PoliticsRe: South-East Leaders Endorse Jonathan For Second Term by Kabikala(m):
Idokojimmy: President Goodluck Jonathan has been urged to seek another four year tenure in 2015 with an assurance of support from the south-east zone.

The president who was on a one-day visit to Anambra State yesterday was assured by the state governor Mr. Peter Obi that if he decides to go for another tenure to complete his work, he will get the backing of the people of the state.

Governor Peter Obi assured Jonathan that he is very much loved by the people of the state, and that they do not regret voting for him.

Businessman, Arthur Eze also said that since it is constitutional for presidents to take two tenures of four years each, Jonathan should not shortchange himself or disappoint his supporters by refusing to go for another tenure: “Obasanjo took eight years; we are calling on you to take another four years as one term is too short for you to finish the job you have at hand. You can consider giving power to the north after your eight years, so that they will return it to the south-east after their own eight years,” Eze stated.

Jonathan in his remarks described the south-east as where he has the most popularity even though his posters were torn and some of his campaign offices burnt during the 2011 presidential campaigns. “The only time a youth was caught tearing my poster, it turned out that he was removing it to paste in his house. I feel like I am in my home any time I am in the south-east, particularly in Onitsha. I can walk around without security,” he said.

He pointedly referred to the people of the south-east as “my people”, saying that he even instructed his security men “not to push anybody today because they are all my people”.
Now read that last line. Which means the rest of us are not his people and the security men can push us anyhow. Sometimes it is difficult to blame those who call this guy Retardeen!

[quote author=crackhouse]This man sef. Why is he asking Nigerians whether power supply have improved? Or did he want to indirectly remind us of the increment so we can praise him as well? He should go and ask Otuoke people if he really want to know. As for my side, we had light only yesterday after more than 1wk of total darkness. However i suggest he should also ask Nigerians how EFCC is handling corruption and whether Min. Of. Works have repaired Benin-Ore Rd instead of this[quote author=crackhouse]Well I can confirm to you that Benin-Ore Road is more than 90% completed and it is a first class road at least by Nigerian standard.

Mimiko and the Southwest
By Idowu Akinlotan 15 hours 26 minutes ago

•Mimiko

Mr Ebenezer Babatope, whose recanted progressivism is mesmerising the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Abuja, angered party faithful in Ondo State during a recent visit when he suggested he would have loved his party not to present a candidate for the October governorship election on account of Governor Olusegun Mimiko’s giant achievements. In his days as Director of Organisation of the defunct Unity Party of Nigeria (UPN), Babatope was a dominant voice for progressivism. Today, he has become a dominant voice for conservatism. It is a compliment to his energy and commitment that he brings passion to any assignment given him. His angry party men in Akure are only now discovering what many of us knew way back in the 1980s, that the former Transport minister’s talents do not include the ability to rationally discriminate between two contradistinctive causes or to take a principled stand for either.

It was, therefore, not surprising that during the said trip he had this to say of Mimiko’s government: “I passed through this state on my way to Benin to campaign for the candidate of our party and I was amazed by the level of development I saw. What we are seeing in Ondo State should be replicated in other Southwest states where nothing is moving in terms of development.” It is comforting indeed that at least Babatope’s gift for hyperbole, which he honed in the Second Republic, has not left him. In the coming months, we expect to hear more of such sweeping and unsubstantiated conclusions.

But Babatope is not the only impressionable Nigerian to be bewitched by Mimiko’s sorcery. When the governor assembled top politicians, leading Yoruba personalities and media professionals to mark his third year in office in Akure last year, many of his guests became strangely voluble. Retired Major General Olufemi Olutoye, a former federal commissioner in his days, enthused about Mimiko’s achievements in this manner: “Since 1978 when I retired from the Army, I have been fully resident in Akure. I have witnessed all the administrations. In terms of performance, I can say that this is the second Awolowo. He has performed. He has tried his best. Somebody said that he is a candidate that should go to the centre later. I fully agree and pray that it will be so.” It is hard to know what chimera these men saw, or what also inflamed invited media professionals, who should know better, to concur with the illusions in Akure, but the fantasy has been sustained by the most carefully wrought propaganda effusions any state government has ever designed.

The governor himself believes his own propaganda. While receiving defectors from other political parties in the state recently, including from the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), Mimiko warned that Ondo State would not give in to politicians he described as emperors. He added that the order of politics in the state did not give room to politicians he also described as District Officers (DO) or colonial masters. It is clear what he meant. To him, all his fellow governors in the Southwest are DOs, and he is the only brave Prophet Elijah who has not bowed his knees to Baal. There are many reasons to explain why Mimiko will ardently embrace the politics of personality and abuse and strenuously avoid the politics of issues.

During his declaration of intent to seek re-election, the governor mentioned what he termed his achievements as proof he had the interest of the electorate in mind. As part of his Caring Heart programme, he said, his agricultural settlements were modern, and were already up and running. But when the graduate settlers manning the farms protested poor facilities and neglect in the Ore settlement, the governor simply abandoned the scheme while he continues to tout it as an achievement. He also mentioned his model schools, two of which took him nearly four years to complete. Work out the equation yourself concerning his schools – not education – programme if he gets another four years. There is also the Mother and Child hospital scheme, only one of which has been completed. He apparently expects pregnant women from all over the state to flock to Akure. Here again is a hospital scheme without a health programme.

But who can deny the nice-looking bus stops that adorn Akure roads, even though the governor has no roads programme and has not constructed any new one; or deny the water fountain at Alagbaka and the expansion of Oyemekun Road; or deny his mega markets without tenants (except in Akure) which have no co-ordinated and consistent economic framework to sustain them; or the white elephant event centre called Dome, as if that is what the people need? Who indeed can forget the static Kaadi Igbe-ayo, a disingenuous social security programme inaugurated in Igbara Oke with the flip-flopping Dr Olu Agunloye’s ‘sterling’ technical ideas? There is no coherence to governance in Ondo, there is no sense for economic direction and modelling, there is no real social contract worth the concept but some 12-point trifles on paper, there is no breath-taking vision, and, worse, there is no future. And it is for this yawning emptiness, this journey of longings and despair, this celebration of unbefitting regional crassness, that the leading lights of Afenifere and other top Yoruba leaders gathered in Akure both to honour and to give Mimiko’s re-election ambition a boost. Is this what the Southwest has become? Do character, principles and ideology no longer matter? Are noble virtues now to be sacrificed for a few bus shelters and grandiose markets?

The rest of the Southwest may not know that the only things taking place in Ondo are tokenism and propaganda. Mercifully, Ondo people know. They are too smart to be hoodwinked by propaganda, by striking abuse, by feeble gestures. They know that in spite of Mimiko’s resort to abuse and name-calling, and in spite of the enormity of the work needed to reverse the damage done by previous governments, the Southwest governors are laying a more enduring and modern foundation for the future. They know that contrary to what some Afenifere leaders say and what Babatope parrots, regional integration will unleash unquantifiable developmental energies in the Southwest, trigger limitless economic possibilities and rewrite the region’s social, political and cultural paradigms. They know it is a ruse to say the foundation of integration can be laid irrespective of the parties ruling the region. Both Obafemi Awolowo and Mimiko refute that conclusion violently: the first by his unexampled talent in harnessing the region’s productive abilities, and the other by his unproductive and unimaginative individualism.

More importantly, Ondo people know that they need integration as much as integration needs them, and that it would be tragic if they were left out of the new deal; or that like Afonja in the days of Oyo Empire, they were to allow one man lead them into a revolt against the dominant and progressive ideals that have shaped their region’s history and destiny.
PoliticsRe: "Emperor Tinubu": Akeredolu Says Mimiko Is An Ingrate & Disrespectful by Kabikala(m):
Any dispassionate follower of the trend in the ACN would be worried by the manner of emergence of their candidates which, though did not begin with Akeredolu, is nevertheless inexcusable. While die-hard ACN loyalists will try to justify this bizarre method of choosing candidates without the input of the generality of its membership in a supposedly democratic party, it does not and cannot make it right.
In spite of this however, Mimiko's own situation is not so much different. Can anyone recall any party primaries where Mimiko emerged both in 2007 and 2012? Does anyone know any other leader of the Labour Party apart from Mimiko and Dan Iwuanyanwu? Is this not a case of a single tree (Iroko) making a forest? Does anyone else have a say in the decision-making process of the Labour Party apart from Mimiko? On this matter, Mimiko, just like Tinubu, is another Emperor.
The biggest issue I have against Mimiko is however on the basis of his performance. I am of the view that this guy had so reduced the bar of governance in Ondo State and had brain-washed the people into celebrating embarassing and mediocre accomplishments. Imagine the Governor of a state celebrating projects like constructing roundabouts, car display market, water fountain (a single functional one in the entire state), motor parks, markets, culverts, all projects that a functional Local Government Council will confidently accomplish in a four year tenure. This is the governor of a state earning the fifth highest revenue from oil in the entire country. Compare that to Ajasin who during a four year tenure established about 4 major industries in the state as well as the state University (then Ondo State University, Ado-Ekiti). Compare Mimiko also to Olusegun Agagu who in a five year period opened up roads to the riverine parts of the state for the first time in modern times and constructed more roads than all the past governors of the state combined. Agagu also ensured the construction of thousands of classrooms spread across the entire state during his tenure. Now place that by Mimiko who abandoned classrooms and road projects that were almost completed by Agagu and was not able to complete any of the road projects he started after over 3 years - Oba Adesida Road, Akure dualisation and Akure Road, Ondo dualisation are some examples.

More examples of a regime with lack of focus are as follows:

Mega-schools: Mimiko embarked on the idea of Mega schools where he constructs a huge building from the scratch for primary school pupils in a semi-rural state like Ondo. He has about 4 or 5 of them in the entire state (can't remember the actual number now). Wouldn't it have made more sense to build additional classroom blocks in existing schools, or complete the almost-completed classroom buildings he inherited in order to make sure every neighbourhood has a functional school rather than a Mega school for 3 or 4 LGAs? Does it make sense to build a primary school where people will travel more than one hour twice daily, or improve existing neighbourhood schools five or ten minutes away?

Mother and Child Hospital: Why would an intelligent regime abandon its own General Hospitals and embark on another white elephant project called Mother and Child Hospital? Wouldn't it have made more sense to upgrade existing hospitals and therefore have more functional health delivery outlets in the immediate vicinity where people live rather than building a mega one in Akure? Imagine a woman in labour in Igbokoda needing to get to Akure, more than 2 hours away in order to get good care. The truth is that apart from the Mother and Child Hospital in Akure, no other state-owned public hospital in Ondo State has the capacity to manage serious cases affecting women and children. This is another white elephant project that also shows lack of deep thinking.

Kaadi Igbe Ayo: This is another white elephant idea where the Governor spends billions of naira asking residents of the state to register biometrically and no use has been found for this brain wave of his. Another huge amount of money down the drain.

Civic Centre: The Governor laid the foundation of a mega civic centre in Akure (I can't remember what he actually calls this, but it is like a mega auditorium). From the time of the initial announcement and contract award, nothing has been heard of the idea again.

Farm settlements: The governor promised to bring back the idea of farm settlements based on the vision of Awolowo, but he does not remember, much less act on that these days.

This is a governor that came in on popular goodwill, that promised rather stupidly on the day of his inauguration that no citizen of the state will go to bed hungry (talking before thinking), met 38 billion naira in the treasury, cornered local government allocations for the whole of his tenure having ensured that there was no LGA elections, yet delivering so little.

I am not one of those who will cite his previous position on second term as a reason to oppose his ambition. The constitution allows it and he has a right to change his mind. Most importantly, the people are the ones who will decide if they want him back or not. But I am firmly convinced that he does not have the intellectual capacity to embark on sustainable projects of most benefit to the generality of Ondo State people - you cannot place him side by side governors like Fashola or Donald Duke. He also does not parade a quality cabinet that will generate those good ideas for him - compare the quality and pedigree of his commissioners to those of Lagos or neighbouring Ekiti State.

However, I am not one of those who will under-rate Mimiko and he may actually win in October. He is a damn good politician, big spender and a master at playing to the gallery and preying on peoples' gullibilities. He also has excellent interpersonal relations skills and does not create needless enemies for himself. You only need to meet him to be enamoured by his accessibility and humility.

But if I were to make a choice, I will base it mainly on intellectual capacity and on that score, Akeredolu ranks much higher than Mimiko on ability to reason deeply and be creative, which is what a state like Ondo needs at this point to compete with other oil-producing states like Rivers, Akwa-Ibom and Edo, all making visible progress. If at the end of the day Mimiko wins, it will not be because he is a true performer. It will be because he knows very well how to play to the gallery and hoodwink the people into lowering their expectations of government and to be impressed with mediocrity. But for those who have the ability to look at what the state is capable of accomplishing given its resources, people who have had the opportunity of being in other climes and seeing what a focused government is capable of achieving, an objective assessment of the almost 4 years of Mimiko's rulership in Ondo State can only lead to an obvious conclusion - a regime long on promises and short on tangible accomplishments. To me, Mimiko is an absolute failure.

I am from Ondo State myself.
PoliticsRe: ACN Wins 19 LGAs In Ogun by Kabikala(m):
afam4eva: People will come now and say the election was free and fair because it was ACN that won. Had it been PDP now, people would have said that it was rigged.!!
Okija_juju: Well said my brother, well said..

Like the Igbos would do if its APGA in the East!!
I disagree entirely with these views.

Firstly, no APGA controlled state government had ever conducted Local Government elections in the history of Nigeria so we don't know that this would hold if they do so. That is the reason for the pressure being mounted on Peter Obi by many groups, including his own party Chairman to conduct LGA elections which had failed to hold for about 6 years now in Anambra State. It is apparent that Peter Obi does not believe his party will triumph if he goes ahead to conduct LGA elections so he decides to deliberately engineer delays till his tenure expires. Okorocha (Imo Governor) is the only other APGA Governor and he came in just about a year ago and dissolved the LGA councils, an action that was recently invalidated by the courts.

Secondly, how did you come about the allegation of rigging in this LGA election when the ACN secured more than two-thirds of all contested positions during the 2011 general elections conducted by the FG-constituted INEC? While not ruling out rigging as may happen with politicians, I would prefer evidence-based arguments rather than rumours and generalizations based on what has happened in the past. For example, Oshiomhole won his gubernatorial elections in all 18 LGAs in Edo State this month in a process that was managed by the FG-constituted INEC, would you say he rigged again if his party wins in all 18 LGAs during the LGA elections later?

My point is that it is unfair to classify the Ogun SIEC as partisan or to describe the Ogun LGA elections as a charade without substantiating it. The Ogun State Governor came out to say that this particular LGA election is the best election in the history of Ogun State since 1999; fault him based on facts please, not sentiments.

PoliticsRe: Wole Soyinka Opposes UNILAG/MAU Renaming by Kabikala(m): 9:04am On May 31, 2012
odumorun 1: I strongly disagree with Wole Soyinka on this.

The furore regarding the renaming of Unilag is elitist posturing of the worst kind, dressed up in the garb of democratic protestation. This has nothing to do with anger that the council of the university was not consulted. The university and its senate and governing council do not fund the school. The school is funded by the federal government from the federal purse representing millions of hardworking Nigerians most of whose kids will never enjoy the benfit of a university education let alone a prestigious one like Unilag.

The storm in a tea cup is another example of middle class Nigerians, particularly yoruba ones (the most snobbish and self regarding version and yes i am a Yoruba) refusing to be associated with a person largely revered by the poorer classes. The same happened when Uiversity of Ife was renamed in 1987 in honour of Obafemi Awolowo, when a few hundred students largely of middle class origin demonstrated their objection, while the poor people in the town, carpentars, shoe makers, tailors and others who benefited from awo's reforms celebrated.

This is all about a few priviledged and educated yoruba people wanting to retain what they see as an eleitis label placing them apart from the majority of the population whom they secretly despise. If the school had been named after Barack Obama would they be protesting, even if it was done without consultation - Of course they wouldn't - they'll probably be fantasising about getting an easy visa ride in the American embassy.

Wole Soyinka is a radical and progressive Nigerian but his elitism is a well known flaw which is why he has never inspite of his undoubted courage been able to buod a mass following for his ideas.

Unilag is funded by the majority of the people of this country, not the students or their lecturers. Most ordiany Nigerians respect the sacrifices people like abiola made - they, not the spolit middle class kids kicking up a fuss in Unilag are the majority. The noisy minority in Unilag should be ignored. they will son go back to their Ipads

If they don't like the name when they receive their degrees let them rip them up. They don't own the school, the people do -i've not seen any demonstrations in mushin, shomolu, bere or sabongari against it.

If wole is not happy let him write a poem about his fury. He is a great man, but on this occasion he is wrong
God bless you for this excellent analysis. I also think that progressive student unionism have been decimated in most of our tertiary institutions and what we have as student union leaders these days are high-profile yahoo boys, political thugs, exam cheats and frustrated deportees who have lost all their sense of history and pragmatism that student unionism in Nigeria up to the 90s was renowned for.
PoliticsRe: Sagay, Others Differ Over Renaming Of UNILAG In Honour Of Abiola by Kabikala(m): 1:22pm On May 30, 2012
For almost 18 years, no one deemed it fit to honour the hero of democracy. There has been three Presidents since Abiola died and no one named anything after this martyr. Now Jonathan has done it and those who can never see any good in Jona' are all out to attack him as usual. Who will ever satisfy the professional critics who had vowed to hate GEJ no matter what he does?
As for the UNILAG students, it is obvious they were still in diapers when this man made the huge sacrifice to entrench the democracy they enjoy (without sweating for) today. This is a further evidence of the need to make History a compulsory subject in all our secondary schools so we don't have Nigerian undergraduates who do not know the full meaning of MKO.
I can bet they have never heard of Tai Solarin.

PoliticsRe: Govs Move Against Planned Removal Of Immunity Clause by Kabikala(m):
I am totally with the Governors on this as the presence of the immunity clause is not the real reason the present fight against corruption in Nigeria is ineffective.
We are having the second set of two-term governors in Nigeria and in spite of all the hoopla about battling corruption, not one of the ex-governors have been convicted by any Nigerian court (apart from the slap on the wrist Alamieyesegha got). Even Odili was able to secure a permanent injunction against arrest and prosecution. Other countries involved in the Halliburton, Wilbros and Siemens scandals prosecuted their indicted citizens, but not Nigeria, the country where beneficiaries of the bribe are safely esconced. Congressman Jefferson was convicted in the US for serving as a conduit to funnel bribe to Nigerians, but no Nigerian went to jail for receiving the bribe. In another instance, the EFCC deliberately frustrated the judge handling the Halliburton case in Nigeria by refusing to bring its prosecuting witness for an entire year such that the judge had no choice but to strike out the suit. Were all these as a result of the immunity clause? The answer is no.
After Gani Fawehinmi successfully secured the leave of the court to the effect that, in spite of the immunity clause, governors and other public officials covered by that clause could still be investigated while in office, the work of any serious-minded anti-fraud agency became easier. But what have they done about it? Even Keyamo was not allowed to prosecute the Customs boss (Inde Dikko) on allegations of certificate forgery.
A serious-minded agency desirous of fighting corruption can investigate and prosecute all the accomplices to corruption in government including the finance commissioners, the Accountant Generals, the Auditor Generals, and even the conniving banks. It can always prosecute the governor after leaving office, but have we seen that happen here?
We all saw how Obasanjo used Ribadu to hound Governors who did not do his bidding. Imagine what he could have done during the third term battle if there was no immunity clause to protect dissenting governors.
I am convinced that the intent of Jonathan in pushing for this amendment is to whip governors who do not do his bidding regarding 2015 into line. There is ample opportunity for a serious minded government to fight the overwhelming corruption we are witnessing currently and the immunity clause is not the reason we are not seeing that fight. The House of Representatives subsidy probe report is a good place to start. The Halliburton, Siemens and Wilbros bribery scandals are others.
At this stage of our democracy, the governors are a good check on the awesome powers of the Nigerian president who controls all the levers of power - more than 50% of total national income, controls the armed forces, appoints the Chief Justice of the Federation, appoints the INEC Chairman and commissioners, appoints the head of ICPC and EFCC. We all saw how absolute power could be corrupted under Obasanjo where the national assembly has not been able to provide the required checks and balances.
I say No to immunity clause removal at this point. It is a self-serving agenda by Jonathan. I am totally with the Governors on this as the presence of the immunity clause is not actually hampering the present fight against corruption in Nigeria.

DaLover: @Kobojunkie and ekt_bear,
Y are you both insisting on stuff that is not practicable or enforcable?
I.E family planing in a poor under developed country?

Don't get me wrong, I am for family planning but it cannot work in an under developed country like Nigeria....or any other underdeveloped country (except china...and we all know y).

History and common knowledge has shown that countries that experience economic growth also experience a natural reduction in population growth....weather from USA to Asia to Brazil to Europe... its the same story......while poor countries have high growth rates and the reason is in the original post in case you did not see it..

To poor people having many children is like a lottery, one might make it and rescue the lot, preaching family planing to these set of people will have limited impact...ever wonder why rich or middle class people have fewer children than poor people?
Well, DaLover, regarding the bolded part of your statement, you are absolutely wrong. Many underdeveloped countries are improving access and use of contraceptives for their people. Ethiopia increased its Contraceptive Prevalence Rate (CPR - the proportion of married women of reproductive age using a modern contraceptive method) from 8% in 2000 to 15% in 2005 and 29% in 2011, yet they are a very poor country. While Nigeria has a CPR of 10%, Ghana has 19%, India 49% and Iran 77%. In Brazil, average number of children per woman is 2.5 while Nigerians have an average of 5.7. All these countries are developing countries but you can see that those that prioritize the issue of how to address population explosion are all making progress.
It is like the egg and chicken. Do you wait for development before checking unrestrained population growth? Or you tackle the challenge of population explosion in your quest to achieve development?

@Kobojunkie: Thumbs up for your ability to see the big picture!
PoliticsRe: Bomb Explosion At Sabon Gari In Kano by Kabikala(m): 5:55am On Apr 16, 2012
I understand the argument of Muslims on this forum in trying to equate what Boko Haram is doing with other atrocities perpetrated in the past by people who most likely professed Christianity.

In other words, Christians had spearheaded human carnage in the past, Islam is simply trying to catch up. Excellent justification by a religion of "peace".
PoliticsRe: Nigeria Tested By Rapid Rise In Population - NYT by Kabikala(m):
Please visit Nigeria's National Population Commission (NPopC) website or "google" Nigeria Demographic and Health Survey 2008 to compare fertility rates between the north and south. Averagely women in the north have more than 7 children compared to the south (between 4 and 5). It is therefore true that abokis are over-breeding compared to southerners.
In addition, the point is not just the total population, but more important is the rate of population growth. Even China and India with their huge numbers have limited their growth. No nation has ever developed without controlling population growth because it takes time and resources to translate population into development. Do you think Nigeria can double the number of schools, roads, hospitals, electricity that we will need if our population is to double every 25 years.
Last word: Unless and until we are able to limit population explosion, development will continue to elude us.

Whenever I develop the emotional strength to share my story, I certainly will.
At the moment, I am content to savour the extremely touching experiences of several people here.
PoliticsRe: Switch Off Mtn Line Protest By 12:00 Noon For 7 Days by Kabikala(m): 2:46pm On Mar 07, 2012
I am on board with this protest and will switch off my MTN line for 5 minutes. It is legitimate and will hurt South Africa more than it will hurt Nigerians working for MTN.
What can we do to also register our dipleasure against other SA companies like DSTV and Shoprite? I am on board with everything before these guys go too far.
If we have to create a perfect protest that will not hurt any Nigerian before we participate, then we will never protest against anything. The history of the world was shaped by those who took action  even when there were collateral damages, not by those who have good reasons for not doing anything.

This is superstory!
A man who did all he could to get an illegal third term in office is recruited to mediate in another situation where the prinicpal also wants a third term.

OBJ: Abdoul, this third term thing is not good for your country. It is actually a shame to Africa that we could not succcessully midwife transitions from one government to another without acrimony.

Wade: Olusegun, I appreciate your brotherly advice. But I am only taking a cue from you. In 10 years' time, I might also be invited to mediate in another African leader sit-tight situation.
CelebritiesRe: The Three Divas Of Talk Show In Nigeria, Who Do You Consider The Best? by Kabikala(m):
All three of them are trash. I prefer to watch "Gbajumo Osere" by Adedoyin Kukoyi, "Gbamu gbamu" with Gbenga Adeyinka or AY Show by AY.
However, in order of dislike, I dislike Mo most: she tries too hard to be Oprah and she is too fake. I am sure she is only popular because she knows people. She has no talent.
Agatha is even more unreal and her audience always appear prompted into giving applause; they are probably bored like we viewers.
Funmi Iyanda would have passed for a good talk show host for me until she dabbled into the subsidy debate and exposed her ignorance during an AIT interview last month. I decided I might have probably overrated her intelligence.
PoliticsRe: Us Envoy Says No Soldiers To Nigeria by Kabikala(m): 6:07pm On Feb 24, 2012
I am amazed at the kind of unbelievable postings being made on this thread. While one is saying the US only gets involved in the affairs of countries that has oil, another says they are involved in Afghanistan. Does Afghanistan have oil?
While one blames US for assisting Libyan rebels in toppling Gaddafi, others are blaming them for refusing to bring in troops into Nigeria because they don't like us. Imagine if the headline had been "US to bring in troops into Nigeria", I can bet that everyone here will attack them for threatening our sovereignty and seeking to take over our oil.
I can boldly say without fear of contradiction that while the US is actively pursuing its own interest (like every country should), it had never pursued a deliberate agenda at destabilizing Nigeria and will not benefit from doing so.
And to those who think China is a better ally than the US, you only need to know how the country treats its citizens who are in the opposition and how well the rights of everyone is respected to appreciate the good in America that Nigeria should emulate.
Why does everyone like to go to America and not China or Russia that some of you guys are promoting as models?

And thanks Gerrard for getting the point.
PoliticsRe: Kano Mayhem: Soldiers, Police Killed Civilians, Not Boko Haram – Shekau by Kabikala(m): 10:39am On Jan 27, 2012
@ doofanc and Rich4God:
I agree with you guys.
These BH guys are trying too hard to win back the local populace after their last Kano massacre boomeranged on them. Ordinarily, this should have been a  triumphant and chest thumping feat for them, but they obviously miscalculated the reaction of the majority of their kinsmen which has overtly been condemnatory, unlike the usually muted reactions in past attacks.
