It's been amazing reading all sorts of rsponses to these thread.
1. Ethnic bigots jumped to her defence claiming ''afterall there are corrupt people from all corners of the country''. . .hmm . . .well you're right but you forget defending these thieves get you nothing. Those kids don't and will never know you exist and in fact, their security men will probably run you off the road if you were to ever impede their movt in traffic. Defending them may satisfy your ethnic leanings but does nothing for you or your generations.
2. Some have rightly showed the pictures in themselves are inconclusive of graft, yes, but if you were to use the freedon of information act and demand for all salaries paid to this family since they ever started working and whether it can pay for all they've acquired. . .well that's up in the air.
At the end of the day, a few will live in stupendous opulence while their defenders will remain poor or if they at least manage to have a little, will fend for extended family.
Corruption has no ethnicity, corrupt people should be everyone's(and i mean all right thinking people) enemies. No justification, no excuse should be made for corrupt people because eventually they hurt us all.
You're 100% correct. All my life I've tried hard to be optimistic that Nigeria would be great one day, but judging from some hare-brained responses on this thread its becoming clearer by the day that 'the labour of our heroes past' will in fact be in vain. Mehn, I tire for my people.
PoliticsRe: How Did Federal Government Intimidate Labour? by kaykaybaba(m): 1:20pm On Jan 17, 2012
@ninapha I agree with the PRINCIPLE of fuel subsidy removal (as long as a subsidy exists in the first place). Notice that no one talks about existing refineries; even NNPC sells at unsubsidized price lipsrsealed
Also, the crux of the matter is simple: I don't trust the government 1 bit. Do you? They have consistently lied to us for more years than I've spent on this earth, so sorry, I'm just a bit too jaded to trust them.
@obijulius: 40m Nigerians didn't just decide to give the government a chance and return to work. They were intimidated and bullied. Make no mistakes about that. For what its worth, I sicerely hope I'm wrong and all the people who have decided to trust the government are not bitterly disappointed in the months to come.

Ninapha:
Yea if we had understood the concept well we wd not hv wasted a whole week for no just cause. I REPEAT, SUBSIDY REMOVAL IS THE WAY OUT! when ppl accuse beaf of being paid to post on NL that is because we are opposed to the idea of subsidy removal and out protest against it, read my lips!, is a grave mistake which would give room for corruption and failure on the part of our government!

Why not allow total removal of the subsidy so that we can hold them responsible if they fail to carry out their promises now.
what and where are u holding them Mr poster? when u quote me pls quote write better copy so u dont miss the contextual meaning!
#1 (bolded) Assumes there's a fuel subsidy in the first place. We've heard the same story since the days of IBB. Nothing has changed. Even if they jack it up to N200 per liter, they will still claim we're being subsidized. All they need to do is juggle the figures again. Simple question: Is the fuel that is locally refined also subsidized? If not, how does it reflect on the current prices?

#2 Exactly how will this be accomplished? From where I stand, there is NO WAY to call this government to order. They will do what they like, when they like, how they like.

from the look of things, we've learned nothing. 2015 might not even bring with it a relief. embarassed See supposedly intelligent people supporting the deployment of the military onto our streets! There is simply NO EXCUSE for it. And for the record, I'm highly disappointed in Fashola for the role of devil's advocate that he's been playing.

I for one, am very glad I was there. (My pic is somewhere up there wink ) It cost me money as well, because I don't live in London. I support the idea behind it, and the location chosen.

This is very true:

Christianity EtcRe: Why Are Our Christian Leaders Quiet On This Fuel Subsidy Issue? by kaykaybaba(m): 6:23pm On Jan 07, 2012
@OP what I'm trying to tell you is that you're making an assumption. When Pastor Okotie and later on Pastor Tunde Bakare contested for the presidency they were met with stiff and harsh criticism nationwide. What makes you think that people won't do the same if any pastor leads a protest now? A great percentage of people will tag them irresponsible, trust me. The situation is not as black/white as you're making it out to be. By the way your post makes no mention of Muslim leaders as well? (I say that solely for the purpose of balance and not to antagonize anyone)

How do you mean?
Apparently all the OP cares about is criticizing a particular set of people. I gave him links and proof that at least 1 pastor had condemned the fuel hike (in fact in the example I gave the Pastor said it as far back as october 2011); OP then immediately switched and said it was not enough. My question is: what will be enough? And what has the OP done personally to contribute positively to the issues on ground? To be fair, I criticized some of the men of God privately as well, but I have since found out that a lot of them have 'chosen sides' in this battle. I think encouraging people (from the pulpit) to protest peacefully is a giant step forward.

AmeboAjela:
So when some of you Nigerians are really tired of suffering and being oppressed by a very few, you wont mind whether it's your pastor, bishop or Imam that leads a National protest to leberate you.
@ameboajela what do you mean by 'you Nigerians' exactly? Thanks for your facts. OP has not yet answered my question though: What are YOU doing about the crises on ground? All I see so far is ranting on the internet. I'll repeat: the 'pastor' in front of your username is a misnomer.
Christianity EtcRe: Why Are Our Christian Leaders Quiet On This Fuel Subsidy Issue? by kaykaybaba(m): 1:20pm On Jan 07, 2012
there you go again. What has Oyedepo slapping someone got to do with your post? Little or nothing. Stay on the subject please. And while we're at it, did you vote in the last general elections? for whom? and what have YOU done since the fuel prices went up? I think putting pastor as your user name is a misnomer
Christianity EtcRe: Why Are Our Christian Leaders Quiet On This Fuel Subsidy Issue? by kaykaybaba(m): 11:43am On Jan 07, 2012
Na wa o. When it was thought that they didn't voice opinions, people shouted that they should. Now they have, and people are asking them to be the vanguard. I'm sure if they go ahead to lead protests there will be a thousand people saying they are being irresponsible. People just can't be satisfied. I daresay the loudest voices criticizing these pastors are from people who haven't stirred from their couches or contributed to the protests in anyway since this crises began.
