I think I agree with majority of the post here that claim that we Nigerians have caused it. This is our mess caused by years of abusing the system that we have now been tarnished with the fraud brush. I may say there is nothing wrong with that as other countries have their flaws, India(fraud), turkey,Amsterdam(drugs), Latvia, Serbia etc(people trafficking), West Indies(violent crimes), Nigeria(Fraud).Nigerians will just have to live with this stereotype.

Years ago when I was working in the Royal Courts of Justice, I got chatting to one of the Oyinbo High Court judges, he asked me where I was from and I said Nigeria. He then said(as a matter of fact, no offence intended) that whenever he has a Nigerian accused before him, it is more likely fraud/deception whilst a Jamaican accused is more likely a violent crime like violation, assault etc. I went to a seminar yesterday and again Nigeria was mentioned in relation to fraud, equally Holland was mentioned in relation to Prostitution. I was not offended and felt slightly disappointed that it had come to this.

Face it , the papers are not sensationalising anything. fact is fact. We are known for that and as Justwise has said, the minute you hear fraud in the news, 8 times out of 10, a Nigerian name will be included in the mix.

UKBA and BHC are truly justified in dealing with us sceptically. As a Nigerian, I will not appreciate people coming into my country and abusing the law etc so serious vetting must be done. Fake documents in relation to anything is rife in Nigeria e.g buying a house, doing business, visa applications etc. I have come across them all.

So,leave them to it, its their borders and they can protect it as ferociously and unfairly(u claim) as they want.

All you and I can do is present ourselves with dignity and integrity and hopefully those we come across will treat us with respect and realise that not all Nigerians are like that.
As one poster also suggested, the problem is with us not them. Lets clean up our acts so that those that come in will maintain and respect the good standards we have set.
