shooqueen: Hi all, I would like to share our story with you back in June 2012 my husband was refused a visa as the spouse of a UK citizen one of the reasons was his fingerprints had been mixed up with another person who was looking for a visa at the same time (this person had a conviction against his name) and must also have had my husband’s fingerprints attributed to him. Trying to convince people this had happened was virtually impossible, I approached everyone I could think of including my local member of parliament who helped me get a letter to the right department of the home office. It was a couple of months before the home office agreed there had been a mix up. We were told that we could, when called by the embassy in Abuja, re-submit the paperwork for the visa. Once again my husband’s refusal was upheld as they did not believe our relationship was subsisting, the decision had already been made before we sent the new evidence in. We tried the EU Irish rout but that was not as strait forward as we first thought (and a whole story on its own). We submitted the appeal in august 2012, we did not hear back from the home office until January 2013 with a date for the tribunal. It was set for the 4th of April 2013. Getting a new bundle together took weeks everything was scanned, printed copied, dated and meticulously indexed I left nothing to chance. We decided against a solicitor, I represented my husband, we decided as long as we told the truth and gave all the relevant information and proved everything my husband would be granted a visa, Our bundle was over 300 pages and in the determination from the judge he praised how organised I was he was also moved by the fact each of my close family members wrote statements about my husband and I together. To prepare for our case I went to the courts to watch a similar case the week before our case was due to be heard to see how the system worked and how to best address everyone it was very informative. The day our case was heard was one of the longest in my life our case was heard last and lasted almost an hour and 20 minutes of being asked questions by the judge and then cross examined by the home office representative. It was 5 weeks before the judge made a decision in our favour. My husband flew back from Nigeria in July 2 years ago. This week he has just received his ILR. The most important piece of information I would give to anyone is get as much evidence that your relationship is subsisting. Photos, tickets from events you both attended proof of telephone calls between yourselves over the time of your relationship every little piece of evidence you have and DATE IT ON THE FRONT, embassy staff don’t turn things over to look for dates. Don’t be tempted to forge anything where you have gaps write why there is a gap, index and date everything I can’t say it enough, an extra 2 or 3 weeks getting all your proof together could save you 18 months of being apart. I wish you all good luck. I remembered your case..God! It's ages now...glad that it worked out at the end. That must be very stressful experience. Congratulations! |

TheBae: I'm not sure the university cares about how much you spend on trv, they've given you admission. I'm not sure they care about how much time you waste trying to get visa, afterall in other countries, visa processing doesn't take so long. A country that's so developed should/will have quotas for every/anything especially when it comes to immigrants. Remember as a student, you're going as a TR, meaning that makes you a resident. It makes sense that Canada may have a quota for Temporary Residents just as they have one for Permanent Residents. Also, he didn't say everyone else will be denied, he only said it'll be way stricter which we can already see playing out. Even if they didn't have a quota before, with the way we Nigerians and even Asians are bombarding them with applications, they may have just developed one just to control the heavy influx. We're all just speculating, and someone who has a contact there has partially verified this argument so I think that is valid until we hear something else from a higher authority. I don't think anyone would make up such info. I stand to be corrected. Schools definitely care because foreign students is their cash machine, how will they survive if they have empty classes, empty student accommodations but still have to pay lecturers who would have lectured those students? Do you think they are running charity organisation? Of course people make up these rumours sometimes and when it turns out to be false you don't see them logging on here frequently. |

Rolatims: Bro them go give peeps ...but them go just limit it....and quota I was talking about na for peeps Wey Dey come for fall semester... personally I no knw anything about quota or nay ...just Dey give peeps information... If there is a quota it will come from the schools limiting the number of foreign students to be admitted in a year and they will not issue admission when the number is reached. It makes no sense that the school will give admission to a prospective student knowing fully well that the student chances of getting a visa is almost nonexistent. Not only that...the student will waste time and money applying for TRV that he or she is unlikely to get. |

favour0011: no... not till next yr. if u re applying for jan 2016 this month. den you have a better chance. besides he didnt say they stopped issuing visas to fall applicants. just that the quota is reaching its threshold, hence the need for more stringency. lets get that right!!! Get what right exactly? This unconfirmed rumour has played out here before when some people were refused in quick sequence but just after than many still get their TRVs then the rumour dies down again. |

pet01: There is no explanation giving from them, they just stated it as a likely reason for visa refusal. Although I have red on this platform of people that submitted 2 account statements and were successful. Meanwhile I have sent an e-mail to UK embassy via there website to give me a clarification on that. Hope to update u guys when they respond. If those two bank statements met the 28days requirement and contained the required amount then you got nothing to worry about. |

shelly23: Some people have come out to say they used medicaid, I guess they weren't ashamed.
It's a pretty delicate situation like someone else mentioned, but the truth is that by using it, we're taking advantage of the system, no need to try justifying it.
I was fortunate not to use it for my baby, but not everyone can raise extra money when the bills start piling.
May God help us all. Well they need to be ashamed of themselves especially those who made no arrangement to pay back later. |

Amother4life: You mean the hospitals in Nigeria that want cash deposits before they even attend to you? There is no hospital anywhere in Nigeria that would attend to any foreigner without adequate deposit to cover the cost of treatment . Let's stop openly encouraging people to abuse a system we have the privilege to use So others can also have access in future. It's because of abuses like these that the UK and Ireland erected road blocks to automatic citizenship by birth. Let's keep these activities strictly through private chats. There Was a POE encounter with a CBP officer referencing Nairaland during POE. It would definitely not add to our "good" reputation as a country to be openly enouranging illegality on an open forum . OP: Please, workout a payment plan to offset whatever bill you get . It doesn't matter how long it takes to pay off but try and do the right thing . It's a WWJD moment. Whether openly or secretly my point is that it's morally and ethically wrong. We are abusing the privilege, we are reaping where we did not sow. It's totally unfair. |

FinanceFitness: I think the unusual silence is more from an empathetic and compassionate stand point. I didn't use Medicaid the last time and by God's grace, I will not in future as well.
It's really a rough patch to go through with a newborn being ill and all, so people don't want to worsen the situation.
This is my opinion though. That makes sense |

The 'bad' experiences at the POE will continue if some people keep abusing the system. |

VisaOfficer: I just realized that this piece of news may have been somewhat startling. I mentioned a while back that my tour is drawing to an end but that was several pages ago, so it's probably a good time to explain.
After three wonderful years here, it will soon be time for me to sadly move on to my next tour, a couple weeks from now. But I'll stay on Nairaland until my successor has arrived and settled in. This does mean that I won't be able to log on every day, and that questions about specific cases will all be directed to LagosIV@state.gov because I'll have no way of looking into them -- but I'll be glad to keep answering inquiries that don't require me to be physically present.
Let's continue the thread as usual for now (except that my attendance will become somewhat intermittent) and I will say a proper goodbye to everyone when it's actually time to say goodbye. In the meantime, back to work, everybody! All will be well. Very kind of you. |

MataHariSez: Hello All,
I've noticed (over the past few years browsing through Nairaland) that posters repeat queries that have already been attended to by other well-meaning folk on the thread. I would like to suggest a simple way to avoid frustration for those who need immediate answers and those who have done their best to provide the same answer on numerous occasions. If you have an issue, just type out your question on google and add "nairaland" immediately after your query. You are immediately given links on Nairaland that pertain to your particular issue and are taken directly to a page that concerns you. No need to wade through hundreds of pages. Hope this helps!
I would like to use this opportunity to appreciate Justwise, Vicjustice and others. I have referred to Nairaland on numerous occasions in the past. Sometimes for entertainment, sometimes for knowledge. Vicjustice, your acerbic wit takes some getting used to but you have been a constant over the years and that sure counts for something. Justwise, you do not lose your temper--at least on site--and you remain a fair, yet sound, voice of reason. Cheers! Thanks for your observation..... though many people will not even bother reading a page back let alone use google search. Thanks for your comment anyway...appreciated. |

mamateniola1: @Justwise @all, pls attend to this question by a poster here. I am in a similar situation. thanks. here goes the question.: Hello, pls I realised that the UK visa application site has totally changedw I applied once in 2013 tho denied I want to apply again. My questions are. I typed in UK visa application and it brought out GOV.UK.Am I in d right site? It required I registered beforr filling form.
2. I have a visa to France but I want to visit the UK for about 5 days from France, do I fill in transit or normal visitor's visa like am actually going from Lagos?
3. Does it require physical interview now like US or we just drop our documents as usual?
4. I read that we book appointment, this is kinda strange to me. 5. I read also that if I choose ikeja application centre, I will pay extra fee.
6. How much in particular is application fee now? I saw extra 18k to be paid at application centre.
Please, pardon me for my numerous questions. God bless yu as yu answer 1. Yes you are. 2. Normal visitor's visa like am actually going from Lagos? 3. You will be given an appointment date when you will visit the visa center to submit the same set of documents and application form you submitted online and do biometric, they can also call you in for an interview the same day. 4. Yes you book appointment after the online application 5. I read that here but i got no info about it. The info is about 3-4 pages back in this thread and you can also find the amount in the same application form. |
