me to tell me that my card was being used and on investigation it turned out that my housemate was keeping himself busy with my money. Then I knew that it was time to stop living with my people, It wasn’t worth it, besides if I needed to fly my flag there were other ways to do it. He also left me with bills to pay! The only consolation was it wasn’t as bad as the first ones.
It’s not like I have this fantastic life story. But you see going through so many things made me who I am today. I learnt a lot of things and I am glad for one lesson England taught me. “No one owes you anything”! I also found that you can be deep in poo and there will be people to push you deeper!
When I wake up in the morning, just go look at the mirror and I smile and I tell myself its ok to enjoy life after all the stress. Then I do a little booty shaking dance! I love my flat!
Warden actually said something to me a few months ago that really touched me, He talked about the fact that I did everything by myself to get where I am today. Believe me I did. I have struggled, cried, fought to be here. I have lost friends, made friends but I am here because I pushed myself. Because I didn’t let anyone break me.
It’s been 6 years in London. I have loved it! I do miss home but my heart is here for now because I am living. Because when I was growing up I always told myself I would be somewhere else where I could do what I wanted. I have developed a love for travel and I indulge when I can.
Through it all I am thankful. I am thankful for the people I met … I can’t thank my friends enough for all their support and it’s just so beautiful when you finally get somewhere and dare to ask for more… I still have bad days but I am hopeful it gets better.
My family have been the biggest support ever! They are my life
My story is my Freedom Dance….

bullet G: @SIENA Mind you, the topic is not WHY DO PPL WE HELP NOT SHOW APPRECIATION!, it is why we dont like helping each other in abroad, it is very rare 4 you to accommodate someone and the person will just sit at home without trying to help out in any way he can, but the problem is dont take advantage simply bcuz your helping someone, dont kill him or turn him to your house maid because he is staying with u!, since my 6years here, i have learnt that abroad is not about who came 1st, i have seen some ppl making it in less than 3yrs of being here and this same ppl were once homeless when the came newly! help if u can and dont if u cant! but dont take undue advantage!! It goes both ways, you can't talk about 'help' without relating it to appreciation no matter how little or big its. Do not abuse the hospitality and next time you complain why Nigerians don't help each other abroad. |

bullet G: @justwise, your turning the point around, i can understand what the op means, generally Nigerians abroad dont help themselves!, i have been in Europe for 6years now and i will say what the guy is saying is true! we dont like helping ourselves!, no one will even give u 5euro without wanting something in return! My point here is if you want to help someone, dont do it bcus you want to take advantage of the person, do it buz u really want to help and dont expect anything in return, you will never know? the same guy u helped might turn out to be the person who will help u tomorrow. Europe or will i say abroad have always been YOU ARE ON YOUR OWN! I'm not turning anything around, Nigerians abroad don't have joint account where everybody who pays in is entitled to withdraw, if somebody helps you then show some appreciation, if you don't then you ''might'' stop that person from rendering help to another Nigerian next time. . . hence the issue of: Nigerians abroad don't help each other'' People who refuses to help might have treated badly by the previous person they helped. |

Was it not untill my friend got there we discorvered this but have no choice than to manage it. So, why are u backing up who u dont know
My first question on this forum regarding this was ''Why we nigerians dont help ourself, period. And if u cant answer, then its better u remain silent and allow others to reason reasonably. Why did your friend not rent a room with that money? Whatever the woman does with her benefit money is not you and your friends business, she is claiming what she is entitled to, she is a single mother and have the right to date or sleep with whoever she wants, its her life and got nothing to do with you and your nosey friends. If it bothers you and your friend then next time your friend becomes homeless accommodate him and keep your nose out of single mother's business. The reason why Nigerians abroad don't help each other is because of ungrateful people like you and your friend. |

usewisdom: Yes, to start with https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-503440.0.html I have more if u want. And lastly, the truth is we all came from thesame country, and so there is no harm or crime in it if we help our brother or sister in time of such prob, I've accommodated someone in London 8 years ago for good 6 month, and another about 5 years ago, i dont need to mention names, and till now they appreciate me and respect me personaly, i never ask them to do this or do that or ask them a penny or expect anything from them in reward. Never, and i will never do that. And non of them has ever incovinent me. We lived like family.
So, THIS IS THE BITTER TRUTH. Lets all say the truth, even the bible says ''say the truth and the truth shall save u. I'm still finding it very difficult to believe that its you justwise can said all this out in support of the woman My posts and many others were cleared in that thread then by the Mod, so there is nothing there to read. usewisdom quote the bible to your ungrateful friend, the single mother living on benefit volunteered to accommodate your friend who works and your friend could not show any form of appreciation. . . . topup gas/electricity they all use, walk her kids to school (if he is free) or tidy-up the house without been told. Those are simple things any bible quoting Christian will do without consulting God. The lady probably got fed up and started acting up just to get rid of your friend who does absolutely nothing for her other than moaning, for the fact that we are all Nigerians does not mean we should abuse the hospitality rendered to us. |
