Hello Everyone, I have been a silent reader i'm just about starting the process
I'm not sure about the guidelines for people in our Category on CIC website. We are a family of four (all siblings), we lost our Parents. we want to apply for PR as a family. My question is can the 1st born who is a lawyer with 5 years experience with a top law firm in Nigeria apply as the principal applicant and the rest of us as dependents or maybe i can be a supporting applicants. please anyone who has gone through the process or familiar with the guidelines can help in explaining. we are using my brother because of his qualification and work experience.
Note: we are all unmarried and 3 degree holders( the rest don't have solid work experience like he does).
NO YOU CAN ONLY APPLY INDIVIDUALLY

How long will you be away for your MSc? Well, to be eligible for a Canadian citizenship, you have to (among other requirements) spend a minimum cumulative period of 2 of 5 years living in Canada as a PR. Sure you can go back to the US as soon as you receive your Canadian PR card but do you think you would be able to meet that criterion while studying for a funded MSc program outside Canada? Mind you, chances are that you'd be stripped of your PR status if/when it is probable that you cannot meet that requirement for citizenship eligibility so you need to thread court
You mean 3 of 5 years?

I actually laughed. Abeg don't be angry joor. Life is not that complicated. If not for Nigeria wahala no body would really want to leave. It is well oh!!!!!.
Have a very great and happy day.
My Uncle finished studying pharmacy in the US in the late 60s/ early 70s he didnt have enough money to come back when immigration caught him for overstaying, he said he just threw his hands up and told them to send him back home, baba was so confident of where he is coming back to, if that happens today, immigration will never smell where he's at. E go better

Hello house, I have been a silent follower of this thread because my relocation plans are still in process. I will be coming in as a PhD student in September.
I hope to come with my children leaving the Don himself behind. He plans to come visiting as often as he can.
Why am I giving this unsolicited narrative, I for one currently cannot see myself leaving in Canada all my days. Nigeria has to be rebuilt, if we all permanently relocate, how do we wish to make Nigeria a better place? However there are those who their permanent relocation also contributes to making Nigeria better. How you may ask, when you help that family member start a business back home you might just be creating jobs for a few people. When you make investment back home you contribute to the economy.
In the spirit of fighting that we are in, I wanted to respond angrily to this until I read till the end and I saw you might want to take a political office in the future, so I decided to chill.

Point one - I have come to realize that the process of relocating is gradually becoming a reflex reaction that people start without waiting for confirmation from the brain (I knew I was right when I saw 2 different ppl parking their cha cha Toyota landcruiser during the IELTS general test).

Point two - The bolded above, Nigeria only needs about 20 million of you to make it work, the rest of us will go no matter what.

Point three - Some people are okay staying in Nigeria BUT I see them crossing to our side very soon when that fuel price goes to #250/liter (the process has started).

Point four - I am still in Nija surviving day to day and already looking forward to the day I will comeback (for few days holiday o) with my grand kids showing them how things are now better.

As to my first statement I wasnt angry grin grin grin grin grin

ICES or WES, Which is faster?

Like for ICES, Share for WES.

Watching shocked
I will make it easy for you,

ICES accepts e-mail transcript directly from school - WES does not (that will save you some courier fee ''to'' but you pay ''from''

ICES Turn around time is faster (Around 3 weeks after school sends the e-mail)WES You are at the mercy of your school to respond to reconfirmstion

ICES So far you quote your reference number, they will always respond to you inquiry - WES Not sure about them but there are complaints in this regard.

ICES Does not reconfirm transcripts from schools - WES Reconfirms transcripts from schools (you no what that means if you went to a village school that you cant get to in a jiffy).

ICES Does not send ECA by e-mail upon completion (only through courier) - WES Sends ECA through courier

Why not go there towards your visa expiration, complete landing formalities then use the next 2 years to know if that's what you want. It will give you about 3 years to make up your mind. You can even go on holiday there a few times.
@rainazoe please if you are not considering any other option, please take this one that I quoted from XX01 its a win win for you. You will see the effect when the kids are in their late teens/early 20s

This is an idea that I have been nursing for sometimes.
In Computer Science I have a passion for automation.
As a result of this, I had learned how to make automated toys for my kids.
Given that I had to use wood to make those toys, I have developed a passion for Carpentry in the process.
My home garage has been turned into a workshop. I have bought a lot of equipment (Table saw, Milter saw, Gigsaw ... ), .

For the time being, I am sharpening my skills in Carpentry and electronics (automation) by making toys for my kids and do few works around the house. But as time goes by, I will get involved with new projects and ideas

For instance, today I came across this thread on Nairaland (How Does Wheelbarrow Leasing Run)
https://www.nairaland.com/4264143/how-does-wheelbarrow-leasing-run
Among the cons that was presented in this thread was the fact that the person who lease the wheelbarrow can run away with it.
Then I thought to myself that the owner of the wheelbarrow can remotely activate an electronic device that is build into the wheelbarrow to lock the wheel in case the wheelbarrow isn't returned. There is also away to electronically locate the wheelbarrow in case it isn't returned. Maybe I should build such a wheelbarrow and send it to someone in Nigeria grin

In any case, I am no longer interested in working for any company. I just want to have the freedom to be on my own.
Flood will spoil the electronic gadget you place on the wheel grin grin grin grin grin

Yes, CIC advises applicants not to resign until when residency application is confirmed.

It is also clearly stated by CIC on their website that funds not readily available as at the time of providing your proof of funds cannot count, infact they even went ahead to advise if you can sell a land, car or property but using a land document or 10 cars or any document & giving a timeline for the availability of the fund is not accepted except they change the rule tomorrow.
The word unencumbered funds was used for it meaning readily available, not slowed down, free from mortgage or any limitation of the law.

Lets be guided accordingly so we dont slow our application process
But they still accept that encumbered 25% pension. As you can see, people are using it and PPR is falling on them grin grin.
This issue was extensively thrashed in the earlier days of part 2 of this thread.

Mbah o. I completely disagree. That award is solely reserved for Ogun State University (at least that’s the name by which I knew it), now Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU). Transcript request is still pending since December last year. They said the new ‘madam’ in charge says they must look for the exam papers for verification and they are yet to find them. Same school that has issued transcript to me before (which I still have a copy of). And this is after paying N50k!!!

Thank God for foreign education. I would still have been jonesing outside the pool now. They are such a shame and a disgrace.

The award for the most useless institution in Nigeria goes to Ladoke Akintola University of Technology. Today makes it 5 months that i have been trying to get my certificate and transcript.

**drops mic*
As an independent observer who did not go to any of these schools and who completed his assessment in one month, I hereby declare Olabisi Onabanjo University the winner of these gross incompetence and backward advancement of our educational society in Nigeria. thank you

Nice post, but you're wrong by saying Nigeria is unknown. Infact, you have the freedom to control your life in Nigeria without committing anything to the govt

As a high earner in Nigeria, you have the option of sending your kids to the best schools here or abroad, the choice is yours

You can produce your own electricity if you don't want to depend on the govt for it, you can remove yourself entirely from paying PHCN bills with no questions asked, hence you can put on your light knowing there will be light all the time. Try alternative power or move to areas with good light supply e.g Osun, Jos, Abuja etc tongue

Also, you can chose to stay in service flats with 24/7 light supply and 24/7 security, you don't have to travel to Canada to achieve this, trust me if you can afford a service flat you can have this too. Or better still, take advantage of security gadgets like alarms and such, you can also get a gun licence or employ private security guards

In Nigeria, just get a sim, register and use your line to access any state or country in the world, no need for long stories, pay as you go, o'er second billing, cheap data

Your flat should have water running but if it doesn't, I personally will prefare supplying my own treated water via boreholes so that I can maintain the standard to my taste, if this is not your forte, make sure you rent a flat or house with running water or find out how you can get your house connected to the govt's own.

In Lagos, I assure you that emergency numbers are all working, I'm not too sure about other States but in Lagos, it works.

To avoid Maina eating your pension funds, you can subscribe to any reputable RSA of your choice and if you are into private business, you can try life assurance policy, these are privately owned not govt's so no Mainas here

For relaxation, you can plan summer trips or seasonal trips as you wish and I assure you, if you can prove that you are a genuine traveller, getting a visa wouldn't be an issue for you. Let them know you aren't deserting your country and you will definitely get visa without stress

To be sure your children will never experience strikes by lecturers, you can make use of the numerous private universities we have down here, 100% strike free

As for hospitals, try researching for good ones and get familiar with your doctors also take advantage of HMOs to get good deals for your medical insurance. It will save you a lot of money

Who will take care of senior citizens? Definitely children, relatives or even good Samaritans. It's hard to come across an elderly person without at least a helper but if such occurs, old people's homes are still available here. If you have the money, you can get a life long domestic staff to support and care for you in the comfort of your home

When next you arrive and someone askes you "Wetin you bring come?* smile and tell him nothing, if you need someone to welcome you with a smile, you can invite friends and family to pick you up at the Airport

The land is truly green and beautiful.
Joor me I just have one small question, Please the nollywood actor in your narrative up there, is he still going to pay Tax after providing all those basic amenities for himself?

Hello Keni,

Thanks for your prompt response.

Please, during your application, how did you treat this part of the application:

I understand that payment is by credit card. That after they must have received the application, they will respond via mail with my reference number and requesting me to make payment by filling my credit card details in a fax payment form to be sent to me then. So, am I required to fill the credit card details now in this application stage?

Also, kindly share with us, how long did it take you from application till today you received the ECA.

Thanks and kind regards.
They will notify you when payment is due, they will request your card details in the form, you fill it and fax to them, then they charge it.
The assessment was completed 3.5 weeks after Unilag had sent my transcript via e-mail & I had made payment.

Good afternoon Superdoll,

Thanks once again for your response.

Quick one dear . . .

When filling the ICES application form, did you also fill that part that talks about giving ICES permission to release my info to another party?

Also, did you choose to pay the extra $75 for courier? If you used standard (just the normal $200) did ICES dispatch the hard copy evaluation to your address?
When I filled my application I just typed Canadian Immigration and All Canadian Provinces
The extra $75 will enable them courier the ECA to you because they wont send you soft copy. Funny enough I just went to UPS to collect mine today at UPS office when I tracked and I saw the thing hanging in their office due to incomplete address (na road my house de o) they said the address is not popular.

When they called me to come, I already knew because my colleague in the office already warned me about them, he had his own encounter last year. I was just playing along with the girl that called me, then she insisted I must give her my wife's number so they can break the news of the WIN to her, I told her not to worry I will do that when I get home, babe no gree o, because I know whats up I did not also back down. First thing in the morning she called me and I told her I will be there, she called again I told her am busy at the office and will join them. Till tomorrow she no gree call again. The may not be scam but the deceit no be here.

What do we do? Any suggestions please?
Any reason why you dont want to get one? If you use GTB and have online banking, you can simply log on and submit a request there.(it will cost you sha o) Thats what I did.

Alternatively you can get a virtual card here https://getbarter.co/# (but there rate high small o) That what I used because I didnt want to leave the office, buy $ from aboki then load my dom account. I gave the details to ICES and they charged the card
