I think that what you need is to package the application with the Database in a jar file and then deploy the application. If you need any speciific help or have any more questions, post in this topic. Rip |
AT least we gave come to a concensus that we are both mad! That is a start. Now to measure the boundaries of our insanity. Now you mention facts! Name one fact that you have pointed in this thread? Can you differentiate between a matter of fact and an opinion? Was I wrong in stating that you cannot possible decipher asm program? Do you know what DBMS will used when you deploy your online payment facility , or whatever you call that 'thing' you are putting on amazon? Can you create a DBMS with Python? Or is 'Hello World' the measure of your abilities? Make no mistake, its not my madness that makes me able to see beyond your naivete, its my programming know-how! And please don't speak to other members of the fora as they are sane and may not understand you! Keep your malady to yourself as I have Your fellow Madman, Another Dollarland creator |
I'm convinced without any sort of doubt that this aitotomige fellow is mad. First he comes to a Nigerian Programmer froum and starts a topic 'Why are Nigerian Programmers so dumb'? Then he proceeds to go on some senseless rant about how what programming languages define how intelligent people are, how social websites such as facebook only have clones and some more putrid nonesense that my brain must have vomited on immediate consumption and as such I am incapable of repeating. Just because you *intend* to develop some funny thing on Amazons servers in Ireland/Europe does not give you the right to tell us whether one language is better than the other, or what we should develop with our time and our talent. The fact that in your infinite 'wisdom' your biggest accomplishment (or at the very least what you believed would impres us ) was the development of an e-purchase site which will be hosted by Amazon gives me a brief insight into what kind of person you are. I'd be more impressed if you hosted it yourself and devloped the dbms with which you host your site completely in Python with complete RDBMS ACIDIDTY! Using your (terrribly flawed) logic, the most useless/incapable/verbose programming language on this planet is Assembly Language! Someone please change this topic to ' Why is aitoehigie so naive?' Your Good Friend The Nigerian |
You see what happens when you don't specify things in the 'Programming' Section of Nairaland? You get a link to a persons blog who may or may not be talking about the same thing u r on about! Anyways, please be specific. What kind of email are we dealing with hia? POP or IMAP? POP means the type of email ISPs and Webservers give you. IMAP means Yahoo Mail or Gmail! Awaiting ur reply! |
I've been told I'm pretty cynical. I wasn't too sure as to what cynicism entailed so I checked dictionary.com which stated that cynicism is being 'bitterly or sneeringly distrustful, contemptuous, or pessimistic'. And to the best of my knowledge they are right!(Although I have also contemplated the fact that the website was lying! ![]() Now my question: Who is going to guarantee me the accuracy of your data/information/quotes? Are you using some remote trading software to retrieve/obtain the quotes? I mean how am I going to be sure that I won't wake up to some trumped up price quotes which may or may not be used to your advantage? I am not accusing you of anything but before I implement any sort of dataservice on my website I have to ensure that the data is authentic. I am sorry but I feel that is the nature of the field you are dabbling into! Unless when you said 'we got together' meant that you and the Nigerian Stock Exchange or the CSCS got into a Satanic relationship to provide data services then I am sorry that I will only be able to provide you with testing space (and of course expertise) on my companys webspace! But the promise is there, I'll give you that! |
I'm happy that not everyone thinks I am talking out of my backside! ![]() As I said earlier the problems with Software Development in this country are too numerous and pretty much all of them are chronic and fatal. Ranging from the attitude of Executives to anything IT to the Otigba Market, too many factors play against the Software Developer and Software Development in Nigeria! As for the guy that said that 'Connections' was needed in Nigeria, I fear that is another reason why software development in this country is pretty much comatose! I am quite certain that you didn't have this in mind but it is not hard to imagine how connections have allowed people with crap Software Imagination and even worse Software Applications to be granted Software Projects. I mean has anyone tried to use cscsnigerialtd.com or nigeria.com( which was apparently sponsored by the Nigerian Government!)? The CSCS website is damn near unusable during working hours in Nigeria and isn't completely functional with the second most popular browser on the planet (Firefox)! In fact the site started messing up with IE as well just so that firefox didn't feel left out. And its also 'Proudly Nigerian'! There is no single Nigerian application (that I am aware of) which is used en masse by any noticeable populace outside these shores. And to be particularly honest I don't think there is any Nigerian Software used in Nigeria by any notice populace within the country! I happily stand to be corrected in anything I've said in the previous paragraph. We need some 'Dansa' or perhaps better 'Fruta' software in this country! And yes I'm a programmer. And a crap one at that, at least by my own standards! But the fact that I, in my crap state, can still break the security of 80% of the Nigerian Software I have come across gives you an impression of the esteem in which I hold Software Development in this Nation. I have not developed Software 'professionally' but if I were to be the author of any financial software in this country in its current state, I'd be terribly dissapointed in myself! |
Maybe I'm not as happy or optimistic as my fellow posters to this thread, but I fear I will have to take a different perspective from what everyone else has said. In my opinion, unless you are outstanding(or believe you can be 'with good reason') in programming then choose Networking everytime! Now when I say outstanding I mean that you'd be so good in programming whatever the language to be used for the program. From SQL to Assembly, Coldfusion to Esterel. You must be 'the' complete programmer! And you must truly LOVE programming because the matter of fact is that when you start in Software Development in this country you might have to tolerate getting paid just enough to transport you to the office and back home! I am of the belief that the reason why Networking is saturated is because its much easier to learn and you get paid much more for expertise than for programming! Do you know how mcuh you'd get paid for being able to 'configure'( which may involve programming) a Cisco VOIP router to send email/records calls after calls from certain IPs are made/received! Do you think it'd be the same if you created a program to generate 256-bit Security Certificates Hashes which could could be used to transport, say EMail messages across unsecured networks as well as guarantee non-collision for a very high amount of input combinations and was immune to the current Debian SSL Debacle, even if run on Debian/Ubuntu? Hence why I am suggesting it! I won't be surprised to hear that the best programmers in this country are working for Shell/Chevron/ExxonMobil doing pet projects at home to remind themselves that they are programmers. I can't blame them! The VB programmers who develop our in-house application where I work get paid something around the region of 60K a month. I mean. That is ridiculous! And my co-workers wonder why it takes a long time for signature uploading functionality to be added to the application! Another funny example, A friend of mine wanted to help a dry-cleaners to develop some software which would help the owner track all transactions done by his workers. It had some long list of features he wanted which included the ability to track when one of his workers tried to cheat him(How he expects this to be done I will never know), the application should stop/ or report workers whenever they 'tried' modify a price for a type of garment, it should place an audit for everything any user did ( except himself of course which is itself a security risk in itself). He also wanted to be able t track it from the comfort of his home!He wanted to pay 20K for the application! There are so many reasons why I feels Software Development is stunted but that is for another thread! For everything I said beforehand I stand to be corrected! |
Nothing seems to be wrong with the code, although I must confess that I am a Java Programmer ![]() Anyways is the SQL string that u displayed the actual one that is generated by the code or what YOU EXPECT to be generated from the code. If it was actually generated from the code , then you can simply copy and paste the code into your SQL Manager and see if it executes on its own. If it doesn't execute then you really are in the shit! From what I can see the only possible source of error is the spaces between the commas in the insert values. But that shouldn't be a big deal! If that fails I'm sure it would have to do with the structure of your table but I seriously doubt it reaches that far! |
Well I've not tried this before but if you do have the form designed in XML then you have to use some form of XQL (i.e. XML Query Language) to execute any sort of query. Try seaching on Google for 'XML Query Language' to get some probable solutions but this might be DBMS-specific. If you don't want to learn XML ( which would be kinda silly since you have a form created in XML) you might want to write a [rogram in Java or C++ or C# to connect to the Database and execute the stored procedure and also generate the XML file, which you can then generate a form out of. All of this is theoretical of course but I hope it helps. |
I don't think setting such a HUGE task will be clever. If I was the one leading the project I would insist that the aim is very small so that when that is delivered we would still know who would still be interested in the project and the working members will see something tangible and something that we can improve on. It would give the group a whole lot of confidence when they see a deliverable and it will also ensure that each module/part of the application is given enough attention and hence quality is improved. Just a thought. Will talk more over the weekend |
Hello All, Please if a meeting time has not been decided, I will be available for any sort of e-meeting over the weekends that would be fine for me. And regarding Federal Govts Plan to create a similar application to what we are planning, My advise is not to worry too much about that! As long as it is the Nigerian Govt, there is a high probability it will never get off the ground. You will not believe the amount of politics that goes into any Government Project! Lets us continue with what we are doing I'm sure ours will at least be better than whatever the Nigerian Govt. can bring up, either in cost or quality! Now with regards to the system, please can someone give me some sort of Software Boundaries stating exactly what the Software WILL and WILL NOT do cos right now I still don't know( Please don't be angry @ me Kobo! ![]() The Net Support App Kobo recommended does so much its quite incomprehensile that our application should be done according or following such precidents. So any help on the Software Functionality would be nice! K |
Now speaking from my limited reserve of common sense and assuming that you are using an Authentic copy of Windows 2003, I would believe that the amountof Installations that you are allowed to would depend on the options your license provides you with. If you have a single PC license then No, you won't be allowed to install on multiple PCs but if you have a multiple PC license then you will be allowed to install on as many PCs as your license stipulates. Now if you bought your Windows 2003 CD from Otigba it is quite likely that none of what I just said will apply, so CARRY ON INSTALLING!! ![]() |
You have 2 install some packages, like the GNU C Compilation package and all its pre-requisites and things like that. Cos u have refused to search, I have done the search for you and come up with this. https://help.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/desktopguide/C/programming.html I hope it helps cos It should!! Now if u don't understand what the link is trying to say, well maybe u should 'postpone' the programming u were intending on doing. :-) |
Sorry to dissapoint you mate but there is no such thing. Have you ever been to the website of the Stockbroking Data Centre -- the CSCS-- website during the day? The thing takes like 20 minutes to load! Now do you think that those kind of people will be thinking of RSS or CSV? They won't even know the meaning of WSDL! They have certain rules and the only thing online is their website. Sorry but Welcome to Naija. I know all this cos I was employed to accomplish something like that for a stock broking firm. Needless to say I failed woefully. |
I don't claim to know a lot in this but I did do a course in my Uni about this and we had to program a Lego Robot. At the end of the day the robot could move, detect wall bumps and take apropriate actions and then calculate the distance it has travelled. We had to the Most of the programming using a language called pbForth( although I hear that it is possible to do this as well using a more modern programming language like Java). The programs are developed on the programmers machine and then uploaded into the Memory of the robot(using a USB connection) where it can then be executed. If you can investigate 'Lego Mindstorm NXT' , I'm sure you will find out a lil bit bout them and u will find that the hardest thing about them is the price u will need to pay for one of those Robot Kits! As for programming other devices, i know most people use Assembly Language and C as these languages tend to allow the programmer gain direct access to the memory blocks and structures within a device. I hope this helps! |
I wouldn't call myself a definitive on Ubuntu but I think u need to download and install some packages using Aptitude on a Raw Ubuntu Installation before you can DO ANY SORT OF PROGRAMMING. I can't remember the actual error you get but I'm sure if you 'Google' it , u'd get some solutions. Best of Luck with that. But U will need the internet to download the Packages. |
Hello Kobo, I think the guy that asked about IP was not talking about Internet Protocol address but rather about Intellectual Property. If the product ever gets 'sellable' then you can bet your last =N=100 that people who contributed to the project will want their share, whether it be open ,closed or 'face-me-i-face-you' source. They will want their share. Although I do believe that MySQL AB has some sort of agreement with the initial co-developers that we could maybe investigate. About features and all that, I really think that the software MUST be pluggable. That is let the organisations pick and choose what features they want and maybe even charge them for features purchased! What do you think? And as for the Skype thing, well I don't intend on hving it! I already have Yahoo Messenger, that should be enough. What is your Yahoo ID? And please put an (f) after your name. You won't believe how shpcked I was when I recieved an email from someone who shared the same name with Tracy Chapman! ![]() |
I'm sorry to break this to you but if this is the position that was advertised with 2 other positions for IT, then all tests have been done. I hear people are waiting for results but I don't know if they have been released and those waiting just failed! Anyways, just wait for the next one eh! |
Now I could give you the answer to this ORRR I could tell you to google for 'disable maximize button'. Google for 'disable maximize button' ![]() I saw your last program and u need to be more independent. Tell me what ur final solution was. |
Depends on you really. Which do you prefer networking or programming? If networking CCNA , if programming SCJP. Simple really! BTW if you want to make money quickly , then I recommend CCNA. SCJPs are not very well appreciated in this country. |
My Advice , Get out while you still CAN! ![]() The smileys above indicate the emotions I go through while developing applications. Do you really want to go through those?? K |
I will try to be as blunt as possible and hence I have broken the topics into sub-categories based on your capabilites: If you are VERY GOOD: 1) Create a brand new programming language with similar semantics to Java the programming language by executing Program code within a sandbox( Virtual Machine) and improves memory management and speed issue found with the Java Programming language. You could also add the ability for your own VM to target other languages 2) Create a functional robot using the LEjos ( Legos Java Operating System )to perform various human like activities 3)Create a virtualised Java Operating System ( or at least Investigate into the requirements for creating one and implement some features like file systems, file management and user accesss control) If you JUST DEY THERE: 1) Create a Java Messaging Application, aimed at the Linux OS which uses an underlying C program to transmit messages between clients while relying on the Java front end to display messages and recieve input 2) Create a full blown School Management System , intact wit Student Registration and Payment Management, library Registration and Library Management System. The system must USE advanced features of Java such as RMI and CORBA 3) Create an AJAX web app using AJAX technologies to allow a user perform a 'direct' search from one web page to numerous search prviders such as Google and Yahoo! If you JUST WAN PASS: Write a school management program and add what you can. Write a document management system which allows for scanning of images for both the Windows and Linux OS's Write a Mobile Calculator that can be used on mobile phones and helps in currency conversion. Hope this helps. And No, I can't do most of it! ![]() Good Luck! |
Is there any such thing as a Javascript component? I've heard of HTML components but Javascript? What do you mean? Why would you need a time picker? Sorry for being so inquisitive but I am a web programmer and I have never heard of a javascript component before. I think I can be of help if you reply. Kanirip |
Hello all, I am impressed by the thought process of KoboJunkie and I would like to enlist myself as one of the possible contributors to this projectors if that is OK. My major specialities revolve around Enterprise Software Development but unfortunately I have only tested myself with Java (althought I am in the process of learning C#) but I hope I can be of some assistance as I also have experience as a DBA and DB Developer with various DBMS such as MySQL and MS SQL Server and Oracle and even SQL Lite. I can also perform Software Testing! SO any sort of assistance I can give will be given happily. I fear the problem for Open-Source is that it simply can not thrive in a developing country for the mere fact that a people must be comfortable before they can contemplate even developing software and listing them under a license that states that your code is redistributable for NO charge at all! It is a difficult concept to grasp! For example, the person who worked with the scheduling mechanism module in Liunux was a zoo-keeper in Australia who created the module( I hear he wasn't even a programmer when he started looking at linux code) and received nothing for it. He just liked 'playing with things'. Its very difficult to 'play with things' in this country when NEPA can strike an any time, when you are thinking of how to get to work the next morning( on time and not get robbed in a bus) and how not to get robbed that night! Ironically enough I don't think its software developers that can establish Open Source in this Country. It's Everyone else! My email address: kanirip@gmail.com Take Care. K |
I have some Ideas but I'm not sure if they apply to C++ , especially the Windows version. Firstly I doubt you can do this without adding a lot of extra code to your app. If I was doing this and I had already created a 'database App' and I needed to makje sure some sort of concurrency and database/program synchronization was maintained ( which I deduce is what you are trying to do) then I would create a seperate 'Maintainer' Thread. This thread would check the database after every couple of seconds( in the background of course) for changes in a recordset ( or table) and update the running program as necessary. I think this would accomplish your task. If you wanted to go astep further , you could create a fully distributed app and yo, I'm sure you don't wanna hear all of this. Just see if you can do step 1, i fear its the only way! And BTW, any Applications that uses Asynchronous communication is, theoretically, an AJAX application. ![]() K |
I don't understand it! I really don't! I know Nigeria is bad and terribly unsafe but surely Jesus Christ didn't perform miracles by waking up in the morning, did He? I have to quote David Hume The Christian Religion not only was at first attended with miracles, but even at this day cannot be believed by any reasonable person without one. Mere reason is insufficient to convince us of its veracity: and whoever is moved by Faith to assent to it, is conscious of a continued miracle in his own person, which subverts all the principles of his understanding, and gives him a determination to believe what is most contrary to custom and experience. That is all! |
