Webmasters / Re: Please Review My Site Pls by kazey(m): 4:20pm On Aug 24, 2007
A good idea, but since you did not ask for the idea of the site to be reviewed but the site itself. Allow me.

Problems with the site.
1. http://www.effikoland.com/img/advert.gif -> Perhaps the background can have a lighter color of green nature.

2. The content area, can you create a proper container that formats the arrangement for each section. They are scattered and sorry to say, they don't look professional. The fonts also would need some spicing up. Perhaps you might want to try verdana, and perhaps black color with proper text and background header for each of the content blocks.

3. http://www.effikoland.com/img/topright_callback.gif and http://www.effikoland.com/img/btn_go.gif -> it doesn't go with the feel of the website, use something simple smiley

4. The footer area, perhaps a background that blends with the top menu would do great?

Also can you try to use css for the text font and weight? That would be cool you know ? smiley

There are more, but I would only be able to advice further, if the basics are given a more cooler touch.

@Kazey

I visited your site. On domain registration, does "free online ownership transfer" mean that I will own the exclusive rights to the Domain(s) (i.e that i will be specified as the registrant and owner of the domain names) you register for me, and that I can transfer my domain to from one host to another anytime I am not satisfied with the services?

Secondly, if you regster a domain name for me, must I host with u?

Yes ownership transfer is free. This means you can transfer your domain to another person without any charges. Exclusive rights to domains are the norm, you can ask any of our clients.

No you are not obliged to host with us, domain registration is one of our services, so is web hosting. There are independent products.
Webmasters / Re: How Do I "really Own" My Domain Name? by kazey(m): 3:48pm On Aug 24, 2007
edetcnn:

If you would like to transfer your domain out for whatever reason after registration, kindly send an email to support[at]nairahost.com.ng and we would provide you with the domain transfer key.

Why would you wait until I want to transfer before you provide me with the domain transfer key?
Why can't you give me the key when I register?

@skyskay
what's the difference between my domain control panel and my hosting control panel? In simple layman terms please!
We use two different reliable registrars ( a company that registers the domain with ICAAN). One gives us the domain transfer key right away, the other requires us to manually trigger the request from the system. If you do ask specifically after registration that you want your transfer key upon registration, we would give it to you. I did not say we don't provide it, what I said was we would provide it upon request, when the case applies.

One thing you need to know about the transfer key is it only applies when you are trying to transfer the domain without interruption by domain locks and your inability to receive the email to authorize the transfer. But as the case might be with us, your email would be configured as the authoritative administrator of that domain by default, hence such problem wont arise.

The domain transfer key allows you not to worry about having to go through any approval process before the domain transfers.

This is in accordance to ICANN's new transfer policy, which allows automatic approval when no objection is sent via email, hence the transfer will be deemed as approval by default.

The domain name:
When you register a domain name, you get the right to use that name. Here i mean just the name, like kazey.com for example, is just the name.

The domain panel allows you to have control over that name, and make modifications to that name. For example, you can choose the change your contact address to that name or even configure where you want that domain name to point to. All this is done within the domain panel.

The Hosting:
Hosting is how you can use that name(the domain name) as an address for your website or email. Remember that Your domain name is what people will type in when they want to visit your website or send you an email.

The web hosting account , is the account on our server that stores or host's your website or email.

An example would be a house being the hosting package and the address that leads to the house being the domain name. The house that occupies people is the web hosting account. The web hosting account stores your website, your emails and other things.

The hosting panel is the control area that allows you to have control over the web space. It allows you to create an email address for example. It allows you to modify your password, and do a lot of things.

I do hope you understand, It can't get easier than this smiley

Webmasters / Re: What Is Happening To Nairahost by kazey(m): 1:36pm On Aug 01, 2007
1. Nairahost does have yahoo live support , but does not use, and never has it used yahoo email for correspondence. Your invoice contains our correct email address so is your account created account and so is the support ticket advisory.
2. Kazey is not an active member of nairaland, was a long time ago but not currently.
3. Please take the initiative of providing a proof not just use a "burden of proof" to argue on a situation.

I have no more to say in regards. I still do not understand the basis of opening a thread in a public forum on this case considering the following fact.

1. Your site is only not accessible from your office
2. You did not take our support ticket advisory seriously
3. You are not a new customer and you are well aware of our protocol regarding contacting support for help

I think you are a trouble maker, and I would take measures to avoid it from repeating in the future. We do not mind criticism or complaints based on tangible fault on our part, and we would be willing to apologies or make amends, if such applies, but when it falls on false pretenses, we do have to control the damage so it does not repeat again for the sake of our public image and harmony. Please do check your email.

Kamali:

You gave a yahoo id with which we can get to you.A trace of your log will show that i do use the tickets but the response to the tickets are not as fast as nairahost@yahoo.com.I have always chatted with this add but sometimes the response i get is not satisfactory(a case in question is our not being able to send mails out from outlook using paymasterlimited.com).

Nairahost never uses yahoo i.e nairahost@yahoo.com to correspond with its clients. I do not know where you obtained such an information from. We have a contact us page, and every information is clearly stated there without ambiguity. From our webpage that is http://www.nairahost.com.ng you have a link that says Contact Us, which is link to http://www.nairahost.com.ng/contact.php which has a submit ticket link.

I do not know where you got the yahoo address for nairahost because there is no where on our website that it states you to use that email addresss to correspond with us. We even have a support ticket advisory that every client gets upon signing up with us, which I guess you choose to ignore.
Webmasters / Re: What Is Happening To Nairahost by kazey(m): 12:47pm On Jul 31, 2007
Thank you for contacting us via email, as you can see we have responded to your enquiry via email. I encourage the admin of this forum to close this thread, because all the claims are false.

Reasons
1. The sites are accessible from different locations.
2. naijacutee cant provide evidence to substantiate her claims.
Webmasters / Re: What Is Happening To Nairahost by kazey(m): 10:54am On Jul 31, 2007
@naijacutee

I would be greatful if you make accusations with evidence to support them. Nairahost has a web based ticketing system and once you send an email to us you get an automated reply with the link to the ticket, and once the ticket has been replied you are notified too.

What I would require is a link to the ticket, or a screen shot to the ticket which indicates that the ticket has been open for 4-5 months, without response. Thanks.

Note*
1. Clients can login to their client area to check the status of their tickets
2. Non- Nairahost clients have a link to check their tickets status and are not required to login to their clients area.

@kamali
We think the problem is from your ISP not our servers because the site is accessible from different locations. Nairahost is surprised that instead of contacting them in regards to the issue you decided to go and complain in a public forum.

Please email us if you do have problems, we are always happy to respond to your emails.

You can tell how we take client related issues seriously, by our response time to this forum post, considering we aren't active here.

And why do you say, I shouldn't be pathetic? or share sentiments? You got me lost there for real, because I don't see what me and my opinions relate, help me here?
Business / Re: Who Is Your Customer? by kazey(m): 2:12pm On Nov 30, 2006
I think the analogy of the rain does not stand. Why?

Well environmental factors that drive demand does not equate with an object, in this case here the child that motivates the father to buy the product.

The question is, do environmental factors that determine demand for a product a likely referential as the direct customer that aid in generating revenue? Maybe, we might say yes, but so is advertisement, the law of demand and supply, besides other factors.

I think who pays for that product is not the customer, but who has interest in the product being paid for, that generates that revenue for that product is the customer.

Its like telling me that, because someone else chooses to pay for my meals, even though i am the one patronizing a particular restaurant, that someone facilitating the payment is the customer. It just doesn't make sense.

As I said before, The customer does not have to be the person paying for that product. The customers are those that have interest and need for that product, and always demand for that product, not those that decide to fund the demand.

The person that shows the interest is the buyer, the person that pays for it is the facilitator for that demand not the buyer.

When a company does advertisement for example to drive demand for a particular product, who do they target?
Webmasters / Re: Adsense Info by kazey(m): 1:16pm On Nov 30, 2006
You need to have a complete website, then apply for it and if you get approved. Then you can go ahead to monetize your site.
Business / Re: Who Is Your Customer? by kazey(m): 1:05pm On Nov 30, 2006
Quite evasive to straightforward answer, nevertheless, as far as I know the qualifications of a customer does not only involve monetary affiliations.

According to "heehawmarketing" a blog in a post "Brewing Debate, User vs. Consumer", who I agree to, he says and I quote.

A USER is a person who uses your product or service.

A CONSUMER is someone who consumes your brand. For example, the consumer may be on different levels of the purchasing cycle, including pre-purchase. A consumer is not necessarily a user or a customer. They may just not be there, yet. The consumer absorbs some aspect of your brand, whether it's the product itself, your brand messaging, their sister-in-law's experience, general word-of-mouth, overall impression of brand, what charities you are involved with, some accounting scandal they read about in the paper, etc.

The point is a consumer is not just a customer or a user, because it is also a potential customer, or a former customer you've already lost. Only using the terms customer or user immediately eliminates your potential growth areas.

According to another blog, "consumerpop" in a post titled "Consumer vs. Customer" it says and I agree and quote

Customers buy the products you make from you and consumers buy the products from the customers and use the products. Thus, retailers are your customers and the people who hopefully will love and embrace your products with passionate fervor are your consumers. Although there are customer marketing folks at CPG companies and brand marketers partner with sales to meet customer needs, the primary focus of brand management is consumer marketing. This is the lens through which I view my definitions.

Certainly you must understand and respect your customers and their needs. However, if you do not create products that delight the consumer and you don't make consumers aware of your delightful products through clever marketing built on true insight into the hearts and minds of your consumers then you will not have the opportunity to meet your customer needs. Because even if you paid a boatload of slotting and managed to get on every grocery shelf in America, if it doesn't turn, it will be red tagged and sitting in a clearance bin in a matter of weeks.

If consumers demand your product, customers will buy your product. If your consumer and customer are one in the same it just makes your job a bit easier. Even if you are in the B2B space and the ultimate consumers of your products have no say in the choice (I'm thinking things like office furniture or software that gets deployed across companies to thousands of users) - in this day and age, you cannot think you can continue to sell a product that doesn't please the end user. Trust me - they'll blog about it, they'll post it on a compliant website, they'll find another job where they aren't forced to use stuff that just doesn't work.

If you make consumers happy you make customers happy. If you make customers happy then you are doing something right and your business should be making money. Everybody wins. But only if you make the consumer happy. I'm all about making the consumer happy. And that's why I blog about them.

Business / Re: Who Is Your Customer? by kazey(m): 6:24pm On Nov 25, 2006
Yes as Nutter rightly said, Consumers do not necessarily have to exchange monetary units before they can be qualified as customers, they can also be those that participate in service rendering, such as contribution to a source of the primary source of income by participating directly to the revenue generating process.

Its like a tv channel, the audience to that particular tv channel, are the customers of that tv channel, because they contribute to creating the revenue of that tv station by watching that tv channel. Although the revenue is generated through the means of advertisement, but who would advertise without the existence of the tv audience in the first place?

So the audience create revenues for that tv channel and thus the same apply to this forum, whereby the forum members are the customers, that aid in generating revenue through showing interest in the advertisement on this forum. If they do not show interest in the advertisement, would you generate revenue? I doubt so,
Business / Re: I Hav N500,000 To Invest. But Cnt Figr What To Do. by kazey(m): 3:13pm On Nov 23, 2006
90% + of startup businesses fail in their first year, you know why? They lack the simple rudimentary skills to running a business, and hence jump at anything they "think" could bring them money, without proper assessment and hence build a business that has weak pillars which is bound to collapse and fall on them within the duration of 1 year.

If you do not have the skills or the idea, get a consultant to help in advising and building your business. I mean pay someone to help in the setup besides guide. I am very certain figuring out what to do with the money is not only the problem you have right now. Running that idea would also be hard to figure out.

I firmly believe, that If someone cant figure out on his own, the next step to expanding a capital, that person surely does not have the skills to run a system of maintaining that capital, thus my recommendation stands.

Please if you want to make a wise decision, get someone who has the knowledge to help. Most people advising you here, never ran a business before nor have a business they are running. Forums are not just the place to get tips that would help you to figure out the right thing to do with your money. Just my 2cents worth.

Politics / Re: We Need A European Leader To Fix Nigeria? by kazey(m): 5:42am On Nov 17, 2006
@Donzman,

Let me precisely understand what you have said, because I don't honestly see how it solves the mentality, all I see is how it defends the present African leader.

1. See, the problem is not that these leaders are "bad" per se, these guys can lead people to swindle large funds without being noticed.

Corruption and evasion capabilities is a leadership quality as you say, considering that you even gladly make mention of such a skill ? Help me here?

2. we have Nigerians that run big successful companies, we have Nigerians that run huge churches.
Hmm yes we do, but non of this big successful companies pay loyal taxes, or are even obliged ethically to do so, yet you claim they might have the leadership skills and motivation besides loyalty to lead a country forward?

3. The problem lies with we common Nigerians. We have not provided any incentives to make these people commit in advance to be good leaders after they have been elected.
Who are the common Nigerians? Perhaps you might want to draw that line, so that we can know where to begin? Commitment as you put it, is not what I would term loyalty, honesty, besides patriostism, what our grandparents taught us, I guess the sense of ethical consciouness is lost here.

4.We need to be able to let them know they will be impeached or removed from office if things do not go the way the promised.

Where is that done, the people are ruled by the people, and that means whatever they do concerns they directly or indirectly? Not aliens for goodness sake, what are we talking about?

The constitution should provide for this somehow.

The constitution does accommodate for impeachment, but by proper channels, or you were referring to the possibility of impeaching the government by the people just like the election process is done? That would be interestiing, I guess I could call it the "Donzman Utopia". Lets be realistic here.

5. We should be able to contact members of House of Reps./Senate from out ward and inform them of our complaints and hope they'll work to solve our problems.

I don't think that is a problem right now, the problem is in relative to the willingness of this reps to serve the interest of the masses, not just listen to the interest of the masses, that is entirely two different things.

6. Again, there is no doubt in my mind that these guys can lead, we just don't give them a good enough reason to show good leadership.

People are born to be leaders, not made.

A spirit of adventure - the urge to explore, break new ground, challenge the status quo, stand up for what you believe, risk rejection, rebel against authority, innovate.
An ability to influence -
by example, logical argument, enthusiasm, persistence or painting a visionary picture.
An appropriate level of intelligence.

Now some skeptic out there will be wondering, why don't Europeans and white nations have this same commitment problem from their leaders?, The answer is quite simple, they had these problems about 500 years ago and they've been able to resolve it and move forward.

Perhaps you might want to re-explain the role of that commitment or did you mean loyalty or patriotism? I am a little bit confuse on how that has impact on leadership roles? Who needs it more the followers or the leaders? What role does each play?

@mazaje
And your contribution would be? Aww perhaps you forgot,
