Tips For Birthing in the USA

1. If you do not have a visa, apply for a B1/B2 Medical visa. Go with evidence to show that you have a hospital, doctor and funds to cover accommodation, medical treatment and any other incidences. (This is popularly referred to as' Burden of proof' on this thread). You may go with the complete cash for your stay. This is preferable but not a must too prove you are capable of paying your bills and provide a smoother poe experience.
For more details , use the search button and follow the already highlighted step for search.
* Both successful and unsuccessful visa applicants have posted their transcripts. It will be of great benefit to you to go through the thread and learn. Nobody will repost for you again.

3.The decision on a choice of hospital is dependent on several factors. Cost of treatment I.e hospital, doctor's fees, epidural, NICU etc with cost of accommodation and Flight to your final destination .

Use the search button to search for locations visited and used by previous mothers. This is a Do it yourself thread and it is only courteous to search out info already freely posted for future users and not ask people to repost again.

4. At the POE, you are expected to go with your burden of proof and be well prepared to answer questions to avoid deportation. Note : It is not a crime to birth in the US. It is a crime however if you conceal this fact from your visa officer (VO) or Customs and Border Protection (CBP). This act is considered misrepresentation and can result in deportation and cancellation of visa and sometimes a ban.

5. After birthing. Kindly pay ALL your bills and ALL your baby/ies' bills. Do not accept medicaid. Although your Child acquires automatic citizenship, it is presumed you were not allowed on the shores of America to add to their financial/Tax burdens.

6. After birthing , you follow the steps for getting a US passport, Nigerian passport/Visa /Travel documents for your child.
If your child's travel document is his international passport, you require a dual way ticket.

EMERGENCY TRAVEL DOCUMENT (ETC)

1. Cost - $270 plus $20 for post office or $30 for FedEx

2. Send the following supporting documents:

- 2 passport photos of baby.
- Copy of parent's Nig. passports (data page)
- Birth certificate (copy)
- Itinerary and Letter of consent for ETC.

and address it to:
The Consular Officer, Embassy of Nigeria,
Washington DC 20008

You can use this Sample Letter but please edit it to make it yours

Dear Sir/Madam
We the parents of ...wish to apply for Emergency Travel Certificate for him/her to enable us take him to Nigeria. Due to logistics reasons we are unable to process a Nig passport at this time. Thank you for your assistance.
Yours truly, (sign and also write your full name. Spouse to sign too).

abujaniv:
Hello. We don’t normally post in this thread, but it seemed worthwhile to drop in and correct some misconceptions. We say this a lot, but it bears repeating: Birth tourism is legal in the US provided the applicant is open about their intention and pays the medical expenses in full. This means that the applicant should declare any such intention they have at the Embassy/Consulate and again at the port of entry.

If it happens that the applicant gets pregnant well after the initial visa interview, they will have the opportunity to make their intention, medical preparations and financial resources known at the POE. However, it will remain up to Customs and Border Patrol whether to allow that applicant into the country. Some are not, and they are put on the next flight home. This must be extremely uncomfortable for a heavily pregnant person, to spend 15-20 hours on a flight to America, several more hours being questioned, then another 15-20 hours on a plane home. This is what we want to avoid.

Onto some other misconceptions:
The concept of the “change of intent” letter is not valid. These e-mails are not read nor correlated with the applicant’s file. Some people who send such letters may get a form letter in response, but it is informational in nature and in no way confers permission to amend the declared purpose of travel. What matters is what you declare at the Embassy/Consulate and at the POE. After the fact e-mails do not carry any weight.

Some applicants say, “I applied for only the B2 visa to declare my medical intent.” The B1/B2 visa categories are conjoined, so applying for only one does not make any difference. Other applicants say, “I appeared at the window with a big belly,” as if this alone is enough to declare their medical intent. Again, the responsibility is on the applicant to be honest about what they plan to do in the US.

Other considerations:
Medical care is expensive in the US, and costs can escalate dramatically if there are complications.
Credibility is paramount in the US visa process. If visa officers detect any deception or obfuscation, no amount of excuses, documents or receipts will make up for the loss of credibility.

Thank you very much...

It's actually a one bedroom flat.

Please what are my chances with the one bedroom flat apartment or do i just do hotel reservation?

I was considering his one bedroom flat because of my account balance which is not too bogus and since there's a history of him sending me invite before.

Another option i can consider is to have my wife's elder brother who's also resident in London and married to a British Citizen (Though he is not yet a citizen) to send us invitation. They stay in a four bedroom flat in London with 3 kids.

What do you think sir? Sorry for the too many questions.
Bro there is no way one bedroom flat will be suitable for you and your wife, himself, his wife and two kids. Even if the room and the sitting room are the size of warehouse.

Look for alternative accommodation or hotel atlase for privacy seek

I haven't applied yet since the last refusal and i got married after the last refusal. I am seeking advice on how to package the new application.
I have answered that part already, the last part of your post contained the answer to that.

You have to do all you listed there when reapplying, there is no other way of packaging it that I can think of now.

Goody Gurus in the house,

I know we are all busy here but i will plead for you to take a little time out to go through my case as it is a complicated one i must say. I have always believe in life generally,we have to study the past for us to understand the present so we can know how to prepare for the future. This is the reason i will narrate everything from the beginning for your guys.I know it will be too long but pls bear with me as i need professional advices please.

I have have a brother who is now a british citizen and a sister who just become a residence of UK.I have been refused 4 times now for UK visas and all of them on different situations and circumstances. I was deny twice for student visas and refusal was caused by little errors from my end and it happened 2002 and 2010, then i was deny 2014 ( this one is the most painful part of it all because i used one stupid and foolish agent for the application which was out of ignorance and i was misinformed). The 2014 application was for karate competition, agents and their story lines and because I didn’t knew there were forums like these with reasonable human beings. I did the application with my wife ( then my fiancé ) and we were both deny and the reason was economic crises because it was during that Ebola time. We didn’t see the forms filled to know what the agent wrote for us neither did we see the refusal letters ( i know i messed up but knowledge they say,is power and thats why am here to get advices and knowledge ).

To cut long story short,i have been working in UAE since 2014 ( after the 3rd visa refusal, the agent own ) and i have travelled Kenya, south africa,Turkey, Italy and Spain ( all these visas i got in dubai based on my residence there ). I then applied for UK again from Dubai and i was refused, the last refusal letter stated the reasons for my refusal and i felt like going to look for that agent again to beat him up hahahahah… These agents can be so useless ! I have attached the last refusal letter to this post and don’t laugh on the salary part because the agent finished me hahahaha.

Anyway the way forward now is this, I have counter most of their reasons for the last refusal as i am now married,I have been working in the UAE for almost 2years now,I now receive 7000aed, my wife is a UAE resident too and we both has been to Italy and Paris last month and i intend applying from my home country next. My wife has a friend who is a doctor and a British citizen, she just got married this month and wanted to invite us to come over for the wedding but work didn’t permit me,she is suggesting that we come over for christmas and she will be inviting us but she is suggesting one of her agent to package the application for us but i AM SERIOUSLY REFUSING AND WOULD not AGREE because ALL my visa application was done by myself for myself so i can defend whatever information is there.

Please how do i package this application ? I intend using my salary bank account statement from UAE and also my tenancy agreement there,my land document in Nigeria, letter from my employer that am going on the trip and additional documents. I am thinking of drafting a letter to confess my sins on my previous bad application ( the agent own ) hahahahahah.. Is this an ideal thing to do? Is there a format for such letter? Will it be better to go with the invitation from my wife’s friend or it is more better to apply like a tourist?

Thanks for your time because i know how it is reading this long story that touch hahahahah…
You are lucky not to have been banned by now considering your application history.

You never mentioned in any of your current applications that you are married as the ECO stated on the last part that you are single.

You can do all you stated in your application when reapplying again and hope for the best.

Thank you very much @Justwise for your speedy response.

The transport is that high because of my cousins place which is in Southampton. I will bring it down as advised. but do you think everyother detail is ok?

He advised I should apply for 2 years Visa since i had visited him before in March 2011, while my wife can do 6 months. I don't know if they wont consider that too long ago for renewal.

He's a british citizen but i think he stays in a one bed apartment. He has a wife and 2 kids. However, he believes accommodation is ok even though i am applying with my wife. Wont they have issues with that?

what do you think?
Reduce your transport to £100, cost of transport in Southampton is not that expensive.

Yes you can apply for 2yrs and your wife 6months.

Definitely one bedroom apartment will not take all of you, that is impossible

@Lexusgs 430, @portsmouth86, @justwise, @newbie715, @light me and others. Thanks a million you guys for your gratifying response and gratuitous work. I work for state Government for a decade and half. QUESTION 1: What can I do? @justwise
Please now that our lawyers have misled us, and we are subjected to appeals, which is an emotional torture roller-coaster, next month November it will be exactly one year since our appeals are lying fallow at the HM courts and Tribunal without any hearing date fixed!!!
QUESTION2:The question is can I reapply now? Will it not be too late if I reapply now taking into consideration the infantile reasons the HO/ECO sometimes put up to delay one's application 3-6months. (My application spent 6months, and they still refused me!!!)
What is the best approach? Can I wait till hearing is fixed? or I should not mind, should just put in fresh application? and they will not refuse me looking for other excuses aside from the genuine relationship they claimed in the first application? I put in a lot of contacts ('...add loads of evidence of contacts between you, especially if refusal is about genuine subsisting relationship...') as suggested on this forum; to refute their claim but they still stick to their guns to hold on to their cruel decision in spite of the MP intervention.
QUESTION 3: Does AIT allocate hearing dates based on fairness? what are the likely yardsticks unlike the HO/ECO (individuals are treated on their own merits). or NIGERIANS APPLICANTS/APPELLANTS ARE TREATED DIFFERENTLY AND DISCRIMINATED AGAINST TO OUR COUNTERPARTS IN OTHER CLIMEShuh OR WE SHOULD BE EXPECTING HEARING DATE SOON NO NEED REAPPLYING? Pls, I am confused.

PLEASE MORE ENLIGHTENMENT/ANSWERS WILL BE MOST APPRECIATED IN THESE ALL THREE QUESTIONS. THANKS A LOT SIRS/MAS in this harrowing period!!!
You need to keep an open mind about this and not to see it as bias against Nigerians, it's definitely frustrating but you are not the only one in this position and I doubt that they are deliberately targeting Nigerians.

Do you mind stating word to word why the initial application was refused or blank personal details and paste the refusal letter? Let's see changes you need to make if you want to reapply.

Yes it will if they spotted that out either during visa processing or at the POE

Hi Justwise. I am a medical doctor currently having her compulsory one year internship in a hospital in Lagos. I want to renew my U.K. Visa in a week or 2 and I've filled out my online application form but I'm yet to submit because I want few clarifications which are;
1. I want to apply for 2 years now (last visa was 6 months and in 2013) but I stated in my application that I will spend 12 days for holiday. Is 2 years too much?
2. I lent someone 400,000 naira earlier in the year and she ended up paying the money in bits of 100,000 with the last payment being yesterday. I have just one account which is also my salary account. Do I have to explain to the U.K. Embassy about these transactions? Problem is, the person didn't pay in her name. She sent like 3 different people to pay the money to me. Should I explain this to them?
3. I do not have an official letter that says I'm going on leave from my hospital however I've got a letter which stated that I am an employee of the hospital and I'd like to travel to Manchester between x and y periods. Is this enough?
4. My brother, who works and lives in the U.K., is my co-sponsor and host. In the application, I mentioned he would be housing and paying for my air transport which was estimated to be about £900 and that I have £600 personally to pay towards my holiday making total money £1500. Is this fine? Presently, I've got slightly over 800,000 naira in my account and my brother has about £4000 in his'. Please, is the money distribution okay?
5. I understand I have to put in 6 months pay slips but some of my pay slips cannot be found- those of July and August. Can I put earlier payslips in place of these?
6. Finally, if I want an appointment for 2nd week in November, how soon should I submit my online application?
Thank you so much in anticipation.
1. No 2yrs is not too much.

2. All you have to do is to explain that in your application form it doesn't matter if the person paid all at once or by instalment.

3. You definitely need an official letter allowing you to travel

4. Is not really about money distribution, you need an IV, bank statement and tenancy agreement from your brother

5. Ask your company to reissue you those missing payslips

6. I really don't know how quick the appointment thing works

My monthly salary is 150k, twice of which am sure will not be enough for my budget. But I have a company jointly owned, salary not being paid yet. How do I get the company involved so as to boost my financial circumstances. The purpose of the trip is to write a professional exam, meaning that I will not be spending more than 5 days in the UK.
What is the net income from the company?

I really appreciate what you guys do here...Nice job.

Please i need an assistance also.

I intend travelling to the UK with my wife in March/April next year and wish to apply for Visa in November to allow for the mandatory 3 months lapse.

My Cousin is accomodating us in Southy. He accommodated and sponsored my trip in 2011 when i visited him and stayed about a month in the UK. I was single then. I had earlier been denied the visa but appealed and won before travelling then.

I currently earn 418K monthly and been working for 9 years. My wife is a medical practitioner and earns 130K monthly and have been working for a year now. she has no travel history.

I intend sponsoring the trip but here's the confusion.

I recently got a transfer of N500k into my account being refund of money owed me. I have an investment of N1.4M running which i want to liquidate prematurely so that the balance will reflect in my account balance. I will therefore be having about 1.9M when i print from April till date.

we have 2 kids below age 3 who are not travelling with us.

my budget for the 7-day trip is £2,200

Flight fare for 2: £1,100
Transportation: £400
Shopping: £700

Conversion on oanda puts that at about 860K.

please what are my chances and what do you advise i modify.
Why do you budgeted £400 for transport only for 7days?

Shopping budget is also high, even if you are going to spend that much you need to keep cost down

hi, i don't know i can relate and would like some advice and help if possible. I am 26 years old female married to a Zimbabwean man, we have 2 kids age 5 and 4. i have been so unhappy lately and just confused as to what i need to do. My husband and i have been together for 8 years, i have been solely responsible for bills most of the time, he flirts with girls even in front of me, he doesn't care what i feel. i have caught him out talking to a woman when i received a huge phone bill. i called the network and asked to get the calls, i found same number, i put it on my phone its a female who happened to know my number. she would never respond to me, she always hides but she always picks up when she calls. his excuse is nothing is going on and that her fiance will be right next to her when they talk ( yeah right.... i dont believe that because most calls were done late nights when im doing night shifts to provide for family and during the day when im not around). what strikes me the most is that i have come to believe that the family and him had it all planned out to use me and leave me destroyed. we had an argument and i was going to leave and he called his brother and they talked for ages about their papers and citizenship documents. i was 18 and he was older than me. i had no one and i now believe he manipulated me as he was my first boyfriend. He has 2.5 years right to remain and has to renew for 10 years. he has renewed it twice. i think he is involved with that woman and are both using me including his family.

My plan now is to get a divorce, leave him, make him pay for child support, child care and leave him to prove to UKBA ways he is supporting the kids. send all the divorce papers to UKBA, send proof that i have been caring for our children even though he was living with us, send the phone calls and conversations he had with this woman.

he got his papers because of us, previously he was refused 3x.

I am so fed up right now, i am prepared to face any consequences. my question is am i being to harsh and if there is anything else i can do.
If everything you said here are true then your action is not hash.

BB Bbken asked the question as follows in previous posts: 'Justwise and all gurus in the house please help me out

I was refused my settlement Visa in March, went on appeal in April and the court has written us that the will get back to us on 28 August, but i work for a government establishment and I was nominated to attend a pre workshop in May which I did and the certificate was given which am supposed to use for the international workshop application coming up on 17th August in the UK. For the workshop am expected to pay for my hotel fee and the workshop fee.

My question is

Can I apply for the workshop while my appeal is till on or will they be another refusal due to the fact that I was refused settlement in March even though I have been to the UK before on visit.

Will i still mention my husband in the workshop application?

What documents do I need for this application?

Please I need guidance and advice, thank you
it's a federal government establishment and even when the approve for you to go, you'll have to sponsor your self and after Ward's get back your money due the one account stuff President Buhari introduced, my HOD said he is recommending me for it if I can foot the bill for now. He will give a covering letter to that effect..

NOBODY RESPONDED TO HIS INQUIRY!!! ON THIS FORUM, EACH PERSON TRAUMA/AGONY IS DIFFERENT!!! WE JUST NEED TO SYMPATHETICALLY/EMPATHETICALLY ASSIST ONE ANOTHER

I have a conference to attend in Scotland late November to be sponsored by my employer, definitely it will give me opportunity to visit my family as well. Am I going to be refused? HAS ANYBODY DONE THIS? if possible, how can I convince the HO/ECO?
URGENT ADVICE WILL BE MOST APPRECIATED!!! THANKS

Thanks so much for asking Justwise.

I think the first page of part 4 was well written and very clear. However I have a few suggestions.

1. Maybe we should add this link showing the steps for getting a US passport for children less than 16years.

https://travel.state.gov/content/passports/en/passports/under-16.html

Also on the passport issue, people should know they can apply for it without the baby's SSN as this is also a recurring question (I'm not sure if this should be part of the front page)

2. I like that you mentioned the fact that this is a DIY thread (number 3)... Maybe we should Bolden that fact for emphasis because people just come and ask the questions they could have just searched out.

Thanks JW and everyone who has contributed actively to this thread.
Thanks for your suggestion..will consider that

It doesn't work that way, what you have now is 5months bank statement even if you submit your application next year.

When I was planning my Canadian Study about 7 years ago, I always wondered if I would ever get enough information to make a decision or to know what to expect from Canada visa requirements. My major unanswered questions were surrounding the part where I would have to deal with the visa processing.
I appreciate Nairaland's "Travelling to Canada" topic for giving me information enough to know what to expect about visa processing delays, people sharing reasons why they were denied, people sharing individual visa case-specific timeline and many more information of value.
Unfortunately this advantage, in my opinion, is seeping away as this very helpful Nairaland topic grows bigger;
Its funny that you got your study permit on Dec 14, 2011 through this thread but never came back here to help since then

This is one of the biggest probs in this section people disappeared the moment they got what they want and suddenly become supper busy to help others with any little info.
