hmm Seun, what does my location have to do with my opinions? I think the forum is on the internet for a reason? What matters is whether my opinions mean something or stand validity.

otokx:

my question goes as follows, does multichoice have exclusive rights in their home country of south africa?
I think its not about whether it has exclusive rights, in its own home country or it doesn't, what matters right now is that, the company has it, it has paid for it, and based on fairness and proper law practice, it deserves to keep what is agreed in the agreement signed. Or you do not agree ?
Business / Re: Hire Purchase Business by kazey(m): 11:00am On Sep 13, 2006
Brother, honestly I think you would want to do more research on how credit institutions work, especially in developing countries.

You can auto-debit someone's account monthly true, but one thing you need to know is that, nobody would agree especially in a country like Nigeria for a third party to have rights to auto-debit his account monthly.

Another thing is in developing countries that have credit facilities, there are proper laws and agencies in place that can check the credit status of individuals to determine whether they are qualified or not, this they do with even ensuring that the person has a stable job, meets an income requirement, has a steady savings of money in his or her account during the past years.

Is that possible to be able to determine in a country like Nigeria? I think proper financial knowledge and background is needed to pull this off, not just the desire to run the business.

Investment / Re: Stock Brokers In Nigeria? by kazey(m): 4:18pm On Sep 07, 2006
I think when Seun says, people should not invest in the Nigerian stock market he has his reasons, what he failed to do was let us know why we shouldnt invest in stocks.

Ok, I would try to explain as to why some people tend to think investing in meagre stocks is not a good idea.

Firstly the stock market, is a very volatile market in the sense that, its construct is not governed by direct market success of the organisation being listed or how well the organisation is currently doing. Rather its value determinant are the speculations, possible conclusions, rumours, and demand that its buyers and sellers brought into live.

So literally when you invest in a company that is listed, your money does not really contribute directly to the companies operation budget, rather it allows the owners to use your money to do whatever they so wish to do. As they so wish to do at the end of the year, they can decide to give your rewards for your contribution otherwise known as dividends from their net profit, or decide not too.

So there are a few categories of people that actually really do make money from the stock market. Only Category A become rich through stocks.

Category A.
The company founders or the initial investors when the company offer its initial Public Offering. This category of people make money for the fact that when they got the initial lots the value was less and the volumes was more depending on how much the company distributed. So the money actually they made is through people like you investing heavily into the company. Your money makes them rich later on.

Category B.
Significant stock investors, those that actually buy upto 20% of the company valued stocks, this category of investors even though they are already rich, and you wont literally say they made it through that particular stock, considering the amount they invested in, make money through the net profit, because they have a say in the companies decleration, and they could always force dividend decleration or even sell a few amount of their stocks once in a while. But considering the amount they invest, anytime they choose to cash out, you the meagre investor would be heavily infected, because the value of that particular stock in the market would significantly DROP.

Category C.
The daily traders, that really do understand technical analysis, and gamble using different formulaes and patterns, this group of people do not really care about the company background, all they do is literally just gamble.

Category D.
The lucky traders, who invest, and the stock price luckily sky rockets over-night, and the amount normally gained is nothing really to write home about, because this lucky traders normally happen to be meagre investors, and the only way they could make money then, is buy selling off their stocks, This is because if they wait for dividends, Dissapointment would surely be their escort back from the bank.

Dont Invest in the stock market, if you think its going to make your rich, but if you want something to count on, maybe something to probably add a few kobo's to your wallet at the end of the year, then stocks is for you. This is because an average person does not have the tools, heart or the knowledge daily traders use in order to trade daily.

Business / Re: Add-on Services For a Cyber-cafe (Apart from Net Browsing) by kazey(m): 9:16am On Jul 14, 2006
Develop a package that even those that have internet at home would want to come browsing to make use of your facilities.

1. A member IT library?
2. Game Competitions?
3. A mini parlour with daily newspapers and latest celebrity mags, and a cable tv for members?
4. A small pc service corner?

The question is how much room-space do you have to install all the additionals? If room-space isn't a problem, then getting more customers to pay for cafe membership that come with the spice and flavour shouldn't be a problem too smiley.
Webmasters / Re: Web Developers: Formal Education Vs Self Taught by kazey(m): 9:05am On Jul 14, 2006
Trust me you didn't learn a thing, from school, except book theories from what I found from your post, an opinion of course. I also really don't understand what the hec you are talking about. I am a self taught, and so is many guru's out there, although I don't claim to be one, mind you I am not trying to be humble.

Infact most people in the top popular areas in the IT field today, didn't achieve it via formal education, So I really think either that kpali you get is making you feel that "you are ok" and "other people are not ok", or maybe you are jelous of the success of those that didn't get that supposed formal education. Whatever it might be, you are not any better. Peace.

Mind listing your official kpali presentable portal? That would be appreciated.
Politics / Re: Dr Mike Adenuga In Trouble With EFCC by kazey(m): 2:55pm On Jul 12, 2006
So Nigerians tell me. Is it a crime to be

1. IBB's friend?
2. Atiku's friend?

And also is it fair to be Arrested twice within a duration of 6 months for the same crime after it was being thrown out for lack of evidence. Here I am reffering to the tax evasion, accusation.

If EFCC is very honest in fighting corruption, money laundering or whatever, they should start from those in government, past corrupted leaders and leave entrepreneurs alone, especially those helping the economy without any known direct affiliation with any government official or holding any political position or interest.
Investment / Re: Investing In Transcorp Shares, How Feasible? by kazey(m): 1:51pm On Jul 11, 2006
To be honest from their current aquisition (NITEL) and possible future aquisitions, it might be worth the investment, but nevertheless, thats if they decide to be declaring huge public dividends cheesy. According to me, Nigerian stock market is too quiet, but it would be worthwhile, if you have about 1 million to invest in their stocks.
Webmasters / Re: How To Convince A Hotel To Let Me Design Their Website by kazey(m): 11:24am On Jul 09, 2006
hmm, once their promotional materials and business cards contain the email address and web address, they wont leave you or decide that they don't need the email services after getting used to it.

There is one thing we call a change model. It literally involves properly educating your clients, and changing their mentality, especially if you let them know the competitive edge they would be having with the technology you are introducing into their organization.

They would evolve to appreciate and embrace whatever technology or services you are trying to introduce to them. This we normally call the Unfreezing, shifting and refreezing process, works well in the technology industry.Once you introduce that model into any marketing concept, your clients would willing to pay when you bill them in the future.

Works under any atmosphere, Nigeria is not an exception, as long as you are smart in developing the package and playing the game. It takes more than just the theory but the willingless to explore the possibility.

Design it for free, maintain the content, give them personal emails, teach them how to use it, and start charging them after one year of hosting, and maintainance thereof, you can overcharge them, as you want.

Dont forget to.
1. Be the only one that has control over the control panel and hosting account.
2. Always be ready to put their new products, press release and content online.
3. Encourage them to put the website address plus their email on their business cards, promotional flyers and on their sign boards.

Trust me, you would make your money.
Webmasters / Re: Website Review by kazey(m): 4:00am On Jul 09, 2006
A few things you might want to consider.

1. Left menu not properly aligned, background color not good, why not just let it be plain?
2. Whats up with the table borders, you could always use color borders and alt color for the table data's in the rows?
3. Stick to one color please, at most 3.
4. Whats the animation on the top of the content for? To Impress the visitor? Well it does show that you are an armature though.
5. The counter below too? Is it really necessary?

Business / Re: Is Google Going Too Far? by kazey(m): 3:30pm On Jul 08, 2006
lolz funny thread, I am totally with Seun in regards to the debate.

"Google's primary goal is to organize all of the world's public information, and this includes the widest range of opinions,"

This I assume, also means while still remaining profitable; which is from my understanding of what a business really entails.

Zahymaka:

Interesting. Before Google jumps into any market I'd assume they've studied it from all angles.

I think the unconventional approach Google takes to everything is what makes them such a success. If they were to follow the exact steps you advocate, they'd be just another EBay and GCheckout would be just another Paypal [which Ebay owns]. You can trust Google to find a way to make money from it without displaying ads.

Google made money alright from adwords, but they are wasting more money than they are actually making, but thanks to public offerings (Other Peoples money like Old Glory's for example), they happen to have a lot of money to be able to spend, I love the idea of Public listing of corporate interest, and precisely that its beauty, unlimited inflow of funds without questioning.

Nevertheless, I think they should concentrate on more reasonable projects that have ties with their core product, of popularity "The Google Search Engine" supported by their powerful publicity tool, adsense and of course immense revenue from adwords.

Project's fail not because the developer's or the entrepreneur's involved didn't study the alternatives, but rather they fail, because of "wastefulness"; inefficiency and also ineffectiveness. A good project must be not only efficient but effective in the market it resides. The question in regards to google is; Is googlecheckout for example effective enough, in the sense of achieving their main goals.

The primary goal of Checkout is goodwill with retailers who buy its AdWords search ads, the little ads that show up with Google search results.

Another question is do you guys know that google's net earning's from its operation is less than, the amount they are spending doing crazy project's? Doesn't that makes us ponder, What exactly the definition of a business enterprise is from google's perspective? Well the before cashing out of Sergey and Larry, speaks for itself. I love business, especially Public offerings.

Applicable Disputes. You are required to submit to a mandatory administrative proceeding in the event that a third party (a "complainant"wink asserts to the applicable Provider, in compliance with the Rules of Procedure, that

(i) your domain name is identical or confusingly similar to a trademark or service mark in which the complainant has rights; and

(ii) you have no rights or legitimate interests in respect of the domain name; and

(iii) your domain name has been registered and is being used in bad faith.

In the administrative proceeding, the complainant must prove that each of these three elements are present.

So is a name considered a trademark? Or in this case the name belong to just one person? Or it is being used in bad faith?
