R.I.P |
I recently saw the movie series that is based on George R.R Martin's books, and I really enjoyed the series. I realised I have had the eBooks for a long time even though I hadn't been able to get to it. Anyway I started the books right after (I rather prefer reading books before I watch their movie adaptations), and I loved the books at the start, but as I go along I'm not too sure of how I feel again. The writer doesn't seem to follow conventional rules of writing. I was wondering if anyone else has read the books/feels the same way. I wouldn't mind recommendations for other great fantasy epics as well |

^^^ you're right. I think what I find most shocking is that a good proportion of the people posting replies here are exposed (at least they have internet connections so that ought to count for something, right?). Yet the words flying from their finger tips are so filled with ignorance and short-sightedness that I almost can't believe the things I'm reading. Money is NOT everything in life. Money makes the worst master ever. If you worship money, be prepared to leave happiness, peace and contentment behind. Many Nigerians are fond of the term 'hustle' and I'm more convinced than ever that the average Nigerian youth is no longer prepared to work hard and grow. They don't waste time zooming to 'plan B' >>>rob them Blind and legitimise it<<< |
@Siena Thank you o! I left this thread yesterday cos I was quite disappointed and depressed at the replies. It seems 'stealing/robbery' has been nicely glossed over as 'scam/yahoo' and is a viable option in people's mind as a good way to obtain wealth. No values, no morals, all I hear is excuses to cheat others of their possessions. Nigeria is very nearly done for; the rot has reached the core |
Well, after going through this thread, I can honestly say my hopes and dreams for Nigeria just took 10 steps backwards. The future is really bleak if this is how Nigerians think. Someone's brother acquired illegal wealth and others are telling him to 'lock up' and look the other way. If we who should know better are this way, I wonder what our children will be like when they come of age |
@OP your question is not unreasonble. I met a farmer about 3 weeks ago buying a carton of vegetable oil. I was so surprised I asked him why he needed so much veg. oil and he replied saying he mixes it with his diesel for his engine. He explained that he has a mixing ratio which works for him and he's been doing it for a while. He uses a different mix in winter from the one he uses in summer. If you're willing to take the risk then I'd advise you to do some research on the subject, and start slow. Good luck. By the way, I'm from Ekiti. We REASON ![]() |
"These curses in Psalm 109 are not the rantings of someone deep in sin. The verses framing the curses (vs. 1-5 and 21-31) make clear that this is a humble servant of God, not a bloodthirsty revenge seeker. The curses in Psalm 109 echo the warnings against disobedience in Deuteronomy 28. Therefore, the key to understanding this Psalm is the covenant with Israel. The psalmist is reminding God of these curses and asking God to deal with his enemies, fellow Israelites, under the terms of the Deuteronomic covenant, because their enmity is evidence of their disobedience to the covenant." There is a time for everything. A time to bless, and a time to curse. If ALL scripture is God-breathed (and I firmly believe this one is) then David was in the right position to pronounce these curses, or judgements as the case may be. My 2 cents |
@erico2k2 Starts with V huh? verry niice congrats! @OP the job situation is global, and the tales of woe spread across many continents. If you have a brilliant job in the UK then life won't be half bad! *still looking for my pot of gold at the end of the rainbow* ![]() |
Hahaha, I maintain my position, but true, let's not go religious and derail the thread. Another time and place, maybe ![]() |
BABE!:^^Just to let you know there's no scriptural basis for this one o :-x |
@erico2k2, what industry do you work in? (sorry, not my intent to derail the thread) |
the issue is that I have personal goals to meet, and going to Nigeria right now won't help. Man must hustle. Life is horribly expensive, but hey, I'll pay my dues and strive hard. People everywhere have unique challenges they face. Trust me, as much as Nigeria is home anytime, you need to know what some people are facing there as well. I'll leave when its time to go, job or no job. @Southwark, keep hanging in there, something will come through sooner or later (hopefully sooner) |
@southwark - true talk. Life in the UK is hard, but then its a choice most of us made either when we decided to come, or when we got here and saw wassup. To the person that said jobs are everywhere, thank God for you, but try stepping into another man's shoes (trying to get a job for 9 months and coming up blank is no joke) |
xxxkubexxx, jellyface, OP, mehn I raise a glass for you guys, and for myself we all got our stories but I'll spare you mine. Good you've moved on bro. |
baslone:hahahaha ![]() I remember those guys: terrors in the department ![]() |
Ohh, I see!! Thanks @Lexander I can understand why many Nigerians' focus is limited to pinging/BB. The data allowances offered by Nigerian mobile networks is appalling! ![]() |
Nigerians sha, like sheep; following every fad, imitating, but not quite grasping the full potentials of what they mime. Who said iPhone and android devices were toys compared to bb? lasunray:<<< ---- Anyway, me I'm just curious about that, what is '2go'? Please enlighten me, I've been living under an Android rock for the past 2 years ![]() |
@OP, great post! I'm a building services/sustainable energy engineer myself and I've recently been involved in some building services projects looking to employ modern energy conservation techniques. Looking forward to the great ideas that will be shared here. |
@texazzpete Please re-read the original article.i did, that was why I commented in the first place. Abeg stop babbling about 'spurious evidence' when you know nothing about this issue.Did you read my post at all? Funny how people think they lend weight to an argument by using language which borders on the insulting. In its lead judgment prepared by Justice Francis Fedode Tabai, the apex court noted that the accused person failed to place sufficient evidence capable of convincing it that she did not murder her deceased boyfriend on December 25, 2002.That's what I was afraid of. |
loool! @190. Hilarious fellow. Missy B, your arguments are on point! and yes, You WILL be held responsible 4 N cervical fracture. ![]() OP, I sense a personal angle to this topic. Many things in the universe as we know it are intangible, and yet their existence is irrefutable. Not everything is scientifically quantifiable. Love is one of those things. If you haven't felt it, you simply can't imagine it (and you're unqualified I daresay to argue for its non-existence). Love exists, I am sure of it, the way I am sure life and death exist. Emotions are ephemeral things, and they don't respect the boxes 'logical-ists' try to put them in. Anyway, this is just a cyclical argument that will get us all nowhere. You, not having experienced love, have made up your mind; and I, having experienced it have made up mine. Now, which one of us is deluded? hmm |
overboard is a relative term. For Nigerians (we like to form) kissing in public is overboard. For the average Caucasian, its par for the course. I don't go out without seeing at least 5 different couples kissing. To be honest, I think its pretty cool when a couple can get lost in each other and forget the world around them, as long as they're not doing it to be noticed. That said, I'm in full support of PDA, as long as it doesn't go overboard ![]() |
if i were the boss, i will feel like i was misguided. you don't mourn a dead child by tanning at the beach, are you Casey Anthony?#Gbam! |
young man (or woman), I did not snigger, and I also do not take any of my comments back. I just find it incredulous that this was mentioned without apparent proof as to how the investigators reached that conclusion. Have you ever heard of a case in which a well known (no escaping the fact here) person was convicted and sentenced to death and yet only bits and pieces of the story filtered to the public? Don't mind me if I seem not to have too much faith in the Nigerian justice system; truly, I don't, whether it was sat on by 2 courts or 20. Now, you say Asking if she has been proven guilty beyond reasonable doubt is rather silly.I'll ask, have you read the Casey Anthony files? Its been on the American news for days now: A relatively unknown story, but by the time the judgement was delivered everyone in the country knew almost all there was to know of the story. I fear that there's a very high chance this woman isn't actually guilty, especially as we are talking of Nigeria where we know that a high percentage of people have been imprisoned on spurious (and often non-existent) charges. |
poisoned eclairs sweet, seriously?? , how did they reach that conclusion? an autopsy? verbal confession in Nigeria admitted as evidence, seriously? she poisoned him and drowned him? , how? did she poison him beside the dam and then push him inside? To all the people 'supporting the death penalty 100%' , how sure are you that she's been 'proven guilty beyond reasonable doubt' (which is what is required by law in most civilized countries)? Unless there's more to this story than has been reported, a death penalty seems most harsh. My 2 cents. |

congrats! @OP the job situation is global, and the tales of woe spread across many continents. If you have a brilliant job in the UK then life won't be half bad! *still looking for my pot of gold at the end of the rainbow*
