Elder statesman, Edwin Clark, has said the Indigenous People of Biafra is dreaming with its inclusion of the South-South region in Biafra Republic.
IPOB, which has been proscribed by the Nigerian government, is agitating to break the South-East and South-South regions away from Nigeria to form Biafra Republic.
Both regions were part of the defunct Eastern Region which rebelled against Nigeria from 1967 to 1970.
Speaking in an interview with BBC Pidgin on IPOB, Clark said, “They are very unrealistic boys. To me, IPOB is not pursuing the right thing.”
He continued, “I told him(IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu) that he has a good fight, that the people of the East are being neglected. They have only five states, whereas other regions have six. In fact, one has seven. Based on what? Nobody knows.
“For every appointment that is being made in this country, the Igbo are shortchanged. If Universities are being distributed per state, they will have five. Others will have six while North-West will have seven. This is despite the Igbo forming the third leg when this country was created.

When asked if the South-South states are also part of the Biafra that IPOB is agitating for, Clark said, “How can Delta be part of Biafra? In what way? Is Biafra older or bigger than Delta?
“How can Rivers State or Akwa Ibom become part of Biafra? They are dreaming for still thinking about the Eastern Region of those days.”
On Kanu’s rearrest, Clark said, “‘I hope the Federal Government will give him a fair, decent and open trial. Because, up till today, I do not understand how the Federal Government got him back into Nigeria.
“We remember the days of Umaru Dikko who was put in a big box and brought back to Nigeria. I don’t know how this young man (Kanu) was brought back to Nigeria.”
He said claims by Kanu that he was abducted in Kenya has to be addressed by the Kenyan government.

In the wake of the controversy stirred up by the Petroleum Industry Bill (PIB) recently passed by the National Assembly, which allocated only three per cent of the oil revenue to host communities, and 30 per cent of the profits of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) for “frontier” exploration, governor of Akwa Ibom State, Emmanuel Udom, has declared that the decision of the federal legislature would not binding on the Niger Delta people.

“As southern governors we have made our position known, but one thing is clear: the National Assembly may have passed their bill, they are doing their job and we also will do our job as leaders of the people,” he said.

The governor who spoke to journalists in Minna, yesterday, shortly after attending the Speech and Prize-Giving Day of Al-Amin International School, Minna, established by former first lady, Maryam Babaginda, said that it was unfair to give the oil producing communities only three per cent of the oil revenue despite the huge impact of oil exploration in the area.

His words: “Let us see how it goes because people don’t really understand the impact of oil exploration exercise and damage being done to the environment where our people can no longer farm, our fishermen can no longer earn a living because of oil spillages.

“People need to see the devastating effects of oil exploration and the consequences on the lives of the people before someone will begin to think that the oil producing communities are asking for too much. The five percent we are asking for is not too much. We even deserved more than that, but certainly not three percent. So, that decision is not binding on us.”

The governor maintained that what the National Assembly has done is a mere legislative function, which they have performed, adding: “We will also perform our function as the leaders of our people. The communities too have their own function to perform, so everybody has its own function to perform.”

On the way forward for dealing with the current security situation in the country, the governor said only a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) government at the centre can guarantee peace and a stable economy in the country.

“Without bias, without sounding partisan, it is only the PDP that has the solution to the barrage of problems facing this country at the moment. Nigerians have tested the two and they now know the best.”

Continuing, Udom said: “When PDP takes over power at the centre in 2023, the country will return to the path of glory. We in PDP are bridge builders, we will reunite Nigerians; we will build back the economy of Nigeria.”

He pointed out that Nigeria was at the peak of her economic growth when the PDP was in power, but regretted that the Nigerian economy today is nothing to write home about, stressing that Nigerians can barely eat three meals a day.

How did you get the vision to lead a church?

I was called right here many years ago. Just a few meters away was the hut where I was staying as the other one is the hut where I pray and meditate and also read in absolute serenity. Vision comes from God through meditation amidst nature. Surrounded by nature you can concentrate. It is like you are talking of good lawyers, every profession must have a library, where you can sit down and do some studying. Without this place, I will not be able to concentrate and speak with the Almighty. So this is where I started and I must have a library and a place where I can enjoy nature, not the air condition or fan. So having nature around you is very good. God is nature and without nature you cannot understand the bible, because the bible is not history. When you are reading the bible, you are reading the Holy Spirit. So if you don’t allow nature, when you are reading, you will be reading history.

What is your dream for the future of the church?

We intend to build a university of science, which will incorperate our job here. When you talk of science, theology, medicine, these are the areas we will concentrate upon. When you have a student, this is where they should come and review whatever they are taught. You need some place like this,where you leave everything outside and come and hear the cocks crow. But outside here, when they are doing that, you can’t hear them because of noise.


So this place is very important to me. This is where I live, sleep and everything I do. If I want to see people outside here, I go outside, there is time for that, because the bible says that there is time to rest, time to work, time to rest is time to receive from God and time to work is time to give what you receive from God. And when you talk of time to rest, this is the best place to rest, not in the midst of technology or going to New York or travelling about but you rest in the midst of nature.

You said it all started here, how did it start given that this place was a swamp?

This swamp is the rejected stone. God spoke to me and brought me here, I have been following God’s vision and mission. When I am out of God’s mission I am finished. That is why you cannot see me outside here, you cannot hear me speak outside of here. What I want to show you now will leave you shocked. My brother saw it three days ago and was surprised. God’s time is the best and I always follow God’s time. So that is why I only called key people to show them this. So I have been following God’s time, that is why you will not see me preach every Sunday, or go on television to preach every day, I must hear from God before saying anything. Every time can be good for you and every time can be the best time for you, but for me, I must have a corresponding grace or power, because the Holy Spirit must suggest what to do before I do them. If not, I will not be able to have God’s result.

So this is why you are not seeing me out there – at weddings, naming ceremonies and coming to your office to grant and interview, this is the only church – the synagogue here in Ikotun and there is no other branch all over the world but it touches everywhere in the world. So, I am waiting for God to let me know if there will be branches or not. The important thing is that we should focus on building the people and not the church.

Given what is here, not much is reported, why?

They will soon get to know, we are just waiting for God’s time. There are many things to be done in this place. So things are at about 80% completion. If people should know about this place now, we will not be able to complete this job because it will cause distraction. So, it remains a bit for us to get to 95%, when we are at 95% we will let people know. It is going to be by grace, it is not something you pay money for, you can come and see people moving and praying. So, people will get to know; we are waiting for God’s time. After you leave here, I will like you to keep that information to yourself.

Why is it that you don’t want to talk about money?

Not that I don’t want to talk about money, because there are so many poor people around, if I begin to display what I have, can you imagine how much I will hurt those who are here? But whatever I can do to let them know that I understand what they are going through, I will do it. To give them money, to help them, supporting them, not to display what God has given me but to give them the support that they need.

You are always simply dressed, why?

If I have time to dress well I will do that.

Not much is known about your wife and family?

I am very happy about this question. I have a wife and I have children, and even my first daughter is doing her Phd and the second daughter is doing her master’s degree in Oxford. In all, I have three daughters, the last one is still in secondary school. I would have loved my wife to be like me but I cannot make her what I am; it is God. It is not possible for me to anoint her, God is the one that anoints people. So, it is not possible for her to sit here at the same time, this is not biological issue; it is inheritance from the saints, it is a partaker from the saints. Therefore, I should not use anything in my biological life to stop my spiritual life.

I am a native of Arigidi Akoko but as for my divine nature I am a partaker of the inheritance of the saints, therefore, it is so difficult for me. This is an apostolic ministry. It is not a ministry you read bible, go to theology school, you get it and you start preaching. No! It is purely divine. So, it is so difficult for me to display my wife, she has to be ready for God. As much as you are ready for God, God will display her.

Two things that are striking about you. One, you love gigantic projects, and two, you are heavilycriticised by many people. How do you take them when you see them say uncomplimentarythings about you?

It is always good if at the beginning they don’t see what is good about you. If they don’t see your journey at the beginning they will criticise you. It is good for you, at the end. So, if they praise you from the beginning it is not encouraging. If Nigeria has been accepting me right from the beginning of my mission, I think that will affect my mission to the world. I have gone all over the world,I am the only minister of God that organised a crusade in Israel. I have the certificate which was given to me in Israel. And I also went to Nazareth, where Jesus was born and organised a revival there. I am the first man of God to do that and it was carried in newspapers all over the world, Tell Magazine and the rest. An international cable news network carried it live when I was doing the crusade and a certificate was given to me. That is the greatest joy for any minister of God.

Why was there so much controversy about the crusade?

…Because it happened to Jesus, I cannot be greater than my master. A tenant cannot be greater than his landlord. If the landlord is criticised, who is the tenant? That is exactly what happened to Jesus. They said no, the Muslims were on the streets protesting, the Christian, Catholics and all. But I let them know that God sent me to do the revival in Israel. And top government functionaries, including Israel’s Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu also sent his representative. So, on the second day I finished the revival, it was God that took me out of the place and millions of people attended. So, you can imagine a man like that, you know what happened to my building when almost 200 people died in synagogue.? The CD of what happened is out. If they can go to the extent of killing 200 people spread all over the world, just to get me, so anything close to Jesus can be attacked.


This is a church and you don’t have a theological school and you don’t have branches. What happens to the church after you? How will the church grow from just this humble beginning to become a church of the world and after you who takes over?

You don’t watch Emmanuel TV? This is a year now or six months since I preached last and the church still continues. There are five prophets and prophetesses; they are working. They have taken over from me already. There is an American, a British, a French, and a Nigerian.

One thing we have come to identify churches with in Nigeria, is that you have the man of God, his wife, and the first son in the line of succession but you are not toeing that line. It shows that you are looking at something that is beyond you. Are you not worried that some of them could appropriate the church as theirs?

This is where God comes in; it is not a business venture. If it is God, then it is God and then it is true. The issue of family should not come into the issue of the church – that is it; it is undeserved grace.

You mentioned that you are going to have a university of science, is it in the pipeline?

It is the plan of God to have a university of medicine and you know you can’t talk of medicine without talking of science. So, it is going to be university of medicine and theology.


Where is the location of the University?

You can see the people that are working in the ministry from America, United Kingdom, Nigeria, France – so it can be anywhere. It will be a special grace to be in Nigeria.

If God can use you to do this huge project and your country is falling apart, what do you have to say to that?
A prophet has no honour in his own country. The President of South Sudan sent me a letter.

Many pastors want to be Professor, Doctor, Archbishop and all that, why have you remained just a prophet?

Let me tell you that a university has given me PhD but I don’t want to use it. I have OFR in Nigeria, which was given to me by the late President Yar Adua. I didn’t go but I sent my wife. So, if I now begin to use all that, then, what I am saying is that I am not pleased with what God has given me. God has given me so much, so why should I continue to flaunt it around? I should be happy and content. It is not what you are doing but how long it lasts. Many of our rich pastors – millionaires – their legacy is gone. So, it is not what you are doing now but how it is going to last. Lasting promotion comes from God and that is why we call Him everlasting Father.

You restored peace in some countries, and you have gone to help restore hope in some countries. But hope in this country is fading away; why have you not waded in?

God’s time is the best but I want to assure you that – although there is so many issues of disunity, people want to go, this section wants to leave – nothing will happen. We will continue to be Nigeria. God just wants us to learn certain experiences. Experience is the best teacher. Do you know what we have done so far – we are more of an enemy of God than a friend of God in the past. So, I think what we are going through is a lesson and it will soon be over. And I pray that we will live to see it when it is over. So, there is nothing to be afraid of.

You have all of these and you don’t want to intervene in the situation of the larger society, which is Nigeria?

Let me say this – if you have headache and you are not asking me to pray for you, will I now force myself to pray for you? I gave a prophecy on Nigeria that we will drink our oil. I said, ‘This oil you are seeing now – we will drink it’.

So, if they praise you from the beginning it is not encouraging. If Nigeria has been accepting me right from the beginning of my mission, I think that will affect my mission to the world. I have gone all over the world,I am the only minister of God that organised a crusade in Israel. I have the certificate which was given to me in Israel. And I also went to Nazareth, where Jesus was born and organised a revival there. I am the first man of God to do that and it was carried in newspapers all over the world, Tell Magazine and the rest. An international cable news network carried it live when I was doing the crusade and a certificate was given to me. That is the greatest joy for any minister of God.

Why was there so much controversy about the crusade?

…Because it happened to Jesus, I cannot be greater than my master. A tenant cannot be greater than his landlord. If the landlord is criticised, who is the tenant? That is exactly what happened to Jesus. They said no, the Muslims were on the streets protesting, the Christian, Catholics and all. But I let them know that God sent me to do the revival in Israel. And top government functionaries, including Israel’s Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu also sent his representative. So, on the second day I finished the revival, it was God that took me out of the place and millions of people attended. So, you can imagine a man like that, you know what happened to my building when almost 200 people died in synagogue.? The CD of what happened is out. If they can go to the extent of killing 200 people spread all over the world, just to get me, so anything close to Jesus can be attacked.


This is a church and you don’t have a theological school and you don’t have branches. What happens to the church after you? How will the church grow from just this humble beginning to become a church of the world and after you who takes over?

You don’t watch Emmanuel TV? This is a year now or six months since I preached last and the church still continues. There are five prophets and prophetesses; they are working. They have taken over from me already. There is an American, a British, a French, and a Nigerian.

One thing we have come to identify churches with in Nigeria, is that you have the man of God, his wife, and the first son in the line of succession but you are not toeing that line. It shows that you are looking at something that is beyond you. Are you not worried that some of them could appropriate the church as theirs?

This is where God comes in; it is not a business venture. If it is God, then it is God and then it is true. The issue of family should not come into the issue of the church – that is it; it is undeserved grace.

You mentioned that you are going to have a university of science, is it in the pipeline?

It is the plan of God to have a university of medicine and you know you can’t talk of medicine without talking of science. So, it is going to be university of medicine and theology.


Where is the location of the University?

You can see the people that are working in the ministry from America, United Kingdom, Nigeria, France – so it can be anywhere. It will be a special grace to be in Nigeria.

If God can use you to do this huge project and your country is falling apart, what do you have to say to that?
A prophet has no honour in his own country. The President of South Sudan sent me a letter.

Many pastors want to be Professor, Doctor, Archbishop and all that, why have you remained just a prophet?

Let me tell you that a university has given me PhD but I don’t want to use it. I have OFR in Nigeria, which was given to me by the late President Yar Adua. I didn’t go but I sent my wife. So, if I now begin to use all that, then, what I am saying is that I am not pleased with what God has given me. God has given me so much, so why should I continue to flaunt it around? I should be happy and content. It is not what you are doing but how long it lasts. Many of our rich pastors – millionaires – their legacy is gone. So, it is not what you are doing now but how it is going to last. Lasting promotion comes from God and that is why we call Him everlasting Father.

You restored peace in some countries, and you have gone to help restore hope in some countries. But hope in this country is fading away; why have you not waded in?

God’s time is the best but I want to assure you that – although there is so many issues of disunity, people want to go, this section wants to leave – nothing will happen. We will continue to be Nigeria. God just wants us to learn certain experiences. Experience is the best teacher. Do you know what we have done so far – we are more of an enemy of God than a friend of God in the past. So, I think what we are going through is a lesson and it will soon be over. And I pray that we will live to see it when it is over. So, there is nothing to be afraid of.

You have all of these and you don’t want to intervene in the situation of the larger society, which is Nigeria?

Let me say this – if you have headache and you are not asking me to pray for you, will I now force myself to pray for you? I gave a prophecy on Nigeria that we will drink our oil. I said, ‘This oil you are seeing now – we will drink it’.

Primate Elijah Ayodele, leader of INRI Evangelical spiritual church, has accused top Nigerian pastors of causing problems in Christendom in Nigeria.

According to Ayodele, there is hatred, and envy among church leaders in Nigeria which was started by Pastor Enoch Adeboye of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, RCCG, Bishop David Oyedepo of Living Faith and Pastor Williams Kumuyi of Deeper Life Ministry.

The cleric said this on Saturday while reacting to the absence of some top ministers of God during the burial of Prophet Temitope Balogun Joshua, T.B Joshua of Synagogue Church of All Nations, SCOAN.

Most of the Nigerian top pastors shunned SCOAN during the burial.

Joshua died on 5 June 2021.

However, Ayodele said in Nigerian Christendom, many will ask of the association you belong before they associate with you, adding that it was not in the Holy Bible to have a foundation.

“When you talk about Christendom, people ask who am I, when did I start, which Christian society do I belong to, is it PFN or not? Me I don’t belong anywhere, I do not have any father in the lord, I was not trained by anybody. I’m just doing things as the Lord directs me, so I stand alone.

“So if you want to get closer to some people they would say we don’t know you, you don’t have a foundation. I have not seen in the Bible where Jesus Christ or other prophets went for training; so I don’t understand why people keep asking where others belong to in Christendom.

“The senior pastors don’t want the junior ones to grow. There is envy, hatred in Christianity among church leaders. And this started from Adeboye, Oyedepo, Kumuyi and the likes are the ones that caused problem in Christendom.

“All the CAN leaders are just there for their pockets, they are doing nothing. Who is CAN President, Oritsejiafor lost it during his time, same as Cardinal Okojie, Ayokunle is directionless; he has nothing to offer Christianity.

“Go and ask, there are problems that needed their attention but Ayokunle would not be there. You will only see him when it is time to raise money.

“We need people filled with the Holy Spirit to lead not those who have monetised Christianity,” he said.

TB Joshua Reveals The Two Christs In The Church

Prophet T.B. Joshua has issued a stinging rebuke to the Church in an impassioned sermon, which has attracted over 70,000 views on YouTube in under one week.

“There has been a great mix-up in the Church,” Joshua stated in the message he preached on Sunday 30th September 2018. “It is the erroneous assumption that spiritual truths can be intellectual perceived,”he continued, stressing that being brought up in a Church background does not equate to ‘knowing Jesus’.

“Many people know about Christ but they don’t know Christ,” he added. “You can read your New Testament and still never find Jesus in it. You can be convinced that Jesus is the Son of God and still never find Jesus. You can be a publisher of the Bible. You can know about Christ dying for you. You can head this or that religious organisation.

You can be the Founder and General Overseer and still never know Jesus of Nazareth in the power of the Holy Ghost.”
According to the cleric, there are “two Christs”in the Church – “the Christ of story and of history and song – the baby Jesus”and “Christ which the Holy Spirit reveals”.

He went further to emphatically emphasise that “if you are reasoned into Christianity, some wise fellow can reason you out of it – unless you know the Holy Spirit… It is either the Holy Spirit or darkness.”

Joshua called congregants to a period of sober reflection about whether they were really Christians or merely “religious people”. “If today is your last day, where are you going,”he sombrely asked.

“If you are serving God without the Holy Spirit, you are serving a god you do not know,” he concluded, adding that this was the “greatest problem”faced by the Church today.

The message, which was titled ‘Knowing Jesus, Knowing The Holy Spirit,’ sparked reactions online from viewers of Joshua’s YouTube channel Emmanuel TV, which is nearing a whopping 1,000,000 subscribers.

Popular social media influencer and radio broadcaster Daddy Freeze has reacted to the absenteeism of top Nigerian Pastors at the funeral ceremony of late T. B. Joshua, who was the senior pastor and the founder of the Synagogue Church of All Nations (SCOAN).

Recall that the televangelist who passed away on 6th June was finally laid to rest on Friday 9th at his church in Ikotun Egbe, Lagos.

At the laying to rest of the late clergyman, many dignitaries, home and abroad were seen present at the funeral ceremony to pay their last respect to the one many referred to as a great philanthropist and kind-hearted man of God.

Daddy Freeze, who, like some other Nigerians on social media noticed the absence of some top pastors or founders, expressed his disappointment in the development, as he believes that the single display of such action at that moment showed there's lack of true love among some Christians.

Talking of how the relationship of Christians nowadays, should be among themselves, Daddy Freeze, who also said he was disappointed at how pastors could not even commensurate with the family of the late T. B Joshua said that as true Christians, every church should have at least sent a delegate to the funeral service, even if they wouldn't be attending.

•Why we oppose call for Southern president —North

A pan-Fulani group, the Gan Allah Fulani Development Association (GAFDAN), and Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore have cautioned Southern governors against banning open grazing in September and employing what they called intimidation tactics in their bid to get power to return to the South in 2023.

The Southern governors had come out with some serious resolutions at a meeting held in Lagos on Monday. The resolutions include the September 1 deadline to end open grazing in the southern part of the country and the rotation of presidency to the South in 2023. The Fulani groups described the open grazing deadline handed down by the Southern governors as a call for anarchy and a factor capable of frustrating the prospect of the south producing the next president.

In a reaction to the position of the Southern governors, the National Secretary of GAFDAN, Alhaji Ibrahim Abdullahi, told Saturday Tribune in an interview that the Southern Governors Forum failed to consider the implications of what he called its spur of-the-moment decision on open grazing.

Alhaji Abdullahi said: “You don’t just play politics. Some people want power to return to their region and they believe that the only way to go about it is to intimidate others. You want power to return to the South and you are driving people, about 17 million voters (Fulani), away. This step will definitely jeopardise the chances of the South to produce the next president come 2023.”

He added: “The position of the forum is very unfortunate because you don’t stop a system unless you have provided an alternative to it. We are not against any new method of animal husbandry because we believe that the present system is outdated but then you don’t stop it overnight without providing alternative. So, the position of the governors is practically impossible under the present setup in Nigeria.

“The statement of the governors is more political than realistic. It is unfortunate that people can play politics with the livelihood of millions of Nigerians. If you stop open grazing in the South, you are simply saying that those people should move to the North or they should move to other parts of the country. What happens if those in the North also ask the Southerners to leave?

“Are we promoting unity or hatred? What the governors are saying is practically impossible and it does not promote the unity of this country.”

He stated that Benue State had not experienced peace since the government there banned open grazing, a decision which, he said, led to the displacement of the entire Fulani cattle herders.

He warned that peace would “definitely elude” any state that takes such a decision.

“You don’t stop people’s means of living and expect peace to reign. So, the implication is that the unity of Nigeria is going to be in question. You don’t expect those that will be affected to return to the North and live in peace with people from the South living in the North. It is double standard.

“It is a call for anarchy. If the governors had provided alternative and set aside an area to practise ranching, it would have been better. The present situation does not favour herders themselves and then for you to start a thing without providing alternative is wrong. This is a call for anarchy,” he noted.

The GAFDAN National Secretary claimed that genuine herders doing legitimate business also abhorred any act of criminality which was why the association formed a unit christened ‘Fulani Intelligence Squad’.

He said the squad had since been working with security agencies to fish out bad eggs within their ranks and make them to face the wrath of the law. To arrest violence and killings, Alhaji Abdullahi urged the federal and state governments to resuscitate the over 400 abandoned grazing reserves in the country, particularly in the North, gazette and develop them to eliminate conflicts between pastoralists and farmers over grazing lands.

He equally charged different cattle breeders and farmer associations in the country to embark on sensitisation of their members on the need for peaceful co-existence and to accommodate their differences and realise that those who tend to cow must be of age.

He said: “The southern governors need to reconsider their position. It is not possible and it is not feasible. If you frustrate their business and force them to flee back to the North then expect the same treatment from the North also. I think this is not helpful for the unity of this country. I would rather advise them to embrace dialogue.”

Alhaji Abdullahi urged the governors to sit down with critical stakeholders and devise a means to flush out the bad eggs and their collaborators.

“There is the need for dialogue. We also need to engage one another to arrive at an amicable middle ground. It is wrong to enact a law without consulting those concerned. If it is well intended, I think it should be discussed,” he said.

Miyetti Allah blows hot

The National Secretary of Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore, Saleh Alhassan, in his own case, said that Southern governors were only playing politics with their resolution to end open grazing in their territories by September 1. Speaking to Saturday Tribune during the week, Alhassan said the Southern governors should not blackmail the North to get the presidency.

But Alhassan described the Southern governors of being hungry for power in 2023 and submitted that the Fulani herdsmen have nowhere to go because the governors had not made any alternative provision for them.

He said: “They (the Southern governors) are hungry for power. Why are they making open grazing an issue? Is it the only problem in the country? They may not even get the power.” Alhassan said herdsmen could not leave because the Southern governors did not make any alternative arrangements before slamming a deadline on open grazing.

“Fulani herdsmen cannot move to anywhere. The Southern governors have not made any alternative (provision) for them. You cannot just drive away an economic group,” Alhassan said.

He stated that the outcome of the Southern governors’ meeting might be to heat up the polity, saying, “It is like they had some feelers.”

Alhassan said herders were not concerned about where presidency is zoned to in 2023 but warned the Southern governors against blackmailing the North to get the presidency, saying that such might be counterproductive.

“For herders, it doesn’t matter where the president comes from but if they want power to move to the South, should it be through blackmail? It should be by negotiation, campaign and strategy as well as political understanding. And mind you, this thing is based on numerical strength.

“If they (Southern governors) want to blackmail the North, they may not get the presidency. They are only hungry for power with the direction they are going,” he said.

He advised those interested in vying for the presidency to start building their campaign structures instead of resorting to blackmail.

He said: “Let them begin to build structures, come out and campaign. “Is there any serious Igbo man that wants to be president? Have you seen any? It is not that people will just carry power and give you, you must work for it by building structures.

“So, if Tinubu wins the APC primary tomorrow, it is because he has built the structure and we will vote for him. Is he not a Southerner?”

Why we oppose call for Southern president –Northern Elders Forum

Also, the Northern Elders Forum (NEF) said the next president could emerge from any part of the country insofar as the person is truly devoted to one Nigeria and places the country’s interest above all other interests.

The spokesman of the forum, Hakeem Baba Ahmed, stated this on Friday morning during an interview programme on Arise TV. Baba Ahmed, in a reaction to the Southern governors’ position on 2023 presidency, said it was out of place for the governors to make such “dangerous comments,” noting that the North Central has never produced a president.

He, however, urged Nigerians to resolve to produce leaders that are different from the current crop of leaders who he said had mismanaged the country.

The NEF spokesman said: “Our position is that the next president must be a Nigerian president, someone who would do the opposite of what [President Muhammadu] Buhari is doing – dividing the country and alienating a vast number of people.

“What if the next president is elected from the North? What then happens? The North has the figure.

“In 2023, Nigeria must produce leaders who are very different from the current crop who have run the country aground.”

Zoning unconstitutional –Bello

Similarly, the Kogi State governor, Yahaya Bello, described zoning of the presidency as undemocratic and not in conformity with the Nigerian constitution or that of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Governor Bello stated this on Friday at the first annual ‘GYB Seminar for Nigeria’s Political and Crime Correspondents’ held at the Transcorp Hilton, Abuja. He urged Nigerians to be concerned with having leaders with the capacity to solve the nation’s challenges.

The governor noted that zoning of political offices had not solved the country’s problems, saying rotation of the presidency is not the best practice as, according to him, it prevents the best candidates from emerging and disallows people from making free choices. He said Nigerians should be allowed to freely choose their president in 2023, describing rotation and zoning as undemocratic and unconstitutional.

He added that since the return of democracy in 1999, the North Central and the South East had never had the opportunity of producing the president or vice president.
