Hello Nairalanders, I'm a student in the Uk and my visa runs till late next year, I've been here for almost 2yrs now. I'm thinking of visiting america for my next holiday, I've heard from people that its quite easy to apply from here with a student visa but I'm just a bit confused about some few things like how much money must I have in my account and other stuffs that are related to the application. I'm looking to go when my college is on holiday. I will appreciate any useful advice

Its easy to get IF u do the right thing first, get a letter from ur school, stating that u a student and get an insurance.

The amount u should have in ur account depends on how long u will be spending in USA or if u are invited by somebody.

I am a bit confused, my dad wants to give me two different statement of accounts from different banks that both shows money was in both accts for
28days. The issue here is that if i decide to take only 1 of any of the statement of accounts, the money in it would not be enough but when they are

Nothing wrong in using both bank accounts but remember to attach ur birth certificate and sponsor's letter from your dady to ur visa application package.

hi justwise, it's like this: i had 3.5milion on the 20th of july. i sent about 1.5million to my husband's current acct to send to the school, and put about 1.3million in a fixed deposit, leaving a balance of 700,000 in my savings, on the next day(21st july). I printed my account balance on the 23rd of august, after my fd had matured back into my savings,therefore making my total balance about 2m+. On the statement it showed the fd time, and the maturity time. my question is really that did i need to still add a fd letter, and will the ECO be able to understand that 1.2 was held for 30 days, while 700,000 was held for the same amount of time in the account?

Femtopsy made a good point in his reply, get a letter from ur bank that will explain that to the BHC, that is better than leaving them guessing what is what.

On my brother's application, he is set to apply by Monday. Here are a few issues for your consideration and advice. His offer letter states his tuition is 10,000 pounds but has a 10% discount if he pays the entire fees upfrontHe has now paid 9,000 pounds and has the required 7,200 in his a/c for the required time periodHis CAS is showing he has paid 9,000 pounds out of the 10,000 leaving a balance of 1,000Do you think this 1,000 will be an issue considering he is perfectly entitled to the 10% discount, which amounts to the same 1,000?

Your brother enjoyed the 10% discount cos he paid the whole fee in full. He has nothing to worry about.
The CAS letter the school send to the embassy should mention that BUT tell ur brother to use the space provided in the application for more info to remind the BHC that he was given 10% cos he paid his fees in full.

Yeah I thought about that, but not sure how soon I'll get a job after I get the PSW visa, and it might harm my application as they would look at it like I came for studies in the UK and didn't go back to Nigeria after. I think I'll give it a shot now, I have a decent statement of account e.t.c, Thanks !

You stand a better chance with PSW than with 6months student visa, going to Nigeria after graduating here is not a must and u are definately not breaking any law by not going back.

Couple of yrs ago when i was living with my elder brother in Southern Africa, applied for USA visiting visa with my brother's wife and my sister inlaw who is 15 at the time, they were all given and i was refused a visa cos i just graduated from college then, i was asked to go back to Nigeria to apply. The same month i applied for UK visa and was given without any interview.

@muami, nice one, i wish i saw the link before submission. my own state ment on the other hand is sort of a mix. it shows a debit in my savings which is the fixed deposit, and the deposit also matured back into the savings in 30 days, thereby increasing the money at the closing balnce. do you think they will add both up? the fd of 1,296,000 + savings of 730,000 for the same period?abi mine is a lost case? justwise and evry guru out there, do i stand a chance?

This is not abt illegal immigrants, this is about SOME Nigerian criminals. Whites don't sweep crime under the carpet, pple are getting convicted for the crime committed more than 20yrs ago.

I ended up going to a University in England for my Masters, no I just handed in my dissertation, although my student visa runs till Jan 2011. I want to apply to US for holidays but I am worried I waited to long, and might be denied since I have handed in my dissertation already and also would be using hotel reservations e.t.c, I do have a solid statement of ACC. I have also gotten 2 Schengen visas during my one year which might help. Do you think I should go ahead or not bother with it. Thanks

Why not apply for Post-Study-Work permit first b4 going for USA visa, that will show stronger tie to the UK than student visa that will expire in 6months time.

@ Justwise & all--- kindly confirm to me if somebody with a student VISA can buy a one way ticket for his trip or not.

You can book one way ticket, some pple book for a year return. You can still change ur ticket though u will be charged administrative fee.

The embassy advised us that the documents he produced were faked and later we closed the apllication Since then he is now a Canadian citizen and holds a good job there. We have two kids together. We want to visit UK in Dec, will the immigration officers let him enter. we are going for a week

These are the documents my brother submitted: University certificate (no transcript), WAEC certificate, statement of account from GTB (deposited money on 5th July, printed it out on 2nd AUG) with a back up letter from the bank (he didn't credit nor debit the account b4 printing the statement), a copy of CAS statement & a strong personal statement.

This waitin period is killin me, but my trust in GOD dey sha! Nywaz, have a question-after readin thru your posts on pgs 25 - 27, wana kno if your broda submitted your bank statement along with urs so as 2 prove the source of the money within his acct. Askin this because i added that of my mum (and mine since the money is in my acct!) wen applyin 4 mine on the 11th, along with my birth certificate and a SPONSOR LETTER. Master card will be quicker but i don't know a particular bank in Nigerian that is more efficient.
