On immigration the theoritical projection is skewered. Katsumoto quote "What Achebe sees as advancement in the form of Igbos settling in other places, others call it migration to seek opportunities in more evolved societies. Competitiveness and individualism meant that Alaigbo was not as evolved as other Nigerian societies. This competitiveness and individualism is still the reason why there is net migration from Alaigbo to other parts of Nigeria. For instance, there are Americans and Brits in Nigeria but there are more Nigerians in those societies than there citizens in Nigeria. Nigerians do well in those more evolved societies, better than some citizens in those countries but it would be foolish for Nigerians to claim that the society is evolved because of their presence." Historically Europe was more developed than the Americas, right. Depending whom you believe Columbus or the vikings, they made their way to America, creating a NET immigration to a RAW continent, which they have to develop, same goes to Australia and the leading colonisation of Africa and the rest of the world. In other words there was a net migration to Americas and Australia occassioned by individaul attributes and not continental demands.. The cliche of the Rugged individualism of the West, As daniel McLaughlin put it "Rugged individualists took pride in not being dependent on anyone. They had a motive to be responsible their own lives and actions, which necessarily meant he or she had to be productive. This does not mean that individualists didn't care about other people or were unsociable or uncharitable. During the period of time most associated with rugged individualism, the wild, wild west in America of the 1800's, the earliest institutions of those settlers included schools and churches. People can take responsibility for their own lives and yet also participate in social and charitable activities. They aren't mutually exclusive." Fast forward to 2000-2008 there is a net migration from Australia to USA, but Australia from your definition has evolved , so why then leave their highly evolved society to USA. One can say the same for the Nordic countries. Also the Japanese whom you bear the same name -lol do emigrate more to the USA than vice versa.People migrate for all sorts of reasons. And I guess the migration of the ethnic Igbo groups are for reasons best known to them and it cannot be because of just one.,., Do not forget that ultimately it is individuals and families that make these decisions not the congregation of ethnic groups. Though I acknowledge that there is some element of fact in your theory but will the p- value when checked rigorously bear out with other facts as regards reasons for immigration. thanks |
Please ladies and gents, boys and girls, I assume all of you are highly educated- with that presumption in mind, please take time to read the post, reread it again. 1. In no where did the post allude to any form of superiority to any group, rather it said "advantage" meaning that it was originally backward. 2. The post said that federation failed to harness the various cultural traits of the multiethnic groups to move the country forward. In the case of the IBos read "partly" meaning not wholly the same can be applied to any ethnic group. I believed he used Ibos here as an example because it is the group he is very much conversant with. I simply do not know what the brouhaha is here all one has to do is sit back and analyse the writers statements. 3. He never said individualism overall is better than other form of cultural traits. PLEASE ONCE AGAIN GUYS READ AND COMPREHEND |
Mr Tired of Life or whatever. 1. Remove the victimhoood from your thoughts because you are not one. do not think like one. 2.Put your certificate away - it is taking away your creative thinking. 3.Put on your survival instinct - like a hunter you need to make that kill or go hungry. when you can't get a deer go for bushmeat if not bushmeat fish. 4.Any job that pays no matter how "demeaning" is better than nothing. If it means selling akara in the street so be it. 5.Then use your brain, brain and more brain. This is merely a temporary set back. You do not need to work in a bank to be someone. 6. There is no work better than the one you created yourself. Because you can only fire you!!! 7.Sir get out of your Stupor and Victim Hood mentality and go out there and be hunter. 7. The basic questions one need to ask the writer is this.. 1. can you name 10 successfull "Igbo" leaders. As gleaned from their history they the Igbos does not even recognise a leader.. To them a leader is one who feeds, clothes, shelters and educates his family. 2. What qualities do you think these "igbo leaders " need to have, that they lack in the East or the South East. 3. Why are those 'Leadership" qualities if any are lacking in the East or South east and is available elsewhere. 4. Are these qualities universal or in short supply , if so where is it found and practiced in abundance. 5. There are presumably over 50 million Ibos does that mean that they all have the same exact talent and qualifications in life in other words they are all Zombies once bred in the east and South East. 6. Last I checked, Ojukwu schooled in England- Sandhurst, Lived in Lagos,East and Worked in the Northern region after coming back from England, so where exactly did his leadership qualities come from. 7.On Rochas how come he is an example when his "leadership" mettle has not been vetted by the "igbo Zombies" - the ones still in the so-called Igbo lands. 8. Were there any "leaders" of the Ibos before the aforementioned two. If there were please can we know their resumes. 9. Lastly I wonder why your idea of leadership is based on one who works for government. e.g. Is Bill gates a leader, Is Akio Morita a leader, Is Hyundai a leader, Is Michael Jackson a leader, . Is Wole Soyinka a leader. Thanks for your write up because it does beg the question on what we the young ones see as leadership in out fragile country and how it conforms to our environmental understanding on how the world works. At least though the Igbos are here used as an example, it is a global problem. -- As one can see that most opposition leaders in any country see others has having poor leadership until they get into government. Keep the conversation going |
playah P: Brother, I saw ur case and I felt like God led you to me; I suffer from a case of high blood pressure despite the fact I'm way younger than your mom.....please do not follow this advice for several reasons 1. diazepam is an antidepressant, anti anxiety, used for insomnia and sometimes could be used for nerve pain as in pre -op.., repeat and repeat again it is not used to treat High BP. 2. Nerve pain can be a result of several factors: but generally medications like gabapentin, lyrica, lidocaine, capsacian ointments and some antidepresants such as alprazolam, clonazepam or diazepam ( all these could be adictive ). Her nerve pain could be as a result of diabetes, or shingles ( herpes virus - in simple language). Her internal heat can be the result of menopause, thyroid imbalance, depression etc.,., she definitely need to see these specialists 1. internal medicine - internal heat - thyroid, depression 2. OBgyn - internal heat to check menopuase 3. neurologist - for nerve pain 4. Cardiologist.- for High BP please do not repeat go to a general physician. |
kingphemy: 1. God created Adam and Eve. And they have children.1. So inbreeding is not the correct word ok., then all the children that originated from Adam will have the same DNA regardless. right. How come my DNA has no relationship with anyone in the middle East. 2. So what is Adam a metrosexual an andromorphous been who is indescribleable. IS he short, 5ft, 6ft 10 ft? 3. In what year was the Tower of Babel destroyed, how many people were living in this Tower. And how large is it compared to Petronas building of Malaysia. 4. So your God of the Bible does campaign that you only follow him because he does not like the competition from other capable gods,; more like election campaign. Why does he have to work so hard to make you like him even to the point of threat of death. Chukwu and Oloru are not the same God, the Ibos worship several gods. traditionally they are not Monoetheists but polytheist. 5.Quoting science to prove your bible , not the other way round .,., interesting. 6. I dont have a bible . used to but not anymore, sorry. So your god taught Moses how to read and write in a different language away from that of his benefactors if I follow your bible right. Then there are several languages before the Tower of Babel. which is it then languages developed before Tower of Babel or After. 7.if those civilisation were his creations - did he/she do that before he/she broke up the Gowandaland or after. If before as you implied on the earth being on mass and everyone came from that location, the other civilisation no matter their evolution will have to retain enough of the "older" your bible god created civilisation. And they themselves will also be monotheists. And what does any other civilisation mean , if all civilisations are the same then there should not be much disagreement on earth today , should there. 8. The believe in one god is principally a middle eastern concept not the concept the rest of the world follows.,., 9. Finally, Buddhism and Sikhism did not develop from the middle east, please check your records. BTW my village did have a religion before the advent of the middle eastern religions and I will have to believe it is much older than that. As a matter of fact middle eastern religion is one of the youngest religions on earth. |
Diidi: Autism does not have cure, jus acept d fate n pay extra attention to your nephew. 2ndly don't use detergent to wash his clothes cos it makes dem hyper active, restless n they can neva concentrate for more than 5mins 4 a typical autsim child.. please stop giving advise on a subject you know nothing about |
sorry China is the second largest economy get your facts right sir
Japan is still the second largest economy in the world. They can probably have nuclear weapons within 30 or 40 days if they put their mind to it. And they are BFF with the current top dog, the USA. So if you fight Japan, you are also fighting the US. If China picks a fight with Japan, they'll be fvcked. There are two groups of people who I think it would be unwise to rile up...Germans and Japanese. Whoever decides to wake up either of those sleeping giants is a fool, in my opinion.
|
To The Bible Believers. 1. Who else was created by the Biblical God besides Adam and Eve. 2. Did the Adam family commit incest. 3. Was Adam a blackman, an Asian or an Indian. 4. Were the Chinese, koreans and indonesians or aboriginals from Australia also living in Egypt. 5. Were Chinese history older or younger than the Biblical history. 6. Did Adam write a thesis about his life in Eden. 7. Who told the first bible writer how the earth was created if no one was there. 9. Was it the biblical God that taught the Chinese how to write their Language or the Indians their sanskrit which is much older than the Hebrew language. 10. Was the biblical god instrumental in the creation of Budhism, Sikhism and other Languages. 11. Does the Biblical God has a hand in the civilisation of the Azteca and the Incas. 12. Where in your bible did it mention the separation of the Gowandaland. 13. How come you all are consumed by the history of the middle East. I will rest here for a while |
WHAT SYSTEM OF GOVERNMENT ARE WE PRACTICING; When my brother went into goat farming, he bought a large piece of land in Oyo state; He is not from Oyo. My brother is not Hausa/fulani he just saw the opportunity. Neither the federal government nor the state government nor the bank set aside any large peice of land for him. He went to the villages and negotiated with the locals through a Yoruba friend he meet. In the same vicinity was an Edo woman who was into rearing the (short southern cows- aka calabar cows). She went into it after retiring from nursing from UK. The government never assisted in anyway. The argument about the way of life is moot, because : It was the way of life of certain women in the east to wear jigida, and go topless but they saw the need to change due to changes in cultural values. It was a way of life for the Southern christians in the US to exhibit an extreme form of racisim but they have to change; Slavery was a way of life in the South... Aka the America civil war but they had to change. It was a way of life in some places in Nigeria to offer your wife to a visitor as a sign of friendship but that had to change. It was a way of life to kill people who are your enemies without consequences but that had to change. It was a way of life for the Chinese to bind the foot of their women , but that had to change. It was a way of life for the cowboys in Brazil and elsewhere to roam all over the land but that had to change. Even the famed Masai's are now settling down to ranches. It was a way of life for the nomads of Saudi ( remember - house of Saud were nomads ) to roam with their goats and camels, but they changed to build up Saudi Arabia. The reason aduced my those supporting this proposal forget the fact that we supposedly live in a Democracy; As in your way of life must respect and not infringe on my way of life, Anything less than that is pure dictatorship period. Democracy demands that you respect my property as I respect yours. And it demands that the governement does not appropriate a citizens property in other to pass it on to another person; Hitler tried that remember. |
TO THE MYOPIC NAIRALANDERS; Please answer these questions 1. Why do you on average only speak no more than 2 to 3 Nigerian languages fluently. 2. Have you protested that physics or chemistry was not taught in your native language- whatever that is but in English. 3. Why is common literature and your OWN history not taught in your native language. 4. Why does America, Russia, Japan, Australia spend enormous amount of money teaching their kids Chinese. 5. Why does China, Japan , Russia and Brazil spend enormous amount teaching their kids english language. 6. Why does America spend enormous amount of money teaching their kids spanish. 7. Teaching your Kids other Languages does not negate the fact that your primary medium of communication in your country has been settled. You guys should be thankful that you have a forward looking governor who understands that beneath it all it is all about the money.,., it is just the way the world works. If you guys want to change it start with yourselves and make things people will crave to have. You do not need to have the government to make it for you. |
cdamsel: @kobojunkie,personally I don't like ur person, must u shove ur opinions down pple's throat?u have said ur peace den let it go?I don't even know if u a man/woman?ur name alone makes me wonder if u high all d time, cos ur comments on NL makes me wonder.if some1 wants a live in maid hw e concern u?if person want nanny has it stopped u 4m bein a junkie?abeg park well.mtchewwwww. KoKojunkie wasn't talking about the idea of having a maid per see as being bad but the attendant expolitation occassioned by the LAZY madams, who strenthens the exploitation by the master -slave relationship. |
logica: Please ignore the dude. He inferred I was being tribalistic despite the fact that I already stated my ambivalence towards this move by the minister several times.. Am of the opinion that if you want it, build it, market it, ( or find a niche market, be it cameroun, gabon, congo, zim,) it really doesn't matter as long as revenue and the attendant improvement in employment is achieved. from my research a tiny state in Japan called Okayama, they built an international airport run by ANA that serviced South Korea only for many years before branching out to other Asian countries. Its all about marketing once the airport is built. |
rhymz: I wonder O. So Ibadan is now the yardstick for accepting anomalies, if they lost their status then it makes sense that others should follow. See how Nigerians even the ones living abroad reason? It is like they are born with tribal coded DNA, na wa oPlease read it again , should be does not necessitate that other airports should lose their status. Logica mentioned Ibadan in his write up not me. I never knew Ibadan was an international airport pre-war, never researched it. please carefully read my write up it has no ethnic coloration |
Why a HOUSE WIFE would have a maid still boggles my mind. What then is the point being a house wife. to merely service the husband is that it. For I know the maids do all the house work and in some cases teach the kids after school. So pray WHAT EXACTLY IS THE WORTH OF A HOUSE WIFE WITH MAIDS |
logica: Whether or not it is granted by the Federal government is beside the point; I suppose you missed where I stated there must have definitely been more activity given the status of the regional capital; and given this status the Federal government would have no choice than to grant the license. Did you also miss where I compared Enugu to Ibadan, which also has lost it's status requiring residents travel by road to Lagos to fly internationally?. It is the point, you cannot fly or establish stuff without the consent of the government. Who made them lose their status, isn't the governement withdrawing their license and forbid international travels from there. That Ibadan lost there Status not necessitate that others must follow the same part. Most International Airports all over the world have government control and oversite. You cannot operate one without their consent period. |
tunnytox: Bro please try to compare likes with likes, Tokyo and Perth are not within the same continents agreed but they are more within the same flying routes. Moreso south east asia and Australia have numerous trade and tourism links. same goes for your flights from Hawaii to Melbourne. These flights are more like flying from Talinn (Estonia) to Manchester or rather Istanbul to Manchester. Also don't forget that I stated that some Intercontinental flights also fly directly to routes within UK just because the demand is there.Tokyo to Melbourne is close to 12 hours flight time, no sir it is not like flying from Estonia to Manchester. With your point one would then argue that since London or Frankfurt is about 6-7 hours fron Nigeria then we should have booming flights occasioned by a lot of international airports. Afterall we have a lot of trade with them. The trade and tourism link with Asia is a recent phenom, not like it existed before the middle of the 20th century, afterall at a point non-whites were not allowed into Australia as late as the 70s. Brisbane international airport or El-paso international were not developed because there were tremendous tourism and other resources. In these 2 examples they are a result of local politics. Developed then hyped as a destination. It all boils down to marketing |
logica: I expect that being an autonomous region, there was just as much activity as to other region's capitals. Now get this: even today Ibadan that was the capital of the Western region no longer enjoys that status; so international travelers from Ibadan make their way to Lagos.Autonomous in what sense?, As a country a region is not in charge of the foreign policy - aka who comes and goes inside the country. So BOAC wouldnt't have been granted the license to fly into Nigeria without the consent of the Foreign Ministry which is not under the perview of the regions |
logica: You mean, pre Civil War when Enugu was the CAPITAL of the Eastern Region? Does that answer your question? The region was autonomous then, and could afford to spend on an International airport.. Sir, so being a capital is a pre-requiste then to build and site an international airport, but why did BOAC choose to fly the route or were they forced by the federation or regional government |
But why study in a 6 or 7th rate environment instead of first to third. I know alot of people hold unto nostalgia- parents went to english school and so on. That was then and this is now. What has come out of Britain that is REAllY life changing since 1945 beside instigating wars. |

tunnytox: All these 'major' airports you stated here may be international airports but does not have any INTERCONTINENTAL flights but CONTINENTAL flights. Most flights plying these routes are flights within their continents, for instance there are direct flights from most European cities to Manchester or Birmingham but you cannot fly directly to these cities without stopping over at a major European airports.Sir, I flew from Tokyo to Perth Australia and Also from Hawaii to Melbourne, last I checked Tokyo and Hawaii are not in " continental" Australia. One can fly from Dallas directly to Australia, or Houston . Last I checked also both cities are in USA not Australia, same goes for flights from Any of the Airports from California to Osaka or Tokyo or Fukoka, they are all "intercontinental" if you want to use those terms instead of international. Sir, the word is international not intercontinental, but whatever way you want to slice it it is still between two or more nations. |
do emigrate more to the USA than vice versa.
