Shawbabe: Smh. Justwise see as u just let our precious thread turn to Exchange rate thread. During our own time we dare not derail the thread. Coming now to read more than 10 pages of Gtb vs. Stanbic......it's a waste of time to us who born in the 165 =$1 era and are concerned about cheap hospitals for next project. We no care about 230 or 290 per $1. Another thread should be opened for best naija bank for PTA. Shawbabe is right... @All This exchange rates debate is derailing this thread, you can have such discussion in business section, please enough. |

Missdodo: Dear Molly14,
Justwise and co have done a good job in answering your questions but i'm going to restate what has been said but maybe in a 'simpler' grammar:
1. There is a guidance for visa issuance that the ECO follows and this guidance contains different templates for refusal based on various reasons such as travel history, economic circumstance, home ties, source of funds e.t.c. that's why sometimes, it appears like a case has not been individually assessed ...
2. The ECO is watching out for 3 major things and in no particular order they are: A) Travel History - This shows your level of compliance with immigration laws in other countries. The idea is most probably that if you have a track record of compliance, then you will return home. B) Amount available for the trip - As stated by Justwise et al, each application is assessed on its own merit. Your available cash (not savings account or fixed deposit) to the ECO is what you can access on the go without having to go through a process. i'm guessing from my banking knowledge that having a current or checking account reduces your risk profile and increases your credit rating and as such the ECO may be more likely to focus on your current account where you have submitted both current and savings. Bottom line is they don't want you partaking in UK tax payers money. C) Source of income - The ECO must somehow be convinced that your source of income is so reliable/steady that you have no need to remain in the UK. Its not enough to just earn a salary, it must be a 'decent' salary. So getting N75k monthly is not a bad thing, it only becomes a problem when 75k is all you receive (from all sources) and you naturally have expenses. you need to deduct your expense from your income for you to access your own chances of success for a UK visa.
3. Always remember that you need to convince the ECO about your 'thriving' circumstances in Nigeria. Always always attach documents. I appreciate your contribution |

molly14: Thank u, I don't know f u saw the refusal letter I posted. The ECO stated that he saw all the earnings from my husband but howvere some money in his "statements" are more. He assumed that of all the 4 statements we submitted, 3 is for my husband and was wondering how he had other accounts wit money like that, but my husband submitted only 1 statement, the remaing 3 are for me and our baby. On his own letter, the ECO wrote I note that u submitted a number of personal statement, which is false he submitted 1, on my own he said I note that u submitted "A STATEMENT" that has 56k, false again, I submitted 2 statements, the 1 with 56k is my salary account, the other is my savings account that I have built up over time and has 1.1m in t, besides this, we explained all the source of the money in that my savings account on the cover letter and additional info and added proof of the money. The ECO just assumed that the whole 3 statement is for my husband. I don't know if u now understand the picture. Please take your time and go through that refusal letter again...money found in his account is not inline with his declared salary and there is no supporting document to explain the source of that money, again the focus is on your salary account and the bank statement submitted by your hubby has some unexplained transfers. On the economy side of the argument which the ECO considered as well...you earn 59k a month and might have saved for many years to have a million in your account...spending a good chunk of that savings in just few weeks in the UK on holiday makes no economic sense. |

kaverd: @Justwise, i have a problem,i applied for a uk visit visa this year and was refused entry into the country.now when i was filling out the forms i used my step fathers name and details when filling the forms though i explained why i did that on the form..but i have my biological fathers name on my passport because i used my birth certificate for it.truth be told i do not know my fathers DOB and hometown.so i want to ask if i can use my biological fathers name and assume his DOB and hometown or i should always use my step fathers when applying again and if i will not worry me much in future applications..and if the UKBA saves data about applicants or whether this is important..
Your advice is greatly need..Thanks and counting on your usual correspondence.God bless you Why were you refused the first application? |

molly14: Hubby's employers. Doesn't the total sum for the year count on the long run? The allowances r still ur earnings n u get them as part of ur income They focus on your own salary and not necessarily that of your husband, you will find it difficult to explain the issue of allowance because the difference between your hubby's salary and allowances is huge |

Beezus: salary is 108k. i mentioned in the additional information section that i receive commissions as well although it varies. actually i thot the question meant how much i could afford to spend for the trip Then to spend £1,400 in few weeks on that salary is just over the top, that did not help your application at all |

molly14: My take home is 59k, hubby 177k, however, allowances are about 1.6m paid as two times ayear asides other allowances. Totalling 4.5m per year. For d whole package.
@justwise, I attached d refusal letter early, mayb u can see it, f ts not too much trouble to go thru later post That is the issue here, you both earn 236K combined in a month, that is about £700, that aside...who pays the allowance? |

Also d commission aspect, will they consider that if i mention it under d part they ask if i have any other addition income? or where do u think i should include it? You did not mention how you earn in a month to be able to spend that much in a few week in the UK |

House, pls wht do you advise I do now. I hvnt heard from the VO since I submitted. The intended date of travel is Aug 2nd, dis Sunday, I hv booked a hotel as well. Now, I can see dat dis Sunday won't be feasible, it's 3 days away and I hvnt even gotten my visa. The hotel's policy is 48hours to be given for cancellation, and if cancelled later the whole fee will be charged. Pls shud I call the hotel to change the dates or what? I don't want to lose money jus like that.
If I change dates and the ECO is yet to confirm from the hotel mgt, what will happen if the ECO is told I pushed my dates ahead?
Has anyone been in my shoes? I need an urgent response pls, am about to call the hotel Cancel and rebook if the visa comes out. |

BrainyBell: Respected forum members,
Please, what is the correct interpretation of: How much do you have for your trip? Does it mean, the total amount I want to SPEND for my trip OR the amount I have in my BANK ACCOUNT, and from which I will spend for the trip.
Lastly, must the amount I HAVE for the trip be the same balance on my bank statement or can it be different? For example, can I say I have 1 Million for the trip, but show 2 Million on my bank statement instead? Does this make any sense, please.
Kind regards.... That simply means....how much will you be leaving Nigeria with to the UK. What is the cost of the trip to you...that is the combination of flight, accommodation, feeding etc. This is why its important to write down the budget of the trip and attach it to your application |
Travel › Re: General UK Visa Enquiries - Part 2 by justwise(mod): 10:07pm On Jul 30, 2015 |
BrainyBell: Dear all,
Please, kindly assist.
I applied for a UK visa and I was denied with the reason in the attached screenshot below. I planned visiting the UK for only two weeks and my sponsor would be responsible for my accommodation. Upon reviewing the application I submitted, I observed an error in the ECO's decision, which was even unclear as to the real reason behind my denial - too much funds for the trip or insufficient funds?
On the form, I had stated that I had 2,078 Pounds as AVAILABLE for my trip, but only intended spending 1,100 Pounds, which is the COST of the trip to me ( broken down into 700 pounds for flight fares, and 400 pounds for shopping et al). Beyond this balance on my salary account, I also separately attached a fixed deposit certificate which had a balance of 450K.
In denying me, the ECO said I stated 2,078 pounds as the COST of my trip, which is FALSE! It was further stated that I don't have sufficient funds when indeed my salary account showed 650K balance and my fixed deposit account had 450K, totaling 1.1M.
I have decided to reapply instantly and attach a written statement to this, since the basis of denial is so flimsy! However, before I do, what do I need to amend?
Please, kindly drop your comments.
Regards. How much is your actual salary? |

molly14: Good day all, I finally applied o, and got refusal 2day. Explained all sources of funds for my husband and I and still got a refusal based on financial reasons. That I have limited funds in my account, I added my salary account and my savings account, however, it is only the amount in my salary account that was mentioned, they didn't mention it's as if they didn't see my savings account, we also wrote a cover letter to explain all the funds in my husband's account, adding evidence of all the money, and ironically, we were refused because, they didn't see explanation of the money and that's the only reason. Please what else can I do, I dunno if we should reapply, don't know if we would have chances of getting the Visa How much is your take home salary and how much did you budget for the trip? |

SweetOlive: Hi Justwise and other gurus in the house,
I appreciate your good works here. I have been a guest for some time now, so I have decided to register and ask my own question as it were.
I intend visiting my cousin in the UK for the first time(no travel history), he works with the British Army(still serving). He wants to send me Letter of invite, with other required documents and he'll be taking care of my accommodation, and feeding.
- I will be responsible for my Flight Ticket and Shopping ONLY.
- I have a current account which also serve as my salary account with a Balance of 700k (No lump Sum).
- My monthly take home is 65,000
What chances do I have in getting a Visa?
Thank you
CC: worry357 Very low, ticket alone will take more than 4months of your take home salary and that will be an issue |

Is is possible to sponsor my mom to the UK even though I live in America and she's in Nigeria?
Also will sponsoring her affect me if I'm also visiting at the same time. Although I don't need a visa but I've been told to go with documents needed just like I'm applying for a visa
Lastly, how much is required considering I'm also sponsoring myself? Will that be total estimated amount for the trip?
Thanks bro Sure you can, nothing wrong with that and you can also visit while she is there |

nunaija: Hello good people. I just found out about this thread. You suggestions would be highly appreciated. I applied for a student visitor visa in February and was denied. Reasons: I only included my savings account and not my salary account which shows my monthly salary of 250k. Due to lack of experience I also got the "How much do you have for this trip?" question wrong... I mentioned all I had in my account...was confused I booked for a hotel for 1 week I included my payslips for 6 months with the savings account(970k balance). All other documents were included. I am married and my monthly take home is 240k excluding project bonus which varies. The course I'm going for is just 1 week and I stated this in my application. I was able to defer the training programme to October and I want to reapply for the visa. Kindly advice on what I should do differently this time. That is the mistake you need to correct now, you need to add both accounts though |

the documents submitted were 6 months bank statements letter of employment, cover letter and leave letter from my office my property papers hotel reservations itinerary of travel flight reservation
i don't know if i should reapply or write a letter to them please which way will be feasible. Also they did not return my bank statement don't know why. You can reapply providing evidence of the money sent to you by your fiance and explanation for the large lodgement mentioned in refusal letter. Also you need to complain about the mentioning of Pakistan in your application because that error might have influenced ECO's decision. |

Since they stated I did not provide enough proof to corroborate the western union deposits. Besides i don't know why they think am in Pakistan when it's clearly stated am applying from Nigeria and also working in Nigeria. Pls advice me if to go ahead and reapply.
I refused your apprication for a visit visa because I am not satisfied that you meet the requirements of paragraphs v4.2 - v4.10 of Appendix V. Immigration Rules for Visitor visa 1. You have applied to visit the united Kingdom for 5 days. you have stated on your visa application form that you are employed by -xxxxxxx Nig Ltd and earn PKR 160, 000 (£511)per month and that you are paying for you trip to thtuK yourself.

I acknowledge that you have stated that your receive money from your fiance, but without further evidence to corrobrate this I cannot be satisfied where the additional money in your account has come from. This is relevant, as unambiguous evidence of your employment, pattern of income or means of support is required to access your situation in Pakistan provides you with an intention to leave the United Kingdom at the end of a short visit. Therefore, I am not satisfied.that you are genuinely seeking entry as a visitor for a limited period as.stated by you, that you intend to reave the uK; at the end of your proposed visit, the sufficient funds to cover all reasonabre costs in relation to your visit without working or accessing public funds. This includes cost of return or onward journey and any dependant costs or costs of planned activities as required by appendix V 4 1. List those documents you submitted. 2.
