First Nigeria was a secular state…for a good reason too!
Democracy came in…so did bad politians
For popularity, most of the bad politians of the North introduced Sharia…bad bad idea
Religion and Government should never mix.

That wasn't enough, now groups like gboko haram want more and are terrorizing their own…most of it's victims are muslims in sharia/muslim states!
We know Naija has corruption problems but now this is getting compounded by islamic fundamentalism. We can argue the reason why groups like gboko haram exist in the first place is due to poverty and disgruntled youths, these was caused by decades of corruption. The gap between the rich and poor is far greater in the north than any other part of Nigeria, and that is saying something as we all know the gap is huge is Nigeria as a whole.

Introducing Islamic laws in regions where you have muslims and christians (no matter how small the minority) is a bad idea, but Nigeria is a country with no logic or common sense displayed by both government and majority of citizens.

On the issue of religion, can we actually as Nigerians do anything right? MOST of the churches are corrupt and some muslims are hell bent on turning Nigeria into Afghanistan. Gboko Haram should be nipped in the bud NOW. No matter how brutal the method, I will support it. Eliminate the @ssholes now and discuss the methods used later. Fire for Fire.

Other issues also need to be addressed if Nigeria . Corruption should be eliminated in all aspects of Naija life, this starts at grassroot level (police checkpoints, local government), through to private sector such as CHURCHES (Yes, Naija churches are private sector businesses with no accountability for earnings and they steal from the most vulnerable), and all the way to the top of Government.

Nigerian police force should be revamped, it is not fit for purpose. Just shows how incompetent the force is when an upstart third-rate terror organisation (that is what gboko haram is afterall) can be so brazen to plant a bomb in the police compound, without security checks to prevent entry. Start by sacking the head of police and all regional heads, get top policemen on secondment from abroad to run the current mess, there is a state of emergency in our security forces and we need foreign intervention. In the long-term, all police recruits should be University graduates who have common sense as default, i.e. graduates will start from private level, to corporal, sergeant, And pay them good salaries like graduate entry civil service jobs.

Nothing works in Nigeria, so by definition it is a FAILED STATE. It has failings in Government, Education, Health, Power, Transport and most importantly Football LOL.

Naija sucks, most Churches in Nigeria suck, Sharia Anywhere sucks, gboko haram sucks

I am forever going to be an Infidel.

Omosetan Omoyorun.
Chineke!!! What are you planning to do about this then?

@poster I prefer Tall, Handsome and Rich. I don't care much for skin color, he could come in pink for all i care. It is true that women like personality and character 1st but Looks always comes in at a close 2nd. Asking a woman if they care about looks is like asking a man if he cares about butt and bosoms, its a certainty that they do. We are genetically predisposed to like strong men and often times we associate tall with strong, rich as security, and handsome as future beautiful kids. wink

I think they should bring in western style bomb squads to help clean up the mess call Boko Haram or train the army or policemen(whoever deals with these bomb issues) like how they train those soldiers in Afgan or even the Bomb Squads. .

Dammit, do they even have people who investigate these people? Do they even have undercovers? Do they have the right people to deal with Boko Haram?
Do they have STRATEGY?

Chii, Africa!! Why do you always have to have western intervention for you to deal with your countries situations?

@Kandiikane
I understand the religious/spiritual angle that you are coming from. I respect your opinion just like I am entitled to mine, we are all free to believe what we want to believe. The difference in opinions which we are all expressing here is what makes us different. Thanks for sharing.

Come girlfriend, I am surprised at you. I have been marvelling at your command of English here so far and can't help wondering what gave you the audacity to perch on my post in the other thread and edit my English expressions. I am not about to stoop as low as you stooped there, just
surprised at your use of English here dearie. You were trying to make me out as somebody that cannot express herself in English when that is not so. You even went to the extent of cancelling my posts, wrongly editing and making fun of my post with others (when you don't even know me! that was a huge joke girl.)

You don't mess around with people you do not know dearie. I hope you now understand that you don't ridicule others at the expense of having fun. I don't intend to carry grudge over trifles, if not I won't have engaged in a discussion with you in this thread. I'm only trying to make you understand that what you did is not good. I hope we remain good nairalander friends that have respect for each other's opinion from now on. Thanks.
I told you before on that other thread I was kidding and I know we are online and not having an English exam. . . We are on WWW. and I do not know anyone so I really do not care because this will not affect the way you live your life. . .I stopped when you reported me and moved on from that page- If you want to go back to that issue I can join you.

Ok, sorry to burst anyone's bubble but. . .

The phrase "tall, dark and handsome" was first used by white people to describe tall darker skinned Caucasians with dark hair and dark eyes and sometimes used to describe a mysterious man not a black man but since we are in the 21st century whatever floats your boat. . .

@Mekaboy, I am the one who said it is silly for you to say if they cannot find husbands they should just live their lives. . .

My point is how can they live their lives when they have been living for so long and now all they want to do is settle down. . .Should she just stop searching for husbands? Many of these women tend to marry younger men which in certain societies it is frown upon(although maybe the young men are just in there for the money but if the women are happy good for them). ,   Many of these older women don't have time to play games they just want settle down and I see no problem in kicking out a useless guy who just wants to play around

It is getting difficult because of people not respecting the constitution of marriage anymore. . .

Yes it is true because many women have become so cheap the men want to taste the milk before buying the cow. . .

You have to understand that marriage cannot come naturally in the era we in. . .If you  already having sex with the guy and maybe have 1 or 2 kids with the man he will be like well I have everything so I do not see the use of getting married. . Even though the woman has given the man everything she is likely to still want to marry and the push has to come from her.

@IFYNWA, in regards to you saying adam and eve were not married in the bible- You need to understand with marriage its not just the legal ceremony that makes it a marriage. . Eve was given to Adam by God made specifically for him and God gave them the permission to become one flesh(sex) and multiply. This was God officially giving Eve to adam as a bride. The wedding ceremonies came when there were more people on Earth to celebrate the union of two people. Adam and Eve were married just that they did not have a wedding ceremony. . .To be marriage depends on the laws of the land. . .If the laws of the land says to be married to your future wife you have to take Kola nut to the brides father and he has to bless you and give you his daughter then that is it. . .If the laws of the land require a huge wedding for you to be married then that is it. . .But one think you have to understand is the official stamp for two to become one is not the legal papers or the ceremony it is sex. . .That is why fornicating is wrong and adultry because your spirits get bound together. . .
Many believers who want to be married go to their Gods first to ask for blessings. . . Because not many people bring God in their relationships the thing turns usually turns out sour.
I believe some women cannot get married  because of their promiscuity during their youthful days. . .All the spirits(from different men) that get bound to you can have repercussions in the future. .It will be harder for men to come close to you because those spirits. . .

@meka, alright fine. . .Having a a husband and family is part of the success in life for many people. . .Its not all about being successful moneywise or being successful in contributing to humanity. . .

All the above can be possible in a lifetime.

You can be married and still succeed in life.
But if a woman just wants to get married and have a family without any goals in life(money wise or contributions to humanity or building an empire) that is her own bread and butter. . .
I can bet you that these girls who you say only goals in life are to find a husband will marry a sugardaddy instead of a random okada boy. . .

^^^I have never met anyone who does not want to succeed in life instead all they want to do is get married. . .

Jesus' mission in his life was to come and die but noone knows whether or not he was intimate with Mary Magdalene(God forgive me)

you have to research thoroughly on Paul's meaning on celibacy- which many Christians have misunderstood as being celibate in regards to sex

But since we are talking about commitment:

You either choose celibacy or marriage
As a believer I do think if you are fornicating you should have plans to get married so to not live in sin for the rest of your life but if you don't want to then the next option is celibacy

Btw, you cannot possibly be sure on God's thoughts on the world's population. . .Do not blaspheme

Ivynwa:
Sweetheart, there is a difference between being married and having a man in your life. One can have a man friend to lean on with no plans of procreating with him or tying the knots. It is a matter of choice and that I think is what this thread is about.
The Poster was concerned about the desperation on both men and women to get married which is caused by a factor (societal pressure) that should not be the main factor motivating marriage.
There is a huge difference with marriage and having a male "friend" in your life-yes because marriage represents the union between God and his people and also for man and woman. . .Unless you are not spiritual then you do whatever you want but if you have a male friend and you love each other and you both want to spend your lives together the thing to make it whole is marriage.
We are in a world where beliefs are instilled at a very young age and are a part of life. Attraction for the other sex or same for some people comes at a very young age and we know that the end result of this attraction is what leads to marriage. . .Marriage comes from people's beliefs and many do not just one to live with someone without the union of marriage. . .If we were living in a world where spirituality and beliefs were not around then I do not think marriage would be either. . There are many women who are living in places where marriage is not forced on them but  their choice to get married, to have that union with someone. Nowadays, many men just want to sleep with you and leave and many men/women who have beliefs want to have the union first before knowing eachother sexually and because of the lack of many men/women not wanting that it leads to the desperation to find someone who has the same beliefs to them. . .
I do know many women are being forced in marriages they do not want to be in but I also know that many of these women want to find someone they love who loves them back to marry.
If you noticed- the dreams of a human to get married stems from childhood-where they plan the man/woman they want to marry, how they want their weddings to be etc.
We are in the times where people do not respect the constitution of marriage anymore which is leading to women/men having children with different people, having sex with anybody without a care in the world. . .Some people do not want that, some people want to grow up, become successful, get married and have children and most importantly have God in their lives. . .
For the OP to say people who are not married should just live their lives is just silly. . .You have been living your life for so long and all you now want to do is settle down and build a family.

Offtopic- I do not see the point in two people who love eachother dearly and want to spend the rest of their lives together not get married. . .I just do not get it. . .If you want to be together why not just get married and have your children in the stronghold of your marriage?

Envy has more than one meaning; it isn't only jealousy. Envy, jealousy, unhappiness, heartache, all go hand in hand and can lead to someone becoming desperate. Someone wouldn't become desperate in this situation if she wasn't envious of someone else's situation in the first place.
I have given you two sides of a story.

She was already desperate before seeing her mates with a family. . .Her mates situation only heightens the desperation and heartache even more. . .
It is not envy- with envy you tend to lean more on the resentful side. . .

It is silly- You say people take marriage as a do or die affair how about people's desperation on a do or die success in life? It all goes hand in hand. . .

Just like from a young age humans plans are to become successful in life so is people's plan to also get married and have children.

Should we also say success is not for everyone? There are mad men around who would use their success and power against humanity

If you can agree that marriage and children are not for everyone then success and money is not also for everyone. .

Ogugua88,
You see your mates with husband get jealous/hate her for it and  do something drastic about your mate's situation(maybe steal the husband)-envy
You are not envious of your mates because the desire to have a husband and children stems from you.
It becomes envy If you have never wanted marriage nor children but then become resentful towards your mates possession after seeing how happy she is with her husband and family

My post on "seeing your mates with a husband and family" is not based on envy but despair, desperation and heartache- which was already there but worsened by seeing your age mates with what you desire but don't have. . .

Layman's term
Eg: I want a certain type of shoes I saw in a store window but cannot afford and so I left the store unhappy. . .Next day I see my friend with those shoes I want  this will make me more unhappy and I become more desperate to get the shoes- This is not me being envious

I see my friend with the shoes I become jealous and I resent her for it, I might then steal the shoes when she is not looking or destroy it-this is me being envious
