New IRCC Update (Effective Sept 1, 2025)

🔹 All applicants — including those reapplying after a refusal will be treated as fresh applications. Make sure you update your documents before resubmitting for a study permit.

🔹 The minimum required funds for a single applicant have increased from $20,635 to $22,895. This applies to all international students applying for a study permit on or after September 1, 2025.

🔹 For multi-year programs, you must show proof that your first year’s tuition is fully paid

Why is this group so quiet? I should be hearing news of F1 approval na
People already know that the U.S. is now giving only 3 months visa validity, so it makes more sense to apply around 2–3 months before your school starts. For those going for the January intake, November is when most people will likely start applying. The tough part is that some have even given up on the U.S. because with this short validity, you can’t just travel to see your loved ones and come back freely you’d have to go through the whole visa process again. That’s why many are beginning to see it as stressful and less flexible.

I don’t mind if the visa is valid for only 3 months. My main concern is that many of us received earlier visa appointment dates several months before the school resumption date. According to U.S. policy, F1 visa holders are only allowed to enter the U.S. up to 30 days before the start of their program. So, if someone gets their visa approved 3–4 months ahead of resumption, they may not be able to travel in time before the visa expires

3-months visa policy cannot work on F1 visas . Take it to B1/B2.
We can’t really do anything about it since the policy applies to non-immigrant visas, and the F1 visa falls under that category.

That’s why I’m asking has anyone recently gotten their F1 visa under the new rule.

How exactly does the 3-month validity work?

Does it start counting from the date of issue, or closer to the program start date?
For instance, if your program begins in January 2026 but you get your visa in September 2025, would it still be valid by resumption?

You'll be required to submit transcripts from all the schools you've attended, not just the highest degree attained. Cheers!
Thank you for your kind response. Does it need to be official, especially the undergraduate transcript?

It may be a bit challenging to obtain from the school since I am currently not in Nigeria

PNP is slow in most province in Canada @ the moment, infact in some provinces the allocation available has been overwhelmed by candidates in the pool...

In Prince Edward island: PEI slow down it's PNP due to housing shortage in the province..only in demand occupations are now drawn..

Alberta In Alberta some programs in the PNP has been paused due to shortage of allocation, Alberta demanded for extra allocation from the federal government, which was denied

Manitoba skill workers in Manitoba are protesting against the new government for changes that didn't favor the majority including discriminations, longer waiting time for nominations and invitation to apply,at the moment no occupation specific draws, including international students stream!! PNP is messed up in Manitoba at the moment due to funding, incompetence and shortage of staffs!!
And Lack of processing nominations even the new incompetent government returned 2000 allocation / slots to the federal for Saskatchewan to use..

All temporary residents including temporary foreign workers and international students for the 21,500 slots..

I submitted on the 24th Jan have done medical and biometric, both has been passed, but I'm really scared with this one dey re withdrawing application
If you're applying for college or undergraduate programs, make sure to include an attestation letter with your application. Currently, applications for these levels are on hold, except for those pursuing master's, PhD, and certain professional courses such as pharmacy. If your application falls outside of these categories and was submitted after the January 22nd announcement, it will be returned, and your visa fee will be refunded.

As of today February 27, there is no new information from the school and province about the attestation letter. I'm concerned for those anticipating the May intake; if attestation letters are issued toward the end of March, it might pose a challenge in expediting the visa process.

Is there anyone here waiting for an attestation letter for the May intake?

You might be correct.
I was supposed to submit Study Permit application yesterday for my wife who got an admission to study a 1 yr Diploma as. a Disability Support Worker, Saskatchewan Polytechnic for August 2024.
With this new policy on getting a mandatory attestation letter from the province attached else the application would be returned, how long do one wait for this? Cos I already googled and made other enquiries and it seem not to be available yet. Anybody with useful information would greatly be appreciated by me and others to learn from.
Thanks a lot
You just have to wait

Please, I need your advice.

Good morning house, please I need the advice of the gurus on this thread. My visa application has been approved and I have received my stamped passport. However, I listed my partner as one of my home ties, I even included pictures of us from 2019 till date, stating that I would come back after my study to get married.

Now, he wants us to get married before I leave in April 2024.

1) If we get married in April, do I need to inform IRCC of the change in my marital status and most importantly, would that not raise concerns?

2) Is there a duration people need to be married for before they can apply for SOWP? If I have to get married, I would want him to join me, maybe after six months or a year.

Please I need advice.
I suggest you consider the option of getting married before relocating. Once you arrive in Canada, you can then apply for your partner spouse open work permit within a month or two of your arrival. There is no specific time, as long as you can provide a valid explanation for your partner's need to join you in Canada.

During your spouse open work permit application, it is important to emphasize the significance of your relationship and the support you need from each other, such as financial or emotional support, can further strengthen your application. This can be explained in your application as the basis for your spouse open work permit request.

The application process may require documentation such as a marriage certificate and wedding pictures, which can help to strengthen your case.

While I have provided answers to a few of your questions, I must inform you that I am not an expert in this field and I may not have all the information you seek. Therefore, I suggest waiting for a knowledgeable professional to provide comprehensive answers to the remaining questions.

Hello when you sent the updates POF, was it same amount in your account in your initial application that was in the updated POF? Or you had increased the funds in the POF?

Major reason I'm asking.

If at the time of application, you had enough funds for your studies going by the exchange rate at the time.. But after submitting your application, exchange rate has gone way up making the funds in your POF insufficient.

What should one do in this case? They have currently not asked for an updated POF though. Just asking so I can prepare.
Regarding the request for an updated bank statement by the visa officer. There could be a few reasons why they require this information.

One possibility is that they may want to confirm if the funds you initially presented are still available in your account. This is a common practice to ensure that the financial documentation provided aligns with the current status of your finances.

Another possibility is that the visa officer may need to assess whether the amount you currently have in your account meets the Proof of Funds (POF) requirements. This could be due to fluctuations in the exchange rate, where the current exchange rate may have increased and rendered the amount you previously provided as insufficient.

To address this request, it would be advisable to present an updated bank statement that reflects the current exchange rate at the time of submission. This will help provide a more accurate representation of your financial situation and meet the visa officer's requirements.

Please ensure that the new bank statement clearly shows the available funds, the current exchange rate, and any necessary information to support your application.

Please note that these suggestions are based on my personal opinion.

I hope this information is helpful.

Finally, Nairaland is back.

PPR dn drop, finally guys!
It dropped 30 minutes after my deferral request to was approved. 😂

Timeline:
Submitted application on October 18
Upfront medicals and biometrics had earlier been captured in my 1st application (This is my second application)
No update or progress whatsoever on my dashboard until Dec 18, when I received PPR. Till now, eligibility is still in progress as with background check. Lol

After I had done my findings, I came to the realization that there were number of things missing in my first application, and it had failed in a number of places so I decided to bring reinforcements on the second application.

First application was self-sponsored, and the refusal was due to insufficient funds even though 70% sch fees was paid, 10k GIC, and 5m for other small stuff.

I applied for gcsm note but didn't get any so I reapplied.

For the second application, here are the documents I submitted:
1. Passport Data Page
2. Affidavit of Return
3. Certificate of State of Origin
4. Police Character Certificate
5. Certificate of Birth
6. E-medical information Sheet (Upfront medicals)
7. Statement of Purpose
8. Academic/Professional resume
9. Letter of Introduction
10. Professional certifications
11. Property ownership (land and a car)
12. Full tuition confirmation receipt
13. 10k GIC certificate
14. Mybank statement
15. Pension Reg Certificate
16. Pension Statement
17. Contract Agreements
18. Employment Letters
18. Payslips
19. Tax Clearance certificate
20. Acceptance Letter
21. Nysc Certificate
22. Degree Cert
23. Statement of results
24. Students transcript
25. Waec cert and testimonial

I wanna thank y'all for your contributions on this platform, all of you! Y'all have such a great community. Didn't have to ask many questions because the questions were already asked and the answers provided accordingly, all I needed to do was to read through each page.
Congratulations 🎉

Is there anyone who has a similar case and what is the best option for a case like this? I came to Europe in 2021 with a study visa for a bachelor's degree in management. My program is supposed to last for three years, and my original plan was to graduate by February 2024. However, I decided to take a year off from school to work. Currently, I have no intention of completing my studies as I have been accepted into a one-year program at a Canadian school, which is relevant to my business back home as well.

My question is how do I justify my stay in Europe for a Canadian visa, even though I have a valid residence card that allows me to apply from here? The issue is how can I explain why I am in Europe to obtain a Canadian study visa. Can anyone provide advice on the best approach for situations like this? Has anyone applied for a visa outside of Nigeria with a similar case like mine?
