Politics › Nigeria Drifting Into Anarchy, Northern Leaders Raise Alarm by KEVIND(op): 8:18am On Jul 02, 2019
By Ben Agande

Kaduna— A meeting of Northern leaders, including retired Army Generals and Inspectors General of Police, intelligence experts, academia and other technocrats, yesterday, warned that the country was gradually drifting into anarchy as a result of the failure of government to address the security challenges confronting the country.

Nigeria has failed’

At a two-day Northern Nigeria Security Conference in Kaduna, organised by Arewa Research and Development Project in collaboration with Sir Ahmadu Bello Foundation, Savanna Centre for Diplomacy, Democracy and Development as well as the Joint Committee of Northern Youth Associations, speakers warned that politicising the security situation in the region would have dire consequences.

The meeting with the theme, “Organising and coordinating community response to the rising insecurity in the North,” deliberated on the security situation in the North-East, where Boko Haran had ravaged for 10 years and the North-West, where cattle rustling and banditry have held sway.

Dr. Usman Bugaje of Arewa Research and Development Project, one of the conveners of the meeting, expressed concern over the increasing spate of insecurity occasioned by kidnapping, armed robbery and banditry across the north and parts of the country.

He lamented that the failure of the Nigerian government to protect its citizens had forced many Nigerians to illegally amass weapons for self-defence.

“We should not play politics with the issue of security. We, as citizens, are not here to undermine government on what they are doing but to complement their efforts,” he said.

Speaking on the security situation in the North-East, Director, Centre for Defence Studies and Documentation, Nigerian Defence Academy, Kaduna, Prof. Usman Tar, noted that the Boko Haram insurgency was no longer “a North-East problem” as viewed in the past “but today, it is a transnational problem as it has spiraled into neighbouring countries.”

He said the military could only win the war if they changed “tactics,” arguing that there was need for an alternative approach to the fight against the insurgents.

The don also disclosed that the north’s neglect of almajiri would spell doom for the region in the near future if not tackled.

He said: “If we don’t take care of them (almajiri), then they will form the next line of recruitment for Boko Haram. As observed earlier, there are no purely military solutions to ending insurgency.

“The issue of governance deficit remains the root cause of Boko Haram conflict; poor governance, corruption and leadership failure are part of the causal factors that led to the conflict in the first place, which eventually brought about the proliferation of IDPs in the North-East.”

On his part, Prof. Jibrin Ibrahim, a Senior Fellow at The Centre for Democracy and Development, said the current insecurity pervading the north or Nigeria was due to failure of the state to protect her citizens.

According to him, the state has failed in its statutory responsibility of providing security to the people.
Politics › THE CONSPIRACY OF THE RUGA PROJECT. by KEVIND(op): 6:14am On Jul 02, 2019
In the year 2014 and 2015, it was expected that Nigeria was to go into some sort of war after the elections, and as a result some opposition leaders took it upon themselves to import 'Fulani Mercenaries' from outside the shores and borders of Nigeria. Their task was quite simple; they were to help fight against the incumbent government and make the country ungovernable should those who hired them fail to be elected into the most powerful seat in the world- President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
So perfect was the plan that there wasn't any alternative plan on how to compensate the imported mercenaries if they eventually won the elections. Yes! Finally the election was won but there were no plans on what to do with the host of Fulani Mercenaries in the bushes and thick forests which characterized some parts of the country. The newly elected government now had a difficult puzzle to solve- it was on how to compensate the imported mercenaries and send them packing. Absolutely never an easy task.
These imported mercenaries on the other hand, sensing they were left to their own fate now resorted to mobilize themselves into various camps and engaged in the art of kidnapping and genocidal killings. These crimes they willfully executed for two prior reasons: one, it was to ensure they had enough money to survive and feed themselves in the bush trenches and also buy enough bullet ammunitions for their guns and armaments. Second, it was to ensure they inflict pains on the citizens who will complain bitterly [calling on foreign authorities] and exert pressure on the government. These two tactics, they created and perfected to ensure the government is forced to bow to them into some sort of negotiations.
Finally, after the pressure became much on the government due to incessant kidnappings and killings all over the country, the government called for negotiations. The hired mercenaries accused the government of hiring it and abandoning them in the bush with no shelter, no food, no drugs, no electricity and other basic needs. They blatantly and bluntly requested for all the things they accused the government of not providing to them, and added, they want to be treated as legitimate citizens of the country Nigeria. Until this is done, they vowed, to continue the killings and kidnappings.
With these requests, the government was held in the scrotum and its balls almost about to be crushed. The government had to decide on a project with the sole purpose of providing to its targeted audience [not Nigerian citizens & not Nigerian Fulanis] their infamous requests. The rate at which the government seemed restless to implement such 'Ruga Project' with or without the consent of its citizens turned suspicious and the only reason given was thus: 'the Ruga project is to ensure that farmers/herders clash is being solve'.
National Patriotic voices from different parts of the country came out strongly to criticize the rationale of having Ruga(s) which were meant to service fulanis and not Nigerians. And in its brilliant suggestions insisted ranching remains the best option and in so doing all Nigerians must be given equal rights as stipulated by the law. No one tribal nation should be favoured to the detriment of host of other national tribes and people.
The conspiracy is thickening and the clouds are thick to the extent a slight strike of lightening might make the dark clouds fall. However, the Truth is one: the problem is virtually not about farmers/herders clashes; it is about housing the host of imported Fulani mercenaries who have complained, threatened, and issued out its own conditions to stop killings and kidnappings. The borders of Nigeria is the gates of hell. Mama, save your children. "How did we get here Mama?". Our killers are now our guests to feed, house, and cloth.

Christianity Etc › Prophet TB Joshua: The Journey To Nazareth -by Dele Momodu by KEVIND(op): 5:12am On Jun 30, 2019
Fellow Nigerians, let me say how
delighted I feel right now that I made the trip to Israel this past
week. Israel is not new to me just like I’m not new to Israel. In
addition, I have good friends from that small, but extremely powerful
nation. I will return to that shortly, as this trip was full of drama.

Let’s begin with Act 1, Scene 1. I had
no intention of heading to Israel at this time, my studies in Oxford and
a couple of projects in Nigeria and Ghana meant that travelling to that
side of the world was not in my consciousness at all. However, God must
have planned the journey without my knowledge. The trip dropped itself
on my laps without warning.

I had received a call from one of the most prayerful and extremely benevolent women of God, Reverend Mother Abimbola Esther Ajayi, popularly known by her moniker, Iya Adura, who incidentally had invited and taken me to Jerusalem, between 2017 and 2018. On the trip I got introduced to a very efficient tour operator, Shadia, who took good care of all of us.

TB Joshua
TB Joshua
The call from Iya Adura, with whom I
talk almost daily on several issues, this time was at the instance of
Shadia who wanted an introduction and recommendation to the incredibly
popular Prophet, Temitope Balogun Joshua (T.B. Joshua), who has been a
long-time friend and Brother of mine. Iya Adura apparently told Shadia
she has no contact for or association with T. B Joshua but mentioned my
name as one person that can definitely reach Prophet T. B Joshua who
happens to be one of the most sought-after human beings in Africa, and
beyond. So, Mama called, and I swung into action immediately.

I started by calling all the numbers I
had for Prophet T. B Joshua but couldn’t reach him directly. I left
messages but got no instant response. However, two days later he sent a
text that he’d also been trying my numbers in Nigeria, Ghana and the
United Kingdom since the day before upon seeing my calls and messages. I
obviously did not recognize the number he was calling from and I did
not get to reply immediately. I quickly called him, and we spoke with
our usual conviviality. I told him the reason I wanted to speak to him,
and he requested for Shadia’s number with automatic alacrity and
promised to reach out to her instantly. I felt greatly honoured that
such an incredibly busy man could accord me such respect. To my utter
amazement, I confirmed from Shadia minutes later that he reached out to
her as promised.

I thought that was all. My introduction
and task were over, I withdrew into my shell, but it was not to be for
long. Days later, I got a call from Prophet T. B Joshua asking me to
join him on his trip to Nazareth for a powerful crusade. There was no
way I could have said no to him. I immediately accepted his invitation. I
promised to travel from London to Israel as I had to return to the
University of Oxford where I have been on Fellowship. He promised to
call back and we spoke a few more times before the journey.

Act 1, Scene 2. All was set and I
seriously looked forward to visiting the birthplace of our Lord Jesus
Christ. On the day of travel, I arrived London Heathrow Airport Terminal
5 early, as I always do. I hate to arrive late to the airport like some
people do and start rushing and panting. The best part of the journey
for me is exhaustively making use of the lounges of airlines like
Emirates, Virgin Atlantic and British Airways. You can do with a bit of
pampering before you fly. Well, at least I can! On this occasion, I was
flying with British Airways and once through the departure formalities I
promptly went into the Concorde Lounge and buried myself into the sheer
luxury that the it has to offer.

After leaving the lounge on this special
day, I boarded my flight early and settled down comfortably in my seat.
Then a message flew in from my cousin that there were reports of
possible trouble for Prophet T. B Joshua in Nazareth. I opened the link
and there were tales of different groups including Christians, Rabbis
and Muslims, objecting seriously to the planned crusade by T. B Joshua. I
foresaw an apocalypse ahead but knowing myself well enough, I was
actually energized and more determined to witness whatever would happen
on the day. Journalists are like soldiers; we love and revel in action
and the big news.

I landed in Tel Aviv late evening of
June 21, 2019, but due to the long walk to Immigration desks and the
queues, I only managed to pick my bags past midnight and arrived the
Ramada Hotel, in Nazareth, at a time most normal people were fast asleep
and probably snoring away. Throughout my taxi drive to Nazareth, I was
on the lookout for any sign of trouble but saw none at all. The events
were billed to start on June 23 and end on June 24. I went to bed
dog-tired and barely struggled to wake up for breakfast at about 10a.m.

Not much happened until D-Day, June 23.
There was palpable tension because of the negative news that had gone
viral. Will the crusade go on or not was the million-dollar question on
every lip? But the organizers were unperturbed. They went about their
duty with every sense of purpose and responsibility. Nothing was left to
chance. Security was top of the agenda. They were determined not to let
anyone come to constitute a nuisance. On a regular day, Israel never
jokes with Security not to talk of an unusual day such as this.

You must give it to T. B Joshua, he
meticulously executed this project. His team was just superb. The
attendees came from different parts of the world. Wow, we seem to
underrate T. B Joshua back home. Without sounding profane, he is
regarded and treated like a supernatural being in Israel. He is adored
and worshipped with great fervour indeed. When I landed at Tel Aviv
airport, several people asked me with admiration and enthusiasm if I had
come for T. B Joshua’s program. I was so proud that a fellow Nigerian
has succeeded in capturing the imagination of this part of the world in
this manner.

Act 1, Scene 3. The event started slowly
at about 4pm with some soul-lifting and stirring music by the choir
assembled as a potpourri of Arabs and Africans. It came to a crescendo
when T. B Joshua came in humbly, but powerfully, in his usual garb of
shirt and trousers. He looked so majestic and mercurial even in his
simplicity. He climbed the stage and grabbed the microphone and the
audience roared as he began to teach like a true follower of Christ and
the Holy Bible that he is. His theme for this first session was about
love and he quoted copiously about love from the holy book to the
excitement and adulation of the throngs of people massed and gathered to
watch, listen and worship with him. He told them to love those who hate
and despise them, no matter how difficult that seems.

His opening words were dramatic and
foreshadowed the intense passion that was to follow. “My name is T. B
Joshua. Some people call me Prophet. Some call me Pastor… They have
given me different titles, but all I know is that my name is T. B
Joshua. That is enough for me…” The crowd went wild in ecstatic
jubilation at the simplicity of his introduction of his person. After a
few minutes, the prophet came down and came out to be closer and
interact with his followers. Miracle seekers had jammed the place in
droves. They came from far and near, with all manner of challenges and
disabilities. The Prophet who obviously was used to this was unruffled.
He told them to have faith in the power of Jesus Christ to deliver them
from all evil. He told them all diseases are the handiwork of the devil,
but that the Lord, being a merciful, loving and benevolent God would
come down to heal them, provided they believed in God as their Lord and
Saviour.

Then they were lined up in rows and the
Prophet started laying hands on them. Even before touching some of them,
they were already reacting with spasms and seemed to be under the
control and influence of some supernatural being. He started touching
them, and some fell down, some screamed, some rolled on the floor and
some did a combination of these things. Some were thanking God for
healing them instantly. Some begged him to have mercy on them. T. B
Joshua has totally matured into his evangelical work. It was wonderful
and inspiring watching him at work. Meanwhile, his wife, Lady Evelyn,
stood solidly behind him like the Rock of Gibraltar and assisted as
required. The event ended at about 9p.m without any hitch. The Prophet
of the Lord, T. B. Joshua performed miracles and touched hundreds of
devotees during the event. The event was simply epochal, and I felt
truly privileged to have been a part of it.

Act 2, Scene 1. The second day came and
followed the same pattern. In his preaching, T. B Joshua revealed how he
had visited Mount Precipice three years ago and was shocked to find the
place overgrown with weeds. He had promised at the time to turn the
place around and make it into an Eldorado. He showed the video of how
desolate and forlorn the place looked at the time. True to his word, T.
B. Joshua has radically changed and altered the place and its
environment, turning it into a magnificent and powerful amphitheatre for
the worship of God. In doing this, he has not only built a testament to
the glory of God, he has created direct and indirect employment for
hundreds of people and become a wealth creator and facilitator for this
little historical and biblical part of Nazareth, as most of Nazareth is.
Indeed, it is no longer a site of rejection as the Bible tells us but a
site of regeneration and hope. Pope Benedict who worshipped there with
more than 40,000 people would be glad to see that today, T B Joshua has
restored this monument to the glory that it should have and more
besides.

In the course of our visit, I was
invited to his office, he had many rooms and tents all over the mountain
and wherever I went to I saw the awesome work and wonder of the Man of
God. We discussed the magnitude of his work for a few minutes before I
departed to the hotel. I left with a better picture and appreciation of a
T. B Joshua to whom we don’t seem to give enough respect at home. With
what I saw, heard and learnt, I have come to believe that he has
suffered too many unjustified insults and tribulations back home.

My take is that religion is a voluntary
act. Joshua has never forced anyone to worship with him against that
person’s wish or to attend his Synagogue by compulsion. He has not
coerced anyone into seeking to receive the miracles he professes to
bring to people on behalf of God. Let me say, emphatically, that as far
as I am concerned, he is the single biggest tourism attraction in Lagos.
I expect Lagos State Government to tap into this goldmine by
collaborating with Joshua and turning the roads leading to his place of
worship into well maintained expressways. That is what Joshua himself
has done in Mount Precipice, but laws, envy, lack of understanding and
comprehension as well as the capriciousness of our leaders have made it
impossible for him to replicate this feat in his own backyard. This is
what would have happened in other climes.

If what I witnessed in Nazareth is
anything to judge by, T. B Joshua has become a religious prodigy and
icon. My taxi drivers in Nazareth swore by his name. I became a star
myself by dropping his name. The newspapers were agog with the news of
our Man of God as he spread the gospel at this unique and spectacular
event. T B Joshua made me proud to be a Nigerian. It is not all gloom
and doom.

I thank God on his behalf…
Politics › How Fulani Converted Ruga Settlements In My Community Into An Emirate – Ex-obas by KEVIND(op):
A former Senior Special Assistant to ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo, Jonathan Asake, has said the new move to create Ruga settlements in some parts of the country is nothing but an attempt to ‘Fulanise’ the country.

Asake, who was a member of the seventh House of Representatives between 2011 and 2015, said this during an interview on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily on Friday.

He said the term ‘Ruga’ was a Fulani word and it was thus hypocritical of anyone to say when it is implemented across the nation, it would not be exclusive to Fulani.

Asake, who is from southern Kaduna, said in 1987, the then government of Kaduna State approved Ruga settlements in the old Kachia Local Government Area which now comprises Zangon Kataf, Chikun, Kajuru and Kachia Local Government Areas.

He, however, said over time, the Fulani began to expand these settlements and today, some of them are being converted to Emirates.

Asake, who is a leader of the Middle Belt Forum, said, “I’m from Zangon Kataf Local Government Area in Kaduna State. We have what was established in 1987 as the Kachia grazing reserve in the then old Kachia LG which comprises Zangon Kataf, Chikun and Kajuru and Kachia Local Government Areas of today.

“That grazing reserve has been changed to Laduga. Laduga is actually a Fulani word and no indigene is there. The land has been taken over from the indigenes. And that place is now a big town, with big hospitals and roads.

“In fact, the last voter registration exercise there, two registration machines were put there. Today, they have a district head and they are asking for an emirate. It is just a model of what will happen tomorrow in this country when these settlements are established. You will have state constituencies in the state assembly established all over the country strictly for Fulani.”

Asake said the Ruga initiative must be rejected because government’s ultimate plan is to take over ancestral land from indigenous owners and give it to a particular people.

He hailed socio-cultural groups in the South, especially Afenifere and Ohanaeze Ndi Igbo for rejecting the idea.

Christianity Etc › While Iran, US Go Head-to-head, Iranians Are Turning Their Hearts To Jesus by KEVIND(op): 4:13pm On Jun 26, 2019
It may surprise you that the fastest growing church in the world is in Iran.
Yet that’s the assessment of those who have seen and heard the remarkable story of millions turning away from Shiite Islam and turning toward Jesus Christ.
The image Iran presents to the world is large demonstrations with shouts of ‘Death to America’ and ‘Death to Israel’.
Those who have seen Iran from the inside, however, paint a very different picture.
“You can’t believe the images on TV. Because for example, all the protests you see on the streets, those are mostly contrived. They’re young people on the streets and they’ve told us if we don’t go to the streets, we won’t get our grades so we’re forced to go and protest,” one Iranian church worker said.
He spoke to CBN News on condition of anonymity.
He says there are two Irans. The one you see on the news and the other hidden from the world.
“I would say there’s a 10 percent Iran and a 90 percent Iran. Ten percent control the country in a more oppressive manner, hardline, religious manner and then the majority of the people, 90 percent of the people love America. They don’t hate Americans. I think that’s the message that Americans need to hear. They tell us all the time, we don’t hate Americans, we love America.”
He wants Americans to know that forty years after Iran’s Islamic revolution, there’s another spiritual revolution underway.
“Awaken to the truth that we live in a time that’s very special. More people have come to faith in Iran in the forty years than in the previous 1400 years. So, there’s a once, not only in a lifetime, but in history where we have a moment where Iranians are coming to faith at such a rapid rate.”
Frontiers Alliance International (FAI) is producing a documentary called Sheep Among Wolves to introduce the Iranian church to Christians worldwide.
“What’s taking place in Iran right now is spectacular,” says FAI founder and director Dalton Thomas. “It’s the fastest growing church in the world that owns no buildings, has no 501c3’s, that owns no property, that has no bank accounts; that has no centralized leadership; that has no denominational leaning and yet it’s multiplying like crazy … What the Lord is doing there is staggering.”
The evangelism results in intense persecution that Thomas says leads Iranian believers to seek prayer but not in a way you may think.
“Typically, the way we pray is we expect that they want us to pray for the persecution to end and they say, no, no, don’t do that. Persecution is growing the church. When the persecution stops, the growth stops. What we want is the Gospel to spread far and wide and deep in Iran.”
With Iran and the use on the brink of war, Thomas says it’s important to see what’s happening behind the Iranian veil.
“When Muslims from Iran come in contact with the Man from Nazareth, something beautiful happens. And when they realize that they have been bought and saved and purchased with Jewish blood; prophesized by Jewish prophets in a Jewish Bible something crazy happens; something beautiful happens and that’s what we’re seeing take place in Iran.”
Thomas believes one day the world may wake up to find Iran’s church growth in the 21 st century rivaling that in China and Korea in the last century.

Really? so why did he not stop it? why did his useless God let it happen? he can perform his so called miracles for other people and claim to save them from tragedy, cure them of their illness and raise them from the dead. but couldn't save his own members who was killed..why did His God let those people die? He should have save them to prove that God exists and that his so called miracles are real, he should have raised them from the dead.
Matthew 10:28 - Don't be afraid of people. They can kill you, but they cannot harm your soul. Instead, you should fear God who can destroy both your body and your soul in hell.

It's all good to predict tragedy but what did he do to prevent the tragedy?
Do you know that Jesus Christ knew well ahead the evil that will befall his disciples. The gruesome way they'll die? Peter and Paul:1 Paul was beheaded. 2.Peter was crucified, upside down at his request 3.Andrew was crucified 4.Thomas died when pierced through with the spears of four soldiers. 5.Philip was cruelly put to death. 6.Matthew was stabbed to death in Ethiopia. 7.James was stoned and then clubbed to death. 8.Simon was killed in Persia after refusing to sacrifice to the sun god. 9..Matthais was burnt to death. Politics › Re: External Reserves: Anxiety Mounts As Debt Service-to-revenue Hits 70% by KEVIND(op): 10:24am On Jun 25, 2019
What debt service ratio means

Wikipedia, an online dictionary, says “a country’s debt service ratio , in economics and government finance, is the ratio of its debt service payments (principal + interest) to its export earnings. A country’s international finances are healthier when this ratio is low. The World Bank, in its International Debt Statistics, corroborating this definition, explains that “the sum of principal repayments and interest actually paid in currency, goods, or services on long-term debt, interest paid on short-term debt, and repayments (repurchases and charges) to the IMF’, which puts Nigeria total debt service at 6.30 as of 2016. Its highest value over the past 39 years was 38.04 in 1986, while its lowest value was 0.49 in 2013.”
With the impending 70 per cent debt servicing-to-revenue ratio, another enormous pressure awaits the nation’s foreign reserves because, “basically, external debts have to be settled in foreign currency. Therefore, the stock of reserves becomes a significant source of financing the external imbalances”, say Senibi et al in their research article: Public and External Reserves: The Nigerian Experience (1981-2013).
Meanwhile, Head of Research at Augusto & Co, Jimi Ogbobine, blamed Nigeria’s high debt servicing-to-revenue ratio on its very low tax base or government’s weak tax collection capacity.
“If you look at non-oil taxes, they are less than four per cent of the GDP. What that means is that we have a big GDP but we are able to extract taxes from just small portion of that GDP.” The second reason is that our budget structure is also weak. We allocate more to consumption, like recurrent expenditure rather than investment in capital expenditure (capex). When you invest more in capex, it increases the attractiveness, the competitiveness of your economy so that benefits can flow in better, you can address structural issues and some cases that arise in the economy,” he said.
On the growing concern over the fate of the reserves, he said the major task, beyond the reserves, will be on the fiscal side. “If you spend 60 per cent of your revenue on debt service, you will have only 40 percent left to finance both capital and recurrent expenditure. If you have a balanced budget, you will have 40 per cent left for overhead recurrent and other expenditures. But in the case of Nigeria we do not run a balanced budget when we have a budget deficit. By the time 40 per cent is gone into debt servicing, you know we have a new minimum wage. Even beyond the minimum wage, for the overhead and recurrent expenditure, what we have left for capital expenditure (capex) is mainly financed through borrowing. And what we also have left for human capital development for core sectors like education and health is impaired a la through borrowing for repayment cost. That is the implication.
Another use to which the external reserves is put is foreign exchange (forex) market intervention so as to guard against unforeseen volatility. This was enunciated recently by Emefiele, when he stated: “The CBN Act demands that we “defend” the Naira using the foreign exchange reserves.
In setting out the 5 principal mandates of the CBN, Section 2, Subsection C of the CBN Act 2007 reads and I quote “…maintain external reserves to safeguard the international value of the legal tender currency”.

Out of every N100 Nigeria earn, we spend N70 repaying debt.

By Omodele Adigun

As Nigeria’s external reserves ebbed to $44.8 billion last Monday, from over $45 billion announced by the Central Bank Governor, Godwin Emefiele, the prior week, anxiety is now mounting over its trajectory as debt service-to-revenue ratio, outlined in the 2019 Budget, is set to hit 70 per cen t.
This is coming barely seven months after the Senior Resident Representative of International Monetary Fund (IMF) in Nigeria, Mr. Amine Mati, warned fiscal and monetary authorities that “debt servicing, which currently takes about 50 per cent of the country’s revenue, is certainly high.”
He then advised that it was high time the government addressed Nigeria’s debt service/revenue ratio!
But from the look of things, it seems that warning was not heeded as N2.144 trillion or over 24 per cent of the N8.916 trillion budgeted for this year is waiting to be gobbled up by debt servicing obligations.
This is 6.46 per cent higher than N2.013 trillion used to offset debt obligations in 2018. But in the face of government’s dwindling revenue streams, Senator Udoma Udo Udoma, the erstwhile Minister of Budget and National Planning, announced before vacating office last month that the 2019 budget has overall deficit of N1.859 trillion which was 1.33 per cent of Nigeria’s gross domestic output. He added that the projected deficit would be funded mainly by borrowing N1.649 trillion from domestic and foreign debt markets.
“The implication of the deficit portion is that it will push the debt service-to-revenue ratio from 66 percent to above 70 percent in 2019, which is like spending N70 out of every N100 earned by the Federal Government to service debt”, says New Fortunes, a publication of Finance Correspondents Association of Nigeria.
Mati in his warnings last year noted that interest payment had become a major challenge as “a lot more of the resources are going into paying interests and there is less to spend on capital expenditure.”
The IMF chief advised that massive revenue mobilisation remained the only way to address the challenge but noted that Nigeria, was not doing well enough in that regard.
According to him, the Nigerian authorities rather than mobilising more revenue, its current strategy has been to cut expenditure in an economy with a very poor rate of spending.
He said “adjustment has relied on spending compression rather than revenue mobilisation,” adding that the nation has huge revenue potential that remained untapped.

"For those of us that didn’t go to school, it means out of every N100 we earn, we spend N70 repaying debt, only 30 to run the country, 28 of which is stolen anyway."

Nigerians must have sense by force.

Politics › The Niger Delta: The Blighted Land Of A Benighted People? by KEVIND(op): 7:22pm On Jun 22, 2019
The future of the Niger delta is bleak and Gloomy.

The future of the Niger Delta looks bleak. It is not hopeless because crude oil will soon become worthless. Crude oil lives on borrowed times. And those who have hung their faith on it will pay for not reading the times.

The future of the delta is however horrendous because oil boomed and corroded work ethics and degraded the environment. Oil itself wasn’t the problem. The problem was greed and laziness, selfishness and indolence, which oil and its easy wealth, cultured and fostered in the delta.

Niger Delta children are now born in chains. They come out shackled with a grotesque sense of entitlement that induces fantasies of easy sudden wealth, discourages hard work and endows them with a brittle temper. Many while in adolescence are crippled by the delusion that they are privileged princes of a land flowing with milk and honey, and they do therefore need not exert themselves if they are sufficiently conscious of their heritage. Many so afflicted do not therefore bother to go to school.

Many of the companies that operate in the delta are compelled by host communities to have thousands of ghost workers on their payrolls. These lazy youths and their pugnacious fathers sit at home idle and collect pay checks at month end. They justify that slothfulness by pointing at the kleptocracy of politicians whom they believe are agents of a rapacious system that has lived parasitically in the bowels of the Niger Delta.

The Niger Delta is now full of people who have the psyche of “area boys.’ And this mindset pervades even the echelons.

When crude oil which is on death row finally dies, the Niger Delta could be a forsaken land. There will definitely be no more vacancies for ghosts. There may be no resources to control. The youths who have developed a large appetite for state government handouts could be stranded. And with minds that have learnt easy recourse to violence, it could be nightmarish.

But it could be worse.

The Niger Delta could actually be unlivable.
Yes, youths who have learnt slothfulness and arrogance could turn to cannibalism. The literal strangle hold of cults on Ahoda and parts of Rivers State is a strain of the cannibalism I have in mind. But that which could come could be more disastrous. A scenario where gangs and cults will share sovereignty with the state.

But that isn’t even the most frightful of them.

The Niger Delta could be truly unlivable.

All kinds of hustlers and rapacious businessmen register as Waste management companies. Waste management is lucrative. But it becomes more lucrative than drug peddling if you don’t have to treat the waste. It happens in Europe. Shady European companies collect waste. They know waste treatment can be very expensive. All they need do is find a third world country where they would bribe one or two officials and get the toxic waste smuggled in and dumped. Italian toxic waste arrived Koro near Warri in thousands of barrels labeled building materials in 1988. The public erupted. But that seems eons ago.

Many waste management companies in the Niger Delta are given contracts by drilling companies to handle waste. The wastes are harmful to the environment. Treatment requires detoxification before disposal. But these companies collect the hazardous waste and dump them in the villages. The village youths get their commissions. The traditional rulers are settled.

Most of the companies don’t treat the wastes. They simply dump. And hurry to the bank. And the owners become billionaires. The state and Federal Environmental Protection Agencies sit and watch. They will get their dues. And the dues a much fatter if the rules are broken.

Wastes that are not buried in the ground are poured into the sea. Most of the waste management firms in the Niger Delta are strategically located by the sea. The trucks come in with waste in the afternoon. They wait for night fall. And pump them into the sea.

A truck driver once asked a friend of mine why a company had to make him drive such a long distance only to do what he could have helped them do without wasting his fuel, for a little fee.

But the drivers are made to come into the plants for a reason. Everyone is in the loop but the waste managers have to go through the motions. The oil companies inspect the treatment plants before giving service contracts. But the cost of treatment is high. And the installed capacities of the plants are too small to handle the waste that would be sent to them. The certification is all theoretical. The plants are a facade. The oil companies know.

The communities know the wastes are harmful. But they live for today. The politicians know the practice is dangerous. But they need the youths and the youths need the commissions. The drilling companies look away, they want the place quiet. If the wastes are treated then a lot of people will be denied their payoff. So everybody has a hand in the gang raping of the Niger Delta. They will not stop till she expires.

They know she will expire soon, at the rate they are trusting and thumping. They know the waters are becoming ‘fishless’ and the lands are being forced into early menopause. But no one cares about the delta and her tomorrow. Not the militants, that masquerade as freedom fighters. Not the elders, that moonlight as peacemakers. Nobody. Not the politicians and their short-sightedness. Nobody.

When the story of the Niger Delta is told in the next century, it could be a truly sorry tale.

Christianity Etc › Over 23 countries arrive Nazareth for TB Joshua’s meeting by KEVIND(op):
By Andrew Iro Okungbowa

The organisers and authorities in Israel have debunked the pockets of protestations making the rounds in Israel, saying that all is set for the two days event to begin today.
They described the protests as a stage managed mild protestations and as of no effect as Israel is engulfed by excitement and in expectation mood for the much anticipated open air meeting by Prophet T. B Joshua, Nigeria’s most followed prohpet across the world.
The two days meeting is set for Mount Precipice, with nationals from 23 countries already arrived for the programme, with more people being expected.
In Nazareth, the host city, most of the hotels, especially in the Old Nazareth, are fully booked and tour operators are kept busy ferrying pilgrims for the programme from the Ben Gurion International Airport to Nazareth.
Among the countries already in town are Holland, Jamaica, Cuba, Russia, Nigeria, Singapore, Japan, Spain, South Africa, the United Kingdom, Germany, Malawi, Zimbabwe, Canada, Botswana, Mexico, Argentina, Finland, Iceland, South Korea, Cameroun, Ghana and Italy. Organizers say nationals from more than 50 countries are expected at the event.
Speaking on the event, one of the tour operators ferrying pilgrims for the programme, Mrs Deborah Luca, an Israeli national, described the turnout so far as overwhelming. She said: “I did not know that there will be so many people coming. It is tremendous; it is beyond my expectation. I am a minister of worship, I bring people annually here in the past three years, we have our annual Art of Worship, what we are seeing here is better seen than described .”
Speaking on the Prophet TB Joshua meeting, a tour bus driver from Nazareth described the number of visitors as extremely impressive. His words: “The peak period for tourism in Nazareth is between July and August when the children are on vacation. What we are seeing is absolutely impressive for just one event.”

Judges Now Afraid To Perform Their Duties, Says NBA President

Paul Usoro, president of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), says judges in the country are afraid to perform their duties as expected due to fear and intimidation from the executive arm of government.

He spoke while delivering an address at the association’s national executive committee (NEC) meeting, which held at the NBA secretariat in Abuja, on Thursday.

Usoro also spoke about the high level of insecurity and poor state of the rule of law in the country.

He expressed worry over the “intimidation of judges by members of the executive arm and security operatives”, saying that judges now “operate under an oppressive and pervasive climate of fear and insecurity.”

“Our Jjudges are threatened, intimidated and blackmailed mostly by the executive arms of government and their agencies both at the federal and state levels,” he said.

“Our judges cannot deliver justice under a climate of fear and intimidation. Justice thrives where and when there is an independent judiciary. There can be no such independence when there is no security of tenure for our Judges. There can be no independence of the judiciary when our judges are intimidated, threatened and blackmailed by state agencies and their officials.

“There can be no independence of the judiciary when our judges are actively coerced by state officials to think and reason only in the manner that those officials and, presumably, government want them to think.”

The senior advocate of Nigeria also lamented over how some members of the association were victims of the high rate of insecurity in the country.

“My dear colleagues, as you would observe, I have given you three illustrative instances of the insecurity that pervades our land from the three NBA Nigerian Zones – East, West and North – and that, by itself, makes the point that no part of our country is safe,” he said.

“No region is safe, and no tribe is safe. No one indeed is safe. And yet, we have governments in place, at the federal, state and local government levels and the primary business of governments is the protection of lives and property. Indeed, without security of lives and property, everything else grinds to a halt.”

He called on the federal government to address the security challenges in the country and urged public officials to adhere to the rule of law.

Tb Joshua Is The World’s “most Powerful Minister” - American

An American personality has described Nigerian Pastor ‘T.B. Joshua’ as the ‘most powerful’ minister of God in the world.

Despite the fact that Joshua is still viewed with animosity and suspicion within the fold of much of Nigeria’s Christian leaders, the cleric continues to receive accolades and acclaim abroad.

“If you don’t know who T.B. Joshua is, you are missing out on the ministry of possibly the most powerful minister to this earth since the days of Jesus Christ,” wrote Leah Hanrahan, an American Christian, on Facebook.

Citing Jesus’ statement in John 14:12 that “greater works” awaited believers, Hanrahan, who lives in Michigan, asserted: “This is fulfilled here in TB Joshua’s ministry.”

The American’s sentiments are echoed in the turnout to the cleric’s foreign crusades, with national stadiums packed by excited locals at each destination he visits, primarily South America and Asia.

Most of Joshua’s weekly congregants are made up of foreigners whose pilgrimage to The Synagogue, Church Of All Nations (SCOAN) have made it the most visited destination for religious tourists in West Africa.

The popularity of Joshua’s videos online has resulted in Emmanuel TV becoming the world’s most viewed Christian television station on YouTube, with each video translated in multiple languages to reach his teeming followers overseas.

An Emmanuel TV event is scheduled to be held in the FlyDSA Arena in Sheffield, UK on June 1st 2019, a 12,000-seater venue usually reserved only for musical or sporting events, further highlighting Joshua’s popularity abroad.

Indeed, if ever the Biblical adage ‘a prophet is without honour in his own nation’ applied to an individual, the SCOAN Founder may be the apt case-study.

Politics › Don’t Use Force Against Boko Haram/insurgents, Borno Gov Begs Buhari by KEVIND(op): 8:34am On Jun 20, 2019
The Borno Governor, Babagana Zulum, has urged President Muhammadu Buhari to explore other options rather than the use of force against Boko Haram insurgents.

Zulum was reacting to Boko Haram fighters backed by the Islamic State West African Province earlier attack on least four Nigerian Army bases, raising concerns among the troops of the Operation Lafiya Dole in the North-East.

The army had lost a yet-to-be-ascertained number of soldiers when Boko Haram fighters attacked its bases in the Mobbar, Damasak, Monguno and Gajiram areas of Borno State.

Zulum, who met President Buhari on Wednesday, when asked if he was concerned that Boko Haram was no longer dealing with soft targets but attacking military bases, said: “You are aware that some incidents occurred two, three days ago where about 40 people were killed in Konduga. By and large, we are aware of steps the president is willing to take that will virtually bring that issue to a standstill.

“But most importantly, there is need for the Federal government to also open other opportunities of bringing down the crisis rather than the kinetic force. It is also important for those people who have been forced to join the insurgency; if they are integrated into the society, I think this will be good.

“There is an existing policy within the military called Operation Safe Corridor just to strengthen the system. By and large, we are optimistic that Borno State will bounce back again.”

Speaking on the purpose of the visit, the Borno Governor said: “I’m basically here to discuss with Mr. President on how possible the Federal government can strengthen the current security situation on ground as well as strengthen the means of livelihood of the entire people of Borno State.

“Basically, we want to address the root causes of the insurgency, especially the issue of access roads, access to farm lands and the issue of strengthening the Civilian JTF and the military to do their jobs better than before.

On the recent attacks in the state and what the government is doing to fight insecurity the governor said: “The issue of security is not one you discuss anyhow. But the government of the state is collaborating with the military and other security agencies to ensure that the citizens are well protected.
“On my part, I am also trying to strengthen the locals to be resilient enough especially by providing them with logistics like vehicles and others so that they can undertake some surveillance to support the military.
“By and large, our discussions with the military have gone well and we are doing everything possible to ensure that stability returns to Borno State.”
