Wizkid smokes weed and he is successful. Samklef does not smoke weed yet he is frustrated. I would rather be like Wizkid. |
I was unable to find any statement from WHO indicating that the Nigerian doctor did not have EVD. Can anyone provide the primary link to the WHO statement? |
JideTheBlogger: Yes oo. Imagine, a team without a player that can play free kicks.. We wasted corners, free kicks. No pattern, nothing.God bless you bro. Under 3 years of Keshi, Nigeria Super Eagles did not score any goal via corner kick and maybe scored one or two through free kicks. And we had dozens of both. What kind of coach would develop a team that does not know how to optimize dead ball situations? Recall how Argentina and France both defeated us at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil by capitalizing on the opportunities provided through free kicks and corner kicks. How do the big teams excel? By not wasting the opportunities they get in a match. Keshi has just been one lucky fella. He is no tactician. Simple. |
I actually admire that gentleman's haircut. |
By the way, I control more votes than Obasanjo. When will APC visit me in my One-Bedroom apartment? |
The only thing these guys have in common, and the only ideology being espoused by this group, is their hatred of Jonathan. Forget all this talk about rescuing Nigeria, it is all hogwash. If we start listing the tyranny of the APC Governors and their new PDP decampees, Jona' will look like a saint in comparison. By these guys' standard, anyone who joins the APC automatically becomes a "progressive", your antecedents notwithstanding. In their thinking, removing Jonathan is the solution to Nigeria's problems. |
babytoun: When I read the letter , my first reaction was it is rare to find a Yoruba Woman address her father this way. Really really difficult no matter the circumstance.@babytoun: You got it right. She caved in to pressure and the poorly written rebuttal was drafted for her by those who pressured her. This is a feeble attempt at damage control. Remember Gbenga also denied misjiving to Sowore way back, but we now know better. The specifics in her letter could not have been known to anyone not that close to OBJ. Examples: - Her experience at Eagles' Square on OBJ's inauguration on May 29, 1999. - The assasination attempt on her and the fact that the police orderly killed in that incident was provided to her by the then Women Affairs Minister - Her experience at the campaign rally when Yar'Adua was rumoured to be dead. - Her recent encounter with Osoba in the US. One thing I know for sure is that she will not be suing Vanguard and she will hope the whole episode will just pass away. But to those with discerning minds, be sure that Iyabo Obasanjo wrote that letter. QED. |
fckyourman: Is it Dpricnce, Dr Sid, Tiwa Savage will save mavin records. Please mention one hit song by D'Banj since he parted ways with Don Jazzy. Oliver Twist? That was D'Banj's last partnerdhip with Don Jazzy. Two years later, he is still confabulating. Did you read about what happened to him in Zimbabwe? D'Banj is on his way down if he does not find his way back. Now compare that to what the Don Jazzy effect has done to Tiwa Savage music career (have you listened to Eminado?). The D'Banj-Don Jazzy combination was a winning one and the parting of ways has affected D'Banj negatively. In the Nigerian music industry history, whenever an artiste separates from the producer that made him a star, it is never easy to maintain the standard. The list is endless. Shina Paters and Laolu Akins. Timaya and K Solo. Tuface and that guy that produced African queen for him (forgot his name). Kefee and Alex. 9ice and ID Cabasa. Compare that to how P Square has continued to be relevant because they did not change the producer that made them. |
flexya: Most ppl r missin the point but am sure its glarin to Tinubu and co. What Ahmed is sayin is that He and his followeres CANNOT join APC because Bukola Saraki CANNOT join, even if he wants to. Why can't Bukola? He is hampered by the constitution. No legislator can cross carpet without a faction breakin from (or merger arising out off) the party upon which he was elected. PDP fought hard to ensure that the courts did not recognise d nPDP as a faction. That court judgement shut the door on any National Assembly legislator crossin over from PDP to APC. APC legislators can cross over to PDP or Labour like Opeyemi Bamidel (since there has been a merger-see constitution). If Saraki joins APC in the senate, his seat would immediately be declared vacant.Trash. Do you know of any Senator that has lost his seat for decamping to another party? Note that Senator Ajayi Borroffice decamped from Labour Party to ACN over two years ago and that he is still in the Senate. The constitutional provision is that there must be a faction, not that the faction must be recognized by the court (I pray to God you don't expect the court to pronounce the Baraje group a faction of PDP, but is that not what they are?). Even at that, it had never been applied in the National Assembly in the history of democracy in Nigeria. Please stop peddling fallacies here. Saraki is simply afraid of decamping from the PDP because he does not fancy his chances at winning a political contest when he would need to confront the ruling party in a general election. You are the one missing the point. |
01mcfadden: Fingers crossed till then.He never said so. That was also another rumour. |
oshyno: The nPDP members especially the governors are in a cross road here. Should they decide to dump PDP they will be relieved of their post as governors. If they stay put, which I think they will, they will be dealt with Tukur.Tukur has already set up a disciplinary committee.Really? Which constitution are you reading? Are you aware that two PPA Governors defected to PDP after the 2007 elections and they retained their positions? The rule of vacating your position if you defect only applies to parliamentarians, and even then, it has always been applied in breach. |
nikkypearl: do not say anything offensive to islam/christianity,or u get banned..I REPEATWhat does this mean? Is someone jittery already? What about other religions; does it mean they are game for anyone able to dish out offensive insults? This is clearly excessive censorship and I am amazed at the over-exuberant attempt to silence contrary opinions that the moderator finds disagreeable. What stops anyone feeling offended by any particular comment to simply ignore it, or better still, leave the thread. But no, everyone needed to be warned ahead of time just so some folks will not start throwing tantrums. What is nairaland turning into? |
The title is misleading. The deceased was former "Deputy Vice Chancellor", not former "Vice Chancellor". |
Mr President, There have been several clear cases of excessive brutality by the military on innocent civlians prior to your ascent to power and since you came on board. A few examples of some that happened under your watch: 1.) Soldiers in Badagry ambushed the Police who were on a peace mission in 2010 and killed the DPO, DCO and other police officers. The perpetrators were never arrested and the Commanding Officer never sanctioned. 2.) Around 2010, a young lady was brutalized by Naval ratings in the convoy of Cmdr Arogundade in Lagos Island. 3.) Early 2013, soldiers in Akure invaded the State Hospital and beat up the staff over a disagreement. 4.) A few days ago, soldiers invaded an uncompleted building in Apo, Abuja and killed innocent squatters. All these incidences were widely reported in the media which was how I learnt about them. And this is only a small proportion of the abuse Nigerians are subjected to daily in the hands of securitymen funded to protect them. Is it that soldiers are above the law? Did the president not read about these events in the news? Why did your government not react when your citizens were being brutalised by your own securitymen? The reason why these brutalities have continued and will not stop is simply because the perpetrators get away with it. And unless you do something, it will never stop. Thank you. |
I hope Akokites now realize that the reputation of a University has little to do with whether the school's name is "chic" or not. Whether MAULAG or UNILAG, this kind of news is a shame all the same. So imagine that the school was MAULAG and the world got to read about a real invention from its students! |
tokunboh: We'd see where their so-called political sophistication will lead them. The person they are trying to fight is not even in the ring yet and they have almost exhausted their firepower. What more can they do? Try and impeach GEJ? Concede power to the Southwest in 2015? Assassinate the President?I agree with you Tokunboh and I am amazed at how many people cannot see this. The north has actually boxed itself into a corner with this PDP factionalization since Jona' will easily pick the PDP ticket now. If as some commentators here have said the new PDP settles for either Ameachi or any other southern candidate and Jonathan loses in 2015, then we will be here again in 2019 talking about the incumbent president agreeing and signing to a single-term pact with the north. If the worst case scenario does not happen and Jonathan wins, then he could as well hand over to the Igbos in 2019 since the north did not support him in 2015. If the PDP faction (PDM in reality) picks a presidential candidate from the north, the party will likely share the northern votes with the APC which is poised to pick a northener as its candidate. Jona' will win massively down south and pick some of the votes from the north (Benue, Plateau, Adamawa, Taraba, Kwara and Kogi). If on the other hand, PDM picks its candidate from the south, that candidacy cannot fly as he (or she) will be seen as a spoiler for Jona'. The game is really between APC and Jonathan, and APC can only swing it if it picks a southern candidate. Either way, the Arewa agenda this time around, is dead on arrival! |
sanniemoe: I remember reading his last interview in City People and I asked myself who does this guy think he is to be talking with so much confidence and authority? He was so direct and sure of himself. I reasoned his strong words as He's equating himself to a prophet..I also remembered the City People interview and began to think, Hmmm, running down Tope Alabi the way he did was kind of immature. Touch not mine anointed.... |
jbaur24: Okorocha was seen all over Anambra in 2010/2011. He was virtually living in Awka where he was begging Obi to give him ticket. If not for Ikemba sympathy vote and Obi/Ume support okorocha wouldn't get anywhere. If okorocha was that marketable why is it that he didn't win a common councillor all the while he was junketing from one party to another? He formed AA, the party didn't last two months. So how come APGA never won Imo until it fielded Okorocha? And how come APGA never won any other state in the south-east apart from Anambra and Imo? You would have to admit that the Okorocha factor counted in his victory though the APGA platform definitely also have contributed. |
ninja4life: In southern nigeria there are 2 governors dat are mostly critisized as non-performing dats uduaghan and orji uzor kalu but d new gdp on wikipedia put d gdp of d 2 states at 16.7 and 18.6 billion dollars respectively, does dat mean d 2 governors are actually performing or this increase in their gdp is as a result of d work of d past governors,i need answer oo.Orji Uzor Kalu ceased being a governor since 2007. When you quote huge GDP figures for these states without providing the trends, then we don't know for sure that these were increases over what obtained before these Governors came into office. Also, the increase in Nigeria's oil production owing to the Niger Delta Amnesty Program led to a general increase in the amount of revenue accruing to all tiers of government and this will translate to a high GDP. So GDP does not necessarily show that the Governors are working. |

I believe ACN (and potentially APC) is worried that its perceived electoral advantage in the Boko Haram states may be undermined if no election holds in those states in 2015. They also want to be seen by the Boko Haram members and sympathisers in those states as being on their side, regardless of whether the FG's approach is necessary or justified. By this statement, I don't think the ACN is concerned about peace or bringing Boko Haram to justice, rather, they are cozying up to Boko Haram and are hoping to get their support so that they will have an advantage over PDP in 2015. I still believe GEJ was right in declaring states of emergencies in those states. |
Same story was posted on Linda Ikeji's blog about a week ago: http://lindaikeji..com/2013/04/photo-husband-allegedly-slits-wife.html So so saaaddd! |
Bukola Saraki's media team released a statement a couple of weeks ago claiming he has been cleared by the Police SFU. That was the last I heard of this issue. |
All of these confirms that the one man one vote mantra being mouthed by Oshiomhole is just empty rhetorics. It also confirms that when it comes to election rigging, ACN is not so different from the PDP. In actual fact, the quality of elections conducted by Jega's INEC is better than the ones conducted by any of the SIECS. Oshiomhole was one of the vociferous critics of the proposed constitutional amendment that wants to place LG elections under INEC control and scrap SIECS. It is now apparent why he wants to control the SIECS. |

My position: Oshiomhole is APC’s best bet for 2015 I am not a politician and do not belong to any of the political parties. I am however concerned at the way my country is being run and have been more than disappointed in the present leadership at the national level as represented by Dr Goodluck Ebele Jonathan. My preference for 2015 is therefore predicated solely on whether or not a viable alternative is presented to wrest power from the PDP, who for all intents and purposes, will field Goodluck Jonathan again as its 2015 presidential flagbearer. Let me state some of my postulations based on my understanding of the Nigerian political terrain. First, I think the core north will not support Goodluck Jonathan in 2015 and will most likely vote for his opponent. Secondly, going by PDP’s history, the presidency has always forced its will on the party. Obasanjo installed the national executive officers he wanted while he was President. Goodluck is also toeing the same path. So PDP Governors with no real power thinking they can wrest the presidential ticket from Jonathan are actually pursuing a vacuous expectation. If Jonathan is actually interested in re-contesting in 2015 (as I am convinced he is), he will easily pick the PDP ticket. And after all the huffing and puffing, the recalcitrant PDP Governors will most likely make up with him in exchange for soft landings from corruption probes and persecution after leaving office. This is even more important as more than 70% of the current PDP governors are finishing their second terms. The more sycophantic and jittery among them could even negotiate for a ministerial position. So, there you have Jonathan, the most probable PDP candidate. Now, who is in a good position to defeat him in the APC, the only viable opposition party we have in Nigeria. If for example, a northern Muslim candidate like El-Rufai, Buhari or Shekarau is selected as the flagbearer as is being rumored, they would have given Jonathan an easy ride. This is because as it is, owing to the Boko Haram carnage and the perceived ambivalence of the northern Muslim elites, southerners will never vote for a northern Muslim candidate in this kind of times. So nominating a northern Muslim to contest against Jonathan in 2015 is handing the presidency to Jonathan on a platter of gold. If there is an acceptable northern Christian presidential candidate, I am sure the core north would still prefer him to Jonathan in spite of their reservations. But I don’t know of any such person with the kind of clout, pedigree, and charisma to mount a serious challenge to the incumbent with the resources at the latter's disposal. Coming down south, we could look at the options of Fashola, Tinubu, Rochas or Oshiomhole. Tinubu is perceived as being dictatorial and also carries the baggage of the Chicago certificate scandal which he had never resolved. Fashola, who is widely credited with outstanding performance as Lagos Governor, is also perceived as being too much of a Tinubu boy and should he become President, would probably be held hostage in Aso Rock as he is presently at Alausa. Rochas’ performance has not been acclaimed unanimously, and he does not have any serious followership outside of Imo State. Oshiomhole is best positioned to defeat a Jonathan aspiration in 2015. First, he will split the south south votes with Jona’ and may make serious impact in the south east. He would also defeat Jonathan in the south west that has been the bastion of progressive politics from time immemorial. He also has the advantage of being seen as his own man, not kow-towing before any godfather. And I am sure the core north would never vote for Jonathan under any circumstances and an Oshiomhole alternative may be an easy sell. Oshiomhole is also very eloquent (Jonathan would never risk a debate with Oshiomhole unless he wants to commit suicide) and is a mass mobilizer. He can also play rough when there is a need. Above all, he has been tested at various levels of governance and management and he has never disappointed. With average allocations to his state, he has provided a standard of governance ranking among the best in the country. I am sure the core north would prefer him to Jonathan and the northern Christians would not have problems trusting him. In actual fact, many people do not know whether Oshiomhole is a Christian or Muslim. |
It is almost certain that PDP will field Goodluck Jonathan again for the 2015 Presidential elections. As things stand, APC is the only other political structure that can give him a fight. So, which candidate offers the best chance for APC to defeat Goodluck Jonathan in the 2015 Presidential elections? |
I am of the view that Okupe has provided hard facts which the opposition should controvert if they have better evidence. These are tangible and verifiable assertions and should certainly count as accomplishments by Jonathan unless the opposition can debunk them. As dumb as he is, I am one to admit that Jona' has made tangible progress in some areas. Whether that is up to expectation, or commensurate with the resources he had, or is the best we can get, are different questions. |
1MCN: I dont have the full copy of all that this issue has so far documented since it started in 2005 but am compelled to stop and think a second time with what this opposition party member has got to say even contrary to the popular stance of his party. Both Senator Uzamere and nairalander 1MCN are entirely wrong over their assertions on Alamieyesegha. First, it is a shame that a serving Senator of the Federal Republic can open his mouth to say he does not know the position of the party whose flag he is flying in the upper chamber of the national assembly on the Alamieyesegha pardon saga. Does that mean that he does not touch base with his party leaders? Or he does not read newspapers? Even though he is entitled to his own views, he should be ashamed of himself to claim ignorance of the position of his own party on this issue. Now to the issue of why Alamieyesegha was targetted by Obasanjo. Both Senator Uzamere and 1MCN made several wrong assertions. The 13% derivation was an outcome of the 1995 constitutional conference organized by Abacha. Abdulsalami retained it when promulgating the 1999 constitution. Obasanjo did not start payment immediately, he only started the payment in 2000. Several Niger Delta groups like the South South Peoples Assembly and the Ijaw National Congress prevailed on him to pay the backlog from May 29, 1999 when the 1999 constitution took effect. He refused. Alamieyesegha then was not known to be part of this agitation as he was already a governor and enjoying the lucre of office. In fact, I make bold to say that until his travails in the hands of the UK Police and the EFCC, Alamieyesegha had never been known to be critical of any government in power and was never an active member of any of the vocal ethnic groupings in the Niger Delta fighting for resource control. I dare anyone to prove me wrong on this. The latter day affiliations with the several groups of agitators in the Niger Delta was an afterthought to curry public sympathy after his travails under Obasanjo. I dare anyone to quote any public statement made by Alamieyesegha before he was removed as governor fighting for resource control or improved derivation for the Ijaws. He had always catered for himself and is only clutching at the straws of populism to gain sympathy. The truth is that Alamieyesegha does not care about his people. He stole them blind while he was governor even when he knows the terrible state of under-development in his native Bayelsa State. He was hounded by Obasanjo who needed a scape goat to convince his international friends that he was serious about his anti-corruption crusade. And Alamieyesgha was not the one who made Jonathan a vice presidential candidate to Yar'Adua. He had no such influence at the time. And according to 1MCN, that Alams is reverred by his people is an evidence that he was persecuted because of them! Nothing can be further from the truth. We do not know for sure that majority of Ijaws or Bayelsans actually support him. He's got some followership, just like many evil persons with access to resources. Adedibu, Chris Uba, Arthur Eze, Sani Abacha, all evil men that commanded signficant followership in their own territories while they held sway. It is all a matter of cash and does not connote virtue in any form. All of this reminds me of the quote often attributed to Joseph Goebbels that "If you repeat a lie often enough, it becomes the truth". Alamieyesegha was not an activist that was persecuted. He was a common thief who got his hands fried. |
You are entirely correct Kennyblues. I see as hypocritical the continous attempt at portraying Boko haram as fighting against both Christians and Muslims and the oft-repeated rhetoric that more Muslims have been killed by Boko Haram than Christians. The truth are however as follows: - Boko Haram had never opened fire on worshippers in a mosque since its murderous campaign started. - Boko Haram had never successfully attacked a mosque through suicide bombing or any other means since its campaign commenced. Tha Kano Governor actually came out to say most of the victims of the bomb blast at the Sabon Gari motor park in Kano a few weeks ago were Muslims. I don't believe that. He should release the entire list of casualties and let the whole world judge. The truth which many northerners and other biased interests had refused to admit is that Boko haram is against Christianity and specifically targets Christians anywhere they are. The few Muslim casualties are those they perceived as being sympathetic to Christians. Simple. |

So you have a "cloned" copy of our constitution that makes her so abi
