Politics › The Country Of Blind People by KEVIND(op): 1:16pm On Oct 27, 2019
"THE COUNTRY OF BLIND PEOPLE"
I have been keeping quiet about border closure because it is obviously clear that this country is a blind country.
If you close your border because of smuggling of goods without carefully address what is making your people go into the smuggling, if you open your border in 20yrs time, smuggling will continue.
A bag of rice that travelled all the way from Malaysia, Thailand, China, Nederland, etc to Nigeria, spent months or years to reach Nigeria and when it reach here, the price is about #27K even with the border closure and smuggling.
But Nigeria rice that went through nothing, no shipment, no tariff charges on the road, no cross border payment, no nothing and it being sold at
#23K .
Are we normal in this country?
A friend in America said, a bag of rice in America is between 2 to 3 dollar, let's assumed a dollar now is #350, please let's calculate 3*350.
That is #1050.
America rice left their country at the rate of #1050 despite our useless and valueless currency
, this means, Nigeria rice shouldn't cost above #1500.
If Nigeria rice per bag is #1500, who will buy imported rice of #27K and who will go into smuggling?
But in a blind country.... The citizens are always clapping for every failure of their leaders because they are blind.
I used to steal soup, meat and food from my mom's pot because these foods weren't enough to be distributed to all of us, which were seven in numbers in the 80s.
People steal and smuggling what is not enough, a country that claimed in their national poem and also claim that their national flag GREEN WHITE GREEN Green symbolize AGRICULTURE have no reasons for smuggling of food if they have leaders who are not confuse and incompetent.
Any country where the leaders can speak and read without brain and the citizens are very terribly blind...... That country will never move forward.

Politics › Tafawa Balewa Knew There Was Oil In North But Didn’t Explore –Amb. Yerima Abdul by KEVIND(op): 8:50am On Oct 26, 2019
A former Minister of Education , Science and Technology , Amb . Yerima Abdullahi , has said the first Prime Minister of Nigeria , Abubakar Tafawa Balewa ( 1912 -1966 ) , knew about the deposits of oil in the North but didn ’t explore it.
Abdullahi said Balewa ’s intention was to allow the younger generations to explore the oil .
He said the discovery of oil in the North , particularly the recent one in the Gondola Basin , had shamed those who tag the region as a parasite on Nigeria .

The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation recently announced the discovery of hydrocarbon deposits in the Kolmani River II Well on the Upper Benue Trough , Gongola Basin , in the North - Eastern part of the country .
Based on this discovery , Abdullahi said those describing the North as a parasite on others have to eat their words.
He said , “The future is now . Fortunately , the oil was found in Bauchi, which is our home. We expect many other mineral resources such as gold and copper to be discovered , and not just oil , in the North.

“Oil and gas existed before we were born . Even our elders , including the Tafawa Balewa government , knew but decided not to make so much noise about it, but to leave it for the younger generations .”
Abdullahi did not state if the latest discovery would spark self -determination as pursued by other regions but said the North had never denied any part of the country the right to control their resources.
“We are glad that oil has been found in the North and it will add to Nigeria ’s wealth because we believe in the unity of the country . We don’t begrudge any part of the country or Nigerians from partaking in the wealth God has given us , ” he added .

Meanwhile , Gombe State Governor Inuwa Yahaya, through his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity , Ismaila Misilli , has welcomed the discovery of hydrocarbon deposits in the Kolmani River II Well on the Upper Benue Trough of the Gongola Basin .
He said , “The development will change the economic fortune of the state and the North -East geopolitical zone , stimulate job creation and ultimately lead to job creation and wealth for the people.

“The North is not bothered about resource control. An average Northerner believes everything in the country belongs to the whole country . That is why you see us ( Northerners ) accommodating people coming from far and near. This ( oil discovery ) will not change our mindset.”

Politics › Borders In The North Still Operating- Gani Adams by KEVIND(op): 6:00pm On Oct 24, 2019
Aare Onakakanfo of Yorubaland, Iba Gani Abiodun Ige Adams, has urged the Federal government to fix the Lagos – Badagry road, saying such move will boost the Nigerian economy and further expose the tourism potentials of Badagry as a whole.

Speaking during the 2019 edition of the Olokun Festival in Badagry, Adams expressed worry over the closure of the Nigeria – Benin border, insisting that the closure of the border was suspicious, with huge implications on the entire Southwest.

“The road leading to Badagry town and its environs are in deplorable stage and nobody even cares. For the past seven years, this town had been abandoned with little facilities I have said it severally that this road is bad.

The road has become death traps for commuters plying the road daily. For instance, traveling between Badagry and Mile 2 has always been an unpleasant experience these days.

Imagine the kind of impression this would have on foreigners and tourists coming through west African coast to Badagry”,he said.

The Yoruba leader, also lamented that the closure of the border will definitely affect the people in the South than any other regions.

“It is unfortunate that the Nigeria – Benin border had to be shut, however, the closure seems suspicious to me because the borders in the North still operate conveniently without anybody blinking an eye. This portends grave danger to us as a people because the economic implications of the border closure will largely affect us more in the southwest than any other regions.

He, however, urged the Federal government, to as a matter of urgency, re-open the border and make sure that the necessary arrangements are made to forestall illegal smuggling of rice and other valuables into the country.

” We can reduce the unlawful smuggling of rice and other items into the country. It involves proper planning and documentation from the Nigerian government and the officials, including the Immigrations and the Customs must be up and doing in ensuring that the law is effective.”
Iba Gani Adams also appealed to the southwest governors to join him in projecting the cultural identity of the Yoruba race to the world

His words, :” Through cultural festivals such as this, we can gradually begin to change the narratives. We can begin to project the image of our country positively to the world. Therefore, I am making a clarion call to all Yoruba sons and daughters to continually promote the policy thrust and development agenda of the OFF
“Together we must build our tourism potentials and provide opportunities for our people to explore the world, using cultural tourism as template for growth and development. It is also very important for all the governors in all the states in the southwest to invest in education and agriculture, in order to ensure quality education and food security.

“Our governors should also provide enabling environment for the creation of a bustling tourism sector that would see the southwest states becoming the nation’s destination of choice, and ensure the full exploitations of our mineral resources for wealth creation.”,he explained.

Akran of Badagry, Oba De-Wheno Aholu (OFR), in his remarks, said despite the fact that the Badagry has a rich history, both the state and the Federal government have abandoned the town with no formidable facilities, lamenting that the road leading to the town had been left unattended to.

“Our road is bad. And I am not happy with the situation of the road. Coming to Badagry now is a hell, because people spend hours before getting to this place. As the royal father of this town, I am using this opportunity to appeal to the government to help fix this road so that Nigerians and other tourists could have access to Badagry”

“Let me also appreciate Iba Gani Abiodun Ige Adams, and all members of the Oodua Peoples Congress(OPC) and the Olokun Festival Foundation for sustaining this festival for the past 18 years. They have done well for us as a race. And I think they deserve to be honoured and appreciated”,he said.

Meanwhile, the Guest lecturer, Professor Oladele Orimogunje, from the Department of Linguistic, University of Lagos, praised the efforts of the Aare Onakakanfo of Yorubaland and the chief promoter of the festivals, Iba Gani Adams for championing the cause, and promoting the Yoruba culture and tradition, adding that such effort will definitely enrich the minds of the young generation of people about the various beliefs and traditions of the Yoruba race.

He said there should be adequate provision of social services like basic education and healthcare to Nigerians, stressing that Nigeria must embrace the idea of a knowledge economy, where quality education is cheap and affordable to all and sundry.

“What we needed most at this moment is a knowledge economy, where quality education is cheap and affordable to all and sundry. A situation whereby a large number of our youths are unemployed and a few of them that are working are doing so under a very precarious condition is bad”

“Our leaders must be proactive in the way they handle sensitive business of governance, because unless the ruling class commits public resources to public need, the future of the Nigerian youths is bleak” he said.

Prominent guests present at the event, include the Jagun of Oyo,Chief Ayoade Adewuyi, Parakoyi Aareonakakanfo of Yorubaland,Prof Raheem Kolawole,Osi Aareonakakanfo of Yorubaland Chief Gani Kayode Balogun,Africa Union coordinator of the Oodua Progressive Union (OPU) Mr Segun Ogunpitan,Fiwagboye of Aare Onakakanfo of Yorubaland, Chief Ebudola Odedina, Oba Abdul Wahab Adio Ogunji, Papayiketa from Benin Republic, Oba Abdul Lateef Olagoke, the Onilala of Lanlate land. Education › Emerging Ethnic Crisis In Nigerian Universities by KEVIND(op): 11:50am On Oct 22, 2019
Universities by their evolution, philosophy, essence, and character, are universal institutions established to provide solutions to problems that confront humanity. And so the brightest and the best in learning and character are always called upon to run such citadels of learning where primordial sentiments such as ethnicity and religion should not rear their ugly heads.

That is it is unfortunate that ethnicity, which has been a threat to our national cohesion is also becoming manifest in Nigerian universities. Specifically, this enemy called ethnicity is being curiously weaponised on appointments and even on influencing election outcomes into elective positions in the ivory towers. This is sad.

The implication is that merit is sacrificed on the altar of mediocrity and ethnic antagonism is being heightened! Also, as competency and meritocracy take the back seat, candidates from ethnic minorities hardly assume positions of leadership in today’s universities.

So, instead of being a place to use the best brains for our national development, our tertiary institutions are becoming battlegrounds for ethnic jingoism, to the extent that the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) had to warn the other day against the ethnic crisis in Nigeria varsities. This is another sad commentary on the state of higher education in the country.

Without prejudice to a few cases, where an insignificant number of exposed scholars are fighting ethnicity; positions, disciplinary actions, and activities in Nigerian universities are often ‘shaped’ too by the audacity of ethnicity. As such, ASUU’s warning should not be discounted; rather it should be taken seriously to form a compass for policies on university governance – to avoid enthroning mediocrity in our universities. So, how did we get to this point?

With the creation of more universities, academics went back to their enclaves; and scholars started crossing from universities and moving to the ones in their states of origin to become professors and even vice-chancellors.

In addition, the establishment of state universities further worsened the already bad situation as state chief executives who are visitors to such institutions oftentimes pick indigenes to head the institutions as part of dividends of democracy. The act later escalated to federal universities, as the same governors started pressuring the Federal Government, rooting for indigenes from where the university is located, to be appointed as vice-chancellors. Hence, what commonly rends the air during appointments of university administrators is: ‘‘it is the turn of our own son or daughter to be appointed as vice chancellor.’’ This is contrary to what obtained in the 1960s and 1970s when very competent people were appointed as vice chancellors (VCs) by the government. For instance, the first vice-chancellor of the University of Lagos (UNILAG) was Prof. Eni Njoku (1962-65). He was not a Yoruba man. We had Prof B. Kwaku Adadevoh (1978-80), another non-Yoruba.

In the same vein, the first Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ibadan was Professor Kenneth Dike, from the then Eastern region. The first indigenous vice chancellor of the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Professor Ishaya Audu who took over from the pioneer (expatriate) vice chancellor, Professor Norman Alexander, was a Christian. No Christian even from the North can aspire to be Vice-Chancellor of A.B.U, Zaria anymore; whereas, Professor Oladipo Akinkugbe, from Ondo State was vice-chancellor of the same university (1978-1979).

In the same vein, Professor Adamu Baikie, a Christian who hails from Kano was vice-chancellor, University of Benin. Professor Cyril Agodi Onwumechili, who was made at the University of Ibadan, was at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, (UNN) when he was appointed the vice-chancellor University of Ife (now OAU) in 1979.

Again in faculties, people in leadership positions and senior faculty members commonly referred to as ‘‘elders’’ who can best be described as ‘‘Council of Sanhedrins,’’ are worsening the situation by placing ethnicity above competence, skills, and experience in appointments and choice of candidates to occupy elective and appointive positions. Commonly, when elective positions are vacant, they meet and decide on a candidate, ‘‘anoint’’ and endorse the candidate; and such candidates and their campaign team come up with campaign messages such as ‘‘…endorsed by the elders.’’ Furthermore, such elders warn their kinsmen to vote ‘‘their own’ not ‘outsider’. Essentially, some elections into positions of leadership in Nigerian universities are merely a selection. Therefore, competent and skilled eligible candidates do not contest for elective positions, because competence is no longer a major consideration. This trend has politicised the psyche of academics, with the resultant poor individual and system performance; which may be a major contributor to the decay and deterioration of educational institutions. Besides, it sometimes results in the cold war and or intense office battles with intrigues, schisms, mischiefs, trap setting, deaths, character and life assassinations, and kindred misfortunes in an academic environment. Ethnically conscious heads of departments and deans are hailed by their kinsmen; whereas detribalised heads, deans and directors are condemned by their kinsmen.

Similarly, when favoured staff members commit offences, they are usually given ‘‘soft landing.’’ In addition, appointments as directors and unit heads, reflect ethnic and religious colouration; not discounting favouring the ‘‘home’’ faculties of those who are in positions to appoint. Hence, the winner takes it all.

Also, university managements and councils do not reflect national character. Essentially, ethnicity has taken over. As this newspaper noted the other day, “over the years, the appointment of varsity administrator has been based on political and ethnic reasons, rather than credibility and competence. And most times, the council and parties involved ended up sacrificing merit and promoting mediocrity through their style of selection.”

Therefore, if universities aid and abet ethnicity, then where is the future of the country? Sacrificing quality for ethnic interests is merely destroying the universities. According to ASUU, “allowing a tribal crisis to determine the appointment of the top management staff of universities in Nigeria would destroy the country’s citadel of learning”. Again, critics have argued that this not just a form of corruption, but it deepens corruption in the system as such inept staff helps their ‘‘godfathers’’ to cover their tracks. Also, it is promoting nepotistic appointments and hiring.

So, ethnicity is tearing down at all levels of governance in the universities. This unfortunate development is unhealthy and is fast destroying the system. If it is not addressed urgently, the country will suffer for it because if intellectuals cannot come out of ethic cocoons, the nation is doomed.

What is worse, to divert the attention of Nigerians to the issue of ethnicity in the universities, management of some universities has resorted to tokenism in appointments. However, this will not solve the problem.

To make Nigeria great, in this time and age, when issues of competence and credibility are critical for achieving superior performance indicators, intellectuals should come out of ethnic coat because countries that make progress push the frontiers of excellence and are driven by the culture of excellence, not ethnicity, religion or states of origin.

Although, the sentiment is the undercurrent, which runs through our lives when the chips are down and unavoidable in social settings, the ivory tower should show the light for people to find the way. And such an effort should promote meritocracy, be the mark of a good society because a university is an institution that entails untrammeled academic freedom. It is guided by values of equity, fairness, justice, humanism, credibility, and integrity. Hence, it should be shielded from ethnic and parochial interests.

Therefore, the Federal Ministry of Education should come up with a policy of inclusion in university governance, as a university should be universal. The policy should ensure that appointments into key academic and administrative positions must be based totally on merit, without bias or discrimination based on ethnicity, gender, social status, and religious affiliations. Furthermore, the National Universities Commission (NUC) should include diversity inclusion indices, subject to merit, within the instruments for institutional accreditation and consider this in its ranking for our universities.

Above all, even as ASUU deserves a pat on the back for drawing attention to this blight, it should go beyond identifying the problem and come up with solutions and ensure that mediocrity is defeated in our universities. Besides, education-focused non-governmental organisations should advocate inclusivity in university governance, which is a way of promoting national unity. That is why the current administration should be broadminded enough to see this national-question challenge in our tertiary institutions as another opportunity to restructure our decadent higher education sector.

What is happening to the Niger bridge is what is also happening to the Ogoni clean-up & the East West road etc. But when it concerns taking oil from the Niger delta by the parasitic regions, they will deploy all the military apparatus & might to destroy any uprising or dissenting voice. e.g Ken saro wiwa.

Christianity Etc › India Supports Orphanage Named After Tb Joshua In South Sudan by KEVIND(op): 8:54am On Oct 19, 2019
The Indian Ambassador to South Sudan, S.D Moorthy, has donated to an orphanage school in Juba named in honour of Nigerian Pastor T.B. Joshua.
According to a report in Juba Monitor , Moorthy provided scholastic materials and foodstuff to help over 300 orphaned children at ‘TB Joshua Primary Orphanage School’ in Juba, the South Sudanese capital city.
“It is time for you to embark on learning and studying for your bright future because peace is going to be restored in this country,” Moorthy told the budding students.
“Respect your teachers and guardians, so that God will help you and the Indian community in South Sudan would continue to help you,” he advised as gifts such as text books, mosquito nets and bags of maize flour were provided.
“India as a country is ready to help this learning centre by constructing accommodation and classrooms because South Sudanese children are bright in class and need better services in order for them to learn well,” he equally asserted.
The Executive Director of the 'Legacy for African Women and Children Initiative', Rose Acindhel Kacthiek appreciated the embassy for their donation, describing it as “love without borders”.
“We are really appreciating the Embassy of India for their support and hope this continues so that God will bless these children and the embassy because we are doing this for the bright future of our children,” she said.
Jacob Majok, the Head Teacher of TB Joshua Primary Orphanage School, equally thanked the Asian nation.
“We are very thankful to Ambassador Moorthy for the support and he will not be forgotten by these children because he brought us very important things,” said Majok.
Although there is no evidence of TB Joshua’s direct involvement in the orphanage affairs, the institution was named after the prominent cleric who is known for his humanitarian endeavours and provision of scholarships to less-privileged students.

The Chairman, Senate Committee on Army, Senator Ali Ndume, said on Tuesday that 840 Nigerian soldiers killed by the Boko Haram terrorists from 2013 till date were buried in the Military cemetery located in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital.

He said the figure did not include other soldiers killed by the insurgents and buried in other military cemeteries located in other parts of the North-East geopolitical zone.

Ndume, who stated this while briefing journalists in Abuja on the findings by his colleagues who recently returned from Maiduguri, however, denied reports of mass burial of soldiers killed by the terrorists.

He also said the Senate panel was already investigating allegations that some non-governmental agencies operating in the North-East, were providing useful information to the Boko Haram leaders.

Politics › Nigeria Is Africa’s Troubled Giant, Says former US Ambassador by KEVIND(op): 4:36pm On Oct 15, 2019
A former US Ambassador to Nigeria , Mr John Campbell , has said though Nigeria possesses extraordinary potential , it is the truly troubled giant of Africa .
Campbell stated this in a new book he co - authored which was presented to the public on Thursday in Lagos at the US Consul General ’s residence.
He also saluted the entrepreneurial spirit of Nigerians in the book titled , “Nigeria : What Everyone Needs to Know ”
Campbell stated in the book that virtually every major university in the English- speaking world hosted Nigerian academics with the country ’s medical personnel found in hospitals all over the United States and elsewhere .
He said , “ Though it possesses extraordinary potential , Nigeria is truly the troubled giant of Africa . And Nigeria exports Christian clergy to the United Kingdom and the United States . Nigerians living outside of Nigeria have been notably successful in business and finance , and they are known for their entrepreneurial spirit. ’’
In the book , Campbell and Matthew T . Page , Associate Fellow in Chatham House ’s Africa Programme , described Nigeria as a nation characterised by a type of corruption in which government or public officials seek personal gain at the expense of the led .
They stated , “Kleptocracy and government dishonesty have corrosive effects on popular confidence in governance . Official and unofficial corruption undermine the democratic trajectory and risks overwhelming it. It is among the most important hindrances to the country ’s economic and social development .
“Despite ubiquitous cell phone use and other signs of modernity , the country is one of the poorest in the world . By indices ranging from levels of female literacy to average lifespan , Nigeria scores among the lowest in the world . The country ’s population has grown explosively without the economic and infrastructure development necessary to support it. ’’

Christianity Etc › Adeboye Hits FG On Border Closure, VAT Increase, Others by KEVIND(op): 11:12am On Oct 13, 2019
General Overseer of The Redeemed Christian Church of God, (RCCG) Pastor Enoch Adeboye has kicked against the proposed increase of VAT from 5 percent to 7.5 percent by the federal government.
The proposal, he said, will further increase the burdens on Nigerians.
Adeboye also said the proposed reintroduction of toll gates on federal government was insensitive.
The plan, he said, shouldn’t be considered at a time most federal roads were in pitiable conditions.
The federal government, as far as Adeboye is concerned, should refocus its plans and programmes toward initiatives that would lessen the suffering and burdens of Nigerians.
He spoke last Sunday at the Special Independence Day Celebration of the church at its headquarters, RCCG, Throne of Grace, Ebute-Metta, Lagos.
The programme tagged Arise attracted worshippers and traditional rulers led by the Alake and Paramount ruler of Egbaland, His royal highness, Oba Adedotun Gbadebo.
He further pointed out the closure of borders to importation of rice was ill-conceived because it has made the stable unavailable to most Nigerians.
Adeboye said as the country celebrates at 59, the federal government should henceforth focus on initiating policies that would lessen the sufferings and burdens of Nigerians.
Such policies, he said, should have the capability to move the country out of doldrums, make her arise and pitch her tent with comity of nations.
Speaking through the Assistant General Overseer, Administration and Personnel, Pastor Johnson Odesola, Adeboye emphasised a lot of policies of government are not helping Nigerians.
He lamented many Nigerians were suffering when the wealth of their nation are just in few hands who have refused to let go.
The respected preacher also criticised how banks are fixing interest rate, which he described as one of the highest in the world, saying the development was making business environment unfavourable for Nigerians.
He bemoaned the condition of commoners, saying it was insensitive for the federal government to consider bringing back toll gates when the roads were in bad conditions.
Oba Gbadebo appreciated God for the independence celebration, saying that God has helped us a lot as Nigeria has remained one the federation that has remain strong and indivisible since independence in 1960.
He appealed to Nigeria leaders to consolidate on the success and achievements made so far in Nigeria by working for the interest of the people rather than their personal interest and gain.
He restated that leaders in position of authority are put there by God and will one day give account of their stewardship to him.

Politics › IMF Says Nigerian Govt May Put Its Central Bank In Trouble by KEVIND(op): 11:59am On Oct 10, 2019
Going by the conclusion of an International Monetary Fund (IMF) team led by Amine Mati, Senior Resident Representative and Mission Chief for Nigeria, the apex bank,
Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) may be in trouble.
The team whose report is coming on the heels of the 2020 budget proposal presentation by President Muhammadu Buhari, suggested that “over-optimistic revenue projections – leading to higher financing needs than initially envisaged – resulted to overreliance on expensive borrowing from the CBN to finance the fiscal deficit.
“The current account’s shift to a deficit is expected to persist while the pace of capital outflows continues to weigh on international reserves.”

This was further reinforced by Bloomberg’s analysis of Nigeria’s projected and actual income between 2015 to 2018. The analysis confirmed that Nigeria has been unable to meet its income target. The government was only able to collect 58% of 2019 revenue as at June. This was due to shortfalls in both oil and non-oil earnings with the government takings from crude sales 49% below target.

In 2016, Nigerian Government projected revenue to be N3.86 trillion but actual revenue was N3.19 trillion and ever since then, the margin has grown wider. 2017 projected revenue was N5.08 trillion but only generated 2.78 trillion; 2018 expected income was N7.17 trillion but actual income was N3.96 trillion.

IMF expressed concern about the current policies, but was optimistic about growth in the oil and agricultural sectors.
“The outlook under current policies remains challenging. Growth is expected to pick up to 2.3 percent this year on the strength of a continuing recovery in the oil sector and the regaining of momentum in agriculture following a good harvest.”

Politics › There'll Be Another Civil War If Nigeria Breaks Up With Biafra –Emir Of Argungu by KEVIND(op): 7:28pm On Oct 09, 2019
Alhaji Samaila Muhammed Mera, the Emir of Argungu, has warned that Nigeria risks another devastating civil war if the calls for the country’s break up are not halted.

The first class monarch and foremost traditional ruler said the nation is better off as one entity.

The monarch pointed out that if Nigeria was separated today, each of these ethnic groups would start rising against each other, waging supremacy war and this would lead to another civil war.

He said, “I am not a constitutional lawyer or politician. Whatever restructuring would take place in this country, my sincere advice is that we are better off to remain one Nigeria than divided into pieces,” he was quoted by Sun.

“I keep on telling my friends in the South-East, South-South regions of Nigeria that it will be a sad day for me whenever any one of them would have to collect visa before they could visit me. There is strength in number, unity.

“We are over 150 million now in term of our population and there was a forecast that before end of this century, Nigeria’s population would exceed 300 million making us the most populous nation behind China and Indian.

“If you look around the world today, the most successful nations are those with highest population. Like I said, our problem is that we are not patient with our leaders.

“Just imagine, if Igbo break away, how many land space do they have? The same thing with Yoruba, the same thing with us in the Northern region.

“Every part of this country has something to offer to other regions. We are better the way we are now. Whatever our grievances are, let us embrace dialogue and address our differences.

“Whenever I hear our people are agitating for Biafra here, another region calling for break up, I feel sad.

“We must not forget what happened to Albania, Yugoslavia, and others when they separated into seven nations.

“Their country was the most vibrant nation in Europe in term of economy. But today, they are small nations with inadequate resources to cater for their citizens.

“This should be a big lesson to us. If we break up, all of us would suffer for it, because we have many ethnic groups and tribes across the country.

“If we were separated today, each of these ethnic groups would start rising against each other, waging supremacy war.

“May God forbid, that would be the beginning of civil war. Instead, we should continue to pray for our leaders, unite for the country’s survival and development.

“We need to fully tap our potential. We were made to understand that Zamfara state is the richest state in Nigeria in term of gold deposits.

“Have we fully utilized this potential? Also Kebbi state is blessed with gold and other mineral resources.

“In fact, each state across Nigeria has two or more natural resources that could change the economy of this country for better. We were also told that there are large deposits of gas in the Northeast.

“Let us bring all these potentials out, utilise them and I am optimistic that all these threats of breaking away, restructuring and others would be history in our country.”

Buhari's Nepotism on Steroids!
By Farooq Kperogi
The Personal Chief Security Officer (PCSO) to Buhari by the name of Abdulkarim Dauda was supposed to retire this year, but his service has been ilegally extended till 2023, as this secret memo shows.
Note that he is Buhari's biological relative. He is Mamman Daura's nephew. In other words, he is the son of Mamman Daura's brother. Recall that Mamman Daura's father, called Dauda Daura, is Buhari's half-brother from the same father. (Mamman Daura is Nigeria's de facto president for whom Abba Kyari acts.)
Abdulkarim Dauda has had one of the fastest promotions in the history of the Nigeria Police. In 2015 when Buhari came to power, he was only a Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP), but he rapidly rose to the rank of Commissioner of Police in just 4 years.
That means he went from Chief Superintendent of Police to Assistant Police Commissioner, to Deputy Police Commissioner, and to Police Commissioner in the space of just 4 years!

Nigeria’s Poverty Population Hits 94 Million —OXFAM

From 91,501,377 in April to 94,470,535 people in September.
2,969,158 people move into extreme poverty in 6months.

Oxfam International says no fewer than 94,470,535 million people in Nigeria live below extreme poverty line, according to the latest World Poverty Clock.

Oxfam International Country Director in Nigeria, Constant Tchona, said this on Monday in Abuja at the organisation’s Programme Quality Review and Planning meeting with the theme “On the Road To Becoming an Influencing Hub”.

Mr Tchona decried that this number of people live below the benchmark of N684 per day.

“The number of people that live below extreme poverty level as at April was 91,501,377, making Nigeria the World Capital of Poverty.

“As if that was not bad enough, at the moment, six months later, the number has jumped up to 94,470,535 people.

“What this means is that we have added 2,969,158 people more into extreme poverty.

“By comparison, this number is more than the population of Gambia and Cape Verde combined.

“At the current rate, Nigeria is not only off track to meet the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) but many now believe that up to 25 per cent of the world’s extreme poor will live in Nigeria by 2030.

“Nigeria total population is 200,963,599 people according to the Worldometer and is to become the world’s third largest country by 2050,” he noted.

While describing the burden as pathetic, the country director noted that Nigerian government was aware of the rate of poverty in the land.

Mr Tchona quoted President Muhammadu Buhari’s intention to “lift 100 million Nigerians out of poverty over the next 10 years and set them on the path to prosperity’’ to “fundamentally shift Nigeria’s trajectory and place it among the World’s Great Nations’’.

According to him, if this is achieved, Nigeria will shock the world to achieve the SDGs.

“Now the question is what is the role of the citizens and how that role will be played in supporting both elected and appointed officials in achieving this lofty goal.

“What could be the role of International NGOs like Oxfam on that journey?” he asked.

He noted that in order to effectively make impact in poverty reduction, the organisation would have to reminiscent on its programmes to ensure they were not against Oxfam well established quality standard.

He stressed the need to expedite actions, adding that more people are getting into extreme poverty as at the moment.

Mr Tchona explained that the meeting was to reflect on what that role of the organisation in support for government and citizens could be in order to reduce the burden of poverty.

He said the meeting was also to explore ways to strengthen business support to power up Oxfam execution capability while ensuring operational excellence.

Politics › 2020 Budget Is A Budget Of Bankruptcy ― Odilim Enwegbara, Economist by KEVIND(op): 8:22am On Oct 09, 2019
Economist and public affairs commentator, Mr Odilim Enwegbara has described the 2020 Appropriation Bill as “a budget of bankruptcy”.
Reacting to the Bill presented to a joint session of the National Assembly on Tuesday, Enwegbara wondered if Nigeria had not “come to the point of agreeing that this business of federal government running Nigeria’s economy should be finally brought to an end?

“For how long do we have to have such a prodigious federal government, a government that can’t stop its borrowing spree?

“For how long should we allow this government to continue to borrow its oversized consumption, where less than two million government workers have directly and indirectly be responsible for 90% of the country’s annual spending?

“For how long should the federal government has to decide where and why road or water etc. should be constructed in Nigeria?”

According to him, debt service to revenue ratio is currently approaching 80% with domestic debt approaching 70% of the country’s overall debt stock.

Politics › 2023: Rumble In PDP As Wike, Tambuwal, Others Move Against Atiku Presidency by KEVIND(op): 1:49pm On Oct 02, 2019
The battle for the soul of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ahead of the 2023 presidential election has already began as the Rivers State governor, Nyesom Wike and his Sokoto State counterpart, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, have launched political onslaught against the party’s presidential candidate in the 2019 election, former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar.
Pointblanknews.com gathered that Tambuwal and Wike who are planning to emerged as PDP’s presidential candidate and running mate respectively in 2023, have been scheming to ensure that Atiku does not win at the Supreme Court.
A party source told Pointblanknews.com that the two governors who are seeking to edge out Atiku as defacto leader of the party on account of his presidential candidacy status, are worried that if Atiku emerges the party candidate in 2023, their political career would be over.
It was further learnt that National Chairman of the PDP, Prince Uche Secondus, who Wike singlehandedly installed has also ditched him for Atiku, who has since held firm to the reins of the party. The former vice president has been holding strategic meetings on the running of the party in far away Dubai, the recent of which was with the Board of Trustees (BoT) of the party.
The source added that the recent outbursts by Wike against the leadership of the party is reflective of his frustration at his loss of grip on events in the party.
Wike backed Tambuwal’s ambition in 2019 to emerge the PDP presidential candidate which he eventually lost to Atiku at the primaries. But Wike and Tambuwal remained close.
However, Wike had congratulated Buhari after Atiku lost at the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal (PEPT) in a move meant to spite the party over its failure to yield to his candidate for the House Minority Leader, Hon Kingsley Chinda. Hon Ndudi Elumelu had emerged minority leader against the party’s directive to PDP members to vote for Hon Chinda.
Miffed by the situation, the Rivers State governor had described a committee setup by the PDP BoT, comprising three former Senate presidents, to investigate the crisis arising from the House minority leadership tussle as corrupt.
Worried that Wike’s outbursts was getting out of hand, Tambuwal led five other PDP governors including Adamawa State Governor, Umaru Fintiri; Imo State Governor, Emeka Ihedioha; Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde; Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom; and Zamfara State Governor, Mohammed Matawalle, to Port Harcourt to appease him.
However, the PDP source told Pointblanknews.com that the intrigues currently playing out in the party was a manifestation of Wike and Tambuwal’s move to wrest the party structure away from Atiku.
The source said, “Governors Tambuwal, Wike are leading some PDP leaders to work against Atiku’s Presidency because of 2023. They fear that an Atiku’s presidency will retire them politically and kill their presidential ambitions. Tambuwal wants to run for the 2023 Presidential Elections.
“He has Wike in mind as his running mate. The duo have been plotting to ensure that the Atiku is not successful at the court. Their calculation is that despite Atiku’s plan to run a single term, he might renege on that and do a two terms, which would put most of them out politically.
“On the other hand, Uche Secondus has fallen out with Wike because of his perceived loyalty to Atiku and others who returned back to PDP. Wike feel Secondus has not shown enough loyalty after he backed and bankrolled his emergence as chairman of the party.
“He has stopped Secondus’s wife contract in Rivers and also denied Secondus son a contract, something he effortlessly does when the going was good.”
Besides Wike and Tambuwal, the source also revealed that former governors of Kano and Gombe states, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso and Ibrahim Dankwambo are also plotting to upstage Atiku ahead of 2023.
“Kwankwaso and Dankwambo are also part of the plot against Atiku. Recall Kwankwanso and Dankwambo couldn’t deliver their states for Atiku,” the source added.

Politics › Southern, Middle Belt Leaders Reject Livestock Policy, Waterways Bill by KEVIND(op): 11:18am On Sep 27, 2019
The Southern, Middle Belt Leaders Forum (SMBLF) yesterday rejected the National Livestock Transformation Plan (NLTP) of the Federal Government, maintaining that the policy makes no economic sense for the country.

The body queried the rationale behind the move by the President Muhammadu Buhari administration “to use the collective resources of Nigerians to convert herdsmen, majority of whom are non-Nigerians, from nomadic to sedentary lifestyles while doing their private business that has nothing to do with the rest of us beyond being their market. It is akin to government making budgetary allocations to Coca Cola to produce drinks to sell to Nigerians.”

Besides, the leaders said there were other fundamental problems inherent in the programme.

In a statement yesterday after a meeting in Abuja signed by its spokespersons, Yinka Odumakin (South West), Professor Chigozie Ogbu (South East), Bassey Henshaw (South-South), and Dr. Isuwa Dogo (Middle Belt), the group deplored the seeming inability of government to “mobilise national consensus to confront the monumental tragedies bedeviling the country.”

The leaders claimed that the Buhari administration had instead been “busied itself with policies that are divisive and smack of domination and conquest of sections of the country by a section.”

The forum noted that the NLTP “will only escalate the clashes between the indigenous communities and cattle settlers as experiences in Southern and Middle Belt areas of Nigeria have shown that the Fulani imports do not assimilate into the ways of lives of Nigerians in those parts of the country where they reside.”

The group went on: “They live apart from the locals and set up communities with alien culture that disrupts the cultural flow of the indigenes.

“The subterfuge of the whole deal is exposed in that while government officials deceive Nigerians that the plan will stop open grazing for ranching, option 1 in it provides for the establishment of corridors for migrant cattle with feeding and watering points along the routes. This is as stark as the lie that ‘livestock’ include other sources of meat. The entire plan is about cattle and herdsmen.”

The SMBLF said it does not accept the policy and asked the Federal Government to allow those who are in cattle business to establish ranches on their own under the guidelines and laws of the host state.

The group also observed that the Waterways Bill was “another conquest agenda in sync with the NLTP.”

It considered vexatious the piece of legislation sponsored by the President and entitled, “A Bill for An Act to Establish a Regulatory Framework for the Water Resources Sector in Nigeria, Provide for the Equitable and Sustainable Redevelopment, Management, Use and Conservation of Nigeria’s Surface Water and Groundwater Resources and for Related Matter.”

The leaders alleged that “the Waterways Bill is another land-grabbing move like RUGA by ethnic supremacists who are working against the unity of the country. Major rivers in Nigeria can be made available, by federal law if the bill is passed, to Fulani pastoralists and there is nothing the indigenous people within such vicinities can do about it.”

They further claimed: “The police and the security agencies will be handy to enforce it and it will be another White farmers versus the African landowners scenario in South Africa during the Apartheid season.”

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has said that truly the commission is not Independent.
Head of Certified Trainer, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Mrs Hajia Garba Safia, made this known during a two days Zonal Training organised for Electoral Security Personnel for Kogi 2019 Governorship Election
supported by the European Centre for Electoral support which took place in Okene, Kogi central Kogi State which ends on Wednesday.

She noted that although INEC enjoys financial autonomy and, since the amendments to the Electoral Act 2019, draws directly from the Consolidated Revenue of the Federation, yet this positive change in the funding regime of INEC, it still depends on the political will of the executive and the internal administrative processes of the Budget and Finance Ministries for early release of funds for confirming elections.

“Delays with the release of the fund can negatively impact on INEC preparations and create anxiety within the polity. In the light of increasing concerns about the rising costs of elections associated with the cost of hardware components of technology and the huge administrative costs of running elections, issues of inadequate budgets and late release of funds may pose as challenges in the electoral environment that can play out in electoral security.

She further stressed that the perception that security agencies are partial and lack neutrality in the electoral process can be a real source of discord, tension and violence in the electoral process.
She noted that the general perception that the Police, in particular, is corrupt could have implication for the level of public confidence in the institutions in the context of providing electoral security.

“However, recognising that there is no alternative to the deployment of security agencies under the control of the police in providing electoral security implies that control efforts need to be made on the part of the police and other security agencies to increase public confidence in the agencies.
“Electoral security should, therefore, be provided on the basis of professionalism of security agencies and loyalty to the nation as envisaged in the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,’ she pleaded.
