Car sometimes jerks before changing gear from 1 to 2 and 2 to 3.

And it doesn't enter gear 4.

You need to carry out physical checks on the wiring on the transmission. There are two sensors on top the transmission and it has two wires each which plugs into the sensors via sockets. Have a multimeter and read the conductivity of the wires. If it registers, it’s fine. Proceed to the sensor and check the resistivity of the sensor any reading outside 60-680 Ohms range, you replace the sensor.

It’s more of a professional job and less of a DIY job.

From some quarters (unverified by me), it can cause misfires.

yes!! I have done all that; swapped/changed coils, replaced all plugs and replaced injectors...yet the result remains same. I forgot to add that timing belt was replaced too some time ago.

Carry out compression tests, and leak test on that car pls.

That said, the J35Z2 with VCM are known for their damaging Sparkplugs due to the VCM operation and this may in-turn damage the engines

the last repair job was noozle and coil replacement. Car hasn't had any flood issues.

Did you swap coils from 1,2 into 3 &4 to test?
If you did and the result stays same, try injectors swap too. Also, do check the Sparkplugs and let me know the result.

kingreign please kindly help out as much as you can; I won't mind calling you on phone or sending whatsapp messages if you permit. Here's the case with my car: 2008 Accord V6, location outside Lagos. Car started misfiring on 2 cylinders (cylinders 2 & 4). Sparks plugs were changed for all cylinders, no change. Ignition coils were replaced, no improvement. Injector nozzles were replaced, fault codes change to cylinders 5 & 6! Nozzles were replaced at 5 & 6, misfire reduced for a few minutes and starts again. At this point, the following symptoms are presented: cylinder misfires, hard starting after car runs for a short distance, strong smell of petrol in the car, howling sound from the silencer (I guess unburnt fuel is getting into the exhaust directly and burning there), knocking sound from the engine after a while (not continuous), very crazy fuel consumption, engine revs itself after 2 minutes of starting up, flashing CEL. Curiously, the only codes that come up are for cylinder misfire! I'm at my wits end!

Let’s start from the basics, what was the last repair job done on the car that caused this to happen or did the car suddenly decide to have automobile madness and rabies on its own?

Did the car swim or did an electrical short circuit occurred?

One of the best lights to have in a dashboard is diffused white lights. It is aesthetically pleasing and easy on the eyes and when brightness levels are adjusted accordingly, it driver can read all he needs to read easily and quickly both in day and night driving times.

It may interest 735i to know that blue colours are some of the most distractive colours at night and VW used the blue backlit instrument clusters in 90s-2000s. So they’re now wiser than the Japanese who decided to follow a natural white colour instrument cluster.

I'm slightly bemused at the comments here.

The orange lights in the interior of the BMW is a deliberate design to minimize eye fatigue during night driving.

In developed nations where road safety is a thing, driving all through the night is quite normal.

White interior lights will strain the eyes way faster than the orange lights used by BMW.

The Germans know this. That's why MB, VW and Audi won't do that tacky white lights you'd see in Japanese cars.

It's actually amusing to see people compare the lighting and ambience of a 5 series to a Camry. Smh.

2005 upwards Mercedes Benz used a shade of white instrument cluster. The top picture is from a W204, middle picture is from a 2012 Porsche Panamera and the bottom is from a 2015 bmw 7 series. It is safe to say bmw realized their silly error and switched to white abi?


It may interest you to know there is a brightness adjustment setting or knob in most cars for their instrument cluster.

Why red throughout? It’s not nice to the eyes at night I swear. Maybe it will need some getting used to but I’d rather have the bulbs for the dials changed to white or light blue

But I remember driving cars like vw golf .vw toureg .opel zafira ,Honda Accord .Honda Element and sharan ..all had yellow lights on the dash .
I'm sure some Toyota have them .I've only driven some at noon .so I've never noticed .

My Honda 2007 D indicator on dashboard is always blinking once the car is on driver
The issue started on Friday after I asked an electrician to check all the fuses in the car to make sure they all pass currents he removed all the fuse and use little naked wire to bridge all the fuse and suck them back.

I went to my mechanic and he said it’s my gear sensor that needs servicing after servicing the sensor and changing of gear oil, I start the car and the blinking stop at some point it started again, it seems the blinking comes on when the car is hot or so

My Gear selects well
Engine is sound

The 2 problems I’m having now is
1) the D blinking
2) once I’m on hold up with AC my car sounds as if it’s not getting enough fuel supply be sounding like it once to off. Like there’s a cut in fuel supply.

I’m in Abuja please what can you suggest because I want to take it to mechanic or electrician
I don’t even know.

If bmw are truly worth the hype, why don’t commercial vehicle operators and fleet management use them like the way Japanese vehicles are used. Try using a BMW for bolt or Uber for 4months if it survives it, come tell me how much you spent on maintenance and let a bolt or Uber operator using a Corolla bring his own maintenance log book too!

Fun fact, I was in 3 BMW WhatsApp group, and most comments were about how their cars broke down and always asking for prices of parts and also mechanics. BMWs have been at the fore front of most tech in cars .as far back as in 1987 they did away with the throttle cable ...the cars are usually packed with tech never seen before in the auto world .
for that reason alone .Nigerian auto electricians fear them lol .but you don't have to fear them since we now have scan tools and tech savvy technicians


Built Quality

bmw makes it a priority to create vehicles that are beautifully designed and don't skimp on the quality,
I don't want to call names but you would never have your dash board melting in the Nigerian sun.

I’d give you a shocker! A Range Rover dashboard cracks too, a Hyundai too, a lot of other manufacturers had defective dashboard from 2003-13. It’s not a toyota or Lexus exclusive thing.

Here is a 2007 e60 ..owner wants 1.5 ..this goes for about 6m on the car market in Nigeria

I got news for ya mate, a toyota trim piece isn’t made of cheap brittle plastic and the write up don’t fade, then is the optitron cluster which is brilliantly made and legible both in the day and at night. Yes, they may look boring but they’re ergonomically well sorted out and balanced for functionality.
