The Northern Elders Forum has said that the North has never agitated for the breakup of the country, hence, it does not have any plan for it. This is just as a member of Northern Elders Forum (NEF), Hakeem Baba-Ahmed expressed disappointment in the leadership style of Northern peoples who hold various political offices in the country. Making the assertion on Monday, a former presidential candidate of the defunct National Republican Convention (NRC) party Bashir Othman Tofa, during the inauguration of students’ wing of Northern Youth Groups, organised by Coalition of Northern Youth held at Bayero University, Kano. According to him, “If you look at our population and what we have together is more than what anyone can hope for. So to try to destroy this is certainly a lose-lose situation. That is why we here in the North would never say we want to leave in this country. “ His words “If you examine the situation, you would find out it is only in Northern Nigeria that there is no agitation for the breakup of this country” He said that the unity of the country is sacrosanct, adding that the North has been playing the role of encouraging the unity of Nigeria “That is why we are the root of this country. If the root is uprooted, the tree will not be there. He then added that so we like to be patient, we like to encourage Nigerians to love their country to be united and tolerate one another. So that we can build a kind of country we like to build.” He then advised Northerners to exercise patience in building the unity of the country, as they are the root of Nigeria’s unity. It is Northern Nigeria that doesn’t have any specific plan of its own, in case Nigeria is divided. This means we have absolute confidence that being together is the best thing for all of us.” Our responsibility is to exercise patience to make sure we guide this country to the kind of unity and progress we need to develop into a better country and even become a nation-state,” Mr Tofa said. A member of Northern Elders Forum (NEF), Hakeem Baba-Ahmed expressed disappointment in the leadership style of Northern peoples who hold various political offices in the country. His words Northerners who hold different political positions had failed to address the region’s problems in areas considered to be of paramount importance for the region. “We are disappointed with our northern leaders at all levels. We will be putting pressure on them to correct their mistakes of tackling the problem of insecurity, poor quality of education and health, the problem of economy among others.” Alhaji Baba-Ahmed then charged northern governors to provide shelter for cattle headers in the zone to stop them from wondering about anyhow. However, on the occasion, three regional coordinators for Northwest, Northeast and Northcentral geopolitical zones were inaugurated during the event. https://tribuneonlineng.com/northern-elders-forum-kicks-against-nigerias-division/ |
For fear of a coup de tat, President Muhammadu Buhari, rescinded his move to sack the serving security chiefs last week, Pointblanknews.com authoritatively gathered. Presidency sources revealed that Buhari beat a retreat on his move to sack the military brass after members of his inner caucus cautioned him against it for fear that soldiers loyal to those in line to succeed the service chiefs are not too well known and might instigate a coup against him. The reluctance of the President to sack members of the military hierarchy is despite the allegations of massive illegal financial dealings they have been involved in under the guise of war against insurgency. Most of the Service Chiefs have continued to stay on despite reaching the mandatory retirement age in service. President Buhari had in July 2015 appointed new Service Chiefs and a National Security Adviser, after sacking their predecessors whom he worked with briefly after he won election in same year. The president appointed Major-General Abayomi Gabriel Olonishakin as Chief of Defence Staff; Major-General T.Y. Buratai as Chief of Army Staff; Rear Admiral Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas as Chief of Naval Staff; and Air Vice Marshal Sadique Abubakar as Chief of Air Staff. He also appointed Air Vice Marshal Monday Riku Morgan as Chief of Defence Intelligence; Retired Major-General Babagana Monguno as National Security Adviser. These service chiefs have continued to preside over the security architecture of the country, despite criticisms that the war against insurgency has lingered longer than the President promised it would end. This week, residents of Borno State had written to President Buhari informing him that Boko Haram insurgency has not been defeated. The letter which was signed by Hassan Boguma accused the military of not doing enough in the fight against insurgency, noting that Boko Haram terrorists now attack without any countermeasures from the military. However, Villa sources knowledgeable of Buhari’s backtracking on his plans to remove the service chiefs, said the president major fear is how he would establish the trust of new set of service chiefs. The sources added that the service chiefs have been exploiting the president’s dilemma by looting the treasury. “I hear PMB changed his mind about sacking the security chiefs last week because they are afraid of a coup. He is not sure of those to trust because he knows things are messed up,” a source said. The source added, “He is keeping the present security chiefs because they are ‘loyal’ and won’t trouble him. They are busy stealing so much money and want the situation to remain. If PMB removes them or tries to probe them, their boys may try to fight back.” It was further gathered that security reports to the president are often doctored such that when he is usually told that negative reports with regards to killings and kidnappings are PDP sponsored stories in the media. “They also tactically make sure he does not go to affected areas. They also ensure diplomats who want to see the president to discuss security issues are blocked. “It’s been ongoing in the last two weeks now. He told his inner caucus of his plans to remove the service chiefs but some advised against it because they don’t trust the ones who might take over and also fear because of the many security challenges in the country a coup might happen,” the source added. http://pointblanknews.com/pbn/exclusive/buhari-backtracks-on-sack-of-service-chief-over-coup-fear-security-reports-doctored-to-keep-president-uninformed/ |
Indications have emerged that the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Ibrahim Tanko Muhammad is desperately shopping for willing judges to handle the appeal of the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Atiku Abubakar in the Supreme Court. Three of the Appeal Court Justices: Justices Muhammed L. Garba, Abdu Aboki and Samuel Oseji, who sat at the Presidential Election petition tribunal that upheld Buhari’s election under controversial circumstances have been tipped among the Justices that are about to be hurriedly elevated to the Supreme Court. Documents obtained from the National Judicial Council of Nigeria dated September 18 2019 showed the names of the three judges already penciled down for interview into the Supreme Court. Others include Justices M. B. Dongbam -Mensem, Mohammed Garba (Chairman of the Court of Appeal Presidential Election Petition Tribunal), Emmanuel A. Agim, Biobele A. Georgewill and Helen M. Ogunwumiju. It was gathered that the NJC has fast tracked the date of interview from earlier scheduled date of October 18 to September 18. Presently, the seven most senior judges in the Supreme Court are: Justice Ibrahim Tanko Muhammad; Justice Bode Rhodes-Vivour; Justice Mary Odili and Justice Nwali Sylvester Ngwuta. Others are Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, Justice Musa Datijo Muhammad and Justice Kumai Bayang Akaahs. Meanwhile a Civil Society Organisation, Nigeria Centre for Justice and Rule of Law (NCJRL) has alleged plots to deviate from the tradition of using senior judges to handle Atiku’s appeal. NCJRL stated this in a statement signed by Dr James Adeoye and Barrister Yusuf Abdullahi, chairman and secretary, respectively. They declared that their investigation revealed that the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Ibrahim Tanko Muhammad is plotting to deviate from the tradition where the panel that hears presidential election petitions in the Supreme Court is made up of seven most senior judges in the apex court. The group further called on the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) and other civil society organisations to brace up to the challenge and ensure that the time-tested tradition where most senior judges in the Supreme Court are members of presidential election panel is not circumvented by the CJN. They also expressed reservation as to why the chairman of the Court of Appeal Presidential Election Petition Tribunal, Justice Mohammed Garba should be elevated so sudden to the apex court “if not to show gratitude for a job well done.” The statement read: “Our findings revealed that so far the CJN has tentatively pencilled down himself, Justice Rhodes-Vivor, Justice Baba Aji, Justice Inyang Okoro, Justice Cletus Nwaeze, Justice Musa Datijo and Justice Augie to hear Atiku’s petition that is expected to be filed next week. “We also reliably gathered that the CJN may replace some of these judges with some of the new judges President Muhammadu Buhari requested to be recruited in June, and that is the reason the NJC is in a hurry to interview the in-coming new judges.” While calling for strict adherence to laid down precedence, NCJRC said “the panel should be based on seniority as has been the tradition and any deviation from this will give credence to speculations in the public space that the CJN was brought into office to do a hatchet job. “Even if the CJN for any reason, which is subject to different interpretations, decides to deviate from the norm, the panel should represent the interest of the various geo-political zones in the country. “But this option of picking the panel to satisfy geo-political interest may be a bad precedent and certainly not good for posterity as the judiciary will be perceived as being politicised.” The Nigeria Centre for Justice and Rule of Law further stressed that the most worrisome of their findings is the plot to make new judges of the Supreme Court members of the Presidential Election Panel. “Is it right for green-horn judges that are just coming to the Supreme Court to be members of the panel when we have senior and more experienced judges in the Supreme Court? “We are aware they want to rush the interview of these new judges and send the list to President Muhammadu Buhari for onward transmission to the Senate for confirmation. Our present senate will expectedly rubber stamp the list and confirm them. “What is the motive behind the rush to bring in these new judges into the Supreme Court in the middle of crucial election petition?” The group called on the Nigerian Bar Association, NBA, and other civil society organisations to rise up and demand that the time-tested tradition where the most senior judges in the Supreme Court are members of presidential election panel is not tampered with by the CJN. http://pointblanknews.com/pbn/exclusive/pept-cjn-nominates-appeal-court-justices-who-upheld-buharis-election-to-supreme-court-ahead-of-judgement/

Aso Rock cabal shops for Osinbajo’s replacement, popular South-West pastor tops list. •VP may face corruption allegation From within Aso Rock, words got out on Friday that the powerful cabal around President Muhammadu Buhari has concluded on forcing embattled Vice President Yemi Osinbajo out of office. Despite the fog of uncertainty surrounding the fate of Osinbajo, nothing concrete is yet be traced to the president regarding the future of his deputy with whom he had shared a warm relationship since their joint victory in 2015. But the president’s men are said to be unrelenting in their pursuit of an agenda reportedly aimed at abruptly ending Osinbajo’s presidential sojourn. Amidst all these, the vice president, on Friday, in Ekiti State, accused insiders whom he described as fifth columnists of working against the interest of the government. In weeks ahead, one major battle Osinbajo may have to fight is preventing corruption tar from leeching on him as allegations of corrupt handling of government agencies under him may soon hit the airwaves. To a devastating effect, the administration has employed the anti-corruption campaign to uproot perceived enemies within the government. Apart from Walter Onnoghen who was sacked from office as the Chief Justice of Nigeria for alleged failure to declare five domiciliary accounts belonging to him in his asset declaration form, the immediate past Head of Service of the Federation, Mrs Winifred Oyo-Ita was also relieved of her position on Thursday over an alleged corruption probe. Aftermath her open clash with the powerful Chief of Staff, Abba Kyari, at the exco chamber in the Villa over the controversial return to office of fugitive Abdulrasheed Maina of the infamous Pensiongate, many within the system were counting days for her before being sent packing. It was also predicted that allegations of corruption would be used in getting rid of her. Both predictions came to pass and were accurate. Maina, a former chairman of the Presidential Task Force on Pension, who fled the country and was declared wanted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), was smuggled back into the country and into the civil service in October 2017, triggering a national outcry. On camera, an incensed Oyo-Ita was seen wagging her fingers in the face of an equally angry Kyari. Both eventually made up before the camera. With the sack of a former Director-General of the State Security Service (SSS), Lawal Daura, Kyari is believed to be the face of the presidency cabal, though two other powerful figures (names withheld) not in government are also said to call major shots. Search for replacement Beyond the drama of the past week within the presidency, which has seen Osinbajo in the eye of the storm regarding his continued relevance in the administration’s second term in office, Saturday Tribune was informed by a well-placed Villa source that names were already coming up as possible replacement for the vice president. Topping the list of those being considered is said to be a popular pastor for what is deemed an appropriate replacement and balancing. Osinbajo, aside from being a Christian, is a pastor of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) and an ally of the denomination’s influential general overseer, Pastor Enoch Adeboye. Although other names are reportedly being bandied as his possible replacement, the said pastor appears to fulfill all the requirements, being also a Christian, a popular pastor and equally from the south-western part of the country like the vice president. It was further learnt that those who want to see the back of Osinbajo are considering two major exit strategies: either his forceful resignation or impeachment through the National Assembly. https://tribuneonlineng.com/aso-rock-cabal-shops-for-osinbajos-replacement- |

Femi Falani, a senior advocate of Nigeria (SAN), has condemned the clampdown on Sahara Reporters, a publication founded by Omoyele Sowore, and the invasion of the premises of the Committee for the Defence of Human Rights (CDHR) where a pro-Sowore protest was scheduled to take place on Wednesday. In a coordinated exercise, security operatives laid siege to the offices of Sahara Reporters and the CDHR in Lagos. Sowore, candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC) in the 2019 presidential election, was in August arrested by the Department of State Services (DSS) who accused him of threatening the public peace with his planned nationwide #RevolutionNow protest. The DSS was subsequently granted an order to detain him for 45 days. In a statement on Wednesday, Falana, who is Sowore’s counsel, condemned the detention of his client and a few others. “Contrary to the order of the federal high court that Mr. Sowore be detained for 45 days, the State Security Service has incarcerated him for 47 days,” he said. “Last week, the federal high court turned down the application for the renewal of its order for the detention of Messrs Agba Jalingo and Ekanem Ekpo for 14 days. In spite of the expiration of the detention order of the two journalists they are being held by the Police in Cross River. Mr. Abayomi Olawale who was arrested on August 5, 2019 has been detained for 45 days by the State Security Service without any court order whatsoever. These detainees and scores of others languishing in illegal custody ought to be released forthwith. “While congratulating the organisers of the symposium for successfully holding the programme at another venue, the harassment of law -abiding citizens cannot be tolerated under a regime that is busy negotiating with bandits and terrorists, bribing them with public funds and granting them amnesty.” https://www.thecable.ng/buharis-govt-bribes-bandits-but-harasses-law-abiding-citizens-says-falana/amp?__twitter_impression=true

By Farooq A. Kperogi, Ph.D. Twitter:@farooqkperogi The Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal’s tendentious and predictably predetermined judgement on September 11 that upheld Muhammadu Buhari’s electoral fraud was not such much a defeat of Atiku Abubakar as it was symbolic judicial violence on Nigeria and Nigerians. As I pointed out in my April 20, 2019 column titled “Atiku’s Citizenship and Buhari’s Illiterate Lawyers,” Buhari assembled unbelievably ignorant and rhetorically impotent lawyers to defend him, not only because he loves to mirror his trademark incompetence in everything he does, but also because he knew that there was nothing at stake for him in the petition since the tribunal’s ruling was a foregone conclusion, as I pointed out in a social media post titled “WhyAtiku Isn’T Coming” a day before the tribunal’s verdict. The tribunal judges, who were supposed to be neutral arbiters, were infinitely more effective defenders of Buhari’s stolen mandate than his own lawyers were. Imagine the severity of ignorance it must take for any Nigerian to make the case that someone born in the former British Northern Cameroon (and whose immediate ancestral provenance is traceable to the nucleus of the defunct Sokoto Caliphate) is not a Nigerian citizen even when the constitution explicitly confers citizenship on people that were born in British Northern Cameroon. Even the unambiguously partisan tribunal chose to not touch such sophomoric legal and constitutional illiteracy with a barge pole. It dismissed it. That says a lot. Nevertheless, there are many fundamental respects in which the tribunal’s ruling has wounded the very soul of Nigeria. When (not “if” because this is all prearranged) the tribunal’s verdict is upheld by the Supreme Court, it would mean that barefaced electoral fraud perpetrated through the arbitrary manufacture of fanciful figures for an incumbent office holder, intimidation of voters with the aid of the nation’s security apparatuses, and all the other unmentionably unconscionable electoral malfeasance Buhari perpetrated to hold on to power are now entirely legitimate. The implications of this are many and varied. For one, it has destroyed the vaguest vestige of hope that democracy will grow and thrive in Nigeria. It will inaugurate unexampled voter apathy in the future since voting no longer matters. Buhari’s predecessors also did rig elections, to be sure, but they rigged elections that they would have handily won because they had no opposition. Buhari was the serial opponent of his predecessors, but until 2015, he never even campaigned for votes outside the Hausaphone Muslim North (he routinely ignored even predominantly Muslim Kwara and Kogi states and, of course, snubbed the entire Christian North), so he couldn’t have conceivably won a national election with such an insular focus. Even Nasir El-Rufai described Buhari in an October 4, 2010 article titled “Buhari Should Stick To Facts” as “perpetually unelectable because [of] his record as military head of state and [his] insensitivity to Nigeria’s diversity and his parochial focus.” Perhaps the most distressing implication of the tribunal’s ruling is that education and even a pretense to honesty will no longer matter. Buhari’s claim to possessing a school certificate is supported only by an affidavit in his INEC forms, which turned out to be false. That’s a prima facie case of perjury. He could very well have truly sat for his school certificate exam and received proof of this. But that is not the issue. He consistently swore under oath that his school certificate was in the custody of the Nigerian military. It has now come to light that this is entirely false. The tribunal said this lie is immaterial. This doesn’t just legally endorse official mendacity, it also disincentivizes education. It means any Nigerian can claim to possess any qualification, and the only evidence that would be required for such claims would be a mere affidavit. That’s why Nigerian social media is now suffused with transgressively humorous affidavit-supported claimants to all sorts of bogus qualifications. The most humorous yet instructive I have read so far is from someone by the name of Osaze Jesuorobo. He wrote: “First, I have a sworn affidavit stating that I have the required qualifications to… be admitted into… Law School and that my credentials are with the Director of Administration of NTA, the establishment I retired from. “Secondly, I have a recommendation from the Vice Chancellor of the university I attended, the University of Benin that I WILL PASS the final Bachelor of Law degree with a Second Class Upper. “Thirdly, since my records at NTA show that I have a Bachelor of Law degree, I will present a statement from NTA Director of Corporate Affairs to the effect that from their records, I have a Bachelor of Law degree and was educated to university level even though the original, CTC or photocopies of my credentials are not in their possession. “If the Law School requests... the originals and copies of my credentials, I will tell them that there is nowhere in the 1999 Constitution (as Amended) that says I must accompany my admission forms with copies of my credentials. I will also tell them that their condition that I should attach copies of my credentials is a subsidiary condition inferior to the Nigeria Constitution. “If the Nigeria Law School denies me admission for not producing the credentials to back up my qualifications claim, I will sue the Law School relying on the Atiku/PDP vs INEC & others (2019) per Garba Mohammed (or is it Muhammad or Muhammadu), JCA. I am waiting for the Nigeria Law School to dare me by refusing me admission.” This reminds me of a community college president in California who sent out a mass email to the academic and non-academic staff of his school demanding that he henceforth be addressed as a “Dr.” because some nondescript university in the middle of nowhere awarded him a pay-to-play honorary doctorate. The response of the staff was as sarcastic as it was hilarious. Staff of the community college, most of whom didn’t have PhDs, decided to also prefix “Dr.” to their names; they said they too had been awarded doctoral degrees by some no-name university. The president got the message and dropped his title. But Nigeria’s situation is graver. Buhari will get away with his subversion of law and decency, and the damage to the nation will be irreversible. Related to this is the controversy relating to the spelling of Buhari’s first name. The tribunal was reported to have said, “The question about whether the name in the certificate is ‘Mohamed’ or ‘Muhammadu’ doesn’t matter so long as the name Buhari is attached to the name.” That’s a dangerously ignorant thing to aver. A more acceptable statement would have been for the tribunal to say “Mohamed” and “Muhammadu” are different spellings/renderings of the same name. Every time you use a different orthography to spell a name that was originally written in a different orthographic tradition, you often have several variants. Names originally written in Latin alphabets also have different variants when they are written using different scripts such as Arabic, Cyrillic, Chinese, Thai, etc. I can relate to this. I insist on my name being spelled as “Farooq,” but my primary school headmaster spelled it as “Faruk” in my school leaving certificate. Again, to my utter annoyance, Bayero University spelled my name as “Farouk” on my certificate but, mercifully, my transcript has my preferred spelling. So this isn’t unusual. Buhari obviously prefers to spell his name as “Muhammadu.” Even in 1961 when he applied for the Nigerian military’s qualifying exam, he spelled it that way. Nevertheless, his principal, who was a white man, spelled his name as “Mohamed” in his recommendation letter to the military on Buhari’s behalf. It was obviously the principal’s variant that went into the official school records. The tribunal, being the gaggle of incompetent and compromised partisans that they are, couldn’t defend their benefactor on an issue as simple as variants of the spelling of his name. Buhari shot democracy in 1983 with bullets and left it for dead. But it managed to survive his attempted murder after a prolonged convalescence. Then he came back in 2019 to finally kill it with rigged, poisoned ballots. But when the story of Buhari’s premeditated murder of Nigeria’s democracy is written, the role the judiciary played in endorsing and legalizing it will take up reams of paper or disproportionately large nibbles of bytes. https://www.farooqkperogi.com/2019/09/buhari-didnt-defeat-atiku-judiciary.html?m=1#.XXxdiWMnAPo.twitter |

President Muhammadu Buhari has called on Nigerians not to re-elect governors who failed in their first terms, especially those who failed to pay civil servants salaries even after collecting bailouts from the federal government. Mr Buhari, who spoke with the Hausa service of the Voice of America, which was aired Tuesday morning, said he saw no justification in governors collecting bailout funds from the federal government and still failing to pay wages. The president was quoted as saying, “I wonder how these governors are able to sleep knowing that they have refused to pay workers their wages “These workers have families to cater for, they pay rent, pay school fees, Hospital bills and food for their families.” Mr Buhari said the Nigerian Constitution gives governors the independence to spend their funds without interference and that is why some are abusing that privilege by refusing to work for the people. https://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/top-news/304701-2019-dont-re-elect-governors-who-failed-to-pay-salaries-buhari-tells-nigerians.

When people objected to the appointment of Mrs. Amina Zakari as head of INEC’s committee that would be in charge of the “secretariat for collation of results” of the last presidential election, both the presidency and Zakari lied that Buhari and Zakari had no family relationship until I exploded their duplicitous mendacity in a January 5, 2019 update. (I’ll come to that shortly). Well, many people don’t seem to notice that Buhari has compensated Mrs. Zakari for helping him to rig the 2019 election; He appointed her biological son by the name of Ahmed Rufa'i Zakari as his new Special Adviser on Infrastructure, a pointless, previously non-existent position specifically created to pay back Mrs. Zakari. Mr. Zakari holds the traditional title of San Turakin Kazaure. Buhari also reappointed Mrs. Zakari’s brother, Suleiman Hussaini Adamu, as Minister of Water Resources. Adamu and Mrs. Zakari are full siblings, i.e., they share the same father and mother. They are the children of Alhaji Hussaini Adamu (who was emir of Kazaure) and Hajia Hafsatu Hussaini Adamu. The current emir of Kazaure, Alhaji Najib Hussaini Adamu, is their older brother with whom they’re also full siblings. The immediate past commissioner of education in Jigawa State, Mrs. Rabih Eshaq, is also their younger sister (again, same father, same mother.) So the same family basically monopolizes political appointments in the state. And it’s all due to their Buhari/Daura connections. Their mother, Hajiya Hafsatu, is the daughter of Alhaji Jibril Daura, a Daura native. More than that, though, Buhari’s biological sister was once married to Mrs. Zakari’s father. That makes her Buhari’s niece. The Oxford Dictionary defines a niece as, “A daughter of one's brother or sister, or of one's brother-in-law or sister-in-law.” Mrs. Zakari’s father was Buhari’s brother-in-law. But that’s not all. As I pointed out in my Jan. 5, 2019 update, at some point in his youth, Buhari, who lost his father at a young age, came under the guardianship of Mrs. Zakari’s father, the late Alhaji Hussaini Adamu. Buhari continues to nurture his relationship with the Hussaini Adamu family. When he was PTF boss, for instance, he got Mrs. Zakari a consultancy contract with Afri-Projects Consortium (APC), “the sole manager of the PTF projects.” When Goodluck Jonathan asked Buhari for a candidate for INEC commissionership, he nominated Mrs. Zakari. In my update, I said, “This fact, as I pointed out in my Saturday Tribune column, isn’t enough to vitiate her neutrality. After all, Jonathan defeated Buhari in 2011 while she was INEC commissioner. But deceiving the world by concealing the nature and depth of her relationship with Buhari shows that she’s up to no good this time around.” My predictions materialized. The appointment of Mrs. Zakari’s son to an utterly purposeless position isn’t just a reward for her help in perpetrating unexampled electoral fraud on Buhari’s behalf; it’s also a continuation of Buhari’s trademarked bald-faced nepotism. The determination of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) to ensure the restoration of the defunct Republic of Biafra seemed to be gaining momentum, as the son of former Biafran Chief of General Staff, Late Philip Effiong, has come out to team up with Nnamdi Kanu to ensure the realization of Biafra. IPOB spokesman, Comrade Emma Powerful, in a statement on Thursday and made available to Daily Independent in Abakaliki said that Mr. Philip Efiiong Jr had arrived London on Wednesday morning to participate in IPOB United Kingdom Genocide Exhibition slated to hold on 16th and 17th of August 2019. Powerful explained further that the meeting would hold at Goldsmiths University, London. “Philip Effiong Jnr, the son of Late General Philip Effiong, arrived in London very early this morning for IPOB UK Genocide Exhibition on 16th/17th August. The event holds at Goldsmiths University London,” the IPOB spokesman said. Daily Independent reports that late General Effiong, who hailed from Akwa-Ibom State, was the second in Command to Odumegwu Ojukwu in the defunct Republic of Biafra. He was at a point the acting head of the Republic of Biafra when Ojukwu and his family left Biafra shortly before the end of the war. He was the man who made the official declaration of Biafra’s surrender on 15th January 1970 before the Nigeria military government at Dodan Barracks in Lagos. In declaring the official surrender of the people of Biafra, General Effiong had said there was need to stop the bloodshed and the hardship going on in Biafra. https://www.independent.ng/philip-effiong-resurrects-joins-ipob/amp/ |
