Webmasters / Re: Writing A Time Based Expiration Script Or Function Using Php And Mysql by kazey(m): 3:59pm On Feb 05, 2008
This is how I would approach the problem, I am bored cheesy

Note: This is an illustration:

Tables
id
User
Date
Duration
Status (Active,Pending,Expired)

Program [CRON]
SELECT date from table where id=''

$date = substr($todays_date, 6, 2);

$trigger_date = date("Ymd", mktime (0,0,0,$month,$date-$number_of_days,$year));

You just needed the calculation right?

Religion / Re: Preaching In Commercial Buses: by kazey(m): 5:19pm On Jan 29, 2008
I try to refrain from participating in any unintellectual approach to debating, like this, especially on Nairaland. Nevertheless I couldn’t help but participate in expressing my observation besides trying to point out that this topic has totally been polluted with hatred from those that have reasons to believe that the posters intentions for creating the topic was non other than to attack christianity and its supposed doctrines. I too honestly think its questionable but nevertheless, I would try to give him the benefit of the doubt.

First of, I would agree that the initiator was provocative in his approach to delivering what bothers him in regards to the supposed problem, that is “A christian preaching in a bus”. He claimed he was dissapointed. Perhaps he was dissapointed; this is because he didn’t like the practice, perhaps that’s acceptable, because he has the right to dislike a public expression of opinion or religious doctrines.
What I still can’t figure out is the relevance of of bus passenger’s inappreciation of supposed Islamic music to his dislike for bus preachings.

He said and I quote “The most annoying situation was in one morning when d so called preacher PASTOR was been anti ISLAM and nearly caused mayhem.

Well “anti-Islam or even anti-Christian” approach to preachings, should not be acceptable be it by a Muslim or a Christian or a member of any religious or non religious belief, in a public bus for the aforementioned reasons. It could cause mayhem or even religious riot in a fragile country like Nigeria.

The question is do you agree or don’t you agree that it is alright to express ones anti religious sentiments in the platform of a public bus. If your answer is the later, then it should be alright for any person to insult your beliefs in public or rather in a bus, on the basis of supposed freedom of expression in public places because you are a very tolerant human being. Where do we draw the line when it comes to freedom of expression.

The initator said also and I quote “I love christainity, my friends, relatives are Christians but as a Muslim i always respect their religious opinions.” If that is so, I guess @bicey your reason for bringing up your “disappointments” is questionable; this is because, if you respect a religious opinion, you wouldn’t mind a public expression of religious opinions without anti religious sentiments.

Perhaps I did not understand your context of saying so?

Perhaps you are confused with exactly what you wanted. Perhaps you wanted to have a moment of silence in a Bus on a journey back home from work? Or perhaps it’s just that you think it’s not an appropriate venue for such discussions? Or perhaps some other valid reasons, that could seat un-provocatively in a tolerant community? With this I could not but agree that apparently you have valid reasons and no other questionable intentions for starting a debate like this.

To other posters that were provoked, I have to say that you have really expressed who you are and what you believe. I must say that almost all of your arguments are not valid and they are very flawed. The observations I made from your re battles are:-

1. If people share the same beliefs, and a member of that particular sharing group exhibits intolerance and is easily provoked, every member must exhibit that personality trait too, in what philosopher’s term as “hasty generalization”. This hence prevents any member of that particular group from expressing their reservations or displeasures because they are all apparently guilty in what is called “Tu quoque”.

2. Instead of attacking the matter of discuss, you attacked the personality of that person, which is very irrelevant to the topic nor does it present your opinions, but rather shows how narrow minded and immature you are. This approach to that kind of argument is otherwise called an ad hominem argument.

Hasty generalization is a logical fallacy of faulty generalization by reaching an inductive generalization based on insufficient evidence. It commonly involves basing a broad conclusion upon the statistics of a survey of a small group that fails to sufficiently represent the whole population.

Tu quoque (Latin for "Thou, too" or "Thou, also"wink
is an argument that asserts or implies that a certain position is false or wrong and/or should be disregarded because its proponent fails to act consistently in accordance with that position; it attempts to show that a criticism or objection applies equally to the person making it.

An ad hominem argument, also known as argumentum ad hominem (Latin: "argument to the man", "argument against the man"wink consists of replying to an argument or factual claim by attacking or appealing to a characteristic or belief of the person making the argument or claim, rather than by addressing the substance of the argument or producing evidence against the claim. The process of proving or disproving the claim is thereby subverted, and the argumentum ad hominem works to change the subject.

Honestly I think we should be a more tolerant and more well mannered human beings, no matter what our creed, beliefs or race are, because in the end, we all want the same things, “Peace and Harmony” and I am very sure that all of us have friends and family members, be it in extended or immediate links, of different beliefs and faith. Apparently you don't battle daily with those members?

Webmasters / Re: Implementing A Paypal Payment System? by kazey(m): 6:30am On Oct 22, 2007
Paypal is a third party payment processor just like 2checkout, that allows you to accept CCs, but it is not a real nor even a merchant account.

As with all third party credit card processors, PayPal has a higher fee per transaction (discount rate, etc.) than a merchant account. This means that at high dollar volumes, PayPal may be more costly than a merchant account.

PayPal Cost for sellers is 30 cents per transaction plus a 2.2% or 2.9% fee.

What is merchant account? Do your homework!!!

The funny thing is, I actually thought you knew what you were talking about in the beginning. I thought you were just a little bit misinformed about the fact that paypal is not free for business accounts and even personal accounts if you allow them to process your CC payments. Lady I have a suggestion, take a break, visit paypal website and browse through. Lastly paypal is not a real merchant account. wink

This has nothing to do with safemode. Make sure your tmp folder is writeable, and also your session path is defined correctly, if its file based. I would encourage a fresh reinstall with a full catalog and emptying the database after that.
Webmasters / Re: Plzz Help Me: Its About My Cpanel by kazey(m): 2:47pm On Sep 21, 2007
It depends on the mail format or whether the mail server hosting your account is been listed in any RBL list or not. Almost all our mails are delivered in the mailbox, but some are delivered in bulks too, when they do not conform to the proper email format, i.e they are marked as spam by the spam softwares run by Yahoo or MSN.

If your business relies primarily on email deliveries, you could always use yahoo domainkeys and apply for permanent white listing, besides using a standard format for all your mails.

Webmasters / Re: What's The Difference Between "require Once" And "include" In Php? by kazey(m): 2:18pm On Sep 18, 2007
Dont get confuse with the _once attribute. The function is basically include() and require(). the _once attribute can be added to both.

And Both actually do the same thing in regards to adding the specified file, but are different in the way they handle failures. _once is included in the respective functions to avoid problem with function redefinitions. That is preventing the file been included for evaluation or execution from been added more than once.

The difference between include() and require is simply, when the specified file is called in both cases , and the file does not exist for example, the require() function returns a fatal error while the include() function, returns a warning, which means the scripts calling the function does not halt, as in the case of with the require().

so its basically, the include() function in a script would show a warning if the specified file does not exist and the require(), function would return an error and halt if the file been called for evaluation or execution does not exist for example.

The require makes the file inclusion compulsory , while the include can continue with the other part of the calling script if applicable, if that specified file in the function does not exist.

This is actually very easy, and since you mention that you already have php and mysql coding skills , I am going to give you tips. Here I am assuming you know how to write your mysql queries and how to understand written code. The search.php is assumed the file, you can change the name. Feel free to ask any question.

//Add your mysql query ,
$result = @mysql_query ($query);
$row = mysql_fetch_array ($result, MYSQL_NUM);
$num_records = $row[0];

// Number of records to show per page:
$display = 10;

// Calculate the number of pages.
if ($num_records > $display) { // More than 1 page.
$num_pages = ceil ($num_records/$display);
} else {
$num_pages = 1;
}

// Make the links to other pages, if necessary.
if ($num_pages > 1) {

echo '
<p>';
// Determine what page the script is on.
$current_page = ($start/$display) + 1;

// If it's not the first page, make a Previous button.
if ($current_page != 1) {
echo '<a href="search.php?s=' . ($start - $display) . '&np=' . $num_pages . '&sort=' . $sort .'">Previous</a> ';
}

// Make all the numbered pages.
for ($i = 1; $i <= $num_pages; $i++) {
if ($i != $current_page) {
echo '<a href="search.php?s=' . (($display * ($i - 1))) . '&np=' . $num_pages . '&sort=' . $sort .'">' . $i . '</a> ';
} else {
echo $i . ' ';
}
}

// If it's not the last page, make a Next button.
if ($current_page != $num_pages) {
echo '<a href="search.php?s=' . ($start + $display) . '&np=' . $num_pages . '&sort=' . $sort .'">Next</a>';
}
