Business / Re: What Is The Meaning Of Bank Consolidation by kazey(m): 5:13am On Nov 17, 2006
Consolidation can be said to be,the obligation by law, for which two or more companies to combine form one new company to meet a specific requirment or agreement or whatever. So in this case, "Soludo's solution" on bank's was literally raise the capital or join forces(merge, get taken over etc etc) to raise that capital. I hope that explains the meaining.

Politics / Re: We Need A European Leader To Fix Nigeria? by kazey(m): 5:15pm On Nov 11, 2006
Well probably if we apply the Kepner-Tregoe problem solving model to the question at hand, that could possibly be the solution.

1. Define the Problem
2. Describe the Problem
3. Establish possible causes
4. Test the most probable cause
5. Verify the true cause

Shango raised some points that are both valid and I would sadly agree that they are quiet strong too, but nevertheless that does not mean his recommended solution stand validity or I agree to it ,

If I were to hastily generalize that the group of people that responded to his post with personality attacks were the same group of people that he could possibly be refering too, as lacking the necessary skills of leadership, I could be tempted to agree to his recommended solution, but thats not the case here.

When someone attacks the personality of another person rather than giving tangible supporting arguments that counteracts the subjected person's argument, then the attacker, does not have anything to say against the subject of discuss, hence the logical position would be to discredit the subject initiator by attacking the subject initiators personality by making fallacious statements which sadly shouldn't come especially from that particular group.

Are blacks incapable of ruling themselves?

Giving examples by making assumptions that we "needed" the Christian missionaries and conquestidors to bring us modern technology as the reason that points to the lack of leadership, doesn't make sense?

Does it? What you said was literally; Blacks are incapable of ruling themselves because they did not innovate modern technology.

Another reason of yours is :

We openly invited colonisers to take over our lands with not so much as a fight raised. If we weren't colonised we would still be running half naked in the bushes.

Well Liberia and Ethiopia are African countries that were not colonized, and from what I do recollect they do wear clothes, or don't they? If there is an exception in regards to the point you raised, then it does not stand validity? or Does it? Besides it still does not provide a supporting fact on why Africans cant rule themselves?

The richest country in Africa is Nigeria, with the worlds greatest export, yet we are still third world, and countries like the Netherlands with no natural resources to speak of has a higher literacy rate than even the United States.

Now this might be a good point if not applied into relation to what you are suggesting. I don't see the link between leadership and literacy rates? Really I don't. Or does anybody sees any?

Maybe you might want to address that more?
Business / Re: Will A Large Supermarket Thrive In Nigeria? by kazey(m): 6:44am On Nov 11, 2006
@chimaze

I am with you on that. I am very certain this business model would not thrive in a Nigerian atmosphere.

Some questions the investor needs to ask himself or herself is :-

1. Do the hypermarkets overseas finance their investment from one source?
2. Does their model put emphasis on volume sales to justify their profitable margins?
3. Would Nigerians hang around the hypermarket just for window shopping, which is one of the revenue generating mechanism's of this model, putting reliance on impulse buying etc.
4. Can the investor compete with the current market, considering the investor's initial capital outlay and the pressure that arises.

Facts.

1. All hypermarkets overseas sell products at stock bottom prices.
2. People hang out in hypermarkets not only to shop but also to hangout in the eateries that are normally around them.
4. Their business model relies primarily on volume sales.
5. 100's of millions are invested into marketing etc and many have failed even with such capital backings.

I have read case studies of Carrefore, Tesco, Walmart, to name a few, and I have being on the premises too, and I do know what I am talking about.

Adverts / Re: Mlm, Network Marketing In Nigeria, Is It For Real? by kazey(m): 5:24am On Nov 04, 2006
I have seen MLM rise and fall in Malaysia for more than 6 years, and I am telling you, I am yet to meet a millionaire, in networth. I have even gone to numerous conferences, seen numerous friends explode due to the promises and failures. And I tell you today that MLM is a beautiful marketing model but its not for those that want to get millions, or make money, its for those that just want to do something, idle hands, No offence.

Most of the MLM in Nigeria currently is shifting from Asian countries, the market is saturated in asia, and nobody believes them anymore, because all they had was false prophesies, hence you are the new victims, The MLM virgins.

Multilevel Marketing or Network Marketing is a Ponzi scheme and anybody smart enough would keep away from them, because you might be the down line victim. Making money from it does not mean its good, nor does it mean its a legal thing to do, just don't promote the idea of victimizing others of their money.

Webmasters / Re: How Feasible Is An Internet Market In Nigeria, More Like An Ebay Operation? by kazey(m): 9:59am On Nov 03, 2006
1. Accepting credit cards from Nigerians, is scary. I wouldn't recommend that, considering possible charge backs, and the rate of crime from Nigeria etc, but you can use the tradition way. Credit card verification and contract agreement, whereby once they are verified and sign the contract, charge-backs cant be established with that specific credit card.

2. The inclusion of an Escrow system would help too, but that should be done either by interswitch or bank account deposit, which means payments are irreversible.

3. A good seller verification system in place.

4. A good reputation system.

The rest is pretty just like the others.

Business / Re: Google Acquires Youtube by kazey(m): 5:14am On Oct 18, 2006
Not literally it is publicly owned currently alright, but the initial investors have the major control, say, hence literally own it and going public does not change their power or position. And who has the most control? VCs?

http://www.google.com/press/pressrel/pressrelease1.html

During the dot-com bubble of the late 1990s, many venture capital driven companies were started, and seeking to cash in on the bull market, quickly offered IPOs. Usually, stock price spiraled upwards as soon as a company went public, as investors sought to get in at the ground-level of the next potential Microsoft and Netscape.

Initial founders could often become overnight millionaires, and due to generous stock options, employees could make a great deal of money as well. The majority of IPOs could be found on the Nasdaq stock exchange, which is laden with companies related to computer and information technology.

Google is privately held and venture funded by Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers and Sequoia Capital. Other investors include Stanford University; Andy Bechtolsheim, co-founder of Sun Microsystems and current Vice President at Cisco Systems; and Ram Shriram, former President of Junglee and current Vice President of Business Development at Amazon.com.

arizona:

here in America business is run in long term not for short term as we always believe in naija, Goggle saw great potential and went for it.

Most VCs funded organisations are in, for a quick flip, and Google is a VC funded organization, and their business model is clearly visible for the world to see.

arizona:

Bill gate(microsoft) did it and it paid very well for him. he buys up small potential companies.

Bill gates does not benefit from small companies, Infact his riches are from the same stock market, so is his rankings, which is literally paper worth. M$ heavily depends on corporate clients and government software licensing and of course the stock market for their annual revenue. If you know any M$ small scale aquisition that paid off later, please let us know.

Google only earn billions from one trade, ADWORDS/ADSENSE, and thats about that. All the aquisition they do, or free stuff they give is to help them stay on "breaking news", which helps the market value of the companies stocks.

Business / Re: Google Acquires Youtube by kazey(m): 9:50am On Oct 11, 2006
Expected, isn't it? Its a catalyst to their income model, that heavily depends on the stock market, or rather market value. How then could one explain of a company like google spending 1 billion dollars in acquisition !!

The internet marketing model used by google and many giants is a very beautiful scamming model, that does not depend on the income generated from the organization's operations, but rather depends on its market value(stock price etc), and hence all it needs is to introduce frequent factors that catalyzes its market value, to sustain its tenure, the question is how long would that be?

How many of googles projects are income generating that amount to billions in revenue annually? I can only see the anchoring effect generated by their adwords revenue.

Their payment gateway what happened to it? So what product or services exactly is Google making money from apart from Adwords?

Well I guess very soon, the company would cashout yet again to raise funds, and the believers of the stock market would keep buying, considering the fact that the price is appreciating significantly, All I can say is Kudos to Google.

Business / Re: How Do I Get Paid For Online Goods And Services In Nigeria? by kazey(m): 4:02am On Oct 01, 2006
Well you can get paid by accepting credit cards through second party merchant accounts.

Paypal.
It is possible to get an account with them, even if you are located in Nigeria, but that would mean you need a friend overseas to help you with his utilities billing of the address you choose to use. It is free to get an account but there are charges if you upgrade your account to their premium level, about 1-2.5% per transaction or even more depending on the country and currency exchanged involved.

2Checkout
2checkout do accept Nigerians as merchants, but you would need to fax them a few documents such as certificate of incorporation besides the 45USD entry fee. They also do have what is called a release level of your funds, whereby for foreign merchants, you would have to accumulate about 300USD to be able to request for a wire transfer of your funds to your respective bank account.

Interswitch
Interswitch is a Nigerian based merchant services that allows interswitch card users to pay you for your services. It cost 1000USD to enrol and u face a bout 1% charges on transaction, and also some little charges here and there for withdrawal, statement etc.

I am just curious what would you like to sell or offer that you would need to enrol to this merchant accounts?

Are you sure you don't want to take that back? So IBB has become someone that would let you change your loyalty. HABA,

He said he cancelled, which means he did give democracy a chance, but was not happy with the results, whilst if it he did annul it, that means he didn't recognize the democratic process, the entire election, and hence the entire electoral process was void, as xkape empasised, which indirectly means he did not give democracy a chance. its as simple as that smiley thats why he stepped aside. Remember? So in earnest, he did cancel the election, not annulled it, as preached, remember Sonekan was civilian smiley

nenye78:

kazey,
Multichoice does not have an agreement with Nigeria but with the stations it broadcasts, to be the only one broadcasting these stations in Africa. What Nigeria did was simply to remove herself from that "Africa". which DSTV controls.

Well then so how does the government play a role in breach of contract as announced?

candylips:

I support NCC on this one. They have enjoyed unfair advantage for far too long.

Why is it unfair? The word monopoly in business exist for a reason, and even if its at the advantage to the first comer, the other interest new entrants should know what they are up against before they get involved.

candylips:

. If i am correct when they started. Nigerian busniness where not really interested in it so it was ok for DSTV to enjoy their monopoly.

Exactly and why now and what makes it unfair?

@twinstaiye
I do not think Nigerians are complaining about the cost of dstv subscription, considering the fact that its a luxury not a necessity.
TV/Movies / Re: Stripping Of Exclusivity Rights Of DSTV By The Government by kazey(m): 1:40pm On Sep 13, 2006
This supposed external monopoly, are unfortunately those that come to our rescue first, when there is the chance to invest on our infrastructure.

This are the same organizations that could be our key to a achieving the status of a developed country.

How many Nigerian corporate investors are readily ready all the time? The Nepa privatisation effort says it all. But look at the telecos industry, and you would have your answer in regards to external companies.

What Nigerians do is litterally, pick opportunities after this supposed external monopoly burn their money in our economy and risk all they have, are come out successful. I do think, we need to re-analyse how we threat foreign investors.

Our current attitudes, might backfire one day. Why should a foreign investor invest in a country that woul terminate agreements as it suits them anytime? Yet we complain that foreigners do not want to invest in Nigeria, honestly I do not blame those that choose not too.
