Religion / Re: What Is The Most Seemingly Misinterpreted Portion Of The Bible? by Kabikala(m): 1:38pm On Jun 19, 2022
*And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the powers of death shall not prevail against it.*
Matthew 16: 18. RSV.

Many Christians believe that Jesus was inferring that he was going to build his church on Peter, his disciple.

I don't think so.
Jesus would not predicate the entirety of his divine assignment on another human with frailties. Even when that person would deny him a short while later.
I believe Jesus' statement was that his church would be built on that powerful statement uttered by Peter in the earlier verse:
*Simon Peter replied, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.”*
Matthew 16:16 RSV

This makes more sense to me. Many Bible scholars think so too.

The case is DEAD ON ARRIVAL and a waste of time and resources.

Peter Obi was illegally impeached in 2006, yet the court didn't add even 1hr to his tenure after he was reinstated.

Rasheed Ladoja was illegally impeached in January 2006 and was reinstated in December same year, yet the SC refused to add 1hr to his term even after he approached the court.

Admiral Nyako's 2014 impeachment has been declared illegal yet Supreme Court in December dismissed his appeal for reinstatement.

Fayose should prepare to handover. Power is transient. I guess he never thought that a day will come when he will no longer be governor...

QED.

Nairaland / General / CALL 4 HELP: My Friend Needs A Place To Stay Today In Durban, South Africa by Kabikala(m): 1:31pm On Oct 28, 2016
MY FRIEND NEEDS URGENT HELP IN DURBAN, SOUTH AFRICA!

My friend of over twenty years (a Nigerian) who lives in Brits, South Africa, have been out of job for about 4 years mainly due to lack of documentation. He recently got his legal stay earlier this year and have been job-hunting since.

A large estate firm based in Durban interviewed him for a job some time ago and subsequently invited him to come and resume for the position last Monday. However, due to funding challenges, he was only able to raise the transport fare yesterday. By the time he arrived Durban, the big boss has travelled and he has been asked to wait for him to return by next Tuesday.

He is basically stranded with little money and needs a place to stay in Durban till next Wednesday when he will meet the big boss.

The office plans to provide him with accommodation once he is hired.

Any offer of help will be appreciated.

Thanks to ypeace, FriendChoice, and Bash419 for diligently answering the questions. I certainly got educated.

Please confirm my understanding of the responses below:

Question 1: Allah only loves those who do good, not everyone.

Question 2: "And Mohammed is his Prophet" was not expressly commanded in the Quoran, but was supported by various verses from it.

Question 6: The Quoranic verse in reference regarding Mohammed not being sure of his fate is Surah 46:9:

"I am no bringer of new-fangled doctrine among the messengers, nor do i know what will be done with me or with you. I follow but that which is revealed to me by inspiration; I am but a warner open and clear."

Question 7: The Quoran describes Mohammed as a good example, not that he is the best of mankind.

Question 10: The Hadiths are important in order to understand the Quoran, but is not a Holy Book like the Quoran.
Personally, I would think the Hadiths are prone to human errors just like the books of the Bible have been alleged. Only the Quoran could possibly be said to be 100% error-free since it was said to be authored by Allah.

Question 11:
@Friendchoice:You did not show clearly that the Quoran prescribes that Muslims pray in Arabic. You only justified why the Quoran was revealed in Arabic.
On a related note, you quoted Quran 14:4 to the effect that "Allah guides and misguides whom He will." Will Allah punish the person He has misguided if that person stumbles based on that misdirection?

Question 13: The Quoran did not categorically mention the Torah, the Gospels, or Psalms when it referred to some scriptures that have been corrupted.

Question 14: The moon crescent is not a symbol of Islam.

Question 15: The Quoran prescribes death sentence for blasphemy.

I am generally satisfied with the responses provided to Questions 3, 4, 5, 8, 9, and 12.

Thanks once again.

Thanks ypeace.

I have gone back to read the additional answers you provided to Question 4. Which Prophet before Mohammed was allowed to have more than 4 wives?

On your answer to Question 1, does Allah love everyone, or He only loves those who do good? Do you have more Quoranic references?

I did not understand your answer to Question 3. Is the Sharia not based on the Quoran?
Religion / Re: Questions About Islam: I Need Frank And Objective Responses From True Muslims. by Kabikala(m): 9:33pm On Aug 25, 2016

I will be looking forward to your answers to the remaining questions. I hope to be better educated.

Thanks ypeace.
I am following your responses.

In following up on your answer to Question 4, was it that Prophet Mohammed disobeyed Allah's command? Or was the commandment issued after he was already married to more than 4 wives? Or does this particular commandment exclude him?
Religion / Questions About Islam: I Need Frank And Objective Responses From True Muslims. by Kabikala(m): 3:02pm On Aug 24, 2016
In 2005, a Muslim friend, observing my curiosity about the religion of Islam, gave me an English translation of the Quoran. I have been studying it ever since.

I am all for knowledge-acquisition and I, as much as possible, try to avoid joining the bandwagon to discredit a perspective I don't truly understand. I will rather make efforts and wait patiently to get the correct answers.

However, I have some nagging questions about Islam which my limited study of the Quoran has not been able to assuage.

I will appreciate all expositions and explanations that will broaden my horizon and enrich my understanding of these issues.

The questions are as follows:

Questions on my mind
1.) Is there anywhere in the Quoran where Allah declares that he loves human beings or Muslims? Is Allah capable of love?
2.) Did God ask Mohammed to add "And Mohammed is his Prophet" to the Muslim chant: "There is no God but Allah?" If Yes, why does Allah acknowledge only Mohammed and not the other earlier Prophets? Would that not elevate Mohammed to a similar level with God if he has to be acknowledged alongside God in the same statement of worship?
3.) Is it true that the Quoran prescribes death sentence for anyone who converts from Islam? If Yes, is it true that a Muslim will be rewarded if he carries out this death penalty?
4.) Is it true that Mohammed prescribes a maximum of four wives for a Muslim man? How many wives did Mohammed have?
5.) Is it true that Mohammed married a girl at 6 and started having sex with her at the age of 9?
6.) Is it true that Mohammed said he was not sure of his fate after he might have died?
7.) Why is Mohammed described by some Muslims as "the best of mankind?" What attributes exhibited by him makes him the best of mankind? Was this title conferred on him by Allah?
8.) Is it true that alcohol is prohibited in Islam, but will be available in abundance for redeemed Muslims in heaven?
9.) Are the five pillars of Islam revealed in the Quoran and identified as such? If not, how did they originate?
10.) If the Quoran is a Holy Book, why does one need the Hadith? Is the Quoran inadequate, or incomplete? Does God intend for Muslims to read the Hadiths in order to understand the Quoran? Did the Quoran mention the Hadiths as a reference check for Muslims to understand it? Is the Hadith also a holy book? If not, why should anyone believe it?
11.) Why do Muslims pray in Arabic? Is it a Quoranic injunction? I have heard the explanation of the Quoran being written in Arabic to preserve the original meaning. But did the Quoran recommend that Muslims pray in Arabic? Is Arabic the language of Allah?
12.) Why do Muslims add "Peace and blessing upon him" whenever the name of Mohammed is mentioned? Was that recommended by the Quoran? If not, then what is the origin? Is Mohammed not at peace already where he is?
13.) When Muslims say the bible is corrupted, was this based on what was said in the Quoran? If not, what then is the basis for this claim when the Quoran itself affirms the validity of the Torah, the Psalms, and the Gospels?
14.) Why do mosques have the moon crescent mounted on their tops?
15.) What should a good Muslim do when someone blasphemes Prophet Mohammed or Allah? What does the Quoran recommend?

Car Talk / Re: Problems Encountered By The Introduction Of The New Vehicle Tinted Glass Permit by Kabikala(m): 7:53pm On Mar 18, 2016
My vehicle uses the old plate number without the map of Nigeria on the background.
I completed the online form and proceeded to the Abuja Police Headquarters for biometric capture.
The IT person at Force Hq said the car was not registered on their database which is managed by FRSC.
I went to FRSC and they said they only include vehicles with the new number plates on their database.
Now I cannot do my biometrics unless I am willing to get the new number plate which the courts have declared must not be forced on users of the old number plate.

It is based on the following factors and assumptions:

3. Each party's spread and their strength in each state

4. New developments in the political terrain of a state irrespective of the party that rules the state

Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala also stated that the Goodluck Jonathan administration has reformed the import waiver system but emphasized that the policy was selective.

She said prior to the advent of Jonathan as president, the import waiver system was characterized by sharp practices. According to her, “before President Jonathan came on board, the import waiver system was bad. They were either issued arbitrarily, were lopsided and not good for any economic environment.”

She added that three years ago, when she came on board as minister the first issue the president put before the first meeting of the National Economic Management team was the import waiver which he felt was selective, lopsided and led to the midnight visits. “We are happy to announce that the policy has since been reversed and the import waiver system reformed.”

She stated that the reform of the waiver system was not the only significant achievement of the Federal Government under President Jonathan.
