Same here. But in America it is expected and they will give you attitude if you don't do so whereas in places like England and Nigeria it is not obligatory.
Well. . .in that case, i will not be in a hurry to visit that restaurant again b4 they give me 'rat eat and die'

I think Chika98 is using the US as his point of reference. In that part of the world it can be considered highly offensive if you don't tip.
Ok, but even at that, i will only tip if i was given good service.

I wish the poster's friend can read this.
Yes. .the bf should pick that phone and say to his family calmly and politely. . .i love this lady and she loves me, we want to be together, I'm old enough to know what i want and i need your support,if you love me and want me to be happy then this is when to show it.

I mean. . the bf can't blame his family if this rela/ship ends, his family shouldn't choose who he should fall inlove with.

I will try to get in touch with his family, because never before I have seen them or talked with them,But i always send my love and regards to them. But I think to get it touch with them will be difficult, cause they don't want to talk with him, what about me?
I just want to be fine with them.I am not a bad person and I want to show them my love towards my boyfriend.

P.S thank you all for your opinion,it's important for me to get into all this things more,
That will be good idea if u can.

She will become their cash machine, if the money is not flowing then the love is not there. Her bf should do the bribing and talking not her

how about you buy your way into the family

sssh its just a secret dont say i told you!!
grin grin, i disagree, buy them nothing! Your bf has to prove how much he loves you now, this is where he should show what he meant when he says he loves you. This is love in action, not when all is rosy and juicy but in a case like this. . .he should stand up and be counted.

simple cool cool,

Goosh i cant imagine we Africans complaining that RACISM is everywhere
when we cant simply allow our sons marry their daughter's

No wonder some Africans are far from civilization
Its upto 'us' to move things forward, we need to learn how to say 'no' politely to our families and stand by it, yes it may get rocky at first but they will soften it up with time.

I still don't know what to do. Your culture is very strict and I know if family says 'no' then nothing can be done.I am praying all the time and hope GOD will help us.
Just looking for a way to let his family know they are wrong and cause us pain and pain.
Actually that is not the whole truth, not all Nigerian culture is like that, maybe in 70s or early 80s but things have changed now, many families are more accommodating of other cultures than b4

I am a Nigerian and i have seen what Nigerian ladies can do
look @ this Guinea fowl riff rat called odunnu now, do you think i would ever let my son
marry such a lady into my family, GEEZ!!
I have seen serious cases of where families wouldn't want their kids to get married and cos of love
these kids stick in { without their parents blessings or whatever } and these marriages work
as long as there is LOVE { notice its in caps } things are bond to work,
this lady loves this guy here so why cant she have this guy to herself and later we africans would
come out and start shouting RACISM RACISM RACISM angry angry
I don't normal agree with u but in this case i have to, my family can only support my choice of partner or they back off, its my life, my wife.

I guess it is a scam 'cos even me that did not apply was sent the mail. So you friend has to be careful. A word is enough for the wise.
That was my initial feeling but then again since the email stated that the USA embassy will send him a letter then he has to wait untill the letter comes, he will be able to verify it. That is ONLY if he entered the visa lottery.

It is rude not to tip. If I've gotten a bad service then I tip about 10% of the total bill. But the standard I tip all the time is 20% or 15% it depends. Unless of course When I travel out of the country to somewhere else that isn't big on tipping then I wont tip.
I don't think its rude not to tip, i think tiping should be a personal thing, one shouldn't be forced to tip.

no they are not. A small number of the ivy league have weak research profiles though they are weak in teh US, but would be qualified as strong in the UK. For example Brown is seen as a weak research institution in the US but its research profile is stronger than 80% of the Russell Group. However the student body and prestige at brown in the US is very strong. The job opportunities available to a graduate from Brown would be very very significant.
In geenral most people in the US make a distinction between rigorous undergraduate institutions and Research universities.
You might as well say OAU/UI is equivalent to Harvard since these are the best in nigeria. Also depends on your definition of good opportunities. They would do the trick though for a simple job but most would not get you a job at an elite firm easily.
Anyways I think at this point I want to encourage everyone to go back home. There is so much we couldn do for Nigeria with the education we receive abroad.Dont you miss pounded yam and eguisi soup, because I do.
i agree, its the right of the UK to limit immigration in their country. Their system seems to be already overburdened
Come on guys there is Canada and Australia- these countries have small population density, at leasy consider your prospects there.

There is only one place that no one would be chasing you about in terms of immigration and stuff. the country where you were born----Naija grin
Thats a serious point, though its hard to make that decision, the way things are here now, alot of pple would cherish the opportunity of moving back home, but its hard to make that move.

Have been living in the uk for the past 6 years and i can tell you UK is not what it used to be back in the days, my advice to people back home who want to come to the UK, should stay put, use your money to invest in business or any other things you can think of.Alot of people here wanna go back home, but the prospects of security, no light and bad road and health scare the hell out of most people here.
You can't blame the UK government for wanting to reduce immigrant, for one they cant reduce the EU which take massive part of their employments, due to referendum they had with the EU, hence reducing people from non eea.
Let me remind you guys of when ghana was in our country doing all the odds jobs, what did we say, GHANA MUST GO, did you see where the brits are coming from now?No money, goverment cutting all jobs like there is no tomorrow, and people are getting more angrier by the day.
Also to friends, families back at home, should cut we guys here some slack as they expect us to be sending them ridiculous amount of money everytime. Alot of people cant even afford to eat 3 times a day here. RANT OVER
That is true but a bitter one, not everybody will see it that way.

The US ivyleague is different from the Russel Group. It comprises the most elite undergraduate institutions. Most of these institutions open job opportunities and have a social and academic tag that only Oxbridge in the UK can match.

Anyways, Nigeria is really a high risk country- eevryone is trying to run away from naija, dont understand why though.
Are those two groups ranked based on the quality of research they carried out or what?

You are aspiring to be an English man, you are better off getting your writing skill sorted out then you can graduate to skin bleaching, then various surgeries such as nose restructuring etc. before thinking of supporting the English man with your dribbles.Mr justwise, today is Saturday I have got better things to do with my weekend than throwing banter with someone that gladly walked into 21 century slave trade.
