CALABAR— FOUR Teenage girls, who were tricked into
prostitution in a notorious Calabar brothel, Vegas Flex,
weekend recounted how they sleep with more than
20 men daily and how their ‘Madam’ collects the money.
The girls, Felicia Nzuworgar, 17; Patience Williams, 18;
Angela Benjamin, 17 and Charity Nkwogor all from
Okun Local Government Area of Benue state said
Abigail Aliyu whom they call “Chair Lady” took them
from their homes in Benue State in January this year
on the pretext that she was taking them to Lagos to
work as sales girls in her drinking spot, but ended up as
sex workers in the brothel located at 26 Bedwell
Street, Calabar.
One of the girls, Felicia, told Vanguard, “the woman
told me that she has a beer parlour in Lagos and
wanted me to work as sales girl there, but when we got
here she gave me boxer shorts to wear and when I
asked her where the drinking parlour is for me to start
working, she said I should hustle like other girls by
sleeping with men and when I refused she beat me up.”
The girls, with different cane marks on their bodies,
said the lady beat them to submission, adding that
when they started it was very painful as they were not
used to sleeping with such large number of men daily.
Patience recounting her experience said “Every day we
sleep with over twenty men for N500.00 each and
because we are young, men do line up to have us. At
about 12 midnight, ‘Chair Lady’ will come in and collect
the money, because she counts the condoms she gives
to us, if you do not give her all the money she will beat
you mercilessly The girls said Abigail and the men working for her normally, searched their room and their bodies at the close of each day to ensure they had not hidden any money and beaten if any money was found on them. They said Abigail on arrival in Calabar collected their phones and did not allow any of them to step outside the brothel for fear that they might run away. They said when Angela and Charity attempted to escape that they were beaten to a state of unconsciousness by the woman and some of her male friends. Angela said “ When I tried running away, she brought a soldier and a policeman, who are her boyfriends, and they beat me up and poured tear gas in my eyes. I later fell sick because of that beating for many days”. On why they followed the woman without letting their parents know, they said once the woman touched them on the shoulders they became confused and went with her. “ I was walking in our market in Okun Local Government Area when she greeted me and touched me on the shoulder and that was how I followed her and we entered vehicle to Enugu to the house of a juju man, who prepared a medicine (concoction) for us to drink which she said was to protect us from sickness, but when we got to Calabar, she said if we run away the medicine the man gave us will make our private part to rot,” Charity narrated. But the Ebonyi State born, “Chair Lady” , Abigail Aliyu , said her arrest by operatives of the Anti Human Trafficking operatives of the Cross River State Police Command was due to jealousy, adding that she was not the one that brought the girls to Calabar. Mr John Eluu, Cross River State Police Public Relations Officer, said the woman will soon be charged to court after investigation and warned youths to be cautious and not go with anyone who promises them jobs in Lagos or any other town without any proof.

Abuja - The Senior Pastor of Champions Royal Assembly, Kubwa, Abuja, Joshua Iginla on Sunday, gave out 32 cars out of which were 16 SUVs to celebrate his birthday. Iginla also gave out money running into several millions of naira to the aged, widows, orphanages and scholarships to orphans from nursery school to university. Six Nollywood actors and actresses got Hummer jeep 3 series, Mercedes G-Wagon and Mercedes CLS 550. They include Jide Kosoko, Francis Duru, Alex Usifo, Ngozi Osondu, Thelma Nwosu and Sunday Omobolanle, popularly known as Babaluwe. Artisans got generators and cash gifts while the widows got deep freezers, rice and cash gifts ranging from N150,000 to N1.5 million. Treasure Orphanage Foundation, Nyanya, Divine Wound Orphanage, Kubwa and Christ Home Foundation, Kuje, got N1.5 million each and rice while some orphans in the homes were awarded scholarships from nursery to university. Iginla said he had 782 widows and orphans he caters for. ``It doesn't matter to me if I trek home as I have given even the car that I personally drive. ``I can only drive one car and live in one house at a time. This understanding is what has taught me that when I die, others will inherit my assets. ``The beauty of life is not in its duration but in its donation. I have not seen some of the beneficiaries before in my life or spoken to them. ``I'm seeing many of them for the first time today. I am seeing Jide Kosoko for the first time", he said. Iginla also said he gave cars to the Nollywood actors because many of them were poor but people erroneously think they were rich. According to him, the fruit of the Nollywood artistes were being reaped by pirates and challenged government to do something to arrest it. ``The Nollywood actors and actresses are our ambassadors; they have projected the image of this country positively", he said. Kosoko, who confirmed he was meeting Iginla for the first time, commended him for his philanthropy. Iginla had, in 2015, given 18 cars and millions of naira as birthday gifts to people to celebrate his birthday. Man threatens to divorce wife for addiction to
Telemundo, Zeeworld
Abuja - A Pediatrician based in Abuja, Mr Chibuzor Eze
has threatened to divorce his wife of so many years for
her addiction to popular foreign soap operas,
Telemundo and Zeeworld.
``I will divorce my wife if she doesn’t stop with this
Zeeworld and Telemundo obsession,” Eze said on
Thursday in Abuja.
Eze, who works with one of the government hospitals in
Abuja, said he had informed his wife, Dorothy a week
ago that her obsession to the popular soaps was
interfering with her marital life.
``I told her last week that I was fed up with how her
obsession with these channels was making her to
neglect her duty as a wife and mother.
``Yet she keeps watching these shows when she’s
supposed to be partaking in more important things like
taking care of the children and cooking reasonable food
for us,” Eze said.
The pediatrician said he had to buy food from
restaurants four times last week, as his wife had either
forgotten to prepare food for the family or burnt the
food she was preparing because she was watching
Zeeworld and Telemundo.
``Tell me, is this not enough to sue for divorce.
``As a doctor, I have a very hectic job and should come
home to a tasty hot meal.
``I have purchased foods from restaurants four times
in the last week, because I came home to an empty pot
or burnt food and this is unacceptable.’’ he said.
According to him, this is after I talked and complained
to her about the effect Zee world and Telemundo are
having on her.
``On Tuesday, she forgot to pick our 10-year-old
daughter from school because she was watching her
shows.
``If these careless acts continue, I will be forced to
leave her, because I won’t appreciate coming home to a
burnt down house one day. |

At ₦145/L price, Nigerians buy one of the cheapest
Petrol in the world - Daramola Babalola
On the 12th of May, 2016 Nigerians woke up to
the detestable reality that they will now have to
pay ₦145 per litre for Premium Motor Spirit
(PMS), otherwise called petrol representing over
40% increase from the previous pump price,
₦86.50
While some are mobilizing for '#occupyNigeria season 2',
labour unions in the country are currently planning to
commence an indefinite nationwide strike action that will
'shutdown the economy' on Wednesday in a bid to protest
the increase in fuel price.
Following the harsh economic realities Nigeria is currently
facing, many Nigerians have labelled the Federal
Government as being insensitive to the plight of its citizen
by making fuel too expensive for consumption.
But really, how expensive is fuel in Nigeria, compared to
other countries? and is the Nigerian government really
insensitive? We are about to find out.
At ₦145/Litre, is fuel too expensive in
Nigeria?
As surprising as it may seem, Nigeria is ranked 12th as per
cheapest price of petrol in 173 countries even with the new
₦145 per litre price according to
Globalpetrolprices.com
In Nigeria, fuel now costs ₦145/L and with the current
exchange rate that is fluctuating between ₦320-₦360 to a
dollar, it means we are paying about $0.44/L
It may however interest you to know that in United
States, fuel is sold at the pump price of $0.65/L ( ₦214/L),
In South Africa $0.84/L (₦277), In Russia $0.55/L
(₦181/L), $0.91/L (₦300/L) in Canada, $0.92 (₦303/L) in
Ghana, and it costs $0.93 (₦306/L) in China.
Some will argue that the countries above are not petroleum
exporting countries (OPEC) like Nigeria, but what about
OPEC member countries like Angola, where PMS is sold at
$1/L (about ₦330), In Iraq at $0.64/L (₦211), In
Venezuela pump price is $0.60/L (₦198/L)
with President Nicolas Maduro calling the
approximately ₦198/L pump price 'one of the cheapest in
the world'.
Even in the oil rich, United Arab Emirates (UAE) PMS is
sold at $0.45/L which is about (₦148/L) which is more
expensive than the price in Nigeria.
According to Globalpetrolprices.com In Hong Kong,
the pump price is set at $1.85/L (about ₦610/L) making the
country the most expensive seller of gasoline in the world.
With the facts and figures above, at ₦145/L fuel is not
expensive, it's actually one of the cheapest in the world, but
because of the poor living conditions of millions of
Nigerians, it appears expensive and thus, many Nigerians
struggle to afford it.
That is why the government needs to provide welfare
programs, kill that disease called corruption, invest in
electricity, education, fix refineries, provide jobs and
increase minimum wage to reduce poverty in the country,
because the current ₦18,000 minimum wage is too small
compared to how much we buy petrol. www.nigerianeye.com/2016/05/at-145l-price-nigerians-buy-one-of.html?m=1 |

FFacebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg has announced the launch of Free Basics service, a platform that will provide access to mobile websites and services to internet users for free. The service has will be provided by Airtel Nigeria which will give millions free access to Facebook even when you have no data. While making the announcement to the world, Zuckerberg part statement read: “Today we’re partnering with Airtel Africa to launch Internet.org Free Basics in Nigeria. There’s a lot of innovation across Africa right now, and Nigeria in particular is home to a lot of talented developers. In 2009, Olalekan Elude, Ayodeji Adewunmi and Opeyemi Awoyemi started a site called Jobberman in their dorm to help connect people looking for work with companies looking to hire. Now Jobberman is one of the top 100 websites in Nigeria, and it gets 5,000 applications every day. Free Basics offers Nigerians, including 90 million people who are currently offline, the opportunity to access news, health information and services like Jobberman that were built by Nigerians and other developers across West Africa — all without having to pay for data. Free Basics is now live in more than 40 countries, and half of those are in Africa. Over the next few months, we’ll be doing even more to connect developers with people who can use their apps — and partner with local companies to bring internet to people across Africa who don’t have access to mobile networks. In the meantime, I’m excited to see what Nigerians build next! http://www.9jastreet.com/facebook-launches-free-internet-browsing-nigeria-read-details/ |
Buhari, APC deceived Nigerians, have brought them untold

He said; “When they were seeking for votes from Nigerians,

N45 per litre, they promised to create three million jobs per
year, they said $1 will be equal to N1 and above all, they
promised to pay unemployed youths N5, 000 stipend and
provide one meal a day to pupils nationwide. “Instead of
fulfilling their promises, they have increased petrol pump

The head of Egypt’s Information Service has blamed Tom and Jerry for the rise of ISIS – claiming the characters encourage extremism and teach children that you can blow people up. Ambassador Salah Abdel Sadek said the cartoon as well as video games and ‘violent’ movies helped to spark violence and extremism across the Arab world. He told an audience at Cairo University that Tom and Jerry contributed to the notion that violence was a ‘natural’ part of life. According to Egyptian Streets, he said: ‘[The cartoon] portrays the violence in a funny manner and sends the message that, yes, I can hit him…and I can blow him up with explosives. It becomes set in [the viewers’] mind that this is natural.’ He added that it has become common place for young men to spend hours playing violent video games and that the gamer will be ‘happy and content’. http://www.9jastreet.com/senior-egypt-official-blames-tom-jerry-isis/ |

A man’s wife is his possession. She is part of his investment. He believes that by the virtue of anointing her as his wife, he has elevated her status amongst her peers and accorded her a respectable position in society. No matter how he treats her, it is around her that he builds his empire and nurtures his desires and hopes for the future. The fruits of his labour are expended on his wife and the fruits of their loins, with the belief that they will be the joys of his old age. No matter the circumstances or situation of their relationship, whether good or bad, this oftentimes does not erode her value or undermine her position in his home and life. For as long as she remains the chosen one, she is expected to be out of reach for other men. Being a Mrs is no mean tag. An exalted position such as wife, must also come with its demands and responsibilities and one of them, if not top on the list, is fidelity: the resolve to preserve one’s self and body to the service of another. Though this is supposed to be mutually binding on the two, man and wife, African culture, tradition and the assumed and accepted polygamous nature of the male specie, make this more binding on the woman, than the man. In fact, the Holy books seem to affirm this position. The Bible admonishes women to submit to their husbands while the Qur’an counsels that they guard their husbands’ secrets. Even moral and societal values, and health considerations compel it upon the woman, that she stays faithful to her husband. Women found wanting in this regard, no matter their social status and rating, usually fall from grace to grass. Men consider it a slight on their manhood and a short change on their investment. Most find it difficult to forgive such women and the consequences are sometimes grievous or even deadly. However, this position now appears to have changed over time. It is now almost a daily occurrence to hear chilling confessions of various shades of infidelity from and about married women. Many of these stories leave one’s mouth gaping and mind confused. There is the tale of a woman with five children in Oke Ira, Ogba, Lagos State, Nigeria who ended up confessing that only two of them belong to her husband. One being for the husband’s younger brother and two for her lovers. The cat was let out of the bag when the lover insisted on taking custody of his two children. Refusing all pleas from the woman, he went straight to her husband and divulged the sordid details. A similar scenario played out in Meiran area of Alagbado, on the borders of Lagos and Ogun states. Olusho, spiritual leader of a white garment church, in one single blow lost his wife and two children to one of his rich patrons. His wife on being caught in her web of lies, decided there was no point denying herself and two children of the luxury their biological father could provide for them any longer. So, rather than plead with Olusho to cover her misdeed and shame, she simply organised a haulage vehicle and with the support of her rich lover, moved out same day despite the intervention of neighbours and elders around. Olusho’s spiritual ministry came to an abrupt end. In another case, a young man narrowly escaped being convicted of child trafficking and perjury by the American immigration authorities. On the graduation of his first child from high school in the UK, he figured that he could work out a cheaper deal with his college expenses since he is an American citizen and the boy also holds an American Passport. So, he filed all the necessary papers. Everything was perfect until a DNA test to prove paternity revealed he was not the biological father of the boy. To save his neck, he was forced to reveal that his marriage to the boy’s mother ended when he discovered she was carrying a pregnancy that was not his. Without a sense of remorse, she confessed that the pregnancy was for her boss at the office and moved out of her matrimonial home, relocating to London. A few years after, the first of the other three children was discovered not to belong to her husband as well. The teenage boy also turned out to be the biological child of the same man, her boss who fathered the last child. However, more intriguing in this drama of infidelity are the men who are privy to the shenanigans of their wives and turn a blind eye to them. Every time, I come across such stories, I marvel at the level of depravation and immorality that must have gone into such an alliance. Several reasons have been postulated for such developments which to my understanding bothers majorly on finance and material gains and self centeredness. Few have to do with saving public image. For, what is left to be salvaged in the public image of a man whose wife’s sexual escapades with other men is no secret? Is he protecting his wife or his children, or simply pushing off the day of his eventual spiritual and physical death? Stories of men who connive with their wives to conceive children by other men and claim ownership of such children also beat my imagination. For me, this is the height of self deceit and should the cookie crumble, the man still remains the ultimate loser. The children, no matter their level of disappointment, will still know their mother as such. One of such stories that springs up in my mind is that of a man who after becoming a “born again” Christian decided to seek restitution. (Whatever that meant to him!) He allegedly woke up one day and summoned his wife of over 30 years of marriage and their three children to a meeting where he spilled the beans. The three children, the last, an undergraduate and another, already married, were not his. They were arranged by his wife for him to cover his shame and inability to father a child, many years ago. Now that he had been set free of all burdens and shame by his heavenly father, he no longer felt a sense of compulsion to keep such a thing secret anymore and so, wanted to set the records straight with the truth. His wife should tell him and the children who fathered them. Thereafter, he would seek forgiveness and permission from the man to continue to play his fatherly role on the children. Naturally, the children took sides with their mother and denounced their father’s actions, even the church was not on his side, for his queer manner of restitution. Such an arrangement to my understanding is a no brainer on the part of such a man, and a win-win situation for the woman who got an unlimited access to jump into bed with any man of her choice, conceive pregnancies outside of the matrimony and openly raise them with another man’s sweat. Even then, emerging trends point to the fact that Nigeria is gradually catching up with the West in what is termed as open marriage. An open marriage is a union where the partners are permitted to have sexual relationships with other partners. The terms of what is permissible for the two is often spelt out and the partners adhere to these rules. The plus side of this arrangement is that the partners get to enjoy the benefits of two worlds. First is the respect and social status that marriage provides and the other is the freedom to explore their sexuality without actually rocking the boat. While this may not actually be a common or detailed trend in Nigeria, what is true and now gaining ground is a practice where the husbands pretend not to know about their wives extra-marital affairs but bask in the benefit that such relationships offer. A distraught married woman whose husband was deeply and openly involved with another married woman sought audience with the woman’s husband with the hope of resolving what had now become an embarrassing situation for her. The man patiently heard her out but his response almost knocked her off her feet. He trusts his wife completely and has no problems with her relationship with a man he considers a great mentor in their lives, he insisted. If she has problems with her husband, she should go and address it and not drag him into her war. All her evidences and plea to help save her marriage were discarded by the woman’s husband. Many men who have identified where their breads are being buttered, courtesy of their wives generosity have learnt to look the other way, if only to sustain the lifestyle they have or to remain in their imaginary social status. It is no longer an abomination to know that your wife is unfaithful. If the benefits or proceeds from the relationship are worthwhile enough, knowing the man can only be icing on the cake as the guy can also get something on the side for himself if he plays his cards well. Another category of open marriage in the Nigeria of our time is one where the wife is not into the affair for material or monetary gains, but for personal emotional fulfilment. These couples are usually rich or powerful members of the society and have an image to protect. Many reasons may be attributed to this, such as the sexual inadequacies of the man which tend to result in extra-marital affair(s) by the woman. In a situation where the wife is discreet enough about it, and the family name, business and connections are not affected in any way, some of these men willingly look the other way these days. More so when the men are no saints themselves. Once, in a conversation with a male colleague who is in his second marriage, he informed me that he could never divorce his wife on the basis of infidelity since he is guilty of same. According to him, should he walk in on her and her lover, he would excuse himself and walk away, focusing more on her good sides. He insists this was a mistake he made with his first marriage and has vowed not to allow such a little thing ruin his happy home ever again, now that he is wiser. (Hmmm! Aren’t some of us just lucky? ) Do have a wonderful weekend! |
