When Abacha created Ebonyi state, he should have created Njaba state between Imo and Anambra states.

Njaba state as proposed is a hundred times more viable than Ebonyi state.

Instead, Abacha created a seventh state in the NW.

This is part of the political inequality rocking Nigeria.

As for the deep seaport, I pray Gov Udom is able to convince his Colleagues in their SS/SE governors meeting on the need to support Ibom deep seaport. Even if it means raising funds from Diaspora and Chinese.

We can then build both rail lines and more Roads network connecting whole of SE & SS( especially Akwa Ibom)

I believe the investment maths will be attractive for foreign investors, Diaspora Nigerians and Nigerians living here.
Deep Sea port in Akwa Ibom to be financed by the eastern states? That would be very good.

But note that there may be more of such old people like Obong Victor Attah in Akwa Ibom state who would rather not wish any thing of such importance connecting Akwa Ibom and Igbo.

Sir,doesnt it sound odd for the north thats 3 times bigger than the south to have less number of states than the south? Upon all the monies given to the north, cant u see that they are far mor underdeveloped and poorer than the south? Dont you realize that the niger delta states get the highest share from the federaation account but have misused it? The defunct northeen region was never balkanized because it was more united as one region unlike the south that has 3 disunited regions.
Did you not read me write that land mass is never used as a criterion to divide a country onto states or regions or local government councils?

The northern part of Russia is nearly half of the Russian federation by land mass, but that northern Russia does not have up to 1/5 of Russia's political units, like regions or states, and representatives in Russia's Parliament.

Nigeria's states should have been created based on near equal proportions between then three regions -north, southeast and southwest - that entered into independent Nigeria in 1960.

The country was obviously built on lies right from day one. What a shame, its either total resource control or balkanization. Thank God for Nnamdi Kanu, OUR MUMU DON DO!!
Behind the population scandal is sharing national revenues in a most increasing unitary government system.

The British studied Nigeria well and granted independence for Nigeria for three regions.

Between 1967 to 1996, Hausa/Fulani used its military dictators and created 20 new federal units - 19 states and Abuja - plus hundreds of local government areas in the one northern region.
But they created only 17 new states and far less number of local government councils in the once two southern regions.

Mathematically, 1 yielded 20 states; while 2 yielded 17 states.

This is the most huge fraud about Nigeria, because land mass is never used as a criterion to create new states or regions or local government areas in a federal country where diverse regions came together to form one country.

There should have been more states and local government councils in the two southern regions, than in the one northern region today.

Three senators come from each state, according to the constitution also supervised by the same northern military dictators.

Therefore, from the 20 states in the north, an emergent northern super-political class draws undue political over-representation to all aspects of the country's political process, including at the National Assembly, to determine what can be where and who can be what in Nigeria's political process.

Through the large number of states and local government councils in the north, more than large quantities of the country's shared revenues and development projects go to the north.

This ugly situation has been endured for about forty years by the shortchanged southern groups; it's no more tolerable.

The north-south divide has remained salient; there is still an unwritten rule that the presidency should alternate between a northerner and a southerner. Allegations that the north has manipulated its way to a majority continue. The censuses of 1973 and 1991 were annulled. In 2006 arguments flared when 9.4m people were counted in the northern state of Kano, compared with just 9m in Lagos, the commercial capital. The Lagos state government conducted its own, technically illegal, census and came up with 17.5m (probably a vast overestimate). A new national census has been repeatedly delayed. It is now scheduled for 2018, but the NPC’s estimate that it will “gulp” 223bn naira ($708m) may mean the count is put off indefinitely.

Even by other methods, Nigeria’s population has proven tricky to pin down. Africapolis, a French-funded research project, used satellite mapping to estimate the population of towns and cities in 2010. It found several cities, mostly in the north, had hundreds of thousands fewer people than the 2006 census counted. But even those data are not entirely trustworthy: it later transpired that the researchers had underestimated urbanisation in the densely populated Niger delta. Until there is an accurate, impartial census it will be impossible to know just how many Nigerians there really are. That means government policy will not be fully anchored in reality and it will not be possible to send resources where they are most needed.

https://www.economist.com/blogs/economist-explains/2017/06/economist-explains-6?zid=304&ah=e5690753dc78ce91909083042ad12e30
The densely populated Niger delta area is deprived of development resources because its population is ever under counted.

Again, this Niger delta area produces the oil revenues that stand Nigeria.

For a most recent example, Nigeria built the first-ever standard gauge rail lines costing $1.059 billion in the arid and less populated north, while people in the Niger delta travel in 19th Century canoes and on the worst roads in Nigeria.

From this north, an exodus of southerners was made to the south by Boko Haram violence and unfriendly environment of Sharia criminal laws.

These are the contradictions and injustices in Nigeria that cry to high heavens for remedy.

Boko Haram is fighting for a country in the north to be governed with Islamic Sharia Criminal laws.

Boko Haram emerged shortly after the 12 northern Nigeria states adopted Islamic Sharia Criminal codes.

There are millions of Muslims in northern Nigeria who share same objectives with Boko Haram fighters.

Soldiers, use your tongue to count your teeth before embarking on a futile fight.

Pacotdc:
Group kicks, says talks deceptive, hypocritical

The All progressives Congress (APC) has adduced the need to fix the nagging problems of insecurity and the recession as reasons for the delay in restructuring the country as outlined in the party’s manifesto.

APC’s National Publicity Secretary, Malam Bolaji Abdullahi, yesterday in a chat with The Guardian, faulted claims that the party was playing politics with the issue, said the issue of restructuring the country may not be placed on the front burner before 2019.

According to him: “My own take is that every government has its own priority and you will agree with me that if you have to deal with the issue of Boko Haram or you need to deal with the issue of the economy that has gone into recession and all that, you have to get your priorities right. I don’t think it would be a wise move to add the challenges of restructuring if you have not dealt with the problems that affect the average Nigerian.

“So when people are hungry, when people are losing jobs, when people’s salaries are not being paid I think any responsible government would consider this to be a priority even while it still believes in the restructuring of the country.

“The issue of restructuring is never a gimmick. It is in the manifesto of our party. How can that be a gimmick? That is why I said that the fact that it has not been done does not mean that it would not be done.’’

Meanwhile, former Vice President and chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Atiku Abubakar, has lauded former military president Ibrahim Babangida for throwing his weight behind calls for the restructuring of Nigeria.

In a statement yesterday, he also commended the recent resolution of the APC Progressive Governors Forum and several well-meaning Nigerians who stressed the need to restructure and entrench true federalism in the polity.

Saying that the issue transcends religion and ethnicity, he noted that the convergence of positions by leaders and stakeholders from diverse regions of the country on the issue speak volume of the need to ensure good governance in the polity.

He explained that the agitations for secession would not have arisen if the country had shown sincere readiness to address the underlying problems that feed the agitations by separatist forces.

However, the national chairman of the Labour Party (LP), Alhaji Abdulsalam Abdulkadir, believes that those at the forefront of the calls to restructure the country were using it to score political goals.

Blaming the ruling elites for using the agenda to hoodwink the gullible populace to further their selfish desires, he challenged restructuring proponents to come out with a blueprint on how to achieve the goal.

If you look at the issue of fiscal federalism, are we going back to the old three of four regions or are we going to use the present six geo-political zones to achieve it? If we are to use the present six geo-political zone, take one of the zones for instance, which of the states of any of the zones would agree to merge with one another.

Also, the United Action for Democracy (UAD), a non-governmental and human rights group has kicked against the notion to restructure Nigeria as agitated for by some citizens of the country.

UAD yesterday at a press conference, moved against the pro-separatist agitation of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and the purportedly quit notice by the northern youths.

According to the convener of the group, Gabriel Ojumah, “Nigeria has moved from regional government to federal system of government yet things are not working right: what we need is not a geo-political restructuring but a change in the ruling class of the country.”

Ojumah reiterated that, “should Nigeria divide today, the known cabals in the leadership of the country will continue ruling in the various parts of the country hence we still come back to square one.” He added that the masses should be united in the front to change the current social order and exploitative ruling class in the country.

https://m.guardian.ng/news/apc-explains-delay-in-restructuring-nigeria-as-atiku-lauds-ibb/
But the issues of Boko Haram and Economic Recession should have hastened the political restructuring of Nigeria, instead of delaying it.

The Chairman of Dangote Group, Alhaji Aliko Dangote has reacted to the quit notice issued to Igbos by a coalition of northern youths.

The Arewa groups had asked South-easterners living in the north to vacate before October 1.

Giving his position on the issue which has drawn condemnation from many groups and individuals, the billionaire said joblessness was the reason for the ultimatum.

Dangote said this when a team of business executives from Lagos Business School (LBS), visited his multi-billion dollars refinery and petrochemical projects in Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos.

“Some guys who have no relevance and values came out to issue a warning that Igbo should leave the North.

‘I am surprised everybody started talking about this nonsense. Why are we talking about it?

“Obviously, in a place where there is a lot of joblessness, it is expected that this kind of jobless people would come out with all sorts of anger.

“We understand the reasons why they are angry, but they cannot justify their action when they have decided not to work.

“They only issue senseless warning to keep themselves relevant,” Nation quoted him.

Africa’s richest man assured that his refinery project, when completed, would create thousands of direct jobs for the youths and millions of indirect jobs in the value chain.

For decades since it was started, northern Nigeria politicians have been kicking against the payment of 13% from derivation to oil producing states.
The northern politicians complain that payment of 13% makes some states richer than others.

But for heightened agitation for Biafra, these northern politicians could have heightened their agitation for 13% from derivation be upturned. And quashing the 13% payment could have been easiest under a most pro-north 97% and 5% president like Buhari.

Agitation for Biafra has made the song of political restructuring a chorus for people who once objected to political restructuring. But what and how are we going to restructure to get an egalitarian society in Nigeria? Difficult, if not impossible.

Any one from the SE or SS objecting to restoration of Biafra, is the person not a most Ill-informed, or one only after his/her personal political fortune in one Nigeria?
