So you also think Maradona exploits at Napoli is greater than Messi's in Barca??

Your coach Lampard said "I watched Maradona while growing up but for me, Messi is the greatest ever"
All I can tell you is I enjoy a good discuss and spillo has given detailed explanation twice on his opinion which I haven't seen from any of the Barca fans here. All I see are insults nothing tangible.

What Maradona did with Napoli Trumps anything Messi had done with Barcelona and that's the fact. Nobody is saying he took 10woods to win trophies but the team was average and filled with few exciting players. Let me add context.

Serie A at that time was dominant by the north in Juventus, AC Milan and Internazionale. Teams from South of the Italian Peninsula had ever won the Scudetto.

The first season of Maradona at Naples wasn´t disappointing from his side. Maradona had 14 goals, but Maradona didn´t like the coach because the team wasn´t built around him, which ended with Ferlaino firing Rino Marchesi (coach at the time). The replacement had to be approved by Maradona. Maradona was demanding the team to be built around him, which Ottavio  want to do and was appointed. The only interesting players Napoli had were Ciro Ferrera, Bruscolotti and an older Bertoni. Ciro Ferrera was the biggest name talent-wise on the Napoli team.
Bianchi played a 4-1-2-1-2 formation without wingers in the midfield. This formation was to make it as easiest as possible to pass the ball to Maradona. The second season of Maradona was much better with a new coach and new structure. Napoli ended 3rd this season. Napoli were already seen as one of the favourites going Into the 3rd season to win the league with a maradonna fresh from leading Argentina to the world cup. Napoli was an average team without Diego Maradona and that´s just a fact in 1986-87. Overall there were better teams than Napoli in the league. Inter, Juventus,Roma,AC Milan and even Verona had better teams. For the next 4 seasons before he was banned he led Napoli to 2 league titles, Two 2nd place finishes, Copa italia and Cup winners cup. What has Messi done at Barca that trumps that? Taking an average side to dominate not once but in 4/5 seasons against better teams and filled with better players.
I see you have been busy here spillo educating People.

We are the third best team in the big six and it’s not even close, and I can’t stress how much I didn’t think that would even be a possibility at the start of the season. We have conceded 16 goals so far. We have a long way to go. Today really sums up our positives and negatives.

In truth I think Fergie did spend money to an extent. The likes of Hughes, Pallister, Keane & Cole were seen as massive transfer outlays at the time. If memory serves Pallister was the British record paid for a defender . Keane was the record for a midfielder and Cole broke the transfer record by nearly 30%.

Using point tally is flawed. They were not competeting against each other. Even at that
In 2012-13 season we had 77 points in 30 games before getting complacent and that was with players like Cleverley, Welbeck, past it Rio, Vidic, Evra in the side. One thing you have got to realize is that when Jose came and took the Premier league by storm, Fergie waited patiently and developed a team that eventually upended them. There is nothing to suggest that Fergie wouldn't have been able to do the same now to take on Pep. There was never a challenge that he didn't rise to
This isn't the first time the scope of the premier league has changed. By the was his United team of 2007/2008 is the best in this premier league era.
Mourinho Chelsea of 04/06 is undoubtedly the best of this premier league Era.

Liverpool will definitely win the league during Klopp tenure atleast once but after that his collapse will be worst than that of Dortmund.

One Wikipedia analyst here... LMFAO. Ignorant posters.

Here is Mourinho on De Lima just few days ago.

"However, if we are talking strictly about talent and skill, nobody surpasses Ronaldo [Nazario].
"When he was at Barcelona with Bobby Robson, I realized that he was the best player I'd ever seen take to the field.

"Injuries killed a career that could have been even more incredible, but the talent that that 19-year-old boy had was something incredible.

You know matured men by their opinion.
People tend to overstate Ronaldinho abilities because of his uniquely exaggerated futsal-inspired style with tricks and flicks (which often made him look sexier on the ball than others who could do the same in a much more efficient way) and happy-go-lucky nature. Anybody that says he is more talented than fat ronaldo is either clueless or just being mischievous.

Lol prime Maradonna and de Lima will piss all over this era.

The Serie A of the 80's and 90's was like watching teeth being pulled unless you were being treated to a proper, top class attacker or forward because the defenses were so good, tactical and cynical, that nothing but the top brass could get any change out of them.

Batistusta, Baggio, Del Piero and so forth had it really hard and it was a genuine acheivement for a lone player to outfox such a collection of mean, hard-nosed defenders who played every game like their life depended on it. Ask kimbeast or any person who watched Seria a then.

That's why when Ronaldo went there and ripped the piss out of the league it caused an absolute uproar. Before he got there all the defenders and football experts were saying he'd not be the same player in Italy as he was in Spain because he wouldn't be allowed to play in the same manner. They were right. He was even better in Italy than he was in Spain because he became a playmaker and link man as well as the goal-scorer, whilst in Spain, it was all about giving Ronaldo the ball and watching him run to goal and convert. Do you research on why Maradonna is called a demi god in Naples.

The likes of Van Basten and Gullit were booted and kicked so frequently in Serie A that it forced early retirement for Van basten who retired 29 and caused Gullit to have countless time out with one injury or another. It was a mean, hard-nosed league. Doing the business there carried more merit than any other league.

The late 80's and 90's Serie A may have had the biggest concentration of imported, world-class talent a league has ever seen. It was the place to be if you wanted to make your mark and sides in Spain and England had to do a lot more AND beat at least a couple of Italian teams to be taken seriously.
When United beat Juventus of the mid 90's, who were seen as the best side in the world, it catapulted us to a completely new level of world renown and global recognition as a footballing force. It announced us as big time player again.

If the likes of Shearer and Bergkamp had done what they did in Italy rather than England at that time they'd be held in much higher regard now than just good players.

Ronaldo going there and shaking that league to the core was like something out of a science fiction flick. Maradonna at Napoli also. Before and after Maradonna Napoli are shitts. If you think these O.G's won't rip apart this silly era I nothing to say to you.
You didn't even reference the " The butcher of Bilbao" incident. wink

I called them “German Machines“. That season was played with absolute desire amd hunger. They wanted to win it all and had all neccesary tools to do so. What you are saying about that team is fallacy.

They were excellent and efficient in every aspect of their game. Could play any kind of game whether it was possession-based, counter-attacking, low block, high press, narrow or wide.

They turned the allianz arena into a slaughter house both locally and continentally that season.
If ever there was one example of when anger drove a team, that bayern would be it.

Pep ruined that generation.
In seriousness, that team underacheived tremendously by winning only one Champions league from 2011 till now, should've won atleast 2-3. I don't think Pep's coaching style suited them.

The best midfielders winning everything in sight.

The kind of revisionist nonsense I read here daily because Pep is involved.
Xavi and iniesta were always destined for greatness given their technical level and perception of space and ability to always make the right decisions. Guardiola was the catalyst that helped them reach a level that was close to their absolute best - a bit like Sacchi for a lot of the great players at Milan in the late '80s and early '90s. Xavi and Iniesta's ability was always there, but Guardiola added an extra dimension to their career in terms of crystallizing their ability by crafting perfect and complementary roles for both of them.

The went through out the knock out stage conceding 0 goal and went all though unbeaten. Only someone who didn't watch euros 08 will say Spain wasn't dominate. The two tournament Spain dominated are both Euros8 & 12.

The bolded is absolute ridiculous and exposes you more as a Wikipedia expert. You spew rubbish with confidence . Where did you get those rubbish from? Barca didn't win at bernabeu for straight seven seasons until Ronaldinho came and in his first season Barca won with him providing an assist to xavi. In his 2nd match at bernabeu he completely destroyed Madrid Singlehandedly. It was Ronaldinho/Rijkaard era that ushered in Barca dominace and tip the scale of El classico not any Pep. Go and sit down
Marcos Senna was the heartbeat of that Euro 2008 team . Xavi was pretty great, not as great as Senna even though he won player of the tournament. Senna was the engine and centre of all passing plays.
Iniesta was just a passenger till the semi Final

Ranieri killed them the second time around with the wave of underwhelming Italian signings plus the demise of Vicente, Baraja, Mista also played a part. Valencia was the biggest rival for real madrid in the peak of galactico era. When Benitez was an OG. El Clasico had its poisonous atmosphere, especially due to the Figo transfer and all , but Valencia was the big dog.

The plug was going to be pulled if we lost to Genoa but Reina saved Giampaolo that day. L. Spalletti is the number one choice but he would have to figure out his settlement issue with Inter before he can sign with anyone. Spalletti is a very experienced Serie A coach especially with top Serie A sides but, to be honest, he is not my preference because I have watched his sides. His sides did not score much but they were very good defensively and compact in the middle. If you consider our current roster, I don't think he can be worse than Giampaolo. Hopefully, he can stabilize our defense and provide some balance to our midfield. @Chic2pimp, remember I told you I would rather we let Giampaolo go especially if there are no assurances he will remain with us after this season. I am not a fan of R. Garcia, he was not impressive at Marseille and his sides leaked ton of goals. Ranieri would be too conservative for me, the same as Pioli. The club is looking to stabilize and steady the ship with this hire, nothing long term. I would be shocked if anyone is offered more than 2 years.
They may meet half way on his severance payment. Inter agrees to give him a severance for the rest of the year(7 months left) and forgoes the 2nd year. Win win for all parties.

The performances of Milan in the first 7 games is horrific . No attacking plan and certain players like Piatek or Calabria severely under-perform under Giampaolo.
Milan are last in shots on goal in all of Serie A after seven games, and have the second worst attack with only three goals from open play.

Spalletti is a good coach when it comes to grinding out results, but it won't be pretty, prepare your nerves lol. But he also got Champions League football with both Roma and Inter four times in a row and even finished second with the former on 87 points. Considering Milan need to get Champions League football, it would be a very good appointment.

@Roland17 & chic2pimp have you seen reports that Milan have decided to sack Giampaolo. The first choice name for his replacement is Spalletti. The other alternatives are Garcia, Pioli and Ranieri. I knew Giampaolo won't last the full season. Spalletti is More than capable.

Kimbeast:
Giampaolo won't last the full season You have regressed in every aspect so far compared to last season. 1 goal in open play in 5 games tells you all you need to know. Gattuso did an amazing job with the team he had last year. The team didnt look great but it worked. Instead with giampaolo Milan seems lost. Was replacing gattuso really a wise decision.
