RiceProducers:Russian systems have always been 100% local since 2014. I wonder how you're arguing with an OEM. Do you work for Sukhoi Design Bureau? Does Russia build military equipment using US dollars? What's your rational to doubt Rostec? |
RiceProducers:There are significant offsets, this aircraft is only rated at 8 Gs, already developed tech from the SU-57 and SU-35 would be integrated reducing production cost including other benefits. |
RiceProducers:On the contrary, I'm a big fan of the JF-17, and I think it's an excellent aircraft, well suited for Nigeria's current security challenges. However I don't think the JF-17 is an aircraft for the future, as you know aircrafts are supposed to last a minimum of 30 years in service. Threats would change in that time, and I don't think the JF-17 is the ideal aircraft to deal with that threat. I'm proposing that we cease on any further purchases of the JF-17, invest in a capable LIFT aircraft, the M346 is ideal, we do not need the FA, as this would mean additional costs. Purchase another batch of 12 Tucanos. Increase our Attack helicopter and MI-17 numbers. Invest in tactical transport aircrafts as the C-130s are old. In a couple years time the SU-75 would be mature(in the event it goes into full production), purchase that instead. |
RiceProducers:I would suggest we buy additional Tucanos, a squadron of LIFT, forget about the JF-17 and go instead for the SU75 checkmate in the future. |
RiceProducers:All Super Tucanos are delivered this way. The Philippines and Afghans all had Thiers ferried. No Tucano has been delivered in an aircraft. |

Nemesis4you:Sukhoi says it's a 5th Gen aircraft, however the cost is quite unrealistic. It's target at South-American, African and South Asian clients. Apparently the Russian MoD would buy them too. |

NTSA:If this aircraft doesn't have an IWB, then it's a significant loss. The design looks very aerodynamic too. Quite a number of countries have developed tech to beat stealthy planes, which was bound to happen anyway. I think there's a type of attack aircraft to cover all requirements. There's a huge market for this sort of aircraft, but we'll have to wait and see what the official unveiling would bring. |
Nemesis4you:This makes sense. |
Nemesis4you:This is a mock-up though. We don't know yet if the Russian Air Force would be interested. |
Xbee007:Yea, it is gratifying to see. I also thank God this guy made it. He's very popular within military enthusiasts community. I know I've followed him since his time in America. |
iblawi:I would say stealth, super cruise, data analysis and fusion along this line. |
Nemesis4you:I agree with what you've said. What's IWB? |
Nemesis4you:I think we would first look at the globally accepted parameter which is used to classify 5th Gen. Then we can measure if this aircraft fits into the bill or not. |
jteku:The SU-57 is built to withstand such a landing. |
Xbee007:I agree with this. |
Quitam:I hope the pilot(s) is alive. However we need to completely replace all our Alpha Jet fleet. I just hope is the Alpha jet too. |
What an impressive flight performance

NAF WINGS 6 NEW HELICOPTER PILOTS, ASSURES OF SUSTAINED AIR POWER DELIVERY Operational manpower development in the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) received a boost today, 16 July 2021, when the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Oladayo Amao winged another set of 6 helicopter pilots who recently completed their basic flying training at Draken Helicopter Academy in the United Kingdom. In his remark during the winging ceremony, Air Marshal Amao reiterated the importance of the human factor as the most critical airpower component that must be enhanced and sustained for effective and efficient performance. This, according to the CAS, gave reason for the increase in manpower development witnessed in the NAF in recent times. He went on to state that these efforts are expected to place the Service in a dominant position to deliver on its constitutional role more effectively, especially in the light of NAF’s involvement in several internal security operations across the country. The overall effect of these efforts, according to the CAS, is that the NAF, operating in synergy with sister Services and other security agencies, will be better positioned to more effectively counter both domestic and foreign threats to the nation’s security and the wellbeing of our people. Speaking further, Air Marshal Amao revealed that the NAF currently has a total of 195 officers and airmen/airwomen undergoing various training courses abroad cutting across several specialties and trades. He also stated that locally, there are 12 student pilots undergoing Basic Fighter Training at 403 Flying Training School, Kano, while 10 others are undergoing Basic Transport Training at 401 Flying Training School, Kaduna. He emphasized that these courses are aimed at maintaining combat readiness by increasing the number of pilots to man existing aircraft, including the 26 new platforms acquired by the Federal Government in the past 6 years. On the A-29 Super Tucano aircraft, the CAS stated that about 60 NAF personnel, comprising pilots, engineers, technicians, and other specialists, have completed their training on the aircraft in the USA. While encouraging the newly winged pilots, the CAS urged them not to rest on their oars as the feat they have achieved also comes with a burden of responsibility as so much is expected of them. He also advised them to continue to give their best to the Service and the Nation. Air Marshal Amao also used the opportunity of the ceremony to appreciate President Muhammadu Buhari for his unflinching support to the NAF. Earlier, the Chief of Training and Operations (CTOP), Air Vice Marshal (AVM) James Gwani, noted that the winging of the pilots further lends credence to one of the Key Drivers of the CAS, which is to “Pursue purposeful training and human capacity development’. He added that the new pilots would undoubtedly further enhance NAF’s capacity for effective, efficient, and timely employment of air power in response to Nigeria’s national security imperatives. While giving the highlights of the courses, the CTOP stated that the Basic Flying Course 24B, which commenced from 27 February 20 to 20 June 21, included 3 phases: Basic Rotary Wing Phase, Operational Rotary Wing Phase and Conversion Phase. The ceremony had in attendance Branch Chiefs of Headquarters NAF, Directors as well as relatives of the newly winged pilots. AskiaHarem:How's the Russian economy stagnant? |
Coolliot:You're missing the point. Nigeria does not even invest in it's military. Infrastructure projects constitute by far the largest spending of the government right from Obj to Buhari. This is a military thread, hence we focus on military issues only. The aircraft we have been talking about, we don't even know what it looks like, however it is the most trending military topic today, across the world. Hence our discussions have been centered on it. |
Roan77:It is targeted at countries like Argentina, UAE (Heavy spender), India (Heavy spender) I think we would be able to afford it. It's an aircraft for the future, so we should have a need for it. |
