Odunayaw: Not disputing what you said. But the Bakassi conflict was an Infantryman's war. Hope you get my drift? Isn't all wars infantry war's? It's the man doing the fighting, my pivot is getting that infantry man the right fire support in the quickest possible time in a swampy/wet terrain. I think a tracked vehicle is much better. I don't see how a wheeled vehicle can defeat this sort of terrain.

SuperSixSeven: The ship flies the flag of the Marshal Islands and is commercially operated. Or do you the think the NN would register a vessel overseas? I don't dispute that. What I'm trying to figure out is the basis for the vessel agreement entered into by the ministry of transport. |

Odunayaw: 2013 is 6years ago..
You're welcome to show me examples of "state of the Art frigates" that cost $450m please
Modified I did small research about the Philippine Frigates. That weaponry and tonnage is basically Corvette standard hence it's price. Except we want a frigate just for the "name" only Ships are classified by tonnage not weaponry. If weaponry was the case, the Russian Buyan-m Corvette ships would be classified as Destroyers. The Philippines type frigates would be good for us, it sure beats what we would get with a refit done on Aradu. |

Odunayaw: We've had this debate some 3yrs ago. Tracks have its advantages over Wheels and vice versa.
My point is, looking at our Security challenges (Present and Future), I don't see where Tracks come in first. Is it in the creeks & Jungles down South you'd drive your tracks?
Any issue we'd likely face in the South would be an Infantryman's problem I.e LICW We face a threat from Cameroun, we fought a war with them and occupied bakassi for many years. When fighting along the southern border with Cameroun, tracked vehicles are indispensable. It is easier and faster to drive a tracked vehicle over mud, than a wheeled on. |

Odunayaw: I think I agree too now. It shouldn't cost above $150m to bring that ship up to date and give it nearly 10yrs more What's the wisdom in spending $150 million dollars in refitting Aradu which has been docile since 2006 (14 years) just so that you can use it for 10 years? Whereas we can get 2 state of the art frigates for $450 million, each lasting for 50 years. Philippines paid $435 million for 2 new frigates from south-korea in 2013. |

Odunayaw: I'd rather it is on wheels. COIN warfare - Something I think Africa will face for the next decade, is very unforgiving for tracks You need to understand not all of Nigeria is dry and plain. Wheeled vehicles will suffer in the Niger-Delta, some parts of the Southwest and Southeast. |

jln115: It clearly states in numerous sources that the vessels are owned by a Private contractor yet you still believe those are Nigerian Navy vessels.
They are not even designated with NNS which should be the biggest sign that these are not Nigerian Navy ships You're not Nigerian, and do not have the information I need. |

jln115: They are Daff vessels that have been operated by the SA navy in the past..... Thus they are SAN Ships by your logic. rka2: Some more info on the deep blue project on the NN's website:
"Deep Blue Project. The Deep Blue Project (DBP) is a maritime security project conceived by the FMOT aimed at combating piracy and other criminalities in the nation’s maritime domain. The Project comprises procurement of equipment and systems, and training for their operation and maintenance. The NN has been collaborating with the FMOT through NIMASA with whom an existing MOU is currently running.]The main deliverables for the NN from the Project are 3x Leonardo Helicopter (LH109) Grand New, 2 x 55M Special Mission Vessels (SMVs) and 17 x 9.6m Rigid Hull Inflatable Boats (RHIBs) as interceptor boats. Others are UAVs, C4I Center and training facilitation for the intervention team. The NN however, counts on the Committee’s support for FMoT to make provision for the sustenance of this critical equipment, to avoid past mistakes." |

jln115: So you just proved my point that these are not Nigerian Navy Ships...... Thanks It's not about proving points or not. Nairaland arguments do not add money to my pockets. All i'm alluding to is the Nigerian navy is to benefit 2 ships and 3 helicopters from the "deep blue project". It is difficult to say who actually owns the vessel between NIMASA, the Navy or a Private Contractor. It is true the recent links say a Private Nigerian contractor, but how come the navy is billed to receive 2 ships and NIMASA is paying for a vessel for a private contractor. I find the whole thing to be mind boggling. |

jln115: I looked at the wrong date fvcking shoot me mate!!!! Regardless of the date it still doesn't make any difference to the fact that does vessels are not Nigerian Navy vessels This is from the Nigerian navy. This is why i believe clarity is required over the actual ownership of the Special Mission Vessels. rka2: Some more info on the deep blue project on the NN's website:

Foxhol, 27/08/2019 – Today the special mission vessel project, two ships under construction, was presented and shown to the NIMASA (Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency). The vessels, both part of the Deep Blue project, are now in an advanced stage of construction. In the next months, the delivery shall take place. These very innovative vessels have a three step hybrid propulsion system and various features to be a next generation special mission vessel with a comfortable interior for its crew and operators.

jln115: So the contract was terminated on the 16 December 2019 then reinstated yet the DB Abuja was received on the 13th of December?? Does that sound right to you?
Yes it does state that(but the contract was terminated unfortunately) but it has nothing to do with DB Abuja and DB lagos which are not Nigerian Navy ships If you read the link, you won't make this comment. Show me where the contract was terminated in December 16 2019 in that link I posted? |
Foreign Affairs › Re: African Militaries/ Security Services Strictly Photos Only And Videos Thread by kabe1: 8:11pm On Dec 18, 2019 |
Odunayaw: So the DB is the Special mission vessel ba? Just post Ezugwu pictures abeg Apart from whining like a biitch, what do you contribute, nothing. The link clearly states DB Abuja would be used as a special mission vessel. The premium times report clearly states the navy would get a special mission vessel from the ministry of transport. |
Foreign Affairs › Re: African Militaries/ Security Services Strictly Photos Only And Videos Thread by kabe1: 7:34pm On Dec 18, 2019 |
Odunayaw: So how does this prove the DB Abuja is for the Navy. Are you trying to be funny?
There is no navy naming nomenclature that has DB, its either NNS or nothing It proves a special mission vessel would be purchased for the Nigerian navy as part of the deep blue project, and a special mission vessel has been purchased for the navy as part of the deep blue project. |
Foreign Affairs › Re: African Militaries/ Security Services Strictly Photos Only And Videos Thread by kabe1: 7:21pm On Dec 18, 2019 |
jln115: So how can you receive a vessel from a contract that was terminated??
Secondly nowhere in your entire article does it mention any ships that were bought from de hoop shipyards.
Your article literally has nothing to do with DB Abuja and DB Lagos. 1, it was terminated, yes, and has been reinstated. The article clearly states special mission vessel would be purchased for the navy. It clearly states in this link that it's going to be used as a special mission vessel. http://www.shipspotting.com/gallery/photo.php?lid=3061498 |

Odunayaw: Funds didn't come from NN's pockets nor were they recipients of the purchase.
NN are only in the matter because of our Firearms law and their expertise. You guys don't bother to carry out basic research. The contract, signed off by the Federal Executive Council in December 2017, would have seen the contractor, HSLi, net $195 million in exchange for an undisclosed number of special mission aircraft, special mission helicopters and 12 fast intervention vessels for the Nigerian Navy.https://www.nairaland.com/4525843/buhari-cancels-195-million-security |

jln115: now now let's not get ahead of ourselves, you are getting an LST and a hydrographic survey ship......well that's what has been ordered, the rest are still plans.
Damen has already started building 3 62 meter MMIPVs which are classified as OPVs by Damen, After this order the second phase of Project Biro is the acquisition of 3 80meter + OPVs or Corvettes as you like to call them.
Building of the SANs new hydrographic vessel has also begun under project hotel. The scale of your delusion of grandeur is incredible.
